My name is Celine, I'm in 10th grade. My life isn't complicated but it also isn't simple. I don't think there is much to say about me. One thing I did a lot in my life was watching shows and movies.
"Celine, get down for breakfast right now!" my Aunt yelled.
I rushed down as quickly as possible and looked at Auntie. She was a beautiful lady in her late 30s. I don't think she's beautiful on the inside though.
"Sorry Aunt, I won't be late again" I mumbled.
"..."
She glared at me and said, "Be thankful that someone like you have a roof to live under."
I wasn't great in sports, academically I was average. The words 'someone like you' didn't really hurt me that much.
I quickly rushed to school on my bicycle and ran to my classroom. Luckily, there was still 2 minutes before class started. I sat down on my seat and waited for the teacher to start the class.
\~\~\~
The lunch bell rang and the teacher dismissed the students from class.
I went to the cafeteria to buy a piece of bread for lunch.
"Here you go young lady, are you sure this is enough?" said the lady at the counter.
"Thank you madam, this is more than enough. I don't eat a lot." I responded smiling.
After I finished buying my food, I went to one of the seats in the cafeteria and sat down by myself.
Yes, I don't have friends to sit with.
I'm just not the type to go up to someone and talk with them and I don't think anyone in the school wants to be friends with me.
I was once accused of stealing someone's boyfriend, although I don't ever recall doing that. All the rumors about that stopped but still no one would talk with me or befriend me.
I was bullied by the girl who thought that I stole her boyfriend. She would spread fake rumors about me on the internet and hide my pencil case and textbooks.
It all stopped when one day after school, I walked up to the girl, glared at her and slapped her in the face. She eventually ended up crying and told the teacher. I got suspended for one day and my Aunt got really mad at me and didn't let me eat anything for the whole day.
The lunch bell rang and I went back to my classroom.
\~\~\~
When school finished, I decided to take a stroll around the mall nearby. I needed a new screen protector for my phone and I had to promise Auntie that I would do all the chores for a week to get money for it.
I went inside a technology store and looked for a screen protector for my phone. Next to me there was a group of girls talking happily about something. I look over and saw a T.V. playing an ad. The ad was advertising a new shampoo. Oh? The guy looks familiar but I forgot his name...
I happened to hear what the girls next to me were saying.
"Look, look! It's Nathan, Nathan Miller! He's so handsome!"
"He'll definitely win the award for the best actor of the year!"
"Hey, did you hear about how he's going to be in a movie and there is going to be auditions for it?"
"You're funny, people like us won't ever make it in the audition!"
An audition eh? Whoever said the last line was right, someone like me wouldn't make it in either. If this was a story, I would be one of those side characters who are irrelevant.
"Hey Leah! I-I think I want to tryout for this audition!" A girl suddenly yelled.
I was surprised how someone actually wanted to do something like this. Acting is a very hard job, only suited for the talented ones.
"Hera, you can't talk loud, don't bother" The girl that may be 'Leah' said.
"I-I want to do it...B-but I'm too scared to go by myself..." Hera replied.
Then the girl named 'Leah' looked at her friends and they all shook their heads.
Suddenly I made eye contact with this Leah girl and she smiled.
I turned my head away as quickly as possible and walked to the cashier.
"Hey you! The cute one! You looked interested in our conversation, how about you go with Hera to the audition!" The Leah girl yelled.
I looked around in the shop only to find everyone looking at me...
"A-are you talking about m-me?" I stuttered.
"Yes you, since you eavesdropped on our conversation, make up for it by going to the audition!" Leah shouted.
E-eavesdropping?! Everyone in the shop heard everything you guys said!
I shook my head and said, "Sorry, I'm not suited for these kind of things."
Then I felt something grabbing my arm.
"P-please, I beg you...I-I'll pay for your screen protector..So please!" Hera cried.
I looked at her and tried to pull away, but she held me so tightly and I couldn't move. Just how strong is this girl?
But she said she would pay for my screen protector...I'm not a cheap person or anything but if someone offers this then...
