Edge Of Darkness

The bad hair day

Some days back, a crew of sailors surrounded by the angry waves of mighty ocean with a broken mast and a wounded deck watching sharks on feeding frenzy feasting on the flesh of fallen crewmen with terror in their eyes. The time and location were out of sync and supplies were exhausting along with the answering courage of the crew, still finding a way out to hold back their soul on that doomsday.

The crew had given up but not the captain. He couldn’t give up, his mind still wanted to save the dear life of his ship and its sailors but all his strength and courage were succumbed under the weight of his responsibilities. He summoned all his will and, “ sailors!”, he cried.

“There is nothing to worry about, this is just another trial being taken by the almighty, nothing can harm us if he wants. Always remember, a coward dies many times before a painful death but a brave dies once and that too with pride. I can understand the situation of ourselves but remember this, you will not lose until you give up.”

“Who wants to die, none but everyone dies. Death is inevitable although one can survive.”

“ then what should we do now.”

“Take out all the ropes and harpoons we have left, we will reach these marine worms a lesson.”

He told his crew what to do next. “it will take us all to wipe our these malicious persistent bastards who killed our brothers”

All the sailors with a new hope and burning anger started to play with the ropes, some of the sailors were tied to the deck and some of them were tied to the remaining part of broken masts with another rope tied around their waist whose other end was used to secure the sailors who wielded harpoon.

When this was all set then with a loud battle cry the arrowheads glided through the air on that rainy night and penetrated their target like cats hunting its prey. These chain of events lead the sharks to bleed and their blood infuriated them and there cannibalistic nature showed their colour, they started attacking each other and soon none of them was in sight, a few that escaped must have been hunted by their bigger species. The crew cried with joy but soon the fear of storm in the middle of a vast ocean grabbed their throat again. Their misery had not came to an end yet. Captain saw an island in a split second under the brightness of thunder with the aid of his telescope and cried, “sailors get ready to be anchored.”

It was almost impossible to get near the rocky island with a large wrecked vessel under such weather condition but when the sky cleared with the arrival of the dusk, captain found a perfect place for the vessel. After the ship got anchored in a place the crew cried with joy on their victory over their fate. The experience of the past nightmare was still flowing in their veins.

The eccentric island

No one knew that the thunderstorm of the passed night would change their fate for ever. When they anchored the ship, the crew set foot on the island. The captain kissed the beach as if it was the most beautiful place he had ever visited, took a deep breath and although it was the smell of salt and wet sand, he felt as if he was in the middle of a meadow with the most delicate flowers. In a blitz, he remembered about his crew and ran to their aid. His responsiblities were not about to end yet. He lent his hands to his crew for their medication. When these chorus were ended, the sun was almost above their heads. They gathered the supplies that had been drifted to the shore and some of the crewmen those were in good condition explored the nearby places to find some more food and water and a perfect spot to rest.

The captain moved aside for searching a spot too l and was alone. He possessed brown curious eyes and long black hairs tied in a pony tail that reached his soldiers, a brown sleeveless coat and a white full sleeved shirt that was wet and muddy and almost transparent which showed his well built arms , a black silhouette and a black full boot. He was still handsome although nearing forties and wore a scar across his left eye that looked more like an old scratch form a wild beast. Rumors were that he had once strangled a wild bear bare handed when he was still young and this scratch was a gift and a proof of his fight. He always said, "scars are ornaments and wounds are pride of a warrior"

He was roaming around the beach when suddenly, he felt something eerie about his surrounding and drew his special sword with a golden handle which was shaped like a dragon. He never let anyone touch his sword even in a dire situarion. He started his search again. Soon, he found many coconut trees and for bonus coconut crabs. Soon he returned to the same place with his crew, the ship was still visible from this place. They set their camp near the coconut trees. They made their shelters and had brunch together.

After sometime, captain away from his crew was staring at the red sky lying on a rock. He was wondering that he had never seen this species of coconut crabs although he had visited countless countries and Islands, he had also heard weird footsteps behind him, ithe seemed someone was limping but when he looked back there was no one and that is why he drew his sword out at that time. Not only this, even when he had spotted this island then too...

His thoughts were interpreted by a hoarse voice. Matt Hamster, who was also from the crew was shouting his name with a burning torch in his one hand and a dagger in another. It was dark. "Dark!", captain wondered. The clear red shy was cloudy now. He waved his hand but it seemed of no use in the dark. When he tried to shout, he felt like a lump in his throat and could not even speak. Soon, Matt dissolved in the darkness, his surrounding was as silent as graveyard, as dark as ink.

The radical fender-bender

Meanwhile, at some other place, a young boy of 17 years ran out of the old mansion. He looked at the mansion and felt like something had changed. It seemed that the mansion was itself in a deep sorrow or it feels like this when one is at his worst. With a blurred vision, he saw his father's car ready for a drive with him. With trembling hands he ignited the engine and held the steering wheel of that car, with a soft humming sound the car came to life and he sped away. He felt like 9.3 miles as if became 930 miles, as if god was rude to him, as if he could see his doom in front of him but could not back off.

After sometime, a car hit the barricade of a high class road of Melbourne city. A cop nearby sprinted to the rescue of that unfortunate driver but most unfortunately it was a boy.

"Hey you! , are you racing with your friends?"

The cop saw the airbags of the car had saved his life and he was not even scratched but even then the boy was crying bitterly. Cop thought he his crying for mercy but could not sense the grief inside of the boy's heart.

"S..sir P..please let m..me g..go. My p..parent..."

"Shut the f**k up little one. No one hears a word of a convict here. Never try to even think of bribing me."

"Come with me, to the P.D. right now"

The boy was fumbling and pleading but the cop did not paid any heed.

"right now, I said"

Cop roared and grabbed the boy by his  arm and pulled him out of the car. Next moment Michael was at the police department with his father's confiscated chromium black Bentley.

Michael could feel a surge of anger inside of him by this time. He was really really made at the officer. He asked the cop permission for a phone call and he agreed. Michael hastily called his family lawyer who came quickly and bailed him. He ran out of the police department and saw a hospital just in front of him. Michael dashed towards the hospital across the highway while gaining narrow escapes from the lightning speed vechiles and soon reached the entrance of the hospital. He felt a lump in his throat and was breathing heavily, his mouth was dry and eyes brimming with tears.

Michael felt like he would faint at any moment from now, his body was collapsing under the weight of his heavy grief. He rushed towards the clerical staff at the counter and blurted something out but stopped soon as he saw the lady's expression at he counter.

He controlled himself and with much difficulty said, "two patients...major accident...sometime".

The lady waited for sometime after listening to him, as if trying to decipher the language of an insane ape. Her fingers started playing with the keys of keyboard. Michael waited for sometime then the lady said, " 7th floor, critical condition, emergency ward, move a little forward then turn left in the corridor and you will f..."

" thank you", Michael intervened in the middle and ran before she could finish her sentence.
