THE EMBERWOOD

The trees bled fire.

Jungkook stepped carefully over a root that pulsed with a faint crimson glow, the kind of light that didn't come from the sun. Around him, the Emberwood whispered—not with wind, but with voices. Echoes. Syllables that didn’t belong to any language he knew.

Behind him, Taehyung moved with eerie ease, his bare feet leaving no mark on the ash-coated soil. The flames curling from his fingertips flared softly whenever the whispers grew louder.

"You hear them too"

Jungkook murmured, eyes scanning the darkened canopy.

Jungkook

“The voices.”

Taehyung paused beside a tree charred black but very much alive.

.“They’re the wardens who came before me. Their fire never left this forest. Only those with the mark can understand them.”

Jungkook touched his collarbone. The sigil—once faint—now burned under his skin like it had always belonged there.

Jungkook

“And what are they saying?” he asked, wary.

Taehyung tilted his head, eyes far away.

“They're warning me... that you’re not ready.”

Before Jungkook could reply, a gust of heat surged through the trees—too sudden, too alive. From the shadows stepped a robed figure with fire for eyes and no face at all.

A voice—low and ancient—rumbled from its chest:

Silence fell. Then the flames in the trees leaned away from Jungkook—as if bowing. The Emberwood had accepted him. For now.

THE TEMPLE OF THE FIRST FLAME

The temple stood carved into the mountainside, its entrance hidden beneath falling ash and time-worn stone. As they stepped through the threshold, the world behind them dimmed—soundless, breathless.

Inside, the flame did not burn with heat. It floated in the center of the cavern: a single, suspended fire, still and silent, glowing gold.

Jungkook instinctively reached for his sword.

“Don’t,” Taehyung whispered.

“This is not fire made to burn.”

As they approached, the flame flickered—and visions spilled into the air.

A woman screaming with the mark on her chest. A soldier falling into darkness. A kingdom on fire. Two hands reaching for each other… only for one to vanish.

Then, the prophecy etched itself into the stone wall before them:

“Two flames bound in fate— One shall burn, One shall break. Together, they awaken ruin or rebirth.”

Jungkook looked at Taehyung.

“What does it mean?”

Taehyung’s voice was quiet.

The flame dimmed. The mountain groaned.

And then, through the flames, he saw him.

A figure stood untouched at the heart of the fire. Robed in crimson and gold, barefoot on molten stone, and crowned in shadow. He was serene, almost unreal. Fire spiraled around his arms like tame serpents. His face—sharp, elegant—was turned skyward, as if in prayer.

And glowing just beneath his collarbone was a sigil: a flame wrapped around a broken star.

Jungkook’s breath caught. He knew that mark.

Not from life—but from legend. A cursed sign. The Mark of the Flameborn—the one destined to bring ruin to whomever dared love him.

The figure opened his eyes and looked at him.

Not past him. Not through him.

At him.

Then the ground split beneath Jungkook’s feet. The eastern gate groaned, the last tower shuddering.

He ran forward.