"Fine. I won't pass the audition anyways. I'm just tagging along okay? Tagging along!" I replied.
"T-thank you! Thank you so much!!! By the way, what's your name? My name is Hera, nice to meet you!"
"...Celine, that's my name. Nice to meet you too."
I think I just made the worst decision in my life.
I traded phone numbers with Hera and we talked with each other about shows and movies. The truth is, this is the first time I've talked this much with someone since I was young...
\~\~\~
Before I knew it, today was the day before the audition. I never acted before...What should I do?..
I have binged watched many shows but that's not going to help with my acting. Wait..I can ask Hera!
I dialed her number and waited for her to pick up.
"What's up Celine?"
"Hera...How do you act?"
"Y-you're asking that now?!"
"Hahaha....Sorry..."
"W-well I wouldn't be much of a help when it comes to acting so...I-I'll see you tomorrow do your best!!"
"W-wait WHAT-"
Then she hang up on me.
"I regret this so much...Why am I so stupid." I sighed.
Since I might see Mr. Nathan guy tomorrow at the audition, might as well watch some of his movies.
\~\~\~
And so I spent the whole day watching his movies. I have to say, as a veteran at watching these kinds of things, he is an amazing actor. Mr. Nathan guy expresses his emotions very well.
Imagining myself doing this is a funny joke. AHHH WHAT SHOULD I DO....!
\~\~\~
A Sunday. A day where I'm supposed to sleep in...
The sun shone bright and I got up from my bed feeling tired. Hera said to meet her at the bus stop near the mall.
I tied my hair into braids and decided to wear my uniform for this audition. I have to admit that my uniform is the fanciest of my closet.
Auntie was out partying with her friends so she wasn't home. Well I'm glad she's not. She always tells me to mind my own business. Her husband is 2 years younger than her and she's always cheating on him.
I ate a piece of bread for breakfast and walked to the bus stop.
\~\~\~
I happened to hear a quiet voice saying my name.
"Celine, over here."
It was Hera.
"Hey..why'd you hang up on me yesterday?" I smiled.
She avoided eye contact with me and said
"Ah...Um I wanted to sleep?"
I sighed and I wanted to scream.
"You know what...Let's just go. I'll fail the audition regardless."
Hera smiled, "Thank you for tagging along even though I was a stranger to you."
If I were to describe Hera, she's like a quiet little bunny. She's the innocent and gentle type.
\~\~\~
We arrived at the place for the audition. It was a tall building and the interior was very fancy. There was a sign that stated where to go for the audition.
Hera and I followed the big crowd. I could hear many girls talking about how they can act with Mr. Nathan guy and see him.
I sometimes want to laugh about my nickname for this celebrity.
\~\~\~
When we arrived, we were told to stand in line to wait for our turns.
The line was really long and I can imagine how long it would take for our turn to come.
"Celine, are you nervous?" Hera mumbled.
I looked at her and looked at the floor.
"I don't think so." I replied.
"I feel sick..." said Hera.
I patted her back. "Calm down and breathe, there are still a lot of people before us."
"I'll do my best to hold it in somehow.." She replied.
\~\~\~
After 30 minutes we were finally at the front of the line.
"Next five, please come in." said the guy at the door.
I walked inside the room and Hera was hiding behind me. There was a long table with chairs where the judges sat. In front of the long table, there were five seats.
I sat down on one of the seats and Hera sat next to me. In front of me, I can see the judges. I saw a familiar producer, I believe his name is Matt Kelson. Matt Kelson looks like he's in his late 40s. Mr. Kelson has black hair and he wore a black long sleeved shirt with dark blue jeans.
Next to the producer was the celebrity, Nathan Miller (or Mr. Nathan guy.) Mr. Nathan guy has dark brown hair and brown eyes. He wore a black suit to this audition. I believe he's 20 this year.
Mr. Nathan guy will be playing as the story's protagonist. Since we are still people auditioning for this movie, none of us know the story line for it. I don't know why they didn't release any synopsis for this movie but I'm just going to go along with it.
