In ancient times demons were feared by the humans for their destructive ways. Being violent, killing humans and eating them for fun or sport. However now humans are no longer afraid instead they hunt for demons, so that they can use their power. They are killed, sold for number of reasons, and are now in fear; kind of ironic how the tables have turned. In the recent years, a priest had discovered a new way to protect and even defeat demons. It was proven to be super effective, and later was known worldwide. These items varied in so many ways and were soon sold just like any weapon.
Hearing word of this, the royals of the demon realm are trying to find the best way to deal with this. Their best solution was to ban all travel to the human world, until a better solution presented itself. Casus, son to the President of the household and council, heard of these events taking place. So, he then planned to rule the human world so that demons would not have to fear any longer, and how would he rule? By building the greatest demon army, and they would once again be feared as the dangerous, bloodthirsty monsters that they are.
Chapter 1
Casus sat at a table in the library studying the different types of demons, and how their powers worked. Isaac, whom was by his side since he could remember was his loyal butler, walked up and set down a cup of tea.
“My Lord, here is your tea, and your father would like to see you as soon as possible in the office.”
“Thank you, Isaac, and would you mind helping me find this book?”
“Certainly, my Lord, but may I ask why it is that you are reading books about demons that are of lower status than yourself?”
While finishing the book, he was currently reading, Casus took a sip of his tea. Isaac found the book in a matter of seconds and came back to his side handing the book to Casus. Just as soon as Casus finished the book he looked up, smiled and said.
“Isaac, to start an army filled with demons, you must know what they are capable of and where they would work best to fight.”
“I see, my apologies for not realizing sooner my Lord.”
“Quite alright Isaac just be sure to further educate yourself on war tactics for the future. You are dismissed now Isaac; I will report to my father’s study and then retire back to my room. When I return, I want to see these books on the nightstand with something to drink.”
“Yes, my Lord.”
Isaac gave a bow, as Casus walked out of the doors, and down to his father’s study.
After approaching the door, and giving a knock, the door opened. The room was dark but had a lamp that illuminated a red light in the corner. His father sits at his desk filing paperwork of some kind, he doesn’t once look up from his work. Casus walks in and takes the seat that sits in front of the desk, he then waits patiently for his father to finish what he is doing and discuss the matter he has called him down there for.
“Son, I called you down here to discuss the topic of marriage.”
“Which part of it would you like to discuss father?”
“Casus, you are going to marry Clarice Adams. She is a noble demon of a neighboring household, she will be good for you. She is very proper, beautiful, rich, and has a well-known name that will help you succeed later in life.”
“Yes father, it sounds like a marvelous idea. I’m sure this will be prosperous in providing a stronger ally.”
“Precisely what I thought, you are learning well my son. Then you will meet with her in two days, that is all you are dismissed.”
“Thank you, father.”
Casus then got up and exited the room with the door closing behind him. He then returned to his room, where Isaac stands awaiting his orders. Casus starts to tell him about what his father wanted to talk about.
“Isaac, what do you think of this whole arranged marriage?”
“Honestly, I do not know, my Lord. Because we have yet to meet her and know what kind of person she is.”
“You’re right, well I’ll meet with her and if she agrees, I’ll marry her.”
Ending with that statement Casus dismissed Isaac, and began his preparations for bed of reading every book that was brought in.
The day that Clarice comes with her parents to meet with Casus and his father had at last arrived. The whole house staff had spiraled into a frenzy to make sure that the whole manor is ready and clean to hold the meeting. Personal servants helped Casus to make sure that he looked his best, and after Isaac showed them out, Casus sneaked off to the library for more studying.
There’s a knock at the door, a servant then notified Casus’s father, and he gave the order to let them in and show them to the lounge area where he’ll meet them. Meanwhile the other servants don’t even bother to try and find Casus, so they send for Isaac to find Casus to tell him it’s time for the meeting. In the library sits Casus reading a new book on war tactics, and Isaac in no time finds him.
“My Lord, they have arrived, the meeting will be in the lounge.”
“Thank you, Isaac, I will be down in a minute.”
“I am sorry my Lord, but Lord Blackwell is already down there waiting on you. You need to go now.”
Casus lets out a sigh and then silently gets up and heads for the lounge. Upon his arrival, he sees that Isaac had tricked him, for his father was not there yet. Not showing that he is annoyed, Casus puts on the most charming smile that was ever possible. He took the seat opposite facing what he assumed to be Clarice, and only after a few more moments of awkward silence, his father appeared. After entering the room Lord Blackwell politely shakes Mr. Adams hand and gives a light charming kiss on Mrs. Adams hand, while he greeted them.
“Ah, it is marvelous that you could come and discuss this matter in person!”
“It was no trouble at all, our daughter is very pleased at the idea of having your son as a husband.”
Mr. Adams voice boomed back in delight.
“That is very good to hear, now let me introduce my son, Casus.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you Casus, this is our daughter, Clarice.”
After her mother cheerfully introduced her Clarice gets up and does a courtesy that was so delicate and graceful, it seemed like a ballerina doing a plie. She seemed shy, and blushed when she meets eyes with Casus. Casus gave a bow back to her, being sure to give her that charming, devilish smile that is sure to make her swoon even more.
