Gamer Life: Episode 1 – The Beginning of Justin's Journey

Justin's Background

Justin is a 15-year-old boy who has been passionate about gaming since he was young. Born on May 2, 1994, he’s now 15 years old in 2009. His parents, David and Olivia, are both in their late 30s. David works in tech and is very supportive of Justin’s interests. Olivia, his mother, works as a nurse. They were both born and raised in London, England.

Justin’s Early Gaming Years

Justin's love for gaming started when he was around 11 years old, in 2005, just when YouTube came out. At this time, Justin was heavily into games like Assassin's Creed II, Portal, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which he played on his family’s old desktop. But in 2009, Justin's life was about to change when his father bought a new game for him.

Minecraft Alpha Version

Justin’s dad, who worked for a tech company, gifted him a game called Minecraft. It wasn’t the full version yet; it was the alpha version. Even though it wasn’t the polished version, Justin fell in love with it immediately. He started doing research about Minecraft on his Intel Core 2 laptop.

While browsing, Justin discovered that Minecraft was created by a man named Markus "Notch" Persson. Justin was fascinated by the creator's journey and said, “Lit, Notch!” which became his favorite phrase from that moment on.

Justin's First Steps into YouTube

After learning about Minecraft, Justin wanted to share his experience with others. He decided to create a YouTube channel. To do that, he used his mom’s phone, the HTC Tattoo, to download the YouTube app. The HTC Tattoo had a 256 MB storage and 2.8-inch screen—not much for modern standards, but it worked for Justin’s plans.

Justin creates his YouTube account by going to the YouTube website, signing up, and confirming his email. He decided to go with the channel name "JustinGamer95". He didn’t take a profile picture at first but wanted to work on the banner.

Creating the Banner

Justin had learned some basic design skills using GIMP, a free image editing software. For his YouTube channel banner, he made a Minecraft-themed design. The banner featured an iconic Minecraft block (like a grass block) with a pixelated font that said "JustinGamer95". It had a background of the Minecraft world, with a Creeper in the corner and Steve, the main character, in the center.

Begging for a New Phone

Justin was determined to make his gaming and YouTube journey more serious. He begged his dad to buy him a 2009 mobile phone. After much convincing, David bought him a Nokia 5310 XpressMusic. It cost about £50-£80 at the time, which was a pretty affordable phone. Though it wasn’t a smartphone, it had a good enough camera for basic needs, and Justin was excited.

Setting Up His Channel and Playing Minecraft

Justin finally set up his YouTube account on his new phone and logged in to watch Minecraft tutorials. Then, on his Intel Core 2 laptop, he downloaded the Minecraft alpha version. As he opened the game, the computer beeped as it loaded. Justin smiled as it eventually worked, showing the character creation screen.

He decided to name his first Minecraft character “JMaster_95”—a nod to his gaming identity. The character had short black hair and was wearing a basic Steve skin with a blue shirt and brown pants. Justin took a screenshot of his character and decided to edit it in Photoshop to make it look even cooler. He added a slight glow effect to the character and a background of a Minecraft world at sunset. The edited image became his profile picture on YouTube.

This marked the beginning of Justin’s journey into both gaming and content creation. With his passion and determination, he would soon start creating Minecraft tutorials, gameplay videos, and more.

The Night Before the Recording

It was a quiet evening in Justin’s room. The clock showed 8:30 PM. His parents, David and Olivia, were downstairs watching TV. Justin had just finished his homework and was eager to start his first ever Minecraft video for his YouTube channel, "JustinGamer95".

He grabbed his gaming headset—a Logitech G230—which cost around £40 back in 2009. It wasn’t the most expensive model, but it was comfortable and offered great sound quality for recording gameplay. After putting on his headset, he flipped off his room’s light, closed his window to avoid distractions, and turned to his parents to let them know.

“Mom, Dad, I’m making a video. I’ll be in my room, okay?” Justin said.

His dad, David, gave him a thumbs-up from the hallway.

“Have fun, son!” David called out.