Finally, the lady next to Mr. Nathan guy is a model named Penny Robertson. There were rumors about how she would be playing as the female lead of the movie, and looks like they were true. Ms. Penny is a beautiful young lady who has just turned 19. She has dark red hair and she's wearing blue contacts and a white dress.
"Okay starting from the left, what's your name?" yelled the producer.
That scared me for a second. I'm sitting three seats from the left, I'm glad I didn't sit at the edges. If you sat first or last, people may judge you differently from the others. Sitting first has a lot of pressure and if you sat last and the people ahead of you were disappointments, the judges may hope for you to be good.
The girl that went first was named Francis. She had to introduce herself and say how old she was. Francis looked like she was in college due to her mature aura. The producer then told her to make a sorrowful expression. Francis did what she was told and she decided to cry as part of the act. Personally, I felt that her crying looked a bit fake.
"Okay, you may go now." said the producer.
"Already?!" Francis shouted.
"Yup, we'll inform you about the results on the website for this movie. Who's next?" asked the producer.
Next was a young man named Lucas. Lucas had blonde hair and green eyes. He was really handsome, I even think that he looks better than Mr. Nathan guy, but you should never judge a book by its cover.
"Hello judges, my name is Lucas Brooks. I'm 17 this year and I'm currently attending Shepard Institute." said Lucas.
"Oh? I see that you look rather handsome. Why don't you go become a model instead?" the producer questioned.
Lucas avoided eye contact with the producer and responded "I'm not very interested in modelling..."
"Okay then, I'm going to ask you to make a distracted expression." said the producer.
It looked as if Lucas thought for a while and then he did what he was told. I have to say that he did fine but it felt as if something was missing.
"Thank you, next please."
Before I knew it, it was my turn. I could now feel a bit of nervousness. The two that went before me were serious while I'm just doing this for Hera.
I felt bad so I thought that I should at least act like I'm serious. But what's a serious expression? I decided to copy what Francis did when she talked about herself.
"Hello there...My name is Celine...Celine Noel." I smiled.
Yup my smile was fake, in fact very fake.
"I go to Swanson's Academy and I'm 15 this year."
"Okay then please make a sorrowful expression." said the producer.
The same one as Francis? I guess I'll just copy her again except I won't cry so it doesn't look like I'm actually copying her.
After I made my sorrowful expression the producer said okay and I left the room. I had to wait for Hera outside the room so I stood near the entrance of the building.
I mean Hera's a pretty girl with black-brown ombre hair. I personally think that this industry is looks > acting. If you're pretty and you can act rather decent, you'll probably make it in. After all in this day and time, people only like an actor's/actress's faces and acting is just a bonus.
I waited for a few minutes and suddenly Hera rushed out of the crowd with tears in her eyes.
???
I was extremely confused.
"H-hey Hera, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Nathan....Nathan Miller told me to get out the moment I said my name and age.." Hera replied.
W-what?! If what Hera says is true...What is that Mr. Nathan guy doing?!
I'm so confused...
"Why?" I asked.
"I-I don't know..."
A worker then ran to us and apologized. The worker said that the company will make up for it.
Make up for it? Does that mean that they'll pass her? I wonder how many spots open there are for this movie.
"Hera, let's go now."
"O-okay..." She responded as she continued crying.
We left the building and went home. Auntie's going to be real mad when I get home.
I was lucky that Auntie wasn't home when I got back from the audition. I wonder what she's doing out so late after the party?
According to the employees, the results were going to be posted on the site next week.
The only thing I'm wishing for is failing the audition. Then again, I doubt I'll make it in.
I still wonder what happened with Hera and Mr. Nathan guy.
*Ring ring*
"Hey, is this Celine?"
It was Auntie, she sounded really mad.
"Yes it's me Aunt, do you need something?" I replied.
"Get changed into something nice and get to 53 Greylands Avenue immediately!" Auntie yelled.
"Y-yes right away!"
Oh god, Auntie's having some really bad mood swings today, it's obvious. Is she perhaps drunk?
She says "something nice" but I practically have nothing that looks nice!
