“It's a girl!” The nurse jubilantly proclaimed to the father, cradling a squealing, delicate newborn in her arms.
Temujin Dolgoon, the proud father of the lovely newborn girl, was moved to tears, his heart brimming with joy as he held his baby girl in his firm, confident hands. However, his elation was momentarily disrupted by the revelation of another baby on the way. The doctor diligently worked to assist the mother in delivering the subsequent baby, only to discover a third one coming after the first two. With unwavering determination, the doctor and her team of nurses encouraged the mother to stay resilient so she could safely bring the last baby into the world. Eventually, the third baby arrived, once again a girl, joining her two sisters on this eventful day.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Dolgoon couldn't contain his tears as he comprehended that he had become the father of triplet daughters. Witnessing three beautiful, squirming baby girls in his embrace was nothing short of miraculous for him. He expressed his deep gratitude to Tsetseg, his wife, for bringing his daughters into the world.
Tsetseg was overwhelmed with emotion but seeing her husband shed tears, she restrained her own joyful weeping.
In the midst of their newborn daughters, Dolgoon pondered on the appropriate names to bestow upon them.
He carefully observed his infants and reflected, "As I cradled our first daughter and her sisters, her sisters' cries ceased instantly. Her soothing aura pacified them, and her little hands securely held onto her siblings, exuding a maternal protectiveness. I believe our eldest should be named Bolormaa."
Upon hearing this, Tsetseg beamed, "It signifies Crystal Mother.”
Tsetseg gazed fondly at the second baby, the tiniest among her sisters. "What should we name our second daughter?" Her hands tenderly lifted the newborn from Bolormaa's hand and her husband's embrace, cradling her carefully.
"She's so delicate and has the sweet scent of roses," Dolgoon proposed. "Altansarnai would be a fitting name for her."
Tsetseg leaned in to sniff the baby, as if giving her a gentle kiss. "You're absolutely right. She truly does smell like roses."
While stroking the second newborn's face, she was taken aback when the baby's tiny hand clasped tightly around her finger. Trying to release her grip, Tsetseg found the baby holding on even tighter. Momentarily surprised, she then smiled and turned to her husband. "What do you think about changing her name to Davaa?"
Her husband, witnessing the endearing moment, nodded in agreement. "Mountain pass? That name reflects her inner strength perfectly."
His gaze then shifted to the youngest newborn in his arms. "And what shall we name this little third one?”
Tsetseg observed the third baby in Dolgoon's embrace, noting with admiration, "She's the easiest to give birth to. I didn't need to push her, as if she knew her mother was in pain and tried her best to help ease it by pushing herself out from her mother's womb."
Dolgoon gazed proudly at his youngest triplet, praising, "She's smart and selfless to soothe her mother's pain. What do you say we name her Bilguun?"
"Intelligent wisdom. The name pairs well with your name," Tsetseg readily agreed.
Dolgoon chuckled and then gazed at his triplets, "Dolgoon Bilguun, Dolgoon Davaa, and Dolgoon Bolormaa. Your aab has a feeling that you three are going to grow up to be happy, magnificent women just like your mother."
Tsetseg chuckled, "And strong and intelligent, just like your father."
Dolgoon raised an eyebrow at his wife, "Please, my flower. Don't wish for our daughters to inherit my strength over yours. We know that you are stronger than me. Remember, your family is led by strong women like you and your grandmother. It is highly possible that your family's strength will be passed on to them."
"I understand, my solace. However, I want to see your strength in our daughters, and I have a feeling that they are going to inherit yours instead of mine. Besides, they all have red hair and green eyes just like yours," Tsetseg said.
Dolgoon's demeanor shifted from delight to sorrow as he gazed at his daughters,
"I fear that they may follow in my footsteps and become weapons themselves."
Tsetseg empathized with her husband's emotions,
"Rest assured, together we will safeguard our three daughters from the clutches of the Dark Weapons. This is a pledge we made even before I conceived."
