"Ichika?"
*He goes into her room*
"Ichika. Where's dinner? I'm starving"
Ichika
*She's sitting on the floor in front of her mirror, cleaning out some cuts. She has a black eye, bruises all over, a split lip, and cuts scattering her body.*
"I'll start on it in a second. I need to finish this"
Dad
"No. Dinner now"
*He says in a stern voice, obviously serious*
Her father is in the Army and her mom is a waitress, supporting Ichika and her 15-year-old brother
Her father is on leave for 3 months
Ichika
"Dad"
*She sighs and looks up at him from the floor*
"I need 2 minutes. Then I'll start on dinner. If you're so hungry, order some pizza."
*She's snaps her fingers*
"Better yet, have Ichko make dinner"
Dad
"I can't make him cook. He sucks at cooking"
*He sighs and pinches his eyes*
"He's too busy with baseball anyway. He's at practice right now"
Ichika
"And I'm cleaning wounds"
*She smiles*
"I don't want them to get infected"
Dad
*Scoffs and turns away*
"I'm just gonna order out"
*Grumbles about "useless child" and "Getting into fights all the damn time"*

💭God, he's annoying. Make your own d*mn dinner. You're a grown man💭
Mom
"Hello? I'm home!"
*Takes off her shoes, jacket, and puts up her purse*
Ichko
"Hey, mom!"
*He walks in from his bedroom in sweats and a t-shirt*
Ichko never went to baseball practice. He stayed home playing video games
Dad
*He walks in from the living room with a beer in his hand. He hugs his wife*
"How was work babe?"
Mom
*She hugs him back, still in her waitress uniform*
"It was ok. I got some good tips"
Dad
"Sweet"
*He pulls away and reaches into the pocket where the tips are*
"Poker money"
Ichko
*He takes 10 bucks*
"I need some cash for my girlfriend"
Mom
*Sighs*
"You boys"
*She smiles and takes off her apron*

*Comes out of her room*
"Hey mom..."
Mom
*Her nose crinkles with distaste, and she hangs the apron on the hooks on the wall*
"What do you want?"
She considers Ichika to be the worst thing to happen to the family
Ichika was an accident and unwanted. On top of it, she mostly skips class and gets into fights frequently.
Ichika
"I need 10 dollars"
*Her hand is braced on a doorway, and she leans against it*
Mom
"No"
*She sneers and snatches the money from her husband*
"Why should you get any of the money?"
Dad
"You haven't deserved any. What have you done? You didn't even make dinner"
Ichko
"You're useless. You haven't done anything for us in forever. You just lie around on your *ss all the time and get into fights"
Ichika
*Sigh*
"I don't need to explain myself. I need 10 bucks"
Mom
"No. Why should you need 10 bucks"
Ichika
"You don't need to know. I need 10 bucks"
Dad
"Don't talk to your mother that way"
Mom
"Hush Ino"
*Turns to Ichika*
"Why do you need the 10 bucks?"
Ichika
*Sighs and rolls her yes in exasperation*
"Fine. I have a debt to these guys at school, and apparently, being short 10 bucks warrants being jumped"
Ichko
"You're always getting into fights. This is why you never get anything"
*He smiles, sneering*
Ichika
"You never do anything but laze around and play video games."
*She says dryly*
Mom
*He hand is extended in front of her and Ichka's head is snapped to the side, a red mark on her cheek*
"How many times..."
*She whispers*
"...do I have to tell you not to speak to your brother like that?"
Dad
*Pushes her into the wall*
"Don't speak to Ichko like that you little b*tch!"
Ichika
*Leans against the wall, hands braced*
Dad
"That boy is the future of this family. You're just sh*t! You won't do anything for this family. There is nothing you can do. You're gonna end up a sl*t and a wh*re. Little b*tch"
Mom
"Just go to your room. Get out"
Ichika
*Run/walks to her room and shuts the door behind her, locking it*

*Grabs a duffel bag from her closet and starts filling it with clothes and her stuff. She goes into her underwear drawer and takes out a ward of cash - her savings since she was 6*

*Puts on jeans, a t-shirt, her leather jacket, and sneakers. She puts the duffel bag over her shoulder and opens the window*

*She goes out the window and drops onto the grass into the backyard.*

*She runs outside the backyard and down the street toward a motel*

*He woke up in his apartment after a bad dream. It's his first day in town*

*He's walking along the street in his Furin uniform.*

*He sees a young woman with amber eyes and maroon hair being cornered by a bunch of guys*

