I am Maya, a therapist living an ordinary life—until one day, I received a strange and unsettling letter from a former student of mine named Samantha.

The letter read:

“Maya, I’ve been hiding my true feelings for a long time…”

My hands trembled as I read it. My heart pounded. I immediately grabbed my phone and called her.

Her voice on the other end was chilling—sad and distant.

“Maya, I’ve loved you for so long,” she said quietly. “But I didn’t know how to tell you before… because you were my mentor.”

My heartbeat quickened. I didn’t know what to say, what to feel. Confusion and fear overwhelmed me.

Just then, someone knocked on my door—it was my boyfriend, Alex.

I hid the letter.

But even as I smiled at him, my heart remained restless. I started to question my feelings. What did I truly feel for Samantha? And what would it mean for my relationship with Alex?

The next day, another letter arrived. This time, it was more direct:

“Maya, I want to see you at your office tonight. 9 PM. Please… let’s talk face to face.”

I was stunned by her boldness. But I went.

That night, I sat in my dimly lit office, heart pounding. Then, I heard the door slowly creak open. And there she was—Samantha, standing in front of me, the moonlight revealing her face.

“Maya… I love you,” she said as she stepped forward.

And then she kissed me.

For a moment, I let myself feel the warmth, the connection… until a voice behind us made me freeze.

“Maya, what are you doing?”

It was Alex.

I turned around, breathless. I knew I had to be honest.

“Alex, I need to explain. Samantha is a former student… she has feelings for me. And now, I’m beginning to question my own feelings too.”

He looked hurt, confused.

“What are you saying, Maya? Do you love her?”

I hesitated. Then I said it.

“Yes, Alex. I feel something for her. I don’t know how it started or what it means, but it’s real.”

He stared at me, wounded—but then, he said something that shook my world.

“Maya… Samantha is my sister.”

I froze.

“What? Why didn’t you ever tell me?”

Alex looked like he was holding back pain.

“We’re siblings, but we grew apart. We fought over something years ago—a woman we both loved.”

My voice shook. “Who?”

He hesitated. Then, finally:

“Her name was… Lexa, Maya. Before you changed your last name. It was you.”

I was speechless.

“Samantha, what does this mean? How did we know each other before?”

She stepped closer, tears in her eyes.

“Maya, you and I… we were lovers in college. But something happened—you got into a terrible accident. You lost your memories… including me.”

I could barely breathe.

“Alex loved you too,” she added. “When he realized you forgot about me, he stepped in… and I couldn’t stop him.”

Then, it all started coming back—like a wave of broken pieces being put together again.

“Alex, why didn’t you ever tell me the truth? Why did you let me live a life without knowing my past?”

He looked down.

“Because the doctors said your memory loss was fragile. If your memories came back too fast, it could hurt you. I was afraid… I didn’t want to lose you again.”

Tears rolled down my cheeks.

“But I want to know everything now. Please, tell me.”

Alex slowly pulled out an old photo album.

In it were pictures—me, Alex, and Samantha, smiling, laughing, close. Then I saw one that made my heart stop:

It was a photo of me holding a ring with the engraving:

“Will you marry me, Samantha?”

I turned to her. She was crying.

I felt my heart breaking open, old love flooding back.

“Samantha… I remember now. I remember everything. And... And I still love you.”

She looked at me, hopeful but trembling.

I stepped forward, held her hand, and kissed her—this time, not with doubt, but with memory, love, and truth.

Alex watched silently. Then he smiled, bittersweet.

“Go, Maya. You found your way back.”

And in the quiet night, under the soft moonlight, I chose love—love I once lost but now found again in the dark.
