The rain poured heavily outside the small, dimly lit apartment. The ceiling leaked, and the old wooden floor creaked with every step.
He sat on the torn couch, his arms wrapped around his frail body. The cold seeped into his bones, but he didn’t care. What mattered was the small bundle of warmth sleeping beside him.
"𝙈𝙖𝙢𝙖…" A tiny voice murmured, breaking the silence.
Jungkook turned, his tired eyes softening at the sight of his four-and-a-half-year-old son, jihyun . His dark eyes, so much like his father’s, blinked up at him, full of curiosity and concern. His small hand reached out to touch his cheek.

"𝘼𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙖𝙙 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣?" His voice was innocent yet firm, something unusual for a child his age.
Jungkook forced a smile, running his fingers through his jet-black hair. He looked so much like his father . It hurt to see those features, but jihyun was nothing like the man who had broken him. He was his strength, his reason to keep going.

"𝙉𝙤, 𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙮, 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜," he whispers .
jihyun sat up, frowning. Even at his young age, he understood more than he should.

"𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝." His words made Jungkook heart ache.
He had noticed. Of course, he had. He tried so hard to make sure he never went to bed hungry, but there were days when he couldn’t afford enough. She has been working odd jobs—cleaning houses, waiting tables—anything to keep jihyun safe and fed.
Tonight, they had shared the last piece of bread he could afford.

Don’t worry, Mama," jihyun said, placing his tiny hands on his cheeks.

"I will grow up soon and buy you a big house. Then you won't be sad anymore."
Tears filled Jungkook ’s eyes, but he held them back. He couldn’t break in front of his son.

"You don’t have to worry about that, my love. Mama is here, and I will always take care of you."

jihyun , wise beyond his years, only nodded. "Okay, but tomorrow, I will eat less so you can eat more."
Jungkook hugged him tightly, his heart breaking at how selfless his child was. This was their life now—struggling to survive in a world that had turned its back on them. He had lost everything: his father’s love, his home, and the man he had once given his heart to. But she still had his jihun. And for him, he would endure anything.

As he lay down beside him, listening to the rain against the window, he made a silent vow. He would never let jihyun suffer the way he had. he would fight, no matter what. Even if it meant facing the past she had tried so hard to escape.

The sun barely peeked through the cracked window of the small apartment as Jungkook woke up to the sound of jihyun stirring beside him.
His tiny arms wrapped around his waist, holding onto him as if afraid he would disappear. He gently brushed his messy black hair away from his face, planting a soft kiss on his forehead.

He quietly slipped out of bed, careful not to wake him. Their apartment was freezing, the thin walls doing little to keep out the winter chill. Wrapping a worn-out shawl around his shoulders, he walked to the tiny kitchen.
The cabinets were nearly empty, save for a half-full bag of rice and a small container of salt. He sighed, knowing it wouldn't be enough to last the week.
As he boiled water to prepare a thin rice porridge for jihyun , he heard his small footsteps behind him.

"Mama, what are you making?" he asked sleepily, rubbing his cute eyes.

He turned, forcing a smile. "Breakfast, my love."

jihyun climbed onto the old chair, watching him with a serious expression. "Is there enough for you too?"
Jungkook's chest tightened. Even at four and a half, his little son worried about him more than he should. He was a child, yet he had the awareness of an adult. He didn't want him to carry such burdens, but life had left them with no choice.
