A Family Affair

chapter 1

Bride’s Room

Nikita (rushing in, slightly breathless): “Didi… Didi… chaliye, aapko pandit ji ne bulaya hai… sab intezaar kar rahe hain. Chaliye na…”

(She stops in her tracks, noticing Shanvi sitting on the edge of the bed, tears streaming down her face.)

Nikita (softly, concerned): “Didi… aap ro kyun rahi ho? Abhi toh aapki shaadi bhi nahi hui… sab kuch theek toh hai na?” 🥺

Nikita (blinks in surprise as she notices someone else in the room): “A-ap? Arya bhaiya? Aap yahaan? Main toh aapki bhabhi ko lene aayi thi… toh phir…?”

(Arya stands silently near the window, his expression tense. Shanvi suddenly breaks down.)

Shanvi (in a trembling voice): “Mujhe yeh shaadi nahi karni hai!” 😭

Nikita (alarmed): “Par Didi… aap kya keh rahi ho? Abhi… abhi kuch der mein varmala hai… sab log neeche…”

Shanvi (interrupting): “Main Arya se pyaar karti hoon, Nikita… main usi se shaadi karna chahti hoon…”

Nikita (shocked): “Kya? Aap… Arya bhaiya se…?”

Shanvi (crying harder): “Haan! Main Arya se pyaar karti hoon! Aur agar meri shaadi kisi aur se karwa di gayi, toh main apni jaan de doongi! Main zeher kha lungi!”

Nikita (panicked): “Didi! Aap yeh kya keh rahi ho! Aapko pata bhi hai neeche kya ho raha hai? Maa, Baba… unka kya hoga?”

Arya (finally speaking, voice low but conflicted): “Shanvi… yeh tum kya keh rahi ho? Yeh koi hal nahi hai…”

Shanvi (angrily): “Toh yeh sab kehne se pehle sochna chahiye tha Arya! Mujhse pyaar karte ho, par jab samay aaya toh peeth dikha di?”

Nikita: “Yeh sab… itne dino se chhupaya gaya ?”

Arya (looking guilty): “Main abhi bhi tumse pyaar karta hoon, Shanvi… par meri family… mere bhai… unka kya? Yeh sab unke liye bhi bahut bada jhatka hoga.”

(Shanvi suddenly looks up, her voice barely a whisper.)

Shanvi: “I am pregnant…”

(A moment of stunned silence fills the room.)

Arya (in disbelief): “Kya…?”

Nikita (eyes wide): “Ky-----”

????? (from behind): “Kya…?”

(They all turn sharply towards the door. Vishu, the younger sister of shanvi, stands frozen at the threshold, equally shocked.)

Shanvi (startled): “Vishu…”

Nikita: “Didi… aapne… yeh... yeh sab humse chhupaya?”

Vishu (confused and overwhelmed): “Didi… yeh baccha… Arya bhaiya ka hai?”

????? (from the corridor, a stern voice): “Kaunsa baccha? Kaisa baccha…?”

(Everyone turns toward the door again as Mrs. Thakur, their mother, enters with a grave expression.)

Shanvi (faltering): “Maa…”

Vishu: “Maa…”

Nikita: “M—”

Arya (cutting in nervously): “Aunty…”

(Nikita glares at Arya, clearly annoyed by being interrupted again.)

Mrs. Thakur (voice cold): “Yeh sab kya ho raha hai? Shaadi ka mohurat nikal raha hai, aur tum log yahaan…?”

Shanvi (on the verge of breaking): “Maa… main… main aapse kuch kehna chahti hoon…”

Mrs. Thakur (sharply): “Kya ‘main-main’? Seedha bolo, Shanvi.

Arya: “Aunty, main bataata hoon...

Arya: “Aunty… galti meri hai. Mujhe yeh sab pehle keh dena chahiye tha… main aur Shanvi—”

????? (calling from the hall): “Yeh sab kya ho raha hai upar? Neeche sab intezaar kar rahe hain!”

(Mrs. Thakur, Shanvi, Arya, Nikita, and Vishu all look toward the door again.)

Voice (from outside): “Mrs. Thakur, aap sab ko neeche bulaya gaya hai. ”

Mrs. Thakur (turning to look at the voice): “Aap…”

Shanvi: “Aunty…”

Vishu: “Aunty…”

Nikita: “Aun—”

Arya (again cutting in): “Mom…”

(Nikita narrows her eyes, angry and fed up with Arya’s constant interruptions.)

chapter 2

The bridal room is filled with a heavy, suffocating silence. Tension hangs in the air like a storm waiting to erupt.

Arya( softly ): mom

Mrs. Suryavanshi ( smiling warmly, a bit surprised ): Arya beta, tum yahan kya kar rahe ho?

