The sun had barely risen over the horizon, casting a warm glow over the bustling palace. Servants scurried about, preparing for the grandest ceremony the empire had seen in years: The wedding of Emperor Arvin to Princess Nailah.
In the heart of the palace, Princess Nailah stood poised, her dark wavy hair styled in intricate braids adorned with delicate gemstones. Her attendants, led by Kanha, busied themselves with the final touches of her wedding attire.
Kanha's skilled hands delicately fastened the delicate silver clasps on the queen's ornate gown. The fabric shimmered in the morning light, its intricate patterns woven with threads of gold and white.
"Your Majesty, you look breathtaking," Kanha said, stepping back to admire her handiwork.
Queen Nailah's eyes sparkled with gratitude. "Thank you, Lady Kanha. I couldn't have asked for a more diligent and talented attendant such as yourself, You have done it again, my dear cousin."
As the princess's ladies-in-waiting helped her into her elaborate headdress, Kanha took a moment to survey the room. The air was thick with excitement and anticipation. Today marked not only the union of two souls but also the forging of a powerful alliance between nations.
As I sat in front of the mirror, my ladies-in-waiting buzzed around me, their hands moving deftly as they worked their magic. Kanha, my chief attendant, also my cousin, was styling my hair, her fingers weaving an intricate pattern of braids and curls.
Mirha, on the other hand, was focused on my makeup, her brush strokes gentle as she highlighted my cheekbones and defined my eyes and applied a perfect peach tint onto my lips.
"Mirha, you're a genius!" Kanha exclaimed, stepping back to admire her handiwork. "Nailah, you look stunning!"
I smiled, feeling a sense of excitement and nervousness. Today was my wedding day, and I was ready to make a lasting impression.
Mirha, usually the quiet one, spoke up, her voice filled with awe. "Your Majesty, you're so beautiful. I've never seen anyone as lovely as you."
I blushed, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Mirha. She was always so reserved, but her words touched my heart.
Kanha chuckled, her eyes twinkling with mirth. "Mirha, you're making the future Empress blush!"
The other ladies-in-waiting laughed, their voices filling the room with warmth and joy.
I smiled, feeling grateful for these wonderful women who had been by my side throughout my journey.
As Mirha finished my makeup, I gazed into the mirror, hardly recognizing the woman staring back at me. I looked...regal. Powerful. Beautiful.
Mirha's eyes met mine in the mirror, and I saw a glimmer of admiration there. She smiled, her lips curving upwards, and I felt a sense of connection with her. God, she's so cute.
"Thank you, Mirha," I said, my voice sincere. "You've made me feel like a true queen."
Mirha smiled in response.
It was now time for the carriage, and we arrived, ready.
As I stepped out of the carriage, the crisp morning air enveloped me. My ladies-in-waiting, a flurry of silk and satin, each with a colour pattern of gold and white, they all swirled around me, their hands gently grasping my veil, which billowed behind me like a cloud.
I felt a flutter in my chest, a mix of excitement and nerves, as I gazed up at the chapel's imposing facade. My parents, resplendent in their finery, awaited me at the entrance, their faces beaming with pride.
"Nailah, darling, you look exquisite," my mother whispered, her eyes shining with tears.
My father smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You are a true Empress, my dear."
With their hands on my arms, they escorted me down the aisle, the music swelling around us like a wave.
As we walked, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the beauty of the chapel. The stained-glass windows filtered the light, casting kaleidoscopic patterns on the stone floor. The air was thick with the scent of incense and flowers, and the soft murmur of the crowd created a soothing background hum.
I glanced up at Emperor Arvin, who stood tall and imposing at the altar, his eyes fixed on mine. For a moment, I felt a pang of nervousness, wondering if I was truly ready for this moment. But as I looked into his eyes, I saw a glimmer of kindness and warmth, and my doubts melted away.
The ceremony began, and I felt a sense of calm wash over me. The bishop's voice was soothing, his words a gentle reminder of the vows I was about to take.
I repeated my vows, my voice clear and steady, and Emperor Arvin did the same.
As we exchanged rings, our hands touched briefly, sending a spark of electricity through me. I smiled up at him, feeling a sense of joy and wonder that I had never felt before.
The ceremony ended, and Emperor Arvin took my hand, leading me down the aisle as husband and wife. The crowd erupted into cheers and applause, and I felt like I was floating on air as we were heading to the royal ball room.
As we stepped out of the chapel, I was greeted by a sea of smiling faces. The emperor's guards stood at attention, their uniforms gleaming in the sunlight. The air was filled with the sweet scent of flowers and the sound of laughter and music.
