Across Lifetimes: The Thread Between Us
EPISODE 1 : The Boy With the Violet Umbrella
Not heavily — but enough that everyone on the street carried umbrellas, rushing to their destinations. Except one boy
A boy who stood perfectly still in the middle of the footpath, holding a violet umbrella with trembling fingers, eyes fixed on someone across the road
TAEHYUNG
(Holding a violet umbrella with trembling fingers)
He looked older than the university students rushing by, yet younger than the tired office workers passing him. He had this strange, dream-like presence. Like he wasn’t entirely from this world
And the person he stared at?
JUNGKOOK
(Laughing with Jimin, pushing his soaked hair back)
smiling with that same dimple that had once made kingdoms fall. He looked so alive. So untouched by the sorrow that chained Taehyung’s chest
TAEHYUNG
(Whispered under his breath, so quietly that the rain almost swallowed it)
TAEHYUNG
You’re here... again
Flashback — 502 years ago
Blood. So much blood.
The palace burned behind them, the cries of betrayal still ringing in their ears. Jungkook’s hands were shaking as he pressed them to Taehyung’s wound.
“Don’t you dare die on me, Taehyung! You promised — you promised you’d never leave me!”
Taehyung smiled through the pain. “Even if I die... I’ll find you again. I’ll always come back.”
“Don’t say that—! I don’t want to wait again—"
But it was too late. Taehyung’s eyes dimmed. His body collapsed.
And Jungkook’s scream broke the stars that night
JIMIN
(Voice snapped Jungkook out of his daze) Hey, are you listening?
JIMIN
(Tilted his head) You okay? You keep looking like you saw a ghost
JUNGKOOK
(Rubbed his eyes)I... I don’t know. I just saw this guy holding a violet umbrella and I—
JUNGKOOK
(Tossed in bed, drenched in sweat)
His dreams were strange again — fire, blood, a palace burning... someone holding his face and whispering
“Even if I die... I’ll find you again.”
JUNGKOOK
(Shot up, gasping)
JUNGKOOK
(His chest hurts. Like something was trying to break out)
TAEHYUNG
(Sat in his tiny apartment, surrounded by his paintings)
All of them were portraits of Jungkook — from every era. In royal robes. As a soldier. In a school uniform. In a field of poppies
TAEHYUNG
(Touched one of the paintings and whispered)
TAEHYUNG
You don’t remember me yet. But I’ll wait. Like I always do
EPISODE 2: Dreams That Don’t Belong to Me - 1
Jungkook’s University Dorm
JUNGKOOK
(Sat on the edge of his bed, his hands gripping the sheets tightly)
Morning light spilled into the room, but he felt like he hadn’t slept at all
He couldn’t shake the image from his dream:
A boy, eyes full of tears… stained with blood.
His voice: “Even if I die… I’ll find you again.”
JUNGKOOK
Why does it feel so real?(mumbled, looking at his hands like they weren’t his)
There was a soft knock on the door
JIMIN
Hey, you alive in there or do I need to break the door?
JUNGKOOK
(Sighed, running his hands through his hair)
JUNGKOOK
Yeah, yeah. I’m up
JIMIN
(Walked in, raising an eyebrow)
JIMIN
You look like hell. Did your online game girlfriend finally break up with you?
JUNGKOOK
(Gave him a tired glare)
JUNGKOOK
No. I just… had weird dreams again
JIMIN
(Sat beside him, biting into an apple)
JUNGKOOK
I keep seeing this place that doesn’t exist. Like a palace. And I’m always crying. Someone’s dying in my arms and calling me by name. I don’t know who he is, but I feel like I know him more than I know myself
JIMIN
Damn. That’s either your brain begging for therapy or your soul asking for a K-drama
JUNGKOOK
(Chuckled weakly, but the ache in his chest didn’t fade)
Art Gallery — Downtown Seoul
TAEHYUNG
(Stood in a quiet corner of the gallery, surrounded by his own work)
Today’s exhibit was titled “Fragments of a Soul”.
