Screen Partner

Ch 1

Xu Zheyi knew that his acting career was coming to an end. He debuted ten years ago, but only the first three years were fairly good. At that time he was still a fresh college student. Almost every popular magazine displayed his figure, and in the industry he was a fairly well known male model.

Later, a start-up brokerage company found him. He didn’t think much about the signing since from the start he was a star. At first, his income was really good. He played supporting roles in several idol dramas, commercials and was even a regular guest on some variety shows.

Although he couldn’t seem to make it to A-list, being a B-list star really wasn’t that bad either. Xu Zheyi had always been quite well off.

He liked stylish clothes and tried to save money in order to open a clothing shop in the future. He had a friend who had the same idea as he did. With two people taking out their savings and then borrowing some money from the bank, they were able to rent a small shop in the east district.

His friends flew to South Korea and Japan several times, in order to bring back items of the highest quality and with the best style. Xu Zheyi also specially requested his former magazine editor friends for favours; he asked them to help publicize the store in their magazines.

Everything seemed to be on the right track until that fateful day when he suddenly wanted to see the store on a whim. Strangely, when he arrived, the door was shut tightly.

He opened the door with a spare key and found that the whole store had been emptied. At first, he thought that he had been robbed. He soon realized, after many unsuccessful attempts to contact his friend, that he had been swindled. Xu Zheyi never asked about the things in the shop. He did not understand the accounts, and looking at them gave him a headache, so he left it all to his friend to deal with.

Because of this, when the bank called to collect the loan, he found out that his friend had borrowed a large sum of money under his name.

It was the darkest period of Xu Zheyi’s life. He had to take full responsibility for the debt owed, and the police couldn’t provide any help—even though they were alarmed. All of his accounts were frozen, with only a few thousand yuan in cash at hand.

Although a couple of good friends pooled together a sum of money so that he can live for a while, he still needs a lot of money to pay off his debts. Towards that end, he took several low-budget film in Hong Kong. Some of them were not only low budget but also of low character, and the director didn’t even treat the people there nicely.

All of his enthusiasm for acting was completely worn out at that time. The profits for the low budget piece were more than the general announcement, but Xu Zheyi’s image was ruined. He did not receive calls for other projects anymore. The results of acting in low-budget film are severe; directors think he is too wooden, with no flexibility.

Xu Zheyi didn’t know that from beginning to an end, his friend wore an innocent face, but in fact the frog in the mirror1 was a total scum. What was this kind of acting?

A while ago, his contract ended and the brokerage firm did not offer a renewal.

They reached the end of the contract termination and they just sat there for a minute. After he hesitated for a while, his agent handed him a contract. “You go back, read through this, and think about it. If you want, I can help you and the film dealer get in contact. I won’t inform the company about this contract, nor will I take a cut. I’m doing this as a friend to help you.” When Xu Zheyi heard these words, he knew that the contract was not quite right.

He returned home, sat down to read through the contract carefully, and could not help laughing bitterly.

It was a GV (gay adult video) contract. It was for a Japanese GV company known as the biggest project exporter of the year. The offered price was very attractive, enough for him to pay all the debt and would even left a bit of money. However, he needed to sign an agreement to do three films.

The contract also specified the need for anal penetration in the film.

Xu Zheyi was sure that he’s a straight man. From the past until now, he had had many girlfriends, as well as a lot of sexual experiences.

Although he didn’t seem to have the same enthusiasm towards sex as other men of the same age, when he needed release, the only thing he wanted was a woman’s soft body, not a man’s genitals.

But he did once waver in his sexuality, and the only time it was because of the situation he found himself in.

Ming Ban2 was a pretty good-looking gay, with long white limbs and a comely face. His personality was also quite introverted, and even just a little teasing would elicit a blush.

When Xu Zheyi first saw Ming Ban, he did not know why, but he particularly wanted to talk to him. He remembered that for a while he was hanging out with Ming, just the two of them doing nothing but chatting and watching TV.

At that time, Ming said, “Xu, we should open a shop together. Once we have enough money, we can buy a house near the shop for us to live, and if we reached 40, and no one married yet, we can live together.”

Xu Zheyi especially liked to listen to Ming say “we”.

That single word seemed to bind him and Ming, making them inseparable.

Xu Zheyi admitted, he hadn’t even shown his girlfriend the same gentleness that he had shown Ming Ban. Even so, when he thought of himself and Ming kissing, he still could not imagine it.

And, in the end, Ming even cost him the shirt off his back, leaving him buried in debt.

Since then, Xu Zheyi began to hate gays. He felt that they caused him, whether it was psychologically or physiologically, to feel extremely disgusting.

Ch 2

Xu Zheyi, after his contract ended, began searching for work.