💭Huh... what's happening here?💭
Haruka Sakura
*A man grabs her wrist, and he puts a hand on the man's shoulder*

"If you're gonna embarrass yourself, don't do it in broad daylight"

"Huh? Who the Hell are you? And what's with the look, freakshow?"
*He turns toward Sakura, letting go of the woman's arm*
"Stay out of my way!"
*He swings a punch at Sakura*
Haruka Sakura
*Punches the man, and he falls to the ground*

"You must have a few screws loose in that head of yours if you thought you were tough. Guess what? You're not"
Kotoha Tachibana
*Looks at Sakura in surprise*

*Leans down above the man, grabbing the man's shirt*
"You better not go forgetting my name and face. I want weaklings like you to avoid me and the strong to seek me out. Who am I?"
*He lets go of the man and stands up to his full height*
"Haruka Sakura, over at Furin High!"
Haruka Sakura
*Walks away, putting his hands in his pockets*
Kotoha Tachibana
*Gasps softly and transfers her groceries into one hand*
"Hey!"
*Runs after Sakura*
"Get back here! Hey, I told you to wait up"
*Grabs his arm, making him stop*
Haruka Sakura
*Grunts softly and stops walking*
Kotoha Tachibana
"Thanks for helping out"
Haruka Sakura
*Looks at her in surprise over his shoulder*
"Huh?"
*Looks around and turns to her. He points to himself*
"Huh? Who? Me?"
Kotoha Tachibana
"That depends. Do you see anybody else around?"
Haruka Sakura
*His eyes widen and he turns bright red*
"I ONLY TOOK 'EM OUT 'CAUSE I COULDN'T STAND HIM, NOT 'CAUSE I WAS TRYING TO SAVE YOU! SO DON'T GO GETTING THE WRONG IDEA, OKAY?"
*He shouts in a shrill, squeaky, teenage boy voice*
Kotoha Tachibana
*Looks at him for a moment*
"Yeah, whatever. Can I pay you back in food?"
Haruka Sakura
*Still blushing and turns away*
"Wha? Yeah, as if!"
*Still using the pubescent teenage boy voice*
They're in her restraunt now
Kotoha Tachibana
*Puts a plate of omelet rice in front of him*
"So, I take it you're from out of town."
Haruka Sakura
*Sitting on a bar stool and gasps softly*
Kotoha Tachibana
*Taking a fork out of a drawer, facing away from him*
"That's why I haven't seen you around. You don't get that too often; people moving here"
Haruka Sakura
*No longer blushing*
"Yeah, well, I'm a real weirdo"
Kotoha Tachibana
*Turns to face him halfway, her hand outstretched, opening and closing*
"That wasn't what I meant! You're not causing this place any problems."
*Lowers her hand*
"Not that long ago, there were a lot of gangs in town. Fights and turf wars were breaking out all the time. Normal people wouldn't set foot here. That being said, I'm not originally from this town either."
*Hands him a fork*
Kotoha Tachibana
"My names Kotoha Tachibana. Eat up"
Haruka Sakura
💭What's with this lady? Why's she acting all friendly around me? Normally, people get freaked out. I mean, I just pummeled 5 guys in front of her. Also...💭
*Looks down at his food*
Kotoha Tachibana
"Huh? Aren't you hungry? Don't you like omelet rice?"
*Wiping something off on her apron*

*Picks up his spoon*
"I'm eating! Stop trying to rush me"
*Takes a bite and his face lights up*

*Starts shoveling food into his mouth*

"Can you order takeoff from this place?"
*His face is completely serious*
Kotoha Tachibana
*Gives him a flat look*
"Um, I think you mean takeout. No, you can't."
Haruka Sakura
*Blushes and holds his spoon like a knife*
"Yeah. It's not like I wanted to or anything."
Kotoha Tachibana
*Looks him over*
"By the way, you've got an interesting look to you. Half of you is a different color. You don't dye it or wear colored contacts, right?"
Haruka Sakura
*Looks at her and stops eating.*
"Huh? You got something you wanna-"
Kotoha Tachibana
*Gets in his face*
"Woah. It looks like a marble. I've never seen that color

*Jerks away from her and stands up, holding out his fists*
"Well, you wanna go?
Kotoha Tachibana
*Gives him another flat look*
"I wasn't sizing you up for a fight."
Haruka Sakura
"You're the weird one here"
*Lowers his fists*
"Most people get freaked out or try pushing me away the first time they see me."

