Sweet Aroma

Prologue

"This is your last chance to redeem yourself, young lady," Chrishawn groaned, shaving a white folder on the table. He rested both of his elbows on the edges and tapped the folder, signalling Nic to take it which she immediately did.

She opened it on a wide spread and furrows formed on her forehead. "Son of Mr. Suho Byun, twenty four years old," she read the only information that she thought that would help her find the "Shadow Boss".

She could only bite her lips in frustration. She knew her mission would be hard as heck, but she didn't expect it would be to the extent.

How is she supposed to find someone who has never been seen before? No one even knows how the man looks like; neither any feature that could narrow down their options.

There are millions of men out there who are in their twenties.

"Judging by your reaction, I believe you're having second thoughts, little sister?" Chrishawn scoffed, seemingly mocking. He leaned his back on his swivel chair and crossed his arms.

"Well?"

Nic's lips thinned and drew a deep sigh. "I believe I already told you I'm gonna accept this no matter what it takes?"

Chrishawn sneered. "Very well. Just don't come running back at me when you failed again, are we clear?"

"That's not gonna happen, brother," Nic smiled mirthlessly.

"Are you certain? You haven't flipped to the next pages yet," Chrishawn's thick brows rose.

For a moment, there was twinge in Nic's throat as though it burns.

She slightly pinched the bottom corner of the pages to see five more behind the first one. She slowly flipped the first page over and her eyes wobbled to see human dismembered bodies.

The images were too gruesome to watch that Nic had to cover her mouth to prevent herself from retching.

DarkCrimson is the biggest felony organization in South Korea that runs under the facade of a sanctioned amalgamated company. It runs under the leadership of Mr. Suho Byun who is the chairman of the said endeavor. He was the one who gathered several crooks concealed within DarkCrimson.

Mr. Suho Byun has been sent to jail for multiple times, but was able to get away in all of them as the power and connections he possesses can erase evidences into thin air.

Truly, he has never been caught—not until an unknown group has successfully assassinated him. His death has become a form of mercy for the Korean cops as they thought the murders, abductions, and crimes, will finally stop.

However, things have only gotten worse. Since DarkCrimson is handled by multiple sub-leaders, all of them were interested to take over Mr. Byun's place as the chairman.

War has been set in each sub-leaders' groups. Everything has gone too chaotic that the cops couldn't even do anything but watch not until one fateful day, Mr. Byun's "butler" announced that the rightful successor has finally come and that's no other than Mr. Suho Byun's only son whom no one even knew about.

Since then, he has been running the company behind his father's shadows.

No one knew who he is exactly. He has never shown himself to anyone aside from his butler, thus, he has been nicknamed as the "Shadow Boss".

Then again, the crimes continued, but now women and children have been spared for no good reason.

The only tip that the cops have received is the man is on his twenties—twenty four to be exact. Just like that, the informant disappeared without any trace.

"Twenty four—" Nic whispered.

"T-Twenty e-eight," Quinn stammered between words She could feel her hands shaking, holding their framed wedding photo with both hands.

Her breathings became short; her heart beats a few tics faster—she could already hear the sound of the air entering the pathways to her lungs.

"H-His hair, his eyes," Quinn swilled. "I-It can't be. This can't be!"

"EOMMAAAAA!! EODIE ISSNAYOOO?!"

Quinn flinched which caused the frame to fall down the marble floor; the glass shattered into pieces.

Sean's fast and light footsteps is coming her direction that she had to immediately squat in attempt to scour the shards away, but her son is already standing at the entrance of their room door and behind him stood Seo-Joon.

Her eyes met his and for a moment, the time seem to stopped.

"All this time, I have been living with the person I have been looking for," she thought. "Those eyes—that hair—he looks exactly her."

"Honey, are you okay?"

Her eyes batted when she finally snapped back into reality. She didn't even realize Seo-Joon is already squatting in front of her.

"What happened here? Are you hurt?" His eyes dropped to her hands and checked them for injuries. Once certain that she didn't have any, Seo-Joon looked at her, heaving a sigh of relief.

"Don't scare me like that, I thought you're already bleeding because you seem fazed and..." he paused and squinted his eyes, staring at Nic's lips. "And extremely pale."