Dolgoon's worries lingered,
"We made a vow. I even committed to being a full-time father to ensure their well-being. However, now that I have left the Dark Weapons without authorization, there is a risk they may track me. Once they discover my connection to you and our children, nothing may prevent them from taking hold of our daughters. The thought of what they might endure distresses me the most.”
“How about we run far away where the Dark Weapons won't track us?” He suggested.
"Running away may seem like the easiest option, but it's also the riskiest one. By doing so, we would be leaving the Dark Weapons with every advantage they need. That's why, when there are no other safe choices, it's important to empower our daughters to fight and defend themselves once they're old enough to understand that monsters like the Dark Weapons are the toughest enemy to face alone. As the Mongolia Minister of Defence, I am committed to defending Mongolia from any potential harm or threats, and I will strive to enhance the security for all Mongolia citizens, including our own family,” Tsetseg empathetically explained.
"Being a family means being there for one another, supporting and tolerating each other," she continued, offering solace. "If one of us carries a burden..." She paused, resting a comforting hand on her husband's.
"Then, the other must help shoulder that burden together, no matter what the consequences may be," Dolgoon gently added.
Suddenly, the silence was broken by the melodic laughter of the angelic baby Bolormaa, followed by her sisters.
"Seems like we are graced with a little performer in our midst," Tsetseg softly uttered.
"Oh, dear Bolormaa, you bring even more light to your father's heart," Dolgoon affectionately teased his eldest daughter, to which she responded with even more delightful laughter.
Tsetseg joyfully gazed upon her husband as he lovingly played with their precious infants until they began to squeal with hunger. Dolgoon, filled with worry, frantically asked his beloved wife why their little ones were in distress. Tsetseg couldn't help but laugh softly, finding great delight in her husband's endearing and comical response.
Chapter 1
The Grown Up Triplets
Sixteen years later, the babies Bolormaa, Davaa, and Bilguun are now teenage girls. They live happily in their parents' house in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. On the other side of Ulaanbaatar, far from the busy city and surrounded by a pine tree forest, there is a beautiful mansion owned by the Mongolian Minister of Defense in an open field.
In the kitchen, Dolgoon was frying Boortsog, a traditional Mongolian deep-fried dough, for breakfast. After taking the Boortsog out of the hot oil and putting them on a plate, Dolgoon started making Mongolian milk tea, called Suutei Tsai, for a comforting drink in the busy morning. He also made clotted cream to enjoy with the Boortsog, along with some Mongolian yogurt he prepared the night before. His mother-in-law sent him a jar of cow's milk through a delivery service the day before. Wanting to use it up, he decided to make fresh yogurt for his triplets, who loved it for breakfast. With everything ready on the table, breakfast was finally served. Now it's time to call his daughters down to enjoy their meal.
He went upstairs to his daughters’ room to tell them about breakfast. First, he went to Bolormaa's room, the oldest of the triplets. Each of his daughters' rooms had name boards on their doors.
“Bolormaa. Breakfast is ready.” Dolgoon knocked on the door, but there was no answer. He looked confused and decided to open the unlocked door. As soon as he entered Bolormaa's room, a big pink dress fell on him and suddenly, his clothes turned into the same pink dress. He looked at himself in the mirror, wearing a pink dress that surprisingly fit him. Despite this unexpected turn of events, Dolgoon chuckled quietly and shook his head.
"Wow, this dress is so pretty. I feel really nice wearing it," He quietly walked over to his daughter's closet, where a red winter coat was hanging on the hook. He reached out and grabbed the coat. As he turned around, he saw his daughter, a beautiful teenage girl, laughing as he caught her in the act of switching his everyday clothes with the pink dress .
"You got me, Bolormaa," Dolgoon said, placing a hand on his hip. Bolormaa, the teenage girl with two braided side hairs, signed to her father, teasing him. She uses sign language to communicate because she is mute and cannot speak with her voice. When Bolormaa was younger, she didn't speak until she was three years old. This worried Dolgoon and Tsetseg, so they took her to the doctor. The doctor confirmed that Bolormaa has a verbal disability. She would become still and show a frozen expression when she was supposed to talk to someone outside of her comfort zone, like the doctor.