*Puts her hands on her hips as he sits back down*
"I guess that's because I'm used to seeing a guy with crazier hair. It's all like"
*Puts her hands together and makes a pointy out motion with them*

"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?"
*Lowers her hands, voice soft*

*He cuts off a bite of the omelet rice with the spoon making a small clink sound*

"That's some pretty big talk"
*Cleaning a pan*

"Not really."
*Takes a bite and talks with his mouth full*
"When you're the lowest of the low, hated by others, and got nothing but your fists, fighting to be the best is the dream. A battle to determine the trashiest of the trash. That's right up my alley"
Kotoha Tachibana
*Hangs the pan up*
"Sounds like you've got high standards."
*She turns to him and squeals. Her voice is much less serious now*
"So, you're wearing a school uniform even though classes start tomorrow because you're so excited!"
*Points to him, teasing*

*Gasps softly and slams his fists on the counter*
"I am not! Take that back! I just moved here and don't got any more clothes!"
Kotoha Tachibana
"You're the worst liar, but yeah sure"
*Her arms are crossed, and she has an evil smile on her face.*
"There's no way you're looking forward to high school life"
Haruka Sakura
"You! Me! Outside now!"
*Stands up*
Grandpa Yama
*Walks through the café*
"Bye, Kotoha. Thanks for the meal. I left the money on the table."
Kotoha Tachibana
*Walks up to him*
"Okay then, bye! Thanks for coming Grandpa Yama. Please be careful"

*Stops walking in front of the door, facing her*
"I'll be sure to swing by again soon"

"Hey, old man,"
*Sakura stands behind the two of them*

*Holds out a small yellow gift bag*
"Almost forgot your stuff"
They both stare for a second

*Walks to Sakura*
"Oh my, goodness me! Seems I've been forgetting a lot of things lately."
*Takes the bag*

*Walks back to his seat*
The door opens, and the bell jingles

*Walks in after Grandpa Yama leaves*

*Walking on the street looking at the candies in his hand*

*Sets on candies down on the counter, standing on the customer side with him.*
"That thing he left was apparently a gift for his grandkid. He was appreciative. Said you were a lifesaver"

*Eyes widen, gasps, and blushes*

"Kind of a strange thing to blush over"
Haruka Sakura
"Huh? Do you say whatever comes to mind? Turns out this whole town's full of crazies, and you're sitting on the throne!"
*Looks straight ahead*
Haruka Sakura
*Fidgets with a button on his jacket*
"You guys are cool with me. On top of that, you're not even fazed I'm wearing the uniform for a school full of rejects! You don't show my kind gratitude"
*Finally faces her, still blushing*
"It doesn't make any sense! Normal folk would have their guard up and be suspicious. One time, when I picked up this guy's wallet, he accused me of stealing it from his pocket. While that old guy didn't even check to make sure the gift was still inside!"
Kotoha Tachibana
"Now I'm confused whether you want people to trust you or like it when they don't"
*Chuckles softly and walks back to the door*
"Anyway, I think you were right to come to Furin. One thing, you can forget about that whole, top of the school deal."
*Arms are crossed and there's some hair in her face*
"Never gonna happen"
Kotoha Tachibana
"Based on how you've been acting, I can already tell, no one at Furin is going to give you time of day."
Haruka Sakura
*Stands up*
"As if! You haven't seen how strong I really am"
Kotoha Tachibana
"I never said you couldn't hold your own in a fight. But that's not enough to be king of the school. Know why?"
*Points at him*
"'Cause you're alone"
Haruka Sakura
*Eyes widen and he knocks the barstool over*
"I'm not some wimp who needs a sidekick- and I'll prove it!"
*Walks to the door*
Kotoha Tachibana
"I'm not talking about all the physical stuff. You know, you really ought to meet the Furin kids."
*Bell jingles*
"After you do, I'm sure you'll understand"

*Stands in the middle of the street with his hands in his pockets, looking at the sky*
A biker gang is tearing up the area
The guy he beat up earlier is there

*Stands in front of a big group*
"Well, what do we got? Gotta say, I didn't think you'd have the guts to face off with us again. Pathetic little Furin punk."