I felt like I was in a dream, like nothing could ever bring me down from this high. I was married to the Emperor of Èvana, and I was ready to start our new life.
But as the day wore on now, it was close to nighttime, and I began to feel a pang of disappointment. Emperor Arvin was busy attending to the guest more than to me well i couldn't blame him he doesn't really know me and i could very much bore him but yet still he could atleast try to get to know me. I brushed it off. i mean, we have forever to get to know each other, and I was left to entertain myself since my ladies have escorted my parents to the imperial castle Where they will sleep for the night and head back home. I'm practically alone here.
I sat still one my thorwn in this massive ball room, feeling a little lost and alone. I had expected to spend the day with my new husband, but it seemed like he had other plans.
As the sun began to set, I received notice from Heman, Arvin's right handman saying im to go to the Malaka (the eastern) castle i hadn't seen him for a while now so I set off following Heman hoping to find Emperor Arvin waiting for me. But when I arrived, I found myself alone again and this time in complete silence
I felt a pang of disappointment and hurt as I was heading to my chambers following Heman and with several staff greeting and welcoming me into the castle. Was Emperor Arin avoiding me and covering it up with his plans? And why was he leaving me alone on our wedding night?
I tried to shake off the feeling of loneliness, telling myself that I was being silly. After all, Emperor Arvin was a busy man, and he had responsibilities to attend to.
But as I lay in bed, waiting for sleep to come, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Why had Emperor Arin not come to me on our wedding night? And what was this urgent business that he had to attend to? A voice shortly interrupted my jumbled thoughts
"May I come in you, Majesty?" I heard Heman's voice
Sure, come in, please, I answered.
"I'm sorry but his Majesty won't be joining you for dinner he is still tending to his guests back in the Imperial Castle, he said to inform you that he might take a while" Heman announced and left immediately as thou he was dodging being asked any questions. anyways, a beautiful girl came in
I stared at her. She bowed down her head
"You Majesty, my name is Elara. I will be your personal maid from today onwards," she stated.
Elara, what a lovely name. I thought she raised her head, and she looked at me. I smiled back.
"Is there anything you would like to start with My lady it is your wedding night, or are you to go to bed now? Are you exhausted, my lady?" Elara asked, concerned.
She reminded me of Mirha, but she did remind me it was my wedding night
I told Elara to prepare the bath and have my dinner brought here. I didn't have the energy to go out now. The emperor could come anytime and find me unprepared
After my bathe and dinner, I was just sitting on the bed waiting patiently for Arvin to be back it is our wedding night he can't possibly miss it, I thought to myself as the night wore on
Just as I was starting to drift off to sleep, I heard a knock at the door. My heart leapt with excitement as I threw off the covers and sat upright.
"Come in!" I called out, expecting to see the emperor standing in the doorway.
Instead, it was Elara and one of the staff members holding a small letter in her hand. "I'm so sorry, Your Majesty," she said, looking at me with sympathetic eyes. "But the emperor sent this notice. He apologizes, but he won't be able to join you tonight."
I felt a pang of disappointment, the words, feeling a sense of confusion and uncertainty. Why had the emperor not come to join me? What was going on?
I looked up at the staff member, feeling a sense of vulnerability. "Thank you," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "I'll just...I'll just go back to bed, then.
What did I expect he is The Emperor Arvin of Èvana and above all, this was a political marriage, so should I blame him or myself for having explanations.
No! I shouldn't beat myself up for such a trivial matter. This is only the beginning. I will make this political union an actual marriage. I stayed optimistic the rest of the night as I drifted to sleep.
When I woke up the next morning, I felt a sense of determination and purpose. I would make this marriage work, no matter what. I would win Emperor Arin's heart, and I would be the best Empress this empire had ever seen.
But as I sat at the table, picking at the delicious food, I couldn't help but feel a sense of loneliness. Where was the emperor? Why had he not come to join me yet? But I quickly brushed it off.
I excused myself and made my way back to our room, telling the staff to call me when the emperor arrived. I lay in bed, waiting for what felt like an eternity. Four hours passed, and I was starting to feel like I would never see the emperor again.
It was already evening, and I once again had my dinner without Arvin
As I was heading to my chambers with Elara trailing behind me, I was met with a giant bouquet of roses and Heman standing aside them
"Your Majesty I'm truly very sorry once again there was an urgent matter His Majesty had to attend I bring you this gesture and a token of his Majesty's sincere apologies for the distress caused and his Majesty added you could have my head if you desire Your Majesty " as he bowed
I couldn't help but laugh as I reached for the roses. I obviously couldn't lift them, but I could touch them they were beautiful. I smiled
"Elara, find them a special place in the garden, please. I don't want them dying," I ordered
Turning my attention to Heman," Thank you, send my gratitude to The emperor wherever he is."
