Prince's Possessive Bodyguard

introduction

Introduction of main characters
prince Elias(mc)
prince Elias(mc)
Prince Elias(23) The heir to the throne, Prince Elias lives a life that others would envy. But, for Elias, the glittering crown is a cage, and the royal court is a pit of snakes. Beneath his sly smirk and quick wit, there’s a gnawing loneliness he won’t admit, even to himself. When danger strikes, Elias must rely on the one person he’d rather avoid – his implacable, maddeningly stoic bodyguard.
Rowan(ml)
Rowan(ml)
Rowan(28) Where Elias is fire, Rowan is ice. The prince’s bodyguard is a study in discipline and duty, every inch the soldier. His sharp jawline and cold stare can silence a room – or at least, they would, if Elias didn’t have a knack for poking at him. Rowan’s job is to protect the prince, not like him, and certainly not get to know him.

The royal pain in my neck

Rowan's pov
Eyeing the sprawling palace courtyard from the gatehouse window Here we go again. Another day playing “Prince Charming’s personal bodyguard,” which apparently means dodging tantrums and unsolicited royal advice on my ‘posture.’
There he is striding across the marble hall like he owns the sun.
prince Elias(mc)

Rowan! If you think the crown weighs heavy, try walking in my shoes for five minutes.
He’s not even wearing shoes. Just those ridiculous velvet slippers with golden embroidery.
Rowan(ml)
Rowan(ml)
Maybe start by not acting like it’s made of marshmallows, Your Highness.
I don’t bother hiding the smirk. He glares but it’s the kind of glare that says, ‘I’m annoyed but also kind of impressed.’
The throne room glimmers with gold and ancient tapestries, but it feels cold—like the weight of every royal expectation hanging in the air, suffocating and loud. Elias fidgets, like the crown itself is an itchy collar he can’t remove.
prince Elias(mc)

(annoyed)Do you ever stop staring at me like I’m some kind of exhibit?
Rowan(ml)
Rowan(ml)
(dryly)Only when you stop acting like one.
He shoots me a look so sharp it could carve stone. And yet there's something almost vulnerable hiding behind those eyes like a storm barely held at bay. We’re interrupted by the sudden clang of a dropped goblet (thanks to a nervous young man), and Elias’s eyebrow quirks up like he's deciding whether to be annoyed or amused.
prince Elias(mc)

(muttering to Rowan)Watch your step, mortal.
I roll my eyes and kneel to pick up the mess before anyone else slips. Classic royal chaos.
Later, in the garden because apparently nothing says ‘royalty’ like forced walks among trimmed hedges and statues of ancestors looking perpetually judgmental. Elias flops dramatically onto a marble bench.
prince Elias(mc)
prince Elias(mc)
You ever wonder if these statues talk about us when we’re not looking?
Rowan(ml)
Rowan(ml)
Only when you embarrass yourself. (after a pause) and trust me it's a full time conversation.
He laughs—a quick, sharp sound that surprises me.
prince Elias(mc)
prince Elias(mc)
You are impossible.
Rowan(ml)
Rowan(ml)
yeah, well, someone needs to keep your highness grounded.
He looks at me, really looks, and the usual sharp edges soften, just for a second.
prince Elias(mc)
prince Elias(mc)
maybe, I don't need grounded.
Rowan(ml)
Rowan(ml)
maybe you are just scared of flying.(shrug)
Then Elias grins a mischievous, dangerous kind of grin—and throws a handful of flower petals at me.
I dodge the petals, already plotting my next sarcastic comeback.

Burden of duty

The evening sun filters through heavy velvet curtains in Prince Elias' chamber. Candlelight flickers against dark wood and cold marble, the air thick with silence and unspoken words. Outside, the palace guards shift their posts, unaware of the fragile truce inside.

(lounging on the recliner, voice sharp but weariness bleeding through) Do you ever tire of standing watch, Rowan? Or is brooding your only skill?

Rowan(ml)
(leaning against the tall window frame, eyes scanning the gardens but not really seeing) Better to brood than to waste breath on foolishness. Your last speech was a masterclass in that.

(smirking, but it doesn't reach his eyes) Better a foolish prince than a humorless guard who thinks himself wiser than he is.

(turns, jaw tight, voice low) I'm not here to entertain you. Just to keep you alive.
A clock’s steady ticking fills the silence, the only sound besides the distant clatter of palace life. The weight of their unspoken tension hangs heavy.

(laughs bitterly, eyes darkening) Easy for you to say, isn't it? No one expects you to rule. No one demands you be more than your rank.

(quietly almost a whisper) Perhaps. But duty can bind tighter than chains. We both wear them.
They share a look — tension mixed with a flicker of something deeper: respect, understanding, maybe even a fragile hope.

(without hesitation) everyday . But I stay because we can't walk away from everything.

Maybe I don’t want to be alone in this anymore.

You are not.
Outside, the palace stands silent, a fortress protecting secrets and the slow bloom of a bond that neither man expected.