Arya (nervously fumbling for words): Mom… main… woh… aap…

Mrs. Suryavanshi (lightly scolding): Kya Arya? Sab log dulhan ka intezaar kar rahe hain, aur tum log yahan chhup kar baatein kar rahe ho?

Shanvi (hesitantly, voice trembling): Aa… aunty… main… main…

Mrs. Suryavanshi (gentle tone): Haan beta, kya hua? Sab tumhara intezaar kar rahe hain neeche. Sab kuch toh tayar hai… Tum pareshaan ho?

(She notices the tears in Shanvi’s eyes.)

Mrs. Suryavanshi (concerned noticing Shanvi’s pale face ): Arey… tum toh ro rahi ho? Beta, main samajh sakti hoon… har ladki ko thodi ghabrahat hoti hai apni shaadi se pehle. Par darne ki koi zarurat nahi. Mera beta Shivansh tumhe hamesha khush rakhega… dekhna.

Shanvi (suddenly breaking down, voice shaky ): Aunty… main… main Shivansh se shaadi nahi karna chahti…

Mrs. Suryavanshi (shocked and completely stunned, stepping back ): Kya…?

Shanvi (trying to gather courage, wiping her tears):): Main Arya se pyaar karti hoon… aur main usi se shaadi karna chahti hoon…

(There’s a pin-drop silence. Mrs. Suryavanshi stares at Shanvi, disbelief clouding her eyes. Arya lowers his head, guilt spreading over his face.)

Mrs. Suryavanshi (speechless, almost in a whisper, shattered):): Ye… tum kya keh rahi ho… shanvi..? Tum… Arya se?

(Suddenly, a loud voice echoes from the doorway.)

?????: Kya?!

(Everyone’s head jerks toward the door. Standing there, eyes burning with fury, is Mr. Thakur. His chest heaves with controlled rage. Beside him stands Mr. Suryavanshi, his expression cold and unreadable.)

Mrs suryavanshi(stammering): A.ap...

Mrs Thakur: Aap...

Shanvi: papa...

Vishu: papa...

Nikita: pa-----

Arya: papa..

(Nikita narrows her eyes and crosses her arms, her jaw tight, clearly angry and fed up with Arya’s constant interruptions and the chaos he's brought into their family.)

(Mr. Thakur walks into the room, his shoes echoing ominously on the marble floor. He glares at Shanvi, betrayal evident in his eyes.)

( Mr. Thakur, standing tall, eyes burning with rage and disappointment. )

Mr. Thakur (stern, dangerously calm):

Shanvi… kya yeh sab… sach hai?

Shanvi (voice trembling): P-papa…

main Arya se pyaar karti hoon… main usi se shaadi karna chahti hoon…

Mr. Thakur (furious, voice rising): SHUT UP, SHANVI! Tumhari himmat kaise hui? Apne maa-baap ke bharose ka aise khoon kar diya? Hamari izzat, hamari reputation… sab kuch daav par laga diya tumne!

Arya (stepping forward, defending Shanvi):

Uncle, please… aap..gussa mujh par nikaliye. Galti shanvi ki nhi meri hai. Main samajhta hoon ke yeh waqt nahi tha sab batane ka… lekin hum dono ki feelings sachchi hain.

Mr. Suryavanshi (cold, composed, voice heavy with disappointment): Feelings? Sachchai? Yeh shaadi koi bachon ka khel nahi hai, Arya. Yeh sirf pyaar ka nahi, zimmedari ka faisla hai. Aur tum dono jaante ho tumne kya kiya hai.

Mrs. Suryavanshi (still stunned, voice cracking):

Arya… tumne.. apne.. bhai ke saath… yeh sab…?

(A moment of silence, the air thick with tension. Shanvi breaks down completely, falling to her knees.)

Shanvi (crying, voice filled with despair):

Main bas khush rehna chahti hoon…Arya ke saath.  main..main...Shivansh ki zindagi barbaad nahi karna chahti.....aap..aap log samajhte.. kyun... nhi...?

(She clutches the edge of her lehenga, trying to breathe through her sobs.)

Arya (kneeling beside her, holding her shoulders): Shanvi…

(Everyone watches — some stunned, some angry, some just silent. The two families stand on the edge of chaos, hearts broken, trust shattered.)

chapter 3

Wedding Ceremony Scene

Pandit Ji (calmly chanting):

Aap dono vivaah ke pavitra bandhan mein bandhne ja rahe hain. Kripya fere ke liye khade ho jaiye.

(Shivansh and the bride slowly rise to their feet. The air feels heavy with tension, yet the sacred fire in the middle crackles softly, casting a warm glow. Each step they take around the fire binds them—not just in ritual, but in silence, in duty, and in secrets neither of them expected to carry.)