Heman bowed and left. I went straight to bed with a smile on my face. I could only just imagine how much we could be in love if he was available.
Looking back at it.........it was merely just the beginning.
Arvin 's POV
As I stood in the grand hall, surrounded by the nobles and digneshanging my cup in a toast, laughing and joking with the Lords and nobles who had come to pay their respects. The music was loud, the food was plentiful, and the wine flowed like a river. I was having a damned good time, and for a moment, I forgot about my duties and responsibilities.
But as the night wore on, a nagging sense of guilt crept up on me. I glanced around, wondering what Nailah was up to. She was probably waiting for me at Malaka Castle, expecting me to join her on our wedding night. I cursed under my breath, feeling the weight of my obligations.
I knew I had to go to her, but the thought of riding to Malaka Castle in the dead of night was unappealing. I was tired, and the wine had taken its toll. I decided to postpone our reunion until morning after a good night's rest.
I made my way to my chambers, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I'd deal with Nailah in the morning. Tonight, I just wanted to sleep off the wine and the weariness.
The morning arrived sooner than expected. As I slowly opened my eyes, a throbbing headache greeted me. I groaned, realizing I had overslept. As I was trying to adjust to the light, my cousin, Duke Rnzo, burst into my chambers, a hint of amusement on his face.
"Shouldn't you be at Malaka Castle, enjoying your honeymoon?" Rnzo asked, chuckling.
I rubbed my temples, trying to alleviate the pain. "I'll get there eventually. But first, I need to recover from last night's celebrations."
Rnzo laughed. "You're getting old, cousin."
I grinned. "And you're next. I'll make sure to find you a suitable bride soon enough. there are plenty of noble ladies that came with Nailah." Knowing Rnzo isn't really into noble women
Rnzo raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I'm shaking in my boots."
I chuckled. "You should be. I'll find someone who can tame your wild ways."
Rnzo snorted. "I doubt it."
Our banter was cut short by Heman, my trusted right-hand man. "Your bride is waiting, sire. She looked a bit disappointed when I saw her last night and also earlier this morning."
Rnzo nodded in agreement. "You should go see her today, Arvin."
I nodded, still feeling a bit under the weather. "I'll go this evening. But first, I need some time to recover in will be in my study room. "
Rnzo clapped me on the back. "Don't get too caught up in your books and duties leave them to Heman, cousin. Your bride is waiting."
I smiled wryly. "I'll keep that in mind."
As Rnzo departed, I made my way to my study. I found my mother already waiting for me, a warm smile on her face.
"Good morning, son," she said, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "I see you're looking beat. Was the night that fun?"
I laughed, feeling a bit sheepish. "I may have overindulged last night."
My mother chuckled. "I'm sure it was a celebration to remember."
We shared a laugh, and then my mother's expression turned serious. "Arvin, don't forget to take care of Nailah. And you're always putting others before yourself, work on that too, my darling boy."
I smiled, feeling grateful for her love and wisdom. "I will, Mother. I promise."
My mother nodded, her eyes shining with warmth. "I know you will, son. You've always had a good heart."
RIANA (Queen Mother's pov)
As I pondered the weight of Arvin's responsibilities, I was interrupted by the sound of rustling silk and the soft chatter of the ladies-in-waiting. I turned to see them escorting the King Jun and Queen Hera of Bukid, Nailah's parents, into the hallway heading out.
My eyes widened as I took in the regal couple. They were even more stately and dignified than I had imagined. Hera's beauty was still radiant despite her advanced years, and the King's strong jawline and piercing eyes commanded respect.
I smiled warmly and made my way towards them, eager to greet Nailah's parents. As I approached, they bowed their heads in respect, and I could sense the warmth and kindness emanating from them.
"Your Majesties," I said, extending my hands in greeting. "It's an honour to finally meet you. I trust you enjoyed your stay."
" It was beyond lovely. Thank you again for your hospitality, Your Majesty," the King said, bowing his head.
" im glad, and I promise Nailah's safety, and I will ensured," I said, smiling warmly. "You may leave with peace of mind, knowing your daughter and her ladies are in good hands."
The Hera smiled, her eyes shining with gratitude. "Thank you, Your Majesty. We are forever in your debt."
With that, the royal couple boarded their carriages, and I watched as they departed. I turned to the ladies-in-waiting and smiled.
"Let us ensure Nailah's comfort and happiness," I said before nodding and walking away.
I, too, had a journey to undertake, returning to the Eastern Kingdom of (Kamaya). I made my way to my own carriage, ready to begin the journey back home
Meanwhile, Arvin sat in the study.
