My name was Emily Carter. Until a few months ago, I was just another university student, with impeccable grades and a promising future. But everything changed the day I was recruited.
“Emily Carter.”
The voice of my superior pulled me out of my thoughts.
I lifted my head, expecting to hear something exciting. Something worthy of an elite spy.
“From now on, you will no longer be Emily. Your new name is Star Black.”
I frowned.
“Star Black? Seriously?”
The man gave me a stern look.
“You’re not here to question names.”
I sighed, resigned.
“Alright… What’s my mission?”
My superior slid a thick file across the table. I took it with some excitement, but as soon as I read the name on the first page, my enthusiasm vanished.
“Adán Cleidor…” I murmured, feeling my stomach twist.
“Yes. We need you to get close to him, earn his trust, and gather information.”
I placed a hand on my forehead.
“Wait… Are you telling me I have to spy on the biggest psychopath, lunatic, and narcissist of this generation?”
The man raised an eyebrow.
“Watch your words.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Don’t tell me you’re a fan of that guy too…”
“It’s not about that. It’s about the fact that if you want to stay alive, you’d better learn to watch what you say.”
A chill ran down my spine.
“Why me?” I asked with annoyance. “Don’t you have someone else who can do it?”
“The right question is: why not you? You’re new, you have no ties, and you’re quick at reading people. Besides…” he paused, “Adán Cleidor’s father is suspected of having murdered his half-brother, Har Cleidor, and of being involved in illegal substance trafficking.”
I swallowed hard.
“Murder? That’s hard to believe… Everyone knows Har was his half-brother, but there were never rumors of a bad relationship between them.”
“Appearances are deceiving.”
I leaned back in my chair.
“So… I have to become that guy’s best friend?”
“Exactly.”
I huffed.
“I’m going to die.”
The man smirked slightly.
“Not if you follow the manual.”
He slid a thick book toward me. I opened it and saw what would be my new identity.
Name: Star Black
Age: 22
Occupation: Student at Cleidor University
My eyes jumped to the next line.
Objective: Infiltrate Adán Cleidor’s life and gain access to his home.
“This is ridiculous…” I muttered. “Seriously, ‘Star Black’? Wasn’t there anything more discreet? Something that doesn’t sound like a rebellious 2000s rockstar?”
My superior gave me a serious look.
“This isn’t a name contest. It’s a mission.”
I rolled my eyes, closed the book, and put it in my bag.
“Fine. When do I start?”
“Tomorrow morning. Here’s the address where you’ll receive your gear. Clothes, documents, new phone… everything you need for your new identity.”
I nodded and stood up.
“This is going to be a disaster.”
The man gave me a faint smile.
“That depends on you.”

Step One: Becoming Star Black
I arrived at the designated place that same afternoon. It was an unremarkable building, with no visible signs of being an operations base. I walked in and was greeted by a woman in a black suit who didn’t bother introducing herself.
“Here’s everything,” she said, handing me a suitcase.
I opened it and found elegant but understated clothes: fitted jeans, minimalist blouses, white sneakers, and leather jackets. Nothing too flashy, but not boring either. There was also a purse, a new passport, and a university ID with my new name.
“Is that all?” I asked.
The woman stared at me.
“Don’t forget, Star. Emily Carter is dead from now on.”
I nodded, though the idea felt surreal.

Step Two: Going Back to University
The next morning, I stood in front of the enormous gates of Cleidor University. A pang of nostalgia hit me. Not because I’d studied here before, but because just a few months ago, my only worry was passing exams. Now I had to pretend to be the friend of the most unreachable heir in the country.
I took a deep breath and walked in.
The hallways were full of students going in every direction. Some were laughing, others glued to their phones, and a few glanced at me curiously. To them, I was the new girl.
“Watch out!”
A student ran past me and almost knocked me over.
“Hey!” I protested, but he didn’t even look back.
I sighed and made my way to the registrar’s office.
“Name,” the receptionist said without looking up.
“Star Black.”
She typed on her computer and handed me an envelope.
“Here are your schedules and group info.”
I took the papers and left the office.
Now came the hardest part: finding a way to get close to Adán Cleidor.
I stopped in the middle of campus and pulled out my new phone.
“Mission: get close to Adán Cleidor.”
I read the words and felt them weigh down on me like a stone.
“How the hell am I supposed to do that?”
I bit my lip, watching the students around me. I knew Adán wasn’t just anyone. He wasn’t the typical popular university guy surrounded by a loud group of friends.
He was selective. He didn’t let just anyone near him.
“It’ll be easy,” they said.
“Don’t worry,” they said.
I rolled my eyes.
If I wanted to pull this off, I had to come up with a plan.
And I had to do it before he found out who I really was.