Setting Up for the Video

Justin walked back to his desk, his mind racing with excitement. He pulled out his Logitech webcam, a little 2009 model with a resolution of 720p. He placed it on top of his computer, aiming it at his desk setup. He opened Minecraft, feeling the familiar thrill of anticipation as the game loaded. The screen flickered with the familiar loading screen as his character, JMaster_95, stood in a new Minecraft world.

Recording the Video

With everything ready, Justin hit the record button on his screen capture software—CamStudio, which was free but not the most powerful. The red recording dot appeared in the corner of the screen, and the webcam light turned on.

He began speaking into his microphone:

“Hey, guys! JustinGamer95 here! Welcome back to the channel. Today, we’re going to explore the new world I just created in Minecraft!”

He started moving his character around, showing off the basics: breaking blocks, crafting tools, and building a tiny house. As Justin was recording, he added his personal touch:

“Check this out, guys! I’m going to make the coolest little underground bunker right here.” He started digging down and constructing a simple but impressive base, all while explaining how to mine resources effectively. Every now and then, Justin would let out an excited “Whoa!” or “That’s cool!” when he found something interesting in the game, making it feel like a casual, fun experience for his viewers.

After 15 minutes of gameplay, Justin smiled and clicked stop recording.

Editing the Video

With the recording done, Justin opened his editing software, Windows Movie Maker (it was the simplest one for him to use at the time). He dragged his video clip into the timeline and began cutting out unnecessary parts. There were a few moments where his character was just standing still, and he didn’t want to bore his audience.

He added some transitions between the scenes—simple fades and wipes to keep things smooth. Justin also inserted some text on the screen for the intro:

“Welcome to JustinGamer95’s Minecraft Adventure!” with a cool Minecraft font. He made sure to add a small intro music clip—a royalty-free Minecraft music track.

Then, Justin worked on the sound. His voice was a bit quiet, so he raised the volume. He also added a few sound effects like a block breaking and a zombie growl in the background to make the video more exciting.

Once he was happy with the final edit, Justin saved the video file and prepared to upload it.

Uploading the Video to YouTube

Justin opened YouTube Studio on his Intel Core 2 laptop and clicked on the upload video button. The little progress bar appeared, showing the upload speed as it moved slowly. Justin’s heart raced as he watched it slowly fill up.

As the video was uploading, Justin started thinking about the title. He wanted it to be catchy and searchable, so he typed:

“Minecraft Alpha Adventures – Exploring New Worlds with JMaster_95!” 💥🌍

He then added a description:

“Join me, JustinGamer95, as I dive into Minecraft’s alpha version! In this episode, I build my first underground base and show you how to survive the first night! Make sure to subscribe for more epic Minecraft adventures!”

Hashtags:

Minecraft #Gaming #MinecraftAlpha #MinecraftAdventure #JustinGamer95

Finally, he chose the thumbnail—a screenshot of his Minecraft character, JMaster_95, standing proudly in front of his little underground base with the sunset in the background.

After double-checking everything, Justin hit the publish button, and just like that, his first YouTube video was live! 🎬

Celebrating the First Upload

Justin leaned back in his chair, feeling a rush of excitement. His first video was out there for the world to see. He couldn’t wait to check the views the next morning.

He quickly turned off his computer, pulled off his headset, and walked downstairs.

“I did it, Mom, Dad! My first video is up!” he said, grinning ear to ear.

David smiled, giving Justin a proud pat on the back.

“Good job, son. Keep it up!”

Two Days Later: Justin's YouTube Stats

It had been two days since Justin uploaded his first Minecraft video. He woke up early, rushed to his desk, and opened his YouTube Studio to check the stats. As the page loaded, Justin’s heart raced. He couldn’t wait to see how many views he had gotten.

He stared at the screen, then sighed and muttered, "Ain't no way..." 😅. The views were barely in the double digits. "Well, it’s a start,” he said, trying to stay optimistic. But the real disappointment hit when he saw the subscriber count.

Only 2 subscribers—one was him. Justin felt a little deflated, but he told himself to keep pushing. “Maybe I’m just not popular yet. It’s fine, I’ll get there,” he thought, trying to encourage himself. After all, it was his first video.