Arvin sat at my desk, pouring over the documents and reports scattered before him. Heman stood by the window, his eyes fixed on the darkness outside.
"It's getting late, sire," Heman said, his voice low and gentle.
Without looking up from his papers. "I know." Arvin responded,
Heman cleared his throat, a subtle signal that Arvin knew all too well. He was reminding Arvin of his duties and of the promises Arvin had made to Nailah.
Arvin sighed, rubbing his temples. He had promised himself he would visit Nailah tonight, but as the hours slipped away, he found himself increasingly reluctant to leave the comfort of his study.
"Heman," Arvin said finally, looking up at him. "I think it's time I sent a message to Malaka Castle."
Heman nodded, his expression neutral. "I'll see to it, sire."
Heman then headed to Malaka Castle and took the bouquet to Nailah wing of the castle, and just in time, Nailah was heading to her chambers, too.
"Your Majesty I'm truly very sorry once again there was an urgent matter His Majesty had to attend I bring you this gesture and a token of his Majesty's sincere apologies for the distress caused and his Majesty added you could have my head if you desire Your Majesty " as Heman said as he bowed
Nailah's laughter caught him of gaurd as she reached for the roses. She looked at them as though she wanted to lift them, but obviously couldn't.
"Elara, find them a special place in the garden, please. I don't want them dying," Nailah ordered her maid
Turning her attention to Heman, Nailah said," Thank you, send my gratitude to The emperor wherever he is."
Heman bowed and left.
I woke up early the next day, feeling a sense of unease and with a slight headache. I had been avoiding Nailah for too long, and I knew I needed to make things right between us today. I got dressed and made my way to her.
As I entered the Malaka castle, I saw her sitting on a seat, looking beautiful in her floral gown. She looked up at me, a hint of surprise in her eyes.
"Arvin ," she said, her voice neutral.
I took a deep breath, feeling a sense of remorse. "I apologize for my late arrival," I said, my voice sincere. "I wasn't able to make it back yesterday, and I'm sorry for that. I realize I haven't been the husband I should be."
Nailah looked at me, her expression sceptical. I could tell she wasn't sure if she believed me. I stayed with her the entire morning and afternoon, and I could feel her aura was still doubtful. I needed to fix that.
"Let me make it up to you," I said, trying to sound as sincere as possible. "Let's take a walk in the garden. It's a beautiful day, and I'd love to spend some time with you."
Nailah hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Okay," she said, standing up.
We walked to the garden, enjoying the warm evening sunshine and the beautiful flowers. I pointed out different blooms, explaining their meanings and significance. Nailah listened intently, asking questions and showing genuine interest.
As we walked, I could sense her scepticism slowly fading away. She was starting to relax around me, and I could see the tension in her body easing.
We reached a particularly beautiful section of the garden, filled with vibrant flowers and the soothing sound of a fountain. Nailah turned to me, a smile on her face.
"Thank you for showing me this," she said, her voice soft. "It's beautiful."
I smiled back at her, feeling a sense of relief. Maybe, just maybe, I could make things right between us.
And then, without warning, Nailah leaned in and kissed me. I was taken aback, but I kissed her back, feeling a rush of desire wash over me.
We stood there for a moment, lost in the kiss. But as the sun began to set, I knew we needed to head back to the castle.
We had dinner together, and I couldn't help but steal glances at Nalani. She looked beautiful, her eyes shining in the candlelight.
As the night wore on, I found myself feeling more and more drawn to her. I knew I needed to be careful, to not let my desire get the better of me.
But as we retired to our chambers, I couldn't help but feel a sense of desire. I took Nailah in my arms, and we consummated our marriage.
Soft, gentle was all i could think about as i slowly caressed her. i didn't want her hating intimacy,
Not long i could feel her quivering as she was reaching her climax once she was done, I gently pulled out and held her close to my chest, stroking her hair as her breathing slowly even.
As I lay there afterwards, feeling Nailah's warmth beside me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of disconnection. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy the physical act, but it felt...empty. Unemotional.
I looked over at Nailah, seeing the peaceful expression on her face. She was happy, I could tell. But I couldn't relate.
I got out of bed, careful not to disturb Nailah. I got dressed and left the room and spent the rest of my night my chambers, feeling a sense of guilt. I knew I shouldn't be feeling this way, not after what we had just shared. i went to sleep with many thoughts run through my mind.
The following morning, I made my way back to the Imperial castle, I couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt. I ordered flowers to be sent to Nailah, hoping to make up for my sudden departure.