*Stands there for a moment before walking toward them*

*Puts a hand to his shoulder to stop him from walking*
"You ignorin' me now? You go 'round telling others to not forget your face and name, but here you are, not even botherin' to remember mine? Then again, that ugly mug of yours leaves an impression. Hair mesh and colored contacts? You cosplayin'?"
*Looks closely at Sakura*
"Huh? Is that your real hair? And are those your real eyes?"
Other guy: "You mean he was born that way?"
Other guy: "Guy's a cat?"
Other guy: "Meow"
*Laughs*

*Smirks*
💭Now this is more like it. The right reaction to someone like me. Everyone's always rejecting and pushing me away. But I don't care. I gave up. At the very least, I want to find some value in myself. If I beat the guy in front of me, that means I'm better than him. One step closer to being #1.💭

*He bends the bat*

"Matsumoto! Kaji! Yanagida! Don't you dare let a single one of 'em get past us, or you'll answer to me!"
*Throws the bent bat like a boomerang*
*They charge and start fighting*

"You too, missy!"

*Smirks and starting fighting with them*

*Looks between his cut ankle and the guy*

The civilians support Furin from their apartments

"What's going on here?"

*Walks toward him*
"Don't remember? I mentioned to you earlier how this town was crawling with different teams and gangs. All the fighting was unsafe and taking over our home. Well, that used to be the case. Until things changed 2 years ago. And the ones responsible were the students of Furin High. You know the first thing they did? Made a sign on the neighborhoods edge."
Toma Hiragi
"If ya can't even use a damn bat right, then at least learn how to read! 'Anyone past this point, who causes pain, who brings destruction, who holds evil in their heart-"
Kotoha Tachibana
"When they first started out, the fighters were operating under Furin High's banner, but it wasn't long before the locals eventually gave them a new name. They protected the town, and they deserve to be honored."
Toma Hiragi
"THOSE PUNKS ARE GONNA GET PURGED! BY BOFURIN WITHOUT EXCEPTION!"
Kotoha Tachibana
"We call them Bofurin. Also known as, the Wind Breaker."
The fight is over and all the civilians are cheering for the students.

*Kicks one of the bodies in the gut and spits on him*
Kotoha Tachibana
"They were the lowest of the low. They used to be hated by all, but not anymore. They're still fighting, but they're doing it for a good cause. Now they're loved by the community. They're needed by everyone."

💭What the Hell? They're in this for justice? It almost sounds like they're heroes They look like street-fighting punks. But the people aren't afraid of shunning them. They've been accepted here. What?💭

"You were pretty amazing too"
*A strange man says to him*

(This is a civilian lady)
"Fended them off using only your fists!

(Different civilian lady)
"Young man, your leg was injured right? You ought to get that treated right away"
*She's on her knees with a first aid box, reaching for his ankle to help*

"Stop it!"
*He steps back, panting*

(The lady on her knees)
*Staring at him in surprise*
Kotoha Tachibana
"Sakura..."
*Gets on her knees to treat the cut*
"What I said earlier about you being on your own, it was true. But I can tell that you didn't willingly end up that way. At least, I think. The people of this town, they're going to depend on you."
Haruka Sakura
*Shouts at her*
"Who are you tryin' to convince, huh? I don't need anyone, and I don't want anything from them either. You got it?"
Kotoha Tachibana
*Her voice is calm and serene*
"I don't buy that. Why'd you give Grandpa Yama the gift he forgot? Why did you save me twice now? You haven't given up on others yet,"
*Ties a bandage around his ankle*
"and you don't have to. At the very least, I'm going to look you straight in the eye. So, please, do the same. Look up and face us. Once you do, I'm sure. You'll find what you've been searching for."
Haruka Sakura
*Looks up and sees them all looking at them. Everyone.*
Haruka Sakura
*Runs at the Furin students and jumps*
"So you delinquents are trying to play hero? If all you gotta do is win a fight, even someone like me can manage that! And this Bofurin crap? Guardians of the neighborhood? That sounds awesome! I'm totally in!"
*Kicks the guy who was originally harassing Kotoha in the face. He had gotten back up and was walking towards the students.*

Everyone stares at him with shock and a bit of pride
Kotoha Tachibana
*Smiles*
💭A boy, the lowest of the low, hated by all, worth nothing but his fists. This is how he became the hero of our town.💭