Then, a thought struck him. "I need to be brave." 🦸‍♂️ He looked at his subscriber count—1 real sub. So, he made the bold decision. He unsubscribed from his own channel, leaving him with just 1 subscriber.

"Okay, Justin, let's do this for real now," he said, mentally preparing for the long journey ahead.

Going to School: Meeting Friends

It was a typical day at school. Justin walked in, his backpack slung over his shoulder, thinking about his video and the challenges ahead. He passed by his friends, who were gathered by the lockers, chatting and laughing. There were 2 boys and 1 girl:

Liam – A big fan of soccer and always the joker of the group.

Aaron – Quiet but highly intelligent, with a knack for programming.

Chloe – The only girl in the group, she was both athletic and academically gifted.

“Hey, Justin!” Liam shouted as he waved.

“What’s up, guys?” Justin responded, joining them. They quickly started talking about school, games, and other random things.

Chloe: “So, Justin, how’s your YouTube channel going? Any cool Minecraft videos up yet?”

Justin scratched his head, trying to hide his nerves. “Well... yeah, I just uploaded a video, but not many views or subs yet.” He said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Aaron added, “It takes time, man. You just gotta keep uploading.” He was the calm one, always offering advice.

School Assignment: The 1000-Word Essay

After chatting for a while, the bell rang, signaling the start of class. Justin and his friends headed to their English class, where their teacher handed out an unexpected assignment.

Mr. Turner: “Alright, class! Your assignment for the next week is a 1000-word essay on female footballers. I want you to research and discuss the history, challenges, and the rise of women in football. It's due next Monday.”

Justin groaned inwardly. “A thousand words?! This is gonna take me all night!” 😩 He slumped in his seat, trying to figure out how he would manage the huge task. The thought of spending the whole night writing felt exhausting. But he didn’t have a choice.

After school, Justin rushed home and sat down at his desk. He opened his laptop and started typing, but his mind wandered back to his YouTube video.

Justin’s Essay:

Here’s what Justin wrote for the first half of his essay:

The Rise of Female Footballers

Women in football have always faced challenges, from societal expectations to the lack of resources and recognition. However, in recent years, the game has seen incredible progress. Female footballers like Marta, Alex Morgan, and Megan Rapinoe have broken barriers, proving that women can compete at the highest level.

Historically, women’s football was not taken seriously. In fact, in the early 20th century, football was banned for women in several countries, including England. However, the sport never truly disappeared, and in the 1990s, the first professional women’s football leagues started to emerge.

Challenges Faced by Female Footballers

Female players still face major obstacles today. These include lower pay compared to their male counterparts, less media coverage, and limited funding for women’s teams. Despite these challenges, the rise of social media and increased visibility has helped female athletes gain recognition.

Justin typed late into the night, fueled by determination (and a ton of snacks). When the clock hit 2:30 AM, he was finally done. He clicked submit and collapsed into his bed, exhausted. 😴

The Next Day: Recording a New Video

The next day, Justin woke up with a renewed sense of purpose. He quickly grabbed his laptop and went to his desk. “Alright, time for a new video!” he said. Justin was going to record another Minecraft video, this time with a twist.

After setting up his Logitech webcam, he hit the record button and started playing. His character, JMaster_95, was exploring a new Minecraft world, searching for diamonds. He narrated the adventure, adding his usual energy:

“What’s up, guys! JustinGamer95 here, and today we’re going deep underground in Minecraft to find some diamonds! Let’s see if we can strike gold!” 💎

The video was full of excitement, but Justin made sure to keep it educational as well. He gave tips about mining, how to avoid lava traps, and the best strategies for finding rare materials.

After recording, he went straight to Windows Movie Maker and began editing. This time, he added a cool intro animation using Minecraft blocks, along with some funny sound effects—like a creeper explosion. He also threw in a bit of dramatic music to build tension during his diamond hunt. 🔥💥

Uploading the Video

With everything ready, Justin uploaded the video to YouTube Studio. He titled it:

“Minecraft Adventures: Digging Deep for Diamonds! 💎 – JMaster_95”

Hashtags:

Minecraft #MinecraftDiamonds #Gaming #JustinGamer95

Justin clicked publish, and the video was live! 🎬