As I arrived at the castle, I was greeted by Duke Rnzo, one of my cousins and closest friends. He was sitting in my office, looking relaxed and at ease.
"Arvin , my friend," he said, standing up. "What brings you back to the castle so early?"
I shrugged, feeling a sense of unease. "Just needed to take care of some business," I said, trying to sound nonchalant.
Rnzo raised an eyebrow, but he didn't press the issue. Instead, he changed the subject.
"I've been thinking," he said, leaning back in his chair. "I'm in the market for a mistress. Someone beautiful, intelligent, and charming."
I raised an eyebrow, feeling a sense of discomfort. I didn't really enjoy talking about women, not like Rnzo did.
"Good luck with that," I said, trying to sound nonchalant. It sounds skeptical, Rnzo isn't really the type to take commitment to anything , let alone a marriage.
Rnzo grinned. "I think I've found the perfect place to look. The southern kingdom, where your wife is from. I've heard the women there are beyond beautiful."
I felt a surge of guilt at the mention of Nailah, but I pushed it aside. Rnzo was just talking.
"I've actually seen one of the ladies before," Rnzo continued. " Lady Kanha and the daughter of the Southern governor Lady Kiara.
I leaned back in my chair, a plan forming in my mind. "Instead of going to the South, why don't you attend a ball here?" I suggested, a smile spreading across my face. "You can introduce yourself to the ladies-in-waiting. They're already here, and I'm sure they would be delighted to meet you."
Rnzo raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "A ball, you say? That's not a bad idea. But I want a cultured girl, someone with refinement and elegance."
I chuckled. "You'll find that the ladies-in-waiting are more than qualified to meet your standards. They're from the same region as Nailah, and they have all the qualities you're looking for. Plus, they're already familiar with the customs and etiquette of the royal court."
Rnzo nodded thoughtfully, clearly considering my proposal. "I must say, I am not really intrigued by any that i have met. These ladies-in-waiting are more...royal than loving, shall we say, than the women from the South. And they don't have that...distinctive accent that the Southerners have."
I smiled, knowing that I had won him over. "Exactly. So, what do you say? Shall we host a ball and introduce you to the ladies-in-waiting?"
Rnzo was about to respond when my secretary, Heman, burst into the room. "Your Majesty, I apologize for interrupting, but I have just returned from a meeting in the capital. There is news that requires your immediate attention."
I nodded, my expression serious. "Very well, Heman. Tell me what's happening."
Rnzo stood up, a look of understanding on his face. "I'll leave you to attend to your duties, Arvin . But I expect you to reconsider following through with that ball of yours. I really don't want to be thrown into a cage of hungry ladies-in-waiting."
I nodded, smiling. " Don't forget to get a lovely suit for the ball, Rnzo.
Now, Heman, tell me what's happening in the capital."
As the meeting at the court in the capital came to a close, I turned to Heman, my trusted right-handman. "I'm going to slip out through the garden entry," I said, my voice low. "I need some time to myself."
Heman nodded understandingly. He knew that being the Emperor could be overwhelming at times and that I needed a break from the pressures of royal life. "I'll make sure to inform the guards that you're out," he said, handing me a set of commoner's clothes. "Enjoy your evening, Your Majesty."
I smiled wryly as I took the clothes from him. Heman had known me since I was a child, and he was one of the few people who truly understood me. I changed quickly, feeling a sense of freedom as I shed my royal attire.
As I mounted my horse, Heman handed me the reins. "Be safe, Arvin ," he said, his voice serious.
I nodded, smiling. "I will, Heman. Thank you." times like this he doesn't call me any title
With that, I set off into the city, feeling a sense of exhilaration as I rode through the crowded streets. I passed through the market, taking in the sights and sounds of the bustling stalls. Feeling amoung, enjoying the anonymity of being a commoner.
As I rode along the riverbank, I saw a group of Markan children playing ball. I reined in my horse, watching them with a smile. They were laughing and shouting, completely carefree.
I dismounted my horse and approached them. "Mind if I join in?" I asked, in Madhist, so the kids will understand me
The children looked up at me in surprise, but then their faces broke out into wide smiles. "Yeah, you can be the referee!" one of them exclaimed.
But as the sun began to set, I realized that I had kept the children out for too long. "I'm sorry, kids," I said, feeling a pang of guilt. "I should probably get you home. Your parents will be worried about you."
The children looked at each other uncertainly, but then one of them spoke up. "It's okay, we're waiting for our moms. They're fetching water from the river."
I nodded, feeling a sense of relief. "Well, in that case, I hope u guys get home safely, but I should probably get going myself."