The parents were saddened to learn that the eldest of their triplets, Bolormaa, was disabled. They believed that God allowed this to test their faith in His wisdom.
It turned out that Bolormaa was not the only disabled child in the family. Her sisters also had disabilities, but each was different. At four years old, Davaa went for a hearing check-up with her sisters. The doctor found that Bolormaa and Bilguun could hear well, but Davaa was deaf. This explained why Davaa didn't respond when her siblings called her.
Bilguun was diagnosed with autism when she was four years old when Tsetseg and Dolgoon discovered that she had early reading skills. In the same year Davaa was diagnosed with hearing loss, Bilguun had read an encyclopedia about flowers before her sisters could read a short story book . Her parents even noticed that she would avoid making eye contact and often stared at the ceiling or sky for long periods of time. She also became anxious when separated from her sisters, and enjoyed organizing and setting up things, especially during playtime. Bilguun's hands would often feel tight. Dolgoon and Tsetseg, even her sisters, were concerned about these signs and decided to seek help from a child expert. It was discovered that Bilguun has Savant Syndrome and Asperger's Syndrome, which is related to autism spectrum disorder.
In conclusion, God created the triplets to be born with disabilities at a young age. At first, Dolgoon wondered if this was a punishment for his past as an assassin before meeting Tsetseg and leaving that life behind for her. However, Tsetseg reassured him that their children's disabilities were not a punishment from God, but rather a way for them to seek forgiveness for his previous wrongdoings.
Tsetseg would tell her husband during times of difficulty, "God is kind and forgiving. He wouldn't punish someone without giving them a chance to prove themselves and make things right,'" reassuring him as they faced the challenges of raising their disabled daughters.
"I noticed you learned a new magic trick. Look at you, on your way to becoming a magician," Dolgoon chuckled, seeing himself in a pink dress that fit his large, muscular body. Then, he saw his daughter wearing a red winter dress which matched his own. "I like your dress. Did your uncle give it to you?"
Bolormaa nodded and gestured, explaining that she asked her uncle to create a dress in the same design but in her father's size so she could play a magic prank on him.
"So, your uncle Ankhbayar is in on the prank too. Well, can't blame him for going along with what his nieces request," Dolgoon said as he set Bolormaa down.
"Bolormaa, could you please change my clothes back? I wouldn't want to feel embarrassed if your sisters see me in this dress," Dolgoon kindly asked his daughter, using sign language as he always did when communicating with his daughters, even though Bolormaa could hear him. When her father mentioned her sisters, Bolormaa suddenly got an idea. She playfully danced her lips and curved a teasing smile on her face, catching Dolgoon's attention. He immediately understood what was on her mind. Before he could even ask his daughter to change his clothes, Bolormaa had already snuck past him and ran to Davaa's room. Dolgoon was surprised, his jaw dropping, before he instinctively chased after his daughter.
However, he was in a tough spot because Bolormaa ran faster than him, getting to Davaa's room before he did and knocking on the door. Davaa, a teenage girl with braided hair on the right side, opened the door to see her older sister standing there. She signed, asking her sister why she was knocking on her door. Bolormaa quickly pointed to their father, who was following behind her, wearing a pink dress that surprised Davaa and made her laugh. Bolormaa then signed for her sister to show Bilguun their funny father in a pink dress. They both ran away from their father and towards their sister's room.
They knocked on the door together. Soon, Bilguun, a teenage girl with braided hair on the left side, came out from her room with her round glasses in her right hand, rubbing the sleepiness from her eyes with her left hand.
"Why are you two knocking on my door? It's noisy, you know!" She complained while gesturing to her sisters.
Bolormaa carefully took the glasses from Bilguun's hand and put them on her eyes. Davaa gently pushed her away from the doorway and pointed to their father in a pink dress. Bilguun peered at first, but then her green eyes widened in surprise and she laughed, seeing her father in a pink dress. Her laughter was joined by her sisters.