The bank’s compounding interest was crushing him, he had to find a stable and well-paid job to get his debts paid on time each month, which was not easy for him. But he had no other work experience after graduating from college, except acting in an entertainment business.

Having had a large number of resumes resulted in nothing, and with his payment deadlines looming two weeks from now, Xu Zheyi picked up the contract(for the GV). And at the exact moment, his agent, Xiao Jim, called.

“So, what do you think about it?”

Xu Zheyi did not answer. After working with him for years, Xiao Ji knew that such a silence represented a promise.

“This is a big company, they have a lot of money to give and you don’t have to worry that they will owe you money.” he said. “I’ve seen this series of GV, and they’re different from the usual. The filming is very high quality.”

Xu Zheyi scoffed. High quality GV or not, doesn’t it still have an anal sex in it? The mere thought of being penetrated and by a stranger no less, made him nauseous to the point of vomiting.

“You take the script and the contract and look them over again. In a couple days I will arrange for you and the director to meet. There maybe a screen test, and if neither side has any problems, then you can sign the contract.”

“… A screen test?”

“Besides you, there are three other candidates there,” he explained, “The meaning of that screen test is to assign you to a compatible partner based on the results, but I don’t think it’s easy to speculate on the Japanese mind. Be prepared for anything.”

Xu Zheyi understood the meaning in Xiao Ji’s words, and could not help but swear inwardly, he did not expect that such gay adult videos were so popular with the public.

“I’ll probably going to know who’s on the list, so I’ll try to send you the names later,” promised Xiao Ji.

Xu Zheyi silently ended the phone call. His mind was a total mess, and it left him feeling very irritable. He picked up the script again to read through it, and although he tried reading through it several times, he could not even bring himself to go on. It was only by thinking of the money that he could eventually force himself, reluctantly, to read.

The project, which belonged to the ?Boyfriend? series, it was played by two GV actors who were satisfied by their sweet interactions and lovemakings. This series of films set a staggering sales record in Japan. The main target base was not only gay men looking for more romance, but also specifically for the rotten female group1. For these reasons, this series of films emphasized romantic aestheticism, rather than focusing on sensory stimulation.

For this year’s overseas plans, the company’s main focus was two Taiwanese couples. Their biggest selling point would be the true feelings between lovers and affectionate physical interactions.

Xu Zheyi opened the script and found that all of the characters were replaced by ABCD, which meant that none of the actors are currently fixed. He was a little bit conflicted inside. He didn’t know whether to fight for the top or bottom. After all, playing the bottom role means being penetrated, but if he chose to act as a top then he would have to penetrate someone. But the thought of his genitals going deep into someone else’s butt made Xu Zheyi want to give up right there.

The script was also very embarrassing. Since it was taking the form of a documentary, the whole film was divided into three parts. The first and second part of the film included both couples; it starts off with an interview of each couple, and then it follows the day-to-day relationship between the two people going through their daily routine, and then the highlight of sex.

The third part had all four people go to the seaside for a date, and to play beach volleyball. In the evening, although they were obviously four Taiwanese men, they would don a yukata and light Fairy Sticks2 and then finish it off by heading to bed with their respective partners.

However, when he got to the character profiles for the script, Xu Zheyi was quite surprised. The brief overview was only part of the character introduction, each character’s information took up four pages—even their favorite food was marked out. To have created four fictional characters with such depth out of thin air, those hard working Japanese filmmakers would not lose to anyone.

How each couple met was also laid out in the script. Characters A and B initially hated the mere sight of each other, and while they were trying to look for each other’s flaws, they discovered their good points and eventually fell in love. As for characters C and D, it was the predestined love at first sight.

From the list of names provided by Xiao Ji, Xu Zheyi searched the internet for the other three actor candidates and found that one of them was actually a red star. He already had a lot of experience in the exchange between Chinese and Japanese, but it was difficult to know what the person’s attitude just from the photo.

The next actor looked very good; he had shot a few GV and his eyebrows were very fine—apparently he was a bottom. The last name on the list was familiar to Xu Zheyi, called Ah Li, a magazine model, and could be counted as his junior. Compared to the other two, he was barely within his tolerance.

Xu Zheyi turned on his computer and popped in the included disc from a previous ?Boyfriend? series film that was included with the paperwork. After only five minutes, he could no longer handle it, jamming the eject button until it stopped.

He really could not watch the men talk and talk about love. Every word of affection they spoke, every bit of eye contact, it all made him think of Ming Ban, and that made him reflexively felt disgusting.

Xu Zheyi knew that he has a psychological problem, but he did not know what to do about it. He was not too positive; he had to find an outlet for his twisted hatred towards Ming, or else one day he would go mad.