"Wait for our moms with us!" One shouted
I hesitated, feeling a pang of regret. But I knew that if the adults saw me, they would recognize me as the Emperor, and I didn't want that. So I smiled and waved and set off back towards the castle.
As I entered the garden, I saw a group of men sneaking away, carrying some of the castle's rabbits. I shouted in after them, but they stopped when they realised i was speaking Madish, "we are sorry, sir, but we need this," one shouted as they ran into the darkness
I cursed under my breath, feeling a sense of annoyance. But as I turned to head back to my horse, I heard a feminine voice shouting for help.
I spun around, my heart racing. Where was the voice coming from? And who was in trouble?
I looked behind the rocks there it was a fawn in a hole
She looked cute as the moonlight was directly beaming into the hole. I doubt she could see me. But we don't really live with any Markans,so I began and asked, "Who goes there?"
The intruder explained her situation,"I'm Mirha, one of Her Majesty's ladies-in-waiting. I was walking in the garden and got lost. I fell into this well by accident."
I asked sceptically. "What are you doing here? This isn't a place for the queen's ladies."
She proceeded to explain. "I told you, I got lost. I was just exploring the garden and stumbled upon this well."
I couldn't tell if she might be telling the truth but i wanted know more like why is her Madish so perfect even better than last time i checked its not a language taught to any nobles so i pressed on "I don't believe you. You're not even supposed to be here. The Markans aren't fond of this place. Why are you here?" I asked.
I could tell that this girl's patience was wearing thin, but she tried to remain calm. Cute. "My name is Mira, but in the Southern region, I'm referred to as Mirha. I'm with the new Empress, I'm one of her ladies-in-waiting. I learned how to speak Madish because my mom was a blind farmer at the border of the South East border. She would usually call some of our neighbours who were Markan to take care of me, see we lived alone, and mom would go to the main market to sell the goods, hence my fluency in Madish." She said
Not a noble? That's a first, but why would Nailah give the position of lady-in-waiting to a commoner? Well, I wasn't complaining, but I didn't expect it. Maybe she is just as kind as that. I then decided to cut this encounter short and get her out of there. She looked tired and injured.
"Hmmm, enough of your life story. Let me get a rope." I said, sounding un interested
Just as i was about to fetch a rope, i heard the sound of guards calling out her name. I decided to leave it to them and leave Mirha to wonder what had just happened.
Mirha, I think Rnzo is gonna like her, I thought to myself as I was heading to my chambers..
Mirha's POV
Wait!" i shouted, but the stranger was already gone.
As i heard the guards getting closer, i felt a wave of relief wash over me. i shouted out to them, and soon they were peering down at me, their faces etched with concern.
"Lady Mirha, are you okay?" one of the guards asked, as they lowered a rope down to her.
i nodded, still trying to process what had just happened. "Yes, I'm fine. I'm just a bit shaken up."
The guards quickly helped me onto a horse, and one of them mounted behind her to support her as they rode back to the castle. i didn't even know my head was bleeding,
"Hold on, milady," the guard said, his voice firm and reassuring. "We'll get you to the physician right away."
i nodded, trying to stay stable as they rode. i was starting to feel a bit fuzzy, and her head was pounding.
When we arrived at the castle, the guards quickly dismounted and helped me down from the horse. They rushed me to the physician's chambers, where the doctor quickly set to work cleaning and bandaging my wound.
As the physician worked, i asked, "Was there an intruder in the garden? I thought I heard someone speaking, Madish."
The guards exchanged a glance, and one of them replied, "Don't worry, milady. The castle is perfectly safe. We have guards patrolling the grounds at all times. You must have just imagined it."
i frowned, feeling a bit uncertain. i was sure I heard someone speaking, Madish, and i couldn't shake the feeling that these guards knew the person.
But the guards just smiled and reassured me that everything was fine. "The castle is the safest place in the kingdom, milady," one of them said. "You're perfectly safe here."
i nodded, trying to feel reassured. But as she lay there, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, but if they say it's ok, I will let it be.
Gina, on the other hand, returned to the castle, her heart still racing with worry. She went straight to Mirha's quarters, where she found her friend sitting on the bed, looking a bit worse for wear.
Mirha's head was bandaged, and she had a faint smile on her face. "Hello, Gina," she said, her voice weak but cheerful.
Gina's expression changed from worry to annoyance. "Do you find joy in making me worry, Mirha?" she asked, trying to scold her friend.
Mirha looked sheepish, and Gina's anger melted away as she saw the bandage on Mirha's head. "What happened?" she asked, her voice softening.
Mirha told Gina everything, from getting lost in the garden to falling into the well and meeting the stranger who spoke Madish. Gina listened intently, her eyes wide with concern.