"Alright, all three of you have seen me in this beautiful dress. It's a good thing your mother doesn't see me right now." Dolgoon let out an exhausted sigh after playfully chasing Bolormaa and Davaa. When their father mentioned their mother, the triplets exchanged looks, having a silent moment of conversation before they ran to their parents' room to tell their mother about their father wearing a pink dress.
Dolgoon hurried to catch up to them so his wife wouldn't see him in an embarrassing situation. The hallway echoed with laughter as the triplets ran, catching the attention of their mother, who had just finished getting ready for work.
"Girls, what's all the noise about?" Tsetseg asked, stepping out of her room.
The triplets ran over to their mother, jumping up and down happily and giggling while pointing at their father in a pink dress. Tsetseg was surprised and dropped her jaw in disbelief when she saw her husband wearing the dress. She tilted her head, placed a hand on her hip, and looked at Bolormaa.
"Bolormaa, out of all your pranks, this one is the best," Tsetseg chuckled, followed by her daughters.
Even though he was being teased by his wife and daughters, Dolgoon kept smiling, shaking his head calmly. He felt embarrassed but also enjoyed seeing his family happy together.
Chapter 2
Aab's Breakfast
"If you're done teasing me, how about we go downstairs? I made Boortsog and fresh yogurt," Dolgoon said. The triplets were excited when their father mentioned Boortsog and fresh yogurt because they love those foods for breakfast.
"First, Bolormaa, could you please change this dress back to my everyday shirt?" Dolgoon asked politely, reaching out his hands.
Bolormaa changed her father's pink dress back to his regular clothes by pulling the dress off him. Dolgoon thanked his daughter with a smile. Then, Bolormaa, Davaa, and Bilguun went downstairs while their parents followed. They used sign language to communicate, and Bilguun couldn't stop talking and gesturing about Bolormaa's magic prank. Dolgoon blushed, embarrassed by his daughter's mischief, while Tsetseg chuckled at her husband's reaction.
At the dining table, the family enjoyed the meal prepared by Dolgoon. The three sisters loved eating the homemade Boortsog and Mongolian yogurt their father made for them. Dolgoon was happy to see his daughters enjoying the breakfast he had made. Sitting beside him, Tsetseg thanked her husband for cooking breakfast for the family.
"You're welcome, my dear. Have some more Boortsog. I know you have a busy day ahead, so you need lots of energy to get through the next ten hours." Dolgoon placed more Boortsog on his wife's plate. Tsetseg thanked her husband once again, feeling grateful for marrying such a kind and understanding man. Dolgoon also felt grateful to have married a strong and caring woman like Tsetseg, who would do anything to protect him and their daughters.
Meanwhile, the second oldest of the triplets, Davaa, tapped Bilguun's shoulder to get her attention. Bilguun turned around, but her eye contact was different. As an autistic girl, maintaining eye contact can be tiring and take away focus from the conversation. Instead, she preferred to watch Davaa's hand signs to understand what was being communicated. Davaa signed to Bilguun, asking her to grab two Boortsog for her. Bilguun agreed, took two Boortsog from the plate, and placed them on Davaa's plate. Davaa thanked her using sign language.
"You're welcome, Davaa," Bilguun said while using sign language, even though her eyes were looking elsewhere. Bilguun gave Davaa some Boortsog, so Davaa took Bilguun's yogurt bowl, poured some yogurt into it, and placed it back in front of Bilguun as a way to say thank you. Bilguun really liked the Mongolian yogurt made by her father. She thanked Davaa with gratitude using sign language. Bolormaa watched her sisters exchange food and decided to reward both Davaa and Bilguun by adding more Boortsog to Davaa's plate and placing another bowl of yogurt in front of Bilguun.
Davaa and Bilguun signed their thanks for the Boortsog and yoghurt they received. Seeing the triplet sisters rewarding each other made their parents proud and brought smiles to their faces.