Ch 3

After repeated psychological struggles, Xu Zheyi decided to sign the contract.

He arrived at the audition 10 minutes earlier than the appointed time, and after checking in with the receptionist, he was taken to the lounge.

There were already two people sitting in the lounge. One of them was the GV actor, who appeared to be more petite than his photo suggested. He glanced indifferently at the door when Xu Zheyi walked in, gave him a cursory glance, and closed his eyes and continued to listen to music. In comparison, Ah Li was much more passionate. “Hi, may I call you Yi?” Ah Li sat down next to him, all of a sudden too close to Xu Zheyi, who let out an almost imperceptible frown, but altogether managed to maintain a warm look on the surface.

“Sure, you are Ah Li?” Ah Li immediately raised a his eyebrows in pleasure, “You know me?”

Xu Zheyi lifted the corner of his mouth, “Xiao Chun and I discussed you several times. He said as long as you appeared in the issue of the magazine, sales will be particularly good.”

This may have been said as a polite remark, but it was also true. He had a slender and sturdy body, a handsome face, and a pleasing smile, like a golden retriever that followed you around everywhere. This look was very popular among female readers.

“What’s that, I simply can not compare with you,” Ah Li smiled embarrassedly, “Hey, can I exchange numbers with you?”

“Fine,” Xu Zheyi took out his cell phone from his pocket. After the exchange was completed, Ah Li moved his hands over his phone and, soon after, Xu Zheyi’s cell phone vibrated.

His alert indicated he received an email from Ah Li. Xu Zheyi glanced at him, and then opened the message, which read: Why don’t we try making a team, the guy next to you looks a little too enigmatic. Finally, a big smiley emoji was attached.

Xu Zheyi looked at that smelly faced G star, and not stop himself from sneering slightly, returned: I guess.

They looked at each other, and reached a consensus. The next second, the door whipped open and Xu Zheyi looked back as a tall man came in. Xu Zheyi initially thought he was a staff member, but after seeing his face, he felt he was a bit familiar.

“Ruka,” called the GV star that they had been mutually ignoring. He put down his phone, removed his headphones, and spoke with a tone of voice that hinted at past intimacy.

“Long time no see. I didn’t think you would promise to perform this film, I asked Naho and them, they all told me you decided to quit the circle … ”

“Who are you?” The tall man frowned with indifference, and paid no account to his kindness.

Xu Zheyi, having seen his frown, suddenly remembered he is that a red star. It’s just that he had flamboyant brown-blonde hair in his photo, and it is now a low-key black.

The GV star was blindsided by his blunt answer to his polite questioning, his face reddened with embarrassment. After taking a bit of time to calm his temper, he replied with a smile, “I am Xiang, and we met before at Naho’s party.”

Ruka let out a nondescript sound, and did not respond any more. He showed no interest in getting along with the other side.

Xiang’s smiling face finally lost its liveliness. The atmosphere in the room is left completely awkward as time dragged on. Finally, someone knocked lightly at the door several times before pushing it open. A young female staffer with a sweet smile walked in.

“If you are ready, please move with me to the studio on the fourth floor.”

Ruka was the first to stand up, and the other three people also began to rise following him.

Xu Zheyi stares at Ruka’s back, secretly praying he would not have to cooperate with this man. Filming a GV itself was already a very unpleasant thing. If he had to partner with someone with such a poor personality, Xu Zheyi really cannot imagine how things would boil down during filming.

It was probably his silence that caused Ah Li to misunderstand. Xu Zheyi felt his shoulder get patted gently; he looked up and saw Ah Li smiling at him kindly.

“Will you be nervous?” Ah Li asked. Xu Zheyi chuckled and was about to answer, when he heard Xiang make a disapproving humming sound.

“Are you going to shoot or join hands? If you’re looking for a quickie please go online to find a better place, it’s less disgusting than being seen here.”

The corridor was not spacious, and Xiang did not suppress his volume, so everyone heard his provocative words. Ah Li’s face was twisted in anger, and even Ruka looked back, but Xu Zheyi paid him no mind.

When ridiculed in the past, he was accustomed to constant paparazzi during filming, which is still a minor case.

He looked down at the sight of Xiang, his tone faint, “Why? Eating a turtle in someone else’s place? Or are those words actually for yourself?1” He went on with his head held high.

This is the best comeback he has ever made, and he must leave the scene before the other side makes a counter, so that the other person will only hate him in his heart.

They crowded into the elevator, and Xu Zheyi pretended to inadvertently sweep a glance; sure enough the other side is still full of anger. He can’t help laughing, and suddenly felt someone staring at him.

He turned his eyes and, unexpectedly, caught sight of Ruka. The two people looked at each other, and then the next second they put their heads aside.
