◇Entry #1 - "I don't understand anything."◇
Weather: Cloudy, like my brain.⛅️
Hana Mitchell.
Dear diary,
Hana Mitchell.
Today was my first day at my new school in Tokyo.
Hana Mitchell.
Mom says its called 'Higashi Elementary',
Hana Mitchell.
but I call it 'huh Elementary' because I said "huh" at least a thousand times today. Maybe even a million.
Hana Mitchell.
I didn't understand anything. Not the announcements, not the rules, not even where to put my shoes!
Hana Mitchell.
<Yes Diary. You have to take off your shoes and put on little inside shoes — they're called *uwabaki*>
Hana Mitchell.
Mine have bunnies on them. They squish my toes.
Hana Mitchell.
My homeroom teacher is named Aoyama-sensei.
Aoyama-senei.
*smiles softly at Hana.*
Hana Mitchell.
Hehe. She'd smile at me a lot, just like that and speak slowly so I'd be able to follow.
Hana Mitchell.
But... I could only get five little words...
Hana Mitchell.
One of them was *ganbatte*,
Hana Mitchell.
it means ^do your best.^
Hana Mitchell.
I think I'm gonna need that one for every single day I'm studying here.
Hana Mitchell.
At lunch, everyone brought these cute little bentos,
Hana Mitchell.
which had rice, pickled plums and rolled eggs in them.
Hana Mitchell.
Mama packed PB (peanut butter) sandwich and apple slices, along with a milk carton for my lunchbox.
Hana Mitchell.
I felt that my lunch was weird compared to everyone else's so I tried to hide it behind my milk carton,
Hana Mitchell.
But a boy saw it and said something, I have no idea what it meant, then laughed.
Hana Mitchell.
I'm hoping it's a surprise laugh and not a mean one...

Hana Mitchell.
Also — I found out that, no one and I mean, no one speaks a word during lunch.
Hana Mitchell.
All I heard were silent chewing.
Hana Mitchell.
Because of that, I kept trying so hard to chew my sandwich as softly as I could but in my head, they sounded like someone was crushing bones with their teeth!
Hana Mitchell.
After lunch, we had calligraphy.
Hana Mitchell.
(Yes Diary, not my favorite class after what I'm about to tell you.)
Hana Mitchell.
During the class, I had ink, spilled all over myself.
Hana Mitchell.
My desk, my papers, my pencil case, my uniform and my hand!
Hana Mitchell.
While I was internally panicking over the mess I'd made, a girl next to me helped out.
*** ******.
*leans over and wipes the ink on her desk, bends and cleans the floor then hands her some tissues.*
Hana Mitchell.
The girl has nice eyes that make her seem like a kind person. Plus looked like someone who'd enjoy PB sandwich as much I do.
Hana Mitchell.
Oh yeah! After school ended, and we were lined up to go home,
Hana Mitchell.
I bowed when we weren't supposed to and everyone had their eyes stuck on me!
Hana Mitchell.
(I seriously wished I could disappear. Like those ninjas in movies and cartoons.)
Hana Mitchell.
Well anyways, I think I'm just gonna doodle some arts about today and write the new words I learnt to remember.
Hana Mitchell.
Wish me luck Diary. (I'm gonna need it!)
Hana Mitchell.
Heart filled words,
By Hana.
Words learned: 📝
