chapter 1
Skylar sat on the couch in his small apartment, holding a neatly wrapped gift in his hands. His heart pounded with excitement as he glanced at the clock. 8:30 PM. Leonardo was supposed to arrive an hour ago.
He checked his phone for any messages. Nothing.
Skylar bit his lip, staring at the beautifully set dining table. He had cooked Leonard’s favorite meal, decorated the place with soft candlelight, and even wore the shirt Leonardo once said looked good on him. He wanted tonight to be perfect.
But Leonard… hadn’t even called.
Just as Skylar was about to lose hope, the sound of keys jingling at the door made him sit up straight. The door swung open, and Leonard stepped inside. He looked as sharp as ever in his tailored suit, his tie slightly loosened, his expression unreadable.
Skylar
* face lit up* Leonard! You’re finally here!
Leonard barely glanced at him as he tossed his briefcase onto the couch and walked straight to the fridge, grabbing a bottle of water. He took a sip before responding.
Leonardo Carter
Hm? What’s with the candles and food?
chapter 2
Skylar
excitement dimmed a little, but he quickly smiled.
Skylar
It’s our anniversary, remember? I wanted to do something special for us.
Leonardo Carter
leaned against the counter, his gaze cold.
Leonardo Carter
Anniversary? Oh. That’s today? *He chuckled dryly*
Leonardo Carter
You actually keep track of that stuff?
Skylar’s heart sank. He had spent all day making everything perfect, hoping Leonardo would be happy. But instead…
Skylar
You forgot? * voice was small, his fingers tightening around the gift in his lap*
Leonardo Carter
*sighed* Sky, I’ve been busy. I don’t have time for this cheesy stuff *He glanced at the gift* What’s that?
Skylar
*hesitated before holding it out* It’s… for you. I got you something special
Leonard took it, unwrapping it lazily. Inside was an expensive watch one that he had admired months ago but never bought for himself.
Leonardo Carter
*let out a low whistle* Damn, Sky. You spent a lot on this, didn’t you?
nodded, hoping for at least a "thank you" But Leonard only smirked and slipped the watch onto his wrist.
Leonardo Carter
Not bad *He ruffled Skylar’s hair like he was a child* You’re too soft, you know that?
Skylar swallowed the lump in his throat. He had wanted Leonard to say something sweet, to acknowledge their relationship. But all he got was indifference.
Skylar
*Still, he forced a smile* I just wanted to make you happy.
Leonardo Carter
* smirked, leaning down until their faces were inches apart* You want to make me happy?
Leonardo Carter
*His fingers traced Skylar’s jaw, tilting his chin up* Then stop expecting so much from me.
Skylar’s breath hitched. His heart screamed at him that this wasn’t love at least, not the kind he dreamed of.
But still… he loved Leonard.
chapter 3
Skylar walked through the crowded hallways of his school, his backpack slung over one shoulder. His classmates chattered and laughed around him, but his mind was elsewhere stuck on last night.
Leonard didn’t care about their anniversary.
Even after Skylar spent so much time preparing, Leonardo acted like it was nothing. Skylar knew he shouldn’t expect much, but still… his heart ached.
He snapped out of his thoughts as his best friend, Noah, waved at him from their usual lunch spot.
Noah
You okay? You look like a zombie * raising an eyebrow*
Skylar
* forced a small smile and sat down.* Just tired.
Noah
* leaned in, lowering his voice* Did something happen with Leonardo again?
Skylar hesitated. Noah never liked Leonardo He always said Skylar deserved better, but Skylar didn’t want to hear that right now.
Skylar
No, it’s fine *mumbled, poking at his lunch*
Noah
*sighed* Sky, I know you won’t listen to me, but… you need to stop letting him treat you like this.
