CRASHING Into PEARENTHOOD

Chapter 1- A baby!!

I noticed something… unusual. There, in the middle of the couch, was a baby. A real, breathing, tiny human baby.

My first instinct? I froze. My bag slid off my shoulder and hit the floor with a dull thud. My brain went into overdrive, trying to process what I was looking at. Diapers, a little bottle, and a note lay on the coffee table next to the sleeping infant, as if this was a normal scene in my very not-baby-proof apartment.

"Uh… what?" I mumbled to myself, taking hesitant steps closer. The baby was bundled up in a fluffy pink blanket, her little fist gripping the edge of it like her life depended on it. She couldn’t have been older than a few months. Who in their right mind would leave a baby here?

That’s when it hit me like a slap to the face. Damian.

“Damian!” I yelled, panic creeping into my voice. No answer. “Damian, get your ass out here! Why is there a baby in the living room?” Still nothing. Typical.

I carefully picked up the note from the table, my heart pounding as I read the shaky handwriting. "Take care of her. I can't."

Just four words, but they hit like a freight train. My grip on the paper tightened. This had to be a joke, right? A prank Damian cooked up with his buddies? But one look at the baby—her tiny, peaceful face—and I knew this was no joke.

My stomach churned as I glanced back at the open door. Damian wasn’t the most responsible guy in the world, but surely he wouldn’t… right? Right?!

I heard the faint jingle of keys outside, followed by the sound of footsteps. Damian strolled in, a bag of groceries in one hand, looking way too calm for the chaos I’d just walked into.

“Hey, Noah. You’re back,” he said casually, like there wasn’t a literal child sitting in our living room.

I stared at him, wide-eyed. “Damian. There’s a baby. On our couch.”

He raised an eyebrow, setting the groceries down on the kitchen counter. “Yeah, I know. Cute, isn’t she?”

“What the hell do you mean ‘cute’?! Whose baby is this?!” I hissed, my voice rising with every word.

Damian rubbed the back of his neck, avoiding my gaze. “Uh… mine?”

And just like that, my life turned upside down.

chapter 2- A baby!!

And now, here I am, sitting with my roommate... with an actual baby.

The room was thick with an awkward, yet strangely goofy atmosphere.

"So, where’d you get this baby?" Noah asked, his voice tight with disbelief, almost as if it was twisted in concern and confusion.

Noah, clearly worried that Damian might’ve kidnapped someone’s child, glanced at the baby. She had woken up from the noise and was now lying there, completely unbothered, while Noah—despite the tension—was making silly faces at her. The baby gave him a blank, nonchalant stare.

“She... kinda looks like you,” Damian thought to himself. Her hazel-green eyes glistened like little marbles, similar to Noah’s.

Noah sighed, rubbing his temples, still unable to process the situation. He tried to question Damian about the baby’s origins, but Damian was suspiciously tight-lipped.

“Okay, Damian, so this baby is yours. Who’s the mother? And why didn’t you tell me you were dating someone?!”

Damian paused whatever he was fiddling with and finally turned to face Noah. His expression was a mix of hopelessness and something akin to hope.

“That’s because... I’m not.”

Noah blinked, confused. “What do you mean you’re not? So you’re telling me you just hooked up with some random—”

“WHAT THE HELL, NOAH?” Damian snapped, his voice rising in frustration. “DO YOU THINK I’M THAT KIND OF GUY?”

Noah flinched, genuinely startled at Damian’s outburst. He opened his mouth to respond, “I didn’t mean—”

But before he could finish, the baby let out an ear-splitting wail, cutting through the tension in the room.

Damian’s attention snapped back to her. “Ahh, no! Daddy’s sorry. I didn’t mean to yell! I’m sorry, princess. Look—peekaboo!” His voice stuttered nervously as he fumbled to soothe her, clearly clueless about what he was doing.

Noah watched the hopeless scene unfold and felt a pang of guilt. Sure, he did provoke Damian into yelling, but— “Is she hungry?” Noah asked.

“No, I don’t think so,” Damian mumbled, eyes darting between the crying baby and the kitchen. “Wait here—watch her for a sec!”