\~\~\~
I untied my braids and brushed my brown hair. Then I put on a random black laced dress and raced down the stairs. I threw on my shoes and immediately ran out the door.
I stood at the bus stop waiting for the next bus. I constantly checked my phone for the time.
The earlier the better, I don't want Auntie to get even more pissed.
As soon as the bus arrived, I got on and waited for my stop.
\~\~\~
When I got off the bus, I could see Auntie waving at me.
"Get over here!" She shouted.
I ran there and saw how Auntie wore very fancy clothes. She wore a bright red dress and a golden necklace. She also had a branded bag and I wasn't really sure how popular it was but I knew it was an expensive bag.
"Okay listen up you brat. I need you to behave properly and make sure you act like a lady, understood? Your uncle just lost his job recently and he decided to runaway to United States!" said Auntie.
"Mhm..." I responded.
What?! Uncle lost his job? Then why was Auntie hanging out with friends?
I always knew Auntie hated me when she decided took me in. Uncle was never home and I only met him once. I didn't think a day like this would come...
"We're going inside this fancy restaurant to meet a family." said Auntie.
"A family?"
"Yes a rich one. Come with me."
\~\~\~
It was a beautiful building. It has been so long since I have last seen a building like this...
A waitress waved at us and guided us to a seat. There sat a man and what I believe is his son who looked rather tall and had blonde hair.
"Celine, be a good girl, you got it?" Auntie whispered.
I nodded my head in response to her question. As we walked closer, I found that the boy looked rather familiar.
Auntie sat down first and I followed her and sat down at the seat next to her. In front of me I saw 2 faces, one unfamiliar and the other one....I just met today.
It was the guy who called himself 'Lucas Brooks.' I wonder if he remembered that this girl sitting in front of him is the same girl who sat next to him during the audition.
Actually I hope he doesn't remember.
"Hello there, my name is Kristina Noel. Nice to meet you." Auntie smiled and stretched out her hand for a handshake.
Ouch, her fake smile looks so scary!
"Nice to meet you too Mrs. Noel. I'm Robert Brooks." He smiled back.
The two shook hands while I awkwardly looked around me. I mean if I looked at the centre of my view, I'd see a handsome face staring at me.
"So Mrs. Noel, this is my son Lucas. He's 17 this year. Lucas can be a bit quiet but he's easy to get along with." Mr. Brooks introduced.
"Ah no, it's fine." Auntie laughed.
That laugh sounded like those mean girl laughs from dramas.
"This is my niece Celine and she's 15. Celine is a nice girl and she's quiet too." She smiled.
How many lies will she say by the end of this?! To begin with, what is this meeting?? I want to get out of here as soon as possible!
"Hahaha, looks like these two could be fated." Laughed Mr. Brooks.
Fated?! What are you talking about? D-don't tell me...
This is a marriage interview?!
I glared at Auntie and she was still smiling. She then tapped my shoulder and whispered,
"I don't care what you're going to say but I raised you for 6 years so it's about time you pay me back."
I swear I want to slap her right now but I have no right to do so.
\~\~\~
The waitress placed food on the table and we started eating. I had no appetite and only ate a bit.
Mr. Brooks and Auntie talked with each other for a long time while the guy in front of me sat still.
"Lucas, say something to your future fiancé." said his father.
"..."
"You too, Celine." Auntie smiled.
I didn't know what to say so I sat there silently.
Auntie then elbowed me in the stomach and I made a tiny noise and it looked like Lucas heard and saw it.
I stood up from my seat and said,
"Sorry, I'd like to take a trip to the washroom. Please excuse me."
It hurts so much! What was my stupid Aunt thinking?! If she does that again, I might actually slap her!
"Me too."
???
It was Lucas who said that, but why?
I headed towards the washrooms and I turned around.
Lucas was following me.
"The male toilets aren't this way." I glared.
"I know, I need to ask you something." He replied.
"What do you need?" I asked.
"Let's break off this so-called marriage arrangement before it even starts." He smiled.
Wow an actor's smile...
