It's Sunday the 3rt of March 2030, I just got home from a court, from a case that had been on going for the last two months. I have to say, that it was a battle will fight and the world is now a safe place because an other criminal was behind bars.
Now I can finally focus on my own private case. I called 'Ace,' "any word about THAT as yet?" I asks, looking through the refrigerator for something to eat and a drink. "no, HE hasn't contacted me yet." 'Ace' replied. "That's not like HIM it's been two weeks already." I said, making my way through the kitchen to the living room. "Should I send someone to go in after HIM?" 'Ace' asked sounding a bit tired.
"Ahhh!.....send in THAT ONE." I replied now seated on the couch, passing my right hand through my hair. "Are you sure?" he ask, " those two don't seem to get along to will." he continued. "That's way HE will be perfect. To know one's rival is to know oneself." I answered with a smirk on my face. "Ok say no more." 'Ace' replied and hung up the phone.
I just sat there in the darkening room, with my head tilted backwards and my right arm over my eyes. I hope that idiot didn't get himself caught, I thought to myself. When I awoke the room was pitch black, I did not know when I fell asleep. Ah! best go take a shower and head to bed, I thought to myself.
In the shower my mind began raising ideas for how to move next if 'Knight' have really been caught. As I was lost in thought, the water played itself down my body and notice every inch of it.
It began at the crown of my head, dripping down my ash blonde hair, to my heart shaped face, to the bass of my rich but not bulky neck, to find itself going down my broad shoulders and sturdy arms, to make it's way down rocky ads and finally make it's exit down my muscular legs.
I was in the shower for about twenty minutes when my phone began to ring. I made my way out, "hello!" I answered with a deep tired voice. A small voice that sounded like it was about to cry, came over the phone. "Hello, is this Mr. Greenman, of Injustices Law Firm?" A little puzzled, "yes, this is he," I said. "Ah! my name is Mia Masterson my dad is being charged with murder and I...." she said that in one breath and started to cry.
I said nothing for a while, I just let her cry. "Mis. do you know where my office is, come there tomorrow and we'll talk." Still crying "thank you," she said. "Try to get some sleep," I said sympathetically and hung up the phone.
Hi guys Rosielove here hope you all like and comment. 😘
The next morning, as I was pulling into the driveway of my office building, I notice a young woman standing at the front of the building entrance. I parked the car and was locking it, when I saw Ms. Pat my secretary was opening up and welcoming the young woman in.
My law firm is not big, it has a total of 25 employees these employees are divided into five teams, the teams consists of a lawyer, two detectives, a secretary and an assistant.
I am head of the organization and I only do the most difficult of cases, this gives me enough time to focus on my own personal matters. I walked into ms. Pat office which is in front of mine's, to be greeted with a sadden smile and toun "good morning sir" I looked at her "you said it but you don't mean it, are you not happy to see me?" I said mischievously trying to lift her her sprite, "what got my oh so ever happy friend looking like the world is about to end?"
Before she could open her mouth I knew was had happened. "There is a young lady here to see you......"
she looked like she was having a hard time stopping herself from crying. "She's just.." I cut her off " I know she called me last night." she looked at me confused "how does she have you number?" A good question for not many people have my number. "I have no idea, but I will be should to find out." I looked at my office door, "get her something to eat also." "I'm already on that." she was a bit smug about it.
"Good morning miss. Masterson." I said it out of manners and to let her know I was there. She looked down hearted, like a child who's pet had just died, "good morning," her voice was smaller than yesterday's. "did you get some sleep?" I was now sitting across from her at my desk. Her eyes were cast back downwards like a little girl how could not lie.
At that time there was a knock at the door, it was ms Pat with our breakfast, "thanks" I said as she laid it out. "You should eat to keep your strength up." She had a faint smile as she spoke to miss. Masterson. miss. Masterson nodded and began to eat.
I looked at ms. Pat as she left the room looking satisfied like only a mother can. She is the mother of two daughters one is a detective at the firm and the other is a doctor. She is fifty-seven years old and has been married for the last twenty something years, she is a motherly figure to all of us within the organization.
Her husband is just like her, always ready to adopt someone. He is retired police commissioner and he now runs a selfdefense class, I had made all the employees go to his classes, this line of work is not easy after all. Hunn, but I do often wonder what their reaction will be if they know about my other work, they most likely will be mad and disappointed.
I came to my senses and found that miss Masterson had finished eating and was looking at me. She looked at me with empty eyes, as if her world had stopped and she was merely existing. I cleaned my thoughts and because focus on my work.
"So how exactly can I help you?" I ask to bring her back to reality. She took a minute to speak as if she was gathering herself, "as I was saying yesterday, my father is being charged with murder." she was still looking at me with her golden eyes, it was like fine gold to bad it did not shine as it should.
"And you believe he didn't do it." I said knowing that this poor girl was in for a hard time. I already have Rick on the case and it doesn't look good for her father.
"Of course not." she raised her voice for the first time, "my father is to timid to even kill an ant much less a man." She looked determined for me to believe her, " he is being set up." she was a little calmer. I looked at her and smiled slightly maybe she is stronger than I thought.
"Tell me your story, make me believe you." I said it intending to challenge her to show me just how much she wanted me to take this case. Her eyes never left mine, she was up for the challenge, she knew what she wanted.
"My father is a delivery driver for the company S&H." she said, with a confidence that I don't know where it came from. "a week ago he came home looking out of it. I asked if something was wrong but all he said is that he will like me to go and spend some time with me friend in the next town because he had a long trip and he did not want to leave me alone."
she was still looking at me in the eyes as to see if I was fineing any doubt in her story. "I tried to protest because I had now turned twenty and I believe that I was old enough to stay by myself, but he got unusual mad and said I'm to do as he said no question asked."
At this time I could see that she was blaming herself for not being able to protect her family. "I did as he said four days later I saw on the news that he was arrest and being charged with murder." The anger that was coming from her was the same kind I had when my parents were murdered.
"They was saying that most likely he and the man got into a fight and he ended up killing the man." She was starting to raise her voice again, but before she could continue or I could intervene the phone began to ring.
"Hello " I sounded a bit upset, maybe I was standing yo feed off her anger. "Jin," it was Rick "I can't talk right now, may I call you back?" From my tone of voice alone he know I was not alone. "Is miss. Masterson with you now?" I got curious about what he had to say. "Yes." I was walking over to the big glass window on the left side of the office.
When he said something I did want to hear.