Pandit Ji:

Ab vadhu ke maang mein sindoor bhariye.

(Shivansh picks up the sindoor with slightly trembling fingers. As he gently lifts her veil to see her face, his breath catches for a brief moment. Time stills. His eyes meet hers—and recognition flashes. But he says nothing. Not a word. Just a slight clench of his jaw. He lowers his gaze and slowly applies the sindoor in her maang. A little of it accidentally falls onto her nose and cheek, painting her face like a silent promise.)

(The bride closes her eyes, a single tear escaping as the moment becomes real.)

Pandit Ji:

Ab mangalsutra pehnaiye.

(Shivansh takes the black-beaded mangalsutra and carefully ties it around her neck. His fingers linger for a second longer than they should before falling away with a sigh.)

Pandit Ji (with a faint smile):

Vivah sampann hua. Ab aap dono bado ka aashirwad lijiye.

(The newlyweds stand and begin touching the feet of their elders.)

Shivansh’s grandparents (with wet eyes):

Khush raho beta. Shivansh, apni patni ka hamesha saath dena. Aur beta, sada suhagan raho… meri pyari bachchi.

Mrs. Suryavanshi (wiping her eyes, cupping the bride’s face):

Khush...raho...beta… bas khush rehna.

Mr. Suryavanshi (with a rare softness):

Aaj se tum sirf hamare ghar ki bahu nahi, balki humari beti bhi ho.

Mr. and Mrs. Thakur (holding her hands tightly, their voices shaking):

Khush rehna meri pyari bachchi… apne sasural ko apna banana. Apne pati ka dhyan rakhna, beta. Aur hamesha muskurati rehna.

Bride (breaking down, voice trembling):

Ma… Ma… main aap sabko bahut yaad karungi…

(She throws herself into her mother’s arms, both weeping silently. The moment is heart-wrenching. As the bride sits in the car, her teary eyes keep glancing back—at her home, her parents, her childhood fading slowly with every passing second.)

Inside the Car

(An awkward silence stretches between them. Only the faint hum of the engine and occasional sniffles fill the space.)

Shivansh (sighs and finally breaks the silence):

Ab aur kitna rona baki hai aapka, Mrs. Shivansh Suryavanshi?

Bride (stammering):

Huh... j-jii... aap... main...

Shivansh (handing her a tissue):

Lo, aansu pocho. Aur pani piyo, warna dehydration ho jayega rona dhona karke.

Bride (quietly):

Huh...Ji...

Shivansh (offers a bottle of water):

Lo... thoda sa pee lo. Tum thak gayi hogi, itna rona koi choti baat thodi hai.

Bride:

Huh..Ji... th-thank you.

Shivansh (lets out a small chuckle):

Kuch nahi... sojao. Main tumhe jagaa dunga jab ghar aa jayenge, thik hai?

Bride (softly nodding):

Huh...Ji…ji..

Shivansh (teasing lightly):

Tumhe "huh" aur "ji" ke alawa kuch aur bolna aata hai? Ya yahi fixed vocabulary hai tumhari?

Bride (finally lets out a small nervous laugh):

Shaayad… aaj ke liye bas itna hi hai.

Shivansh (smiling faintly):

Chalo... improvement hai. Ab sojao.

(The bride leans against the seat, still clutching her dupatta, her heart beating fast, uncertain what the night will bring.)

At Suryavanshi Mansion –

(The entrance of the grand mansion is lit up like a dream. Golden fairy lights, fresh marigold garlands, and a vibrant rangoli welcome the new bride. A large silver thali rests by the door.)

Mrs. Suryavanshi (smiling warmly despite tears):

Aarti ki thali le aayi hoon. Is ghar mein tumhara pehla kadam shubh ho, beta.

(She performs the aarti, her eyes softening as she looks at the bride. The bride gently nudges the kalash with her right foot, the rice spilling forward in a graceful arc—a symbol of wealth and good fortune.)

(The bride then dips her feet in the alta tray and walks ahead, leaving deep red footprints on the white sheet spread before her. Every step she takes echoes in the silent hallway—echoes of a new beginning.)

Mrs. Suryavanshi (placing a hand on her shoulder lovingly):

Aaj se yeh tumhara ghar hai, beta. Apna hi samajhna.

(The bride nods, swallowing back emotion. Shivansh walks silently beside her, his expression unreadable, his thoughts elsewhere. The bride steals a glance at him—he isn’t a stranger, yet he feels like one.)

(As they enter the house, everyone claps softly. The atmosphere is warm, yet something unspoken lingers in the air between the newlyweds.)