“It is a pleasure to meet such a beautiful demon such as yourself, Miss Clarice.”
Turning into a shade of red that shames even a tomato, Clarice replies in a hush tone. “Y-yes, the pleasure is all mine, Sir Casus.”
“Oh, Clarice is that all you can say? You’ve been excited for this day ever since we showed you his picture.”
“Mother! That is not true sir, I mean w-well I um. That is. I’m sorry.”
Clarice calmly got up, excused herself, and walked away in a rushed manner towards the back garden.
“Oh dear, I’m terribly sorry about this. I’ll go get her right away.”
“No no, allow me to go and talk to her. It will give us some bonding time and I can get to know her better.”
“Oh, I can’t let you do that. Besides this is a job for her moth-"
“Miss, if I am to marry your daughter I need time alone with her to get to know her better. You don’t want to be the reason the marriage does not happen, do you?”
“W-well I. Of course, not! *Sigh* Very well, go ahead.”
“Thank you, ma’am, now if you all will excuse me.”
Casus gave a bow and exited the room heading for the garden.
“After making it out to the garden he noticed a faint whimper in the maze of roses, rounding his way to the sound he found Clarice sitting on the ground surrounded by roses, some that were light shades of red and others that of a deep bloody red. She raised her head to find him standing in front of her with an outstretched hand, but instead of taking the hand she turned her head in embarrassment.
“You must think I’m too weak to be your wife, you’re probably looking for someone who can fight.”
“My dear what makes you think such a thing?”
“The book you had in your hand when you entered the room, it was about war tactics.”
“That is true, I plan on starting an army.”
“See I cannot fight, I would only get in the way! I’m sorry, Sir Casus.”
“Call me Casus, it would be weird if my wife were to call me sir all the time.”
“B-but I just said that I would not be right for you! How could you still say you want me to be your wife?!”
“Because, my dear, I do not want to marry a soldier. I want a wife whom is beautiful and will be at home ready to greet me after a fight. Besides you are quite intelligent, so I say that you are perfect to become my wife.”
Clarice starts to tear up and takes Casus’ hand, stands up nearly falling back down in the process Casus catches her in his arms. She is all smiles now, and Casus had to practically pry her off him to get her to leave his embrace. He then picks a rose and hands it to her.
“Do you know why these roses are blood red?”
“I heard that, it was because once there was a nightingale that cared very deeply for a loved one that she gave up her life to make a red rose so that he could give it to another girl. And so, when the blood spilled, it made a rose so red it looked like blood.”
“My dear, you are very correct. Only when one spills blood onto the rose bush do we only then get a rose as red and beautiful as this.”
They then walked around the garden for a while and made their way back to the doors; where they stood, and talked, until Isaac showed up at the door.
“My Lord, you and Miss Clarice are to come back to the lounge to discuss the final verdict of the marriage.”
“Thank you, Isaac. Well, shall we go and tell them to start planning for the wedding?”
Clarice blushed and put her hands on her cheeks while she gave a nod. Walking back hand in hand, they found their parents having tea and discussing something that had to do with the demon council.
“Father, you all may start planning the wedding.”
“Excellent, this is great! My dear friends, we will meet again to discuss the wedding in further detail. Until then it has been a pleasure to have you here, to unite our houses.”
“Likewise, my wife and I are the happiest parents in the world, to be able to have such a great gentleman to be our son in-law!”
“That is right; Now, come along Clarice, there is much to be done now.”
“Yes mother, I’m coming. Until next time, my love.”
And with that, Clarice gave Casus and quick peck on the cheek, and he gave her the charming smile, which caused her to blush even more than she already was. They all left, agreeing that the next time they meet will be in a month, to discuss the details for the wedding. After they left, Casus returned to the library to continue studying. His father returned to his study, to type up the paperwork for the marriage arrangement. That night Clarice was giddy and happy, the maids had trouble keeping her still long enough to get her ready for bed.
“Miss, can you please stand still?”
“Oh? I’m so sorry! I just cannot help it, he is just the best!”
“Miss, are you sure that this marriage is the right thing? I mean, do you really think that he is the one?”
“Of course! He is everything I could have asked for!”
“How so miss?”
“Well, he is kind, like when he came after me and cheered me up. He’s handsome, he has these crimson red eyes, midnight black hair cut short, he has muscles that I know can protect me but not to the point where they are too big, the perfect height not too tall but not short either he comes a head above me, and his horns are marvelous! They’re on his forehead, you can’t really notice them and yet, you can, you know what I mean? He’s smart, tactical, and powerful, plus he likes me just the way I am.”
“I see miss, I am terribly sorry for doubting you.”
“It is quite alright, you were just worried about me and for that I thank you.”
5 months had passed since the agreement, and there is now less than three days until the wedding. Clarice writes Casus letters since she was not allowed to see him until the day of the wedding, she sent so many that Casus only responds back to the third one.
“Another letter from lady Clarice, my Lord.”
“Put it with the others Isaac.”
“My Lord, are you sure you want to go through with this marriage? She seems kind of clingy, don’t you think?”