When Mirha finished, Gina let out a sigh of relief. "I'm just glad you're safe," she said, smiling. "You need to rest now. I'll tell the others that you're okay."
Gina left Mirha's quarters, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She went to the dining hall, where Kiara and Kanha were having dinner.
"I heard that Mirha was lost," Kiara said, looking up at Gina, "Did you find her? Is she okay?"
Gina smiled, taking a seat at the table. "She's fine. She got lost in the royal garden, chasing after some bunnies. That's all."
Kanha raised an eyebrow, looking disapproving. "That girl ought to learn how to be ladylike. For goodness' sake, she'll have us looked at like fools. It's already enough that we're from the South; we need to fit in and not embarrass her Majesty."
Gina listened patiently, her expression calm. "I'll make sure to speak with Mirha, Kanha. But let's not be too hard on her. We're all still adjusting to life at the castle."
Kiara nodded in agreement, but Kanha just sniffed, looking unconvinced. "The formal introduction to the court is soon," she said. "We need to make sure that Mirha is prepared. We can't have her embarrassing us in front of the entire court."
Gina smiled, trying to reassure Kanha. "Don't worry, my lady. I'll make sure that Mirha is ready. We'll all be perfect ladies, I promise."
As the days passed, Kanha took Gina and Mirha under her wing, teaching them the intricacies of court etiquette and protocol. Kiara, who had received formal training in etiquette, assisted Kanha in guiding the pair.
"Remember, a lady always curtsies with her weight on her right leg," Kanha instructed, as Gina and Mirha practised their curtsies.
"I think I'm getting it!" Gina exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement.
"And don't forget to keep your back straight and your shoulders relaxed," Kiara added, offering her own advice.
Mirha nodded, taking mental notes. "I'll try to remember, Kiara."
As the training progressed, Gina and Mirha grew more confident in their abilities. They began to envision themselves navigating the complexities of court life with ease.
As the ladies-in-waiting finished their training, they began to hear rumors about the upcoming ball, where they would be introduced to the royal court The ball would be attended by the most eligible bachelors in the kingdom, including Lord Tando, Lord Kaisen, and Duke Rnzo.
"I've met them once before, during the coronation," Kanha said, "Lord Kaisen is quite tall and handsome, and Duke Rnzo has a charming smile."
"I remember Lord Tando's strong jawline," Kiara added.
Gina and Mirha looked at each other curiously. "I've never met them before," Gina said. "What are they like?"
Mirha nodded in agreement. "I've heard of their titles, but I don't know much about them."
Kanha smiled. "You'll meet them soon enough. Just remember to curtsy and be polite."
Kanha glanced at Gina and Mirha. "Don't forget, you two need to take your measurements to the seamstress today. She needs to finish your gowns for the ball."
Gina nodded. "I almost forgot, thank you for reminding us, Kanha."
Mirha smiled. "I'm so excited to see our gowns. I've heard the seamstress is the best in the kingdom."
Kiara smiled. "You'll both look lovely, I'm sure. Shall we all go to the seamstress together?"
As they rode in the carriage, Kiara chatted excitedly about the upcoming ball. "I heard Lord Tando is quite handsome. Those piercing eyes and that charming smile..."
Gina smiled politely, but her eyes sparkled with amusement. "You're quite taken with him, aren't you, Kiara?"
Kiara blushed. "Maybe just a little."
Mirha chuckled. "I'm just excited to see everyone's dresses. I've heard the seamstress has outdone herself this time."
The three friends continued their lively conversation as the carriage carried them to the seamstress.
As they arrived at the seamstress's shop, the three friends were greeted by the warm smile of Madame Kamari. "Welcome, ladies! I have your gowns ready for fitting."
Kiara's eyes widened as she saw the beautiful creations. "Oh, Madame Kamari, they're exquisite!"
Gina and Mirha nodded in agreement, admiring the intricate embroidery and delicate fabrics.
Madame Kamari beamed with pride. "I'm glad you like them, ladies. Now, let's get you fitted and make any necessary adjustments."
As the fittings began, Kiara couldn't help but ask Madame Kamari about Lord Tando's attire for the ball. "Do you know what Lord Tando will be wearing, Madame Kamari?"
Madame Kamari smiled slyly. "Let's just say he'll be looking very dashing in his formal attire, Lady Kiara."
Kiara's cheeks flushed with excitement, and Gina and Mirha exchanged amused glances.
meanwhile, back in the Imperial Castle, Kanha was writing to her cousin Majesty.
As Kanha finished writing the letter, she sealed it with a delicate wax stamp bearing the emblem of the Imperial Castle. She smiled to herself, thinking about how much Nailah would love the upcoming ball.
