I won't run anymore. But I didn't have a choice then. It wasn't like I was a fighter. I wasn't a saviour either. I'm different now. But when I think back on all those days I spent crying and hating myself for being weak , they weren't so bad were they?

Laughing with my family, hanging out with my friends. All those intimate memories with the people close to my heart. I just wish that I could relive them. Maybe it'll be possible when all those memories play again at my death. Heh, funny thought. 

*Smack*

" Ow!!! What the hell was that for?"

" I have been calling your name for 10 mins now Jinx", Lilith said, heading back behind the counter and continuing to clean this up," What were you thinking bout?"

I waved her off. I didn't wanna ruin the mood. She didn't pursue the topic further either.

 Everyone in the neighborhood was cautious of me, except Lilith . After all I was an abandoned problem child whom no one wanted. I have no blood relatives except my brother who ran away, and my adoptive parents abandoned me, leaving me to fend for myself.

Lilith is the only supportive figure in my life, and after escaping an abusive partner, she doesn't think much about relationships. Well that may be the only thing we both agree on…

We were just about to close the bakery, when a few thugs came in. Our bakery had good business even though we weren't one of those high class shops. Thugs were uncommon here. 

I slowly whispered to Lilith, "Go call some to the shop, or call the police." 

"But-"

" You know I can take care of myself, so I'm going to stay behind. Go and call the cops. Or alert someone in the neighborhood.", I said, cutting her off.

Police weren't needed. I had handled some goons like this before. There are many things that were so twisted in my past that I'm surprised I'm still sane.

Mostly sane.

They were two in number. This should be easy.

They didn't notice me picking up a knife from the counter. I wouldn't kill them, just hurt them enough to cripple them. I charged at one of them, Knife still hidden in my apron. 

I stabbed one of them in the leg, And using one of the pans on the counter I knocked him out. The second one put up a fight and landed a lucky punch on my face. I was a bit dazed but I'll stand my own. 

I slashed his legs, and went for his neck. I choked him till he passed out and immediately tied him up. I was wondering where Lilith was and my mind wondered just for a second. 

Shit. 

He had woken up and was pointing a gun at me. It was too late by the time I could take cover, he already shot me. It was on the leg. He shot me a second time to , in the stomach.

It was a simple robbery. Them having loaded guns didn't make sense. Well not like it mattered , I was still shot. Damn my overconfidence.  If Lilith doesn't come back soon I'll die of blood loss, or he'll just shoot me again. Whichever. Atleast I'm gonna die. 

Everyone born in this world is born for a reason. Atleast, that's what people say. If my reason was suffering in this world I had fulfilled my reason. 

Not yet, there's still time. And stop being dramatic. U ain't dying today. 

What? Is that God ??? Who the hell said that?? Wait , maybe it's Lilith…. But she doesn't sound like that. What's happening?? 

And that's when i saw the light…

The lights are too bright….was my first thought as I woke up. Where the hell was I???? Oh yeah I got shot. So mostly the hospital. I didn't have the energy to get up. From the corner of my eye, I saw Lilith sleeping on a sofa in a very uncomfortable position.

She should have just gone home. I would have been fine. 

Says the one who thought she was gonna die. 

What the hell?!?!Where did that voice come from????

Since you were born. I have been there with you since the very beginning. Whenever you thought u were alone I was there with you. I just wasn't powerful enough then to wake up and communicate with you. And too top it off, your original parents locked me in chains, and I could only come out when you needed me. And that's happened when you were fighting off those too jerks who shot u.

Okay, so u are saying my real parents were some creepy woodoos who locked a voice inside my head.

That's what scares me.

I heard a a snort in my head. Damn. I don't know what to believe. But it would be crazy fun if whatever she actually said was true. Ughhh, I can be a bit hypocritical.

Suddenly feeling thirsty, I tried again to get up but failed. Whatever small movement I made seemed to have woken up Lilith. Tears swelled up in her eyes and she came and gave me a bear hug. 

"What were you thinking??? U got shot !!twice!!!!! I was so scared!!! Do u have any idea!!!", Lilith said as she tried to keep her tears in check.

"Water-"

That was all I could manage to croak out. She called for a nurse, they together helped me up and she handed me the glass of water. 

"Jinx!!! You slept for two continuous days. I was so worried. I closed the shop. And-"

"What??? You closed the shop??? Why??? You put your heart and soul into it??? And I slept for two days?? It bloody felt like I closed my eyes and opened them."

"I didn't "close" close the shop. I was just a bit busy making rounds in the hospital and police station that ,I didn't have time to open it. So I just closed it for the time being. Just till u get better."

" Police station??? Weren't both of those thieves caught??"

" No, they were both caught. Police think that these weren't some normal thieves. They think that there was a motive behind."

"Why would they think that?"

It was a thought I had myself while fighting them. They were well built and trained fighters. Lucky, I had been learning lots of martial arts and fighting techniques for 15 years. But even they entered it was as though they came looking for us. They didn't search or look around. They knew what they had come for. 

" Because they were from a well known mafia gang- Black Scorpion Rose."

At the mention of that name , I remembered a very vague memory. A memory I wished to forget. A memory I wished I never had.….

" Sweetie, blow out the candles and make a wish!"

" Yes mom!", a little sqeaky voice replied.

Just as the child blew out the candles, gunshots were heard. They closed the windows and hid the kids in a room inside the closet.

" Mom, whats happening?!"

" It will all be fine sweetheart. Jinx and Cameron, don't come out no matter what. You both must live on. And Cameron protect your sister, because like you always said, She's special."

Muffled sounds of the guns could be heard. There was a lot of struggle. They heard the doors open, someone got dragged in.

They could hear their mom screaming in pain as they sexually assaulted her. Their father was made to watch it. 

They heard the men outside say- " That's what you get for going against the Black Scorpions. Now give us your daughter and we'll let you live."

"Never."

" We'll find her one day. And we'll kill her. That'll be the end of your legacy Augustus."

They almost gave themselves up. They wanted the kids anyways. Their parents would be safe.

"My legacy had just started , you bastard. My children will be the end of your boss and you. And the minute you messed with my family, you dug your own grave."

And their father was killed. Shot in the head. Mother was raped till she killed herself. All they could do is cry and listen as their parents were brutally killed. Tortured for their children's sake.

At the age when children watch cartoons and play with their friends. They silently promised their dead parents, that all the pain they went through would not be for naught.

Children watched their parents assualted and die, but didn't cry, just like their parents no matter how much it hurt. But both of the kids vowed to avenge their parents one day. They didn't know how or when or where, but then again, death never gives a warning.

*Flashback ends*

"Lilith , ask the police to back of from the case from now. They'll lose personal and get nowhere. And ask them if I could talk to the Head of their department." 

Maybe a lot had changed, my brother who once promised to stay by my side had left me to search someone. He was always secretive. My adoptive parents sent me to an orphanage because they couldn't deal with me and all my bad records. I was a problem child.

But I what happened that day, I don't know what my dad meant, what legacy he was talking bout, but I will fulfill it.

I know there something more to the "legacy" thing. But for right now, I have to get stronger and do some more research. Now that they have showed up, I can't let them go off the grid again.

" Jinx, what are you planning on doing??"

"Nothing just some mischief. Afterall, I think it's time to put my contacts into some use. I didn't get into trouble for nothing all these years..."