Every piece had Jungkook’s face. But none of the viewers knew.
A couple walked past, admiring one of his most painful paintings — a scene of a boy with long hair, kneeling beside a bleeding prince in golden robes. The emotion in the brushstrokes made the woman tear up
Stranger:
“This looks so real. Like the artist was there when it happened.”
TAEHYUNG
(Turned away. He couldn’t bear to hear their guesses)
Because he had been there
Flashback: Lifetime 3 — 1882, Joseon Era
Jungkook was dressed as a soldier. Mud on his boots. He had just returned from the border
Taehyung waited for him in the secret gardens of the palace
Taehyung: “You weren’t supposed to come back here. It’s dangerous.”
Jungkook
(grabbing his hand)
“And leave you here to marry someone else? I’d rather die.”
(trembling)
“You know I can’t disobey the Emperor. He’s my father—”
(softly, with fire in his eyes)
“Then let’s run. Tonight. I don’t care about war. I don’t care about rules. I care about you.”
Taehyung:
“And if we die?”
(smiling)
“Then in the next life, I’ll find you again.”
EPISODE 3: Dreams That Don’t Belong to Me -2
Taehyung:
“And if we die?"
Jungkook: (smiling)
“Then in the next life, I’ll find you again.”
TAEHYUNG
(Stared at that painting in silence)
TAEHYUNG
You said you’d find me, but you forgot, didn’t you?
TAEHYUNG
So I keep finding you instead… over and over again
University Campus — That Afternoon
JUNGKOOK
(Walking toward the main hall when he stopped)
There — by the front gates — was that boy again. Violet umbrella. Long brown coat. Dark eyes that seemed too deep for someone so young.
JUNGKOOK
(under his breath) it's him
TAEHYUNG
(Just standing still, looking at him again. No smile. No movement. Just quiet recognition)
JUNGKOOK
Why does he look at me like he’s been waiting forever?
JUNGKOOK
(Before he could move a group of students crossed his path, blocking his view)
That Night — Jungkook’s Dorm Room
JUNGKOOK
(Stared at the ceiling. His heart wouldn’t calm down)
JUNGKOOK
(Picked up a sketchbook from his drawer, unsure why he even owned it. He wasn’t an artist)
JUNGKOOK
(Without thinking, his hand moved)
Pencil to paper. Stroke after stroke. Shadows, eyes, hair… tears
JUNGKOOK
(stopped, breath shaky)
With sorrowful eyes.
And a violet umbrella in his hand
JUNGKOOK
(Dropped the pencil)
JUNGKOOK
I’ve never met him… but I drew him like I’ve seen him every day
Hundreds of times. In hundreds of lives
YOONGI
(Stood in the doorway of Taehyung’s art room)
YOONGI
He saw you again today?
TAEHYUNG
(Nodded slowly, staring at the half-finished painting of Jungkook’s smile)
TAEHYUNG
He looked at me longer this time. Like… a part of him remembered
YOONGI
(Stepped in quietly) Then it’s starting
TAEHYUNG
(whispers) You think this lifetime will be different?
YOONGI
I don’t know. But you’ve waited longer than any soul should. If this is the one… don’t let him slip away again
TAEHYUNG
(Swallowed) I’m scared. What if remembering breaks him? What if… he chooses not to come back?
YOONGI
(Placed a hand on Taehyung’s shoulder) Then you love him anyway. Like you always do
Flashback: Lifetime #5 — 1944, Japanese Occupation
Taehyung was a poet. Jungkook was a resistance fighter.
The last time they saw each other was in a prison cell.
Taehyung:
“Don’t be afraid. Even if they kill me… I’ll be reborn, and I’ll wait for you.”
Jungkook:
“How will I find you?”
Taehyung: (smiling through bloodied lips)
“Look for the boy who waits in the rain… with a violet umbrella.”
JUNGKOOK
(Stared at the sketch of the umbrella boy again)
JUNGKOOK
(Tears slipped down his cheeks)
JUNGKOOK
Why do I feel like I’ve loved you before… and lost you?