Kanha handed the letter to one of the castle's messengers, a young man with a quick smile and a faster horse. "See that this reaches Her Majesty's hands as soon as possible," Kanha instructed
MEANWHILE IN MALAKA CASTLE.
Nostalgia, Nailah sat in the garden, surrounded by the vibrant flowers that Arvin had sent me. It had been a week since their passionate night, and she hadn't seen him since. But the flowers kept coming, a constant reminder of his presence in her life.
Nailah gently touched the petals of a nearby rose, feeling the softness and delicacy of the flower. It was beautiful, just like the others. Arvin had exquisite taste, she thought to herself.
Where Arvin was. Was he thinking of me? Did he ever think of me? And a thousand more questions ran in the delicate Empress of Èvana's head
Sigh from her lips, feeling a pang of loneliness. It was a feeling she had yet grown accustomed to. It was puzzling.
Nailah's Pov
As I sat in front of the mirror, my maid, Elara, styled my hair into an intricate updo. I watched her reflection, my mind elsewhere.
Arvin stood by the entry, his back to me, his eyes fixed something outside our chambers. He was here...really here, I couldn't help but feel a flutter in my chest as I looked at him. I didn't even know that he came back, and here he was.
"Your Majesty," Elara said, curtsying, "shall I help you into your gown?"
I nodded, and Elara assisted me into the elegant night dress. As she fastened the last button, Arvin turned to face me.
His eyes swept over me, his expression unreadable. For a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of something - desire, perhaps, or interest - but it was quickly extinguished.
"I hope you received the flowers i sent," he said, his voice neutral.
I felt a pang of disappointment. Had I misread the situation entirely? "I did," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant. "But I thought perhaps... you could deliver them personally."
Arvin raised an eyebrow, his expression sceptical. But then, in a movement so subtle I almost missed it, he nodded.
Elara, sensing the tension, discreetly excused herself. I was left alone with Arvin , the silence between us thick and heavy.
Without a word, Arvin strode towards me, his eyes locked on mine. I felt a shiver run down my spine as he reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair behind my ear.
His touch sent a spark of electricity through me, and I knew, in that moment, I was going to lose it
Arvin 's fingers lingered on my skin, sending shivers down my spine. I felt like I was melting into his touch, my heart racing with anticipation.
Without a word, he leaned in, his lips brushing against mine. The kiss was soft and gentle, but it sparked a fire within me. I felt myself responding, my lips parting to deepen the kiss.
Arvin's arms wrapped around me, pulling me close. I felt like I was drowning in his embrace, unable to breathe, unable to think.
We made love, our bodies moving in perfect sync. I felt like I was losing myself in him, like I was becoming one with his body, his soul.
Afterwards, we lay together, our bodies entwined. I felt happy, truly happy, for the first time in a long time.
But as I looked up at Arvin , I saw that his expression was still guarded. I couldn't read his emotions, but I couldn't tell what he was thinking.
And that uncertainty, that doubt, it lingered within me, refusing to be silenced.
Arvin gently extricated himself from my arms, his movements economical and precise. He stood up, his eyes never leaving mine, and began to dress.
"I'll leave you to rest," he said, his voice low and even. "Dinner will be served shortly. Don't let it get cold."
With that, he turned and walked out of the room, leaving me feeling a little bereft and confused.
I lay there for a moment, trying to process what had just happened. Arvin 's words had been polite and courteous even, but they had also been devoid of any real emotion.
I sighed, feeling a pang of uncertainty. What was I to make of Arvin 's behaviour? Was he truly interested in me, or was he just going through the motions?
I pushed the thoughts aside, knowing I had to get ready for dinner. I couldn't let Arvin's enigmatic behaviour ruin my evening. As I reached the dining hall, Arvin was nowhere to be seen, not even Heman.
As expected, he left me here again. I quietly eat. I headed to my chambers.
The following morning, I received a letter from my cousin, Lady Kanha, and my excitement was palpable. The letter informed me that my ladies-in-waiting, including Kanha, were to be formally introduced at the grand ball. I had been looking forward to this event for weeks, and I couldn't wait to attend.
Without hesitation, I sat down at my desk and began to write a letter to Arvin . I informed him of the upcoming ball and my intention to attend. I also expressed my hope that he would accompany me, though I didn't hold my breath.
As I sealed the letter and handed it to my maid to be sent, I felt a sense of trepidation. Would Arvin respond? Would he attend the ball with me? I pushed the thoughts aside and focused on the excitement of the upcoming event.
The ball was going to be a night to remember, and I was determined to make the most of it, with or without Arvin by my side.