“Not at all Isaac. She is clingy yes, but she has a high-class status which is essential for me to come to power soon. She is smart and beautiful, very good for my image.”
“I’m just not sure I like her my Lord.”
“You do not have to like her Isaac, you just have to respect her as a royal.”
“Alright my Lord, but I just have a bad feeling about this whole relationship.”
“Your opinion is noted Isaac, now to bring on the business I have for you another job.”
“Who is it this time, my Lord?”
“As an assassin, I need you to go and kill this demon that has been spouting nonsense and untrue statements of my plan for power.”
In that moment, Isaac’s form went from a formal respectable butler, to his true nature as a sneaky mysterious dark assassin. Almost like two different demons that live in one vessel, his attitude and posture both changed in a blink of an eye.
“So how do you want me to kill them this time, princess?”
“In a way that will leave a message that anyone who defies me won’t see another day.”
“Sounds like fun. See ya, I might be back depending on my mood.”
“And Isaac please do bring back some blood for the roses this spring.”
“Will do. Cya princess”
And with that Isaac disappears out the window into the dead of night, giving a quick wave and what Casus can only guess to be a cheeky smile under his mask.
“He has got to be less obnoxious when in that form of his, or else he is going to end up dead.”
Casus says this as he chuckles to himself and continues to do his research. Ignoring the letters that sit stacked on his desk that look like they were written with much love and care.
It is now the day of the wedding, and the house has been buzzing since yesterday. The servants have been working nonstop in getting the house wedding ready, and the garden set up for the ceremony. Just when everything seemed in order there was one thing missing, the groom was nowhere to be found within the whole estate. Search parties were sent out by order of his father, when at the last possible second before the wedding. Through the front door, he comes walking in with Isaac, both dirty and covered in blood.
“Casus! Where the hell have you been?! Look at you, you’re covered in blood and dirt seconds before your wedding!”
“Father, it is not my blood and I am aware of close we were cutting it. That is why instead of lecturing me of punctuality, we should be working on getting me ready for my wedding.”
“Then who the hells blood is that?! After you answer me that you get your *** ready like your life depends on it, because it does!”
“A neighboring house that did not want this allegiance marriage to take place and therefor attacked me while I was out for a walk.”
And so as instructed Casus then excused himself and was rushed up to be groomed and changed for the wedding, with Isaac close behind. His father then turned to a servant demanding two things.
“I want tight security for the rest of the day! Release the Cerberus, and any other guards that there is! And the wedding to go off without a hit!”
“Yes of course sir!”
The servant then proceeded to spread the word to set up the defense system and to release the Cerberus. Meanwhile, Casus is being rushed through all the different stages of servants prepping him for his own wedding. In a flash, they got him bathed, groomed, and dressed, with his hair slicked back best smelling cologne and finest black suit; he rushed down to the altar just before Clarice started to walk out. Casus straightened himself and gave that award-winning smile for Clarice as she started to walk down the aisle. With her father’s arm linked with hers, and a big bouquet of flowers in the other, she walked with grace and beauty. Her wedding dress fit her body just right, white with touches of red in the back and on her veil. Her hair was curled and put up in a flawless way, her makeup was subtle with red lips. Once she reached the alter, Casus gave a bow in respect to her father and then held out his hand. Her father gave an approving nod and handed her over to him. As Casus’s father performed the wedding ceremony Casus whispered over to Clarice.
“You outshine even the most radiant diamond today, my dear.”
“Oh Casus, thank you. Everything looks perfect, I couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous place to have the wedding.”
“Indeed, my dear, I put in a special order to have these roses look like this just for you.”
Smiling and blushing so much, Clarice wasn’t paying attention to what was being said.
“Clarice, do you take Casus as your loving husband? Clarice?”
“What? Oh um, y-yes! I do!”
“And Casus do you take Clarice as loving wife?”
“I do.”
“Then by the power vested in me I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride.”
Casus pulled back he veil gently, cupped his hand on Clarice’s cheek and kissed her. Clarice with her eyes closed blushed a deep red as she received her first kiss from her new husband, whom she will spend the rest of her life loving and doing anything for him. After the wedding ceremony was over there was what felt like a sigh of relief that cover the air of not just the servants, but the royals that were on the side of this arrangement. The day turned into night as the royals had an enjoyable time drinking the night away in celebration, Clarice waited in Casus’s bed chamber heart racing for what everyone told her was the honeymoon night. Although she was told Casus is in the middle of something and it will be awhile before his arrival, she didn’t care because it gave her more time to prepare herself. Casus was taking a walk out in the court yard while reading a book about weapons. Suddenly there was a loud commotion coming from the edge of the property line, it sounded like Cerberus had encountered an intruder. Casus curious as to what Cerberus was attacking, went to investigate and maybe praise Cerberus for a good deed. However, when he called Cerberus off and to sit like a good boy, what had been serving as a chew toy was a demon of a much lower rank. A female, she was a lilith, and she was seriously injured. Her beauty must have captivated Casus otherwise he would not have helped her, but there was something about her outstretched hand and plead for help that struck his cold heart.
