The Mafia’S Unexpected Fall

The Beginning of Trouble

The sound of Evelyn Carter’s heels clicking against the marble floor echoed through the massive college hallway. She wasn’t one to be intimidated, but walking into a new school—one filled with arrogant rich kids—was never her idea of fun.

One year. Just one year, and I’m out of here.

She tightened her grip on her bag and adjusted her blazer. As the CEO of Carter Enterprises, she had fought her way to the top. At just 19, she had built an empire. But here, none of that mattered.

To them, she was just the new girl.

And if there was one thing she hated more than attention… it was unwanted attention.

She made her way to the administration office, handing over her documents. The lady at the desk barely glanced at her before waving her off. "Your class is down the hall. Room 304."

Evelyn sighed. Great. Time to meet the spoiled brats.

As she turned, she didn’t notice the figure walking straight toward her.

Until it was too late.

A strong force collided with her, sending her slightly off balance. But before she could react, a firm hand caught her waist, steadying her.

The scent of expensive cologne and trouble filled the air.

"Careful there, princess."

Evelyn’s head snapped up, meeting the gaze of the last person she needed to cross paths with.

Adrian Knight.

The name was enough to send chills through anyone who had heard of him.

Rich. Powerful. Dangerous.

The heir to Knight Industries and, if the rumors were true, the next Mafia king.

He smirked, dark eyes filled with amusement as he studied her. "You must be new."

Evelyn jerked out of his grip, fixing her blazer. "And you must be annoying."

Lucas Hayes, who had been standing beside Adrian, let out a low whistle. "Damn. She’s got a sharp tongue."

Adrian’s smirk didn’t falter. In fact, it grew.

Interesting.

Most girls melted under his gaze. But this one? She didn’t even flinch.

Evelyn rolled her eyes and moved past him.

But before she could disappear down the hall, Adrian called out—

"I’ll see you around, princess."

She didn’t turn back.

But if she had, she would’ve seen the Dangerous glint in his eyes.

for the first time in a long time…

Adrian Knight was intrigued.

And that?

That was the beginning of trouble.

A Game of Power Begins

Evelyn adjusted the strap of her bag as she stepped into the grand lecture hall. She wasn’t new to luxurious settings—after all, she was a CEO. But there was something about college that made her feel... different. Maybe it was the way people ****whispered**** when she passed by, their eyes filled with curiosity, admiration, and maybe even jealousy.

She ignored them. She was here to study, not to make friends.

Sliding into an empty seat near the window, she pulled out her notebook. Just as she flipped it open, a presence made the air shift. A tall figure slid into the seat beside her—Adrian West.

Evelyn didn’t need to look to know who it was. His cologne, an intoxicating mix of expensive whiskey and danger, filled the air.

“Didn’t expect to see you sitting alone,” Adrian mused, resting his arm on the back of her chair like he owned the space.

She raised an eyebrow but didn’t turn to face him. “And why would that be?”

A smirk tugged at his lips. “Because people like you—rich, successful, beautiful—tend to attract attention.”

Evelyn finally looked at him. “Yet, here you are, proving your own point.”

For the first time in his life, first time in his life, Adrian found himself at a loss for words. He was used to people being intimidated by him, not challenging him.

Before he could respond, the professor walked in, calling the class to attention.

But Adrian? He wasn’t paying attention. His eyes were still on her.

After Class

Evelyn gathered her books quickly, hoping to escape before Adrian could corner her again. But fate had other plans. The moment she stepped out, she was greeted by a familiar voice.

“Leaving so soon, CEO?”

She sighed, turning to face him. “I have a company to run, West.”

He chuckled, stepping closer. “So do I. But look at us, playing students.”

Evelyn crossed her arms. “Playing? I actually plan to graduate.”

Adrian tilted his head. “And you think I don’t?”

“You don’t seem like the type who follows the rules.”

His smirk deepened. “Maybe I like to make my own.”

Evelyn’s lips twitched. “Then good luck keeping up with me.”

She turned to leave, but his voice stopped her once more.

“Careful, Evelyn. You might find that I don't lose."

She didn’t turn around, but she could feel his gaze burning into her back as she walked away.

Adrian watched her go, and for the first time, he realized something—this wasn’t just fun anymore.

It was a challenge.

And Adrian never walked away from a challenge.

The Game just got personal

Evelyn had dealt with powerful men before. She had faced ruthless businessmen in boardrooms, men who underestimated her simply because she was young and a woman. But Adrian West? He was a different kind of problem.

She could still feel the weight of his gaze from earlier, the way his words carried a challenge. But Evelyn wasn’t interested in games—especially not with him.

At least, that’s what she kept telling herself.

Later That Evening – A Chance Encounter

Evelyn had barely stepped into the café near campus when she heard a familiar voice.

"Twice in one day, CEO. I’m starting to think you’re following me."

She sighed before turning. Adrian. Of course. He was leaning against the counter, a coffee cup in hand, looking completely at ease.

"Relax, West," she replied, stepping forward to place her order. "The world doesn’t revolve around you."

He smirked, watching as she tapped her card for payment. "You wound me, sweetheart."

Evelyn rolled her eyes. "Do people actually fall for that act?"

He grinned. "More than you’d think. But you? No. You’re different."

She exhaled, grabbing her drink. "And that bothers you, doesn’t it?"

Adrian took a step closer, his voice dropping slightly. "It intrigues me."

Their eyes met, and for the briefest second, the world around them faded. Evelyn felt an unfamiliar warmth in her chest, something dangerously close to attraction.

She was supposed to avoid men like him. Men who played mind games. Men who didn’t take no for an answer.

So why did she feel like she was the one getting pulled in?

Breaking the moment, Evelyn turned away. "Try not to get too intrigued, West. It won’t end well for you."

She walked out, leaving Adrian standing there, smirking to himself.

He liked this game.

And for the first time in a long time, he wasn’t sure if he was the one in control.

Later That Night – Adrian’s Thoughts

Adrian sat in his penthouse, a glass of whiskey in hand, staring at the city skyline. His mind, however, was nowhere near business.

Evelyn.

She wasn’t like the women who threw themselves at him. She didn’t fear him, but she wasn’t naive either. She played by her own rules.

And that? That was dangerous.

Because the more she pulled away, the more he wanted to chase.

His phone buzzed.

Unknown Number: Careful, Adrian. You’re getting distracted.

His jaw tightened. He had a lot of enemies. People who wanted him to fail, to fall.

But the real question was… was Evelyn one of them?

Author’s Note

"That’s it for Chapter 3! The tension is getting real, and we all know Adrian isn’t the type to just let things go. What do you think—who’s playing who here?

The romance, the danger, and the stakes are only getting higher, so keep your eyes locked on this game of power. 😉

Wishing you all a night full of plot twists and exciting surprises!
