System- Impress Your Boss
Late
Prison/Authy
The room was painted in blue color... The positive color!
Buzzzzz! The alarm went off.
Lena was snoring under her blanket.
From the other room, her elder sister shouted,
Elvira
“You lazy girl! Wake up already! I don’t have the whole day for you! What a trouble you are… Lenaaa, wake up!”
Lena rubbed her eyes, half-asleep
Lena
“What time is it now?”
Elvira
Her sister stormed in, arms crossed.
Elvira
Lena shot up from the bed.
She rushed to the bathroom, splashed water on her face without bathing, threw on clothes, dabbed some makeup, and sprinted out the door.
She pushed the door open, breathing heavily.
Dia
First day? And you’re late?”
Dia
The boss will be furious with you. I’m warning you—make sure you have a solid excuse… otherwise, you’re dead.”
Cabin
Lena knocked softly on the door.
She stepped inside. The boss looked her up and down, his expression turning into clear disgust.
Heaven
“Oh… you are Lena.”
His eyes scanned her—messy hair, scuffed shoes, no polish, no neatness.
“Messy hair… no respect for time… no value of discipline…”
Lena fumbled with her bag
Lena
“Yes, sir… actually—”( No, I can’t say I overslept.)
Lena
“…the train was very crowded.”
The boss leaned back, unimpressed.
Heaven
“Oh, then you should’ve stepped out of the house earlier.
Lena
“I tried, sir. But you know the Mumbai traffic…”
The boss’s jaw tightened. His thoughts clear:
Heaven
(So many excuses… I hate lies.)
The boss frowned suddenly, waving his hand in front of his nose
Heaven
“Yuck! What is that smell? Didn’t you brush your teeth?”
Lena
“Ahh—what? I did! I do every day, sir!”
Heaven
*Narrowed his eyes*
Heaven
“Hmm. Looks more like you came without taking a shower… or even bothering to freshen up.”
Lena
[ how did he know that, his eyes are really observed every little things, he is punctual and discipline....]
Lena
“Uh… no, sir, I—I mean, I was in such a rush…”
Heaven
“First day, late. Messy hair. Unpolished shoes. And now this? If you want to survive in this office, Miss Lena, you’ll need more than excuses.”
Morning
Sunlight slipped through the sheer curtains, falling softly on the wedding bed
Lena
I barely touched. I had spent half the night staring at the ceiling, and the other half pretending to sleep while he breathed quietly on the couch.
Lena
I turned my head slightly.
He was still there. Shirtless. One hand over his eyes.
Lena
Sleeping like nothing was wrong.
Lena
But everything was wrong.
Lena
This wasn’t supposed to feel like this.
I wasn’t supposed to care about how peaceful he looked.
Lena
Or how close he had come last night not just physically, but emotionally too.
Lena
I got up carefully, tiptoeing across the cold wooden floor, trying not to wake him.
The silence of the room was heavy.
Lena
Just as I reached the dresser, I heard his voice
Heaven
“You didn’t sleep much.”
He sat up slowly, rubbing his face.
Heaven
“Still thinking about the kiss?”
Lena
I hated how direct he was.
But more than that—I hated how my heart skipped every time he mentioned it.
Lena
“I’m just trying to forget everything,”
Lena
“This isn’t real. Let’s not make it worse.”
He stood now, walking closer, and I backed up, instinctively.