"They still share food even when they're already teenagers." Dolgoon was touched, feeling proud.
"Well, you've raised them well, that's why." Tsetseg expressed gratitude to her husband for taking care of their disabled triplet daughters, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Don't be too modest, my dear. I will always remember your help in raising our triplets." Dolgoon insisted, leaning on his wife's shoulder.
Dolgoon and Tsetseg exchanged a look, silently communicating before giving the triplets more Boortsog and Dolgoon's fresh yogurt. Bolormaa wasn't surprised but signed, telling her parents that they needed to eat more than them, especially her mother since she had to work overtime as the Mongolian Minister of Defence.
"Bolormaa, are you suggesting that I should eat your AaB's delicious breakfast until my stomach explodes?" Tsetseg stood up from her seat, went behind Bolormaa, and tickled her stomach. Bolormaa giggled and nodded.
"Well, if your mother is getting a bit chubby, I'll have to thank you, Bolormaa, for feeding her so much. She'll be even cuter if she becomes plump." Dolgoon joked with his wife, joining in with his daughter.
"What did you say?" Tsetseg placed her hands on her hips, approaching her beloved husband.
"I simply mentioned that you would be even more charming with a little extra softness." Dolgoon playfully teased his adored wife.
Tsetseg let out a playful scoff. "Well, if I were to gain some weight, you would have to carry me up the stairs like you did when I was expecting, for it is quite taxing to ascend with a fuller figure."
"As you wish, my love." Dolgoon rose from his seat, tenderly took hold of his wife's wrist, and lifted her into his arms, causing Tsetseg to let out a surprised gasp.
"Not now, my dear." Tsetseg pleaded softly.
Dolgoon gazed at his wife with deep affection. "Girls, please close your eyes," he gently instructed his daughters.
The triplets obediently covered their eyes with their hands as their father leaned in to kiss their mother's lips, displaying a love that was pure and true. When their parents were giving a quick kiss, Bilguun wanted to peek out, but Davaa stopped her. After the parents finished kissing, Dolgoon told his daughters to open their eyes because it was time to finish breakfast. After they finished eating, the family helped each other clean up.
Davaa and Tsetseg washed the dirty dishes, while Bolormaa and Bilguun dried them. Meanwhile, Dolgoon organized the dry dishes into the dish rack. When they finished with the dishes, Bolormaa, Davaa, and Bilguun helped tidy up the dining room while their parents cleaned the kitchen. Dolgoon looked at the clock on the wall.
"My flower, it's time for you to head to work," he reminded his wife, who was the main provider for the family.
Tsetseg checked her watch. "Oh, you're right, my solace."
After finishing cleaning the kitchen, Tsetseg gave her husband a quick kiss on the cheek and said, "I'm off to work. Wish me luck.”
Dolgoon responded to her kiss by gently kissing her on the forehead. "You have my blessing, my dear." He handed his wife the lunch bag he had prepared for her.
"Girls, I'm heading to work," Tsetseg called out to her triplet daughters as she left the kitchen and walked to the dining room. Bolormaa, Davaa, and Bilguun had tidied up the dining room, so they quickly went to their mother. Each of them gave her a kiss on the cheek, as they always do before she leaves for work. They also gestured to her, reminding her to stay safe at work.
"I will, if it is God's will, my little flowers," Tsetseg replied. Dolgoon came over and handed her the suitcase. Tsetseg thanked her husband and made her way to the front door.
"See you at dinner, everyone," Tsetseg waved goodbye before opening the door and leaving her mansion. Waiting outside in her black BMW was a personal driver. She got into the car, sat in the passenger seat, and soon her personal driver drove the car away from the driveway.
After his wife left the mansion, Dolgoon turned to his three daughters.
"Okay, my girls. Time to put on your combat suits. We're working out today!" Dolgoon instructed. Bolormaa, Davaa, and Bilguun quickly saluted their father-like soldiers to their commander, following his orders. They hurried upstairs to change into their training gear.