Before Noah could protest, Damian dashed off to the kitchen, probably to grab the formula he’d bought earlier.

Left alone with the still-crying baby, Noah panicked internally. “Ah, what do I do?” he muttered under his breath. After a brief pause, he reached out to pat her tiny tummy gently. “It’s okay, don’t cry...”

The baby’s cries quieted slightly, and she reached out toward him with her chubby little hands.

“Wait... does she want to be held?” Noah mumbled. He wasn’t unfamiliar with babies. After all, he’d helped care for his younger siblings growing up.

Carefully, he picked her up and held her to his chest, patting her back softly. She let out a few sniffles before settling down, making small, content baby noises.

Noah let out a relieved breath, looking down at her tiny, peaceful face. He didn’t even notice that Damian was standing in the doorway, watching him the entire time.

chapter 3- What happened!!

Noah turned and noticed Damian standing there, holding a baby bottle, watching him quietly. Damian walked over and held out the bottle. Noah glanced at it, surprised by how well it was made.

“She stopped crying,” Damian said with a small smile. “I made the formula.”

Damian reached out to take the baby, but she scrunched up her face and let out a little grumble, clearly unhappy about being moved.

“Ah, it’s okay—give it here,” Noah said, taking the bottle from Damian. He opened the cover, tipped a little milk onto the back of his hand, then tasted it.

Damian furrowed his brows, confused. “What are you doing?”

“Testing the formula,” Noah replied casually, as he started feeding the baby. The toddler eagerly latched onto the bottle, making soft, happy noises.

Damian raised an eyebrow. “Wow, you’re really good at this. You even got her to stop crying.”

“Well, I helped my mom with my siblings a lot,” Noah said nonchalantly.

“Oh yeah?” Damian muttered, watching the baby drink her bottle with adorable determination.

“Aw, she’s so cute,” Noah added, his voice softer now as he admired her tiny, innocent face.

After feeding and burping her, Noah managed to put the baby back to sleep. Once she was settled, he and Damian sat at the kitchen table, the atmosphere finally calm.

“So,” Noah started, folding his arms on the table. “Where did this baby come from, Damian? How did this happen?”

Damian sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. “I don’t know, okay? It all happened so suddenly.”

He paused for a moment before continuing, his voice quieter now. “Do you remember the night I got invited out for drinks after finals ended?”

Noah nodded, raising an eyebrow.

“Well...”

Flashback:

Outside the college, students gathered in groups, chatting about how they did on their finals. Damian was heading for the door when someone called out to him.

“HEY, DAMIAN!”

He turned and saw a group of his acquaintances waving him over.

“Yo, there’s a crazy party tonight at my dad’s club! You wanna come? We’ve got tickets!”

“Nah,” Damian said, shaking his head. “I was planning to stay home tonight.”

“Dude, come on! Exams are over! You deserve to cut loose!” They urged him, one after another.

“Fine,” Damian sighed. “I’ll be there.”

That night, Damian found himself drinking more than he intended. They played endless drinking games, and the night blurred into a haze. The last thing he remembered was stumbling out of the club with a girl before waking up in a hotel room the next morning, his head pounding and his body aching.

“Shit,” Damian muttered, staring at the unfamiliar room. He felt anger bubbling inside him. What the hell happened last night?

He confronted the friends he’d gone out with, but their answers frustrated him further. They told him he’d gotten drunk and left with a blonde girl—“a cute one, to be fair,” one of them had added.

Damian didn’t care about their opinions. He was furious. Did I really lose my V-card to some random stranger? Worse, his mind drifted to Noah. He shook the thought away and told himself to forget about the night.

Months passed, and Damian had buried the incident deep in his mind. Life had returned to normal until one fateful evening when he was heading home.

As he approached his apartment, he noticed someone standing suspiciously by his door, their figure shrouded in a hoodie.

“Hey, are you trying to break in?” Damian shouted, rushing toward them.

The figure startled and clutched something in their hands. Damian grabbed their shoulder, spinning them around. His breath hitched.

“A woman?” he muttered. His eyes flicked to the bundle in her arms. She was holding... something.