"Gwaenchanhayo, eomma?" Sean, who stood behind Seo-Joon, worriedly asked.

"Y-Yes, baby. Eomma is okay," Quinn replied and managed to smile at her two-year old son.

"Eomma will just clean this up and we'll make your favorite snacks."

"It's okay," Seo-Joon shook her hands, so she looked back at him. He is wearing that usual sweet smile of his.

"Leave this to me and after I'm done, I'll do Sean's snacks myself. I'll be quick, I promise. You look like you need some rest, so that's what you are going to do."

Seo-Joon's sweet smile widened and stretched Quinn's hands towards Sean which the little man cheerfully took.

"Take care of, eomma, okay? And get eomma a glass of water, too, because she is not feelingw well," Seo-Joon pouted through his baby voice, so Sean would understand what he is trying to say even more.

"Oh! Poor-poor, eomma," Sean patted Nic's head and carefully pulled her up; she had no choice but to follow.

Before she could even step outside, she turned to look at Seo-Joon and a grain of tear fell down her eyes, and rolled down her cheek.

The pieces that she has been gathering all together for almost four years has finally been solved, but she no longer knew if she could look at it in a full picture or smash it down into smaller pieces in order to save the family she built with a ruthless murderer.

Eui Jung, a forty-three-year-old woman who lives in a province far away from Seoul, was diagnosed of two rare genetic conditions known as Albinism and Sectoral Heterochromia. Albinism made her skin and hair extremely white, and Sectoral Heterochromia left her eyes with two different iris colors. One is fully blue and the other one's partly brown and blue.

Undeniably, she got pregnant at the age of sixteen in a one-nightstand and abandoned her son to its father. The child inherited her genetic conditions. Indeed, he is an albino, but had full Heterocromia iridum at least that's what Eui said.

After a very long run, Quinn has finally reached the finish line and that's to catch the person she has been running side by side with... all along.

Quinn immediately called her friend, Haidee, and sneaked Sean with her before Seo-Joon could finish cleaning. He's a clean freak, so it would really take him a while to finish what he was doing even if he said he'd be over it instantly.

"Where's Sean?" Seo-Joon asked as he placed the vacuum on its rightful place after cleaning everything.

He looked from side to side before he sat on the couch in front to where Quinn is. She was only holding a white folder, eyes meandering down the cold floor.

"Honey? Is there anything wrong?"

Seo-Joon's soft and innocent voice made Quinn's heart sank. Never in her entire life she'd think that something like this would ever come into their lives—between her and her husband.

Now that she thinks of it, everything about them is a lie after all—from the very beginning, every single time, right up to the very moment where they sat.

"Hey, honey? Why aren't you talking?" Seo-Joon's voice sounded worried.

Her teeth gritted; she couldn't look at him. Her tears might not be able to hold on if she does. She knows those worries aren't real. None of those are; the care, the love, the affection—everything's only for a show.

Quinn heaved a deep sigh and tossed the white folder on the table. Seo-Joon was quick to react and took it; the moment he flipped it open, his eyes slowly grew into circles.

He felt as though something's pounding against his chest. His lips went pale and his tongue seems to be stuck at the back of his throat—he couldn't speak.

He was only left staring at the photo of the mother he never had.

"I assume you knew Mrs. Eui Jung," Quinn asked, eyes still pinned on the floor. Seo-Joon can't look at her either.

Everything's not adding up for him. How did his wife got this crucial information? Why did she dug into his past? And judging by how the way she talks, it is evident that she knows something more and up to something he couldn't figure out just yet.

"Y-Yes, why'd you ask, hon?" Seo-Joon tried to keep his tone as normal as possible and looked at Quinn.

Her eyes finally shifted to him. "How are you related to her?"

"A relative of mine," Seo-Joon smiled. "That'll explain the white hair and the e-eyes."

It took Quinn seconds to react; she nodded. "Even though you told me you never have any relatives with the same condition."

Seo-Joon felt like a bucket of freezing water has poured on him and that very moment, he knew he fucked up. He closed his eyes and sighed in defeat. No one knows Quinn more than him, and by that, he knew he don't have any second chances to fool her.

Quinn stood up and turned her back against Seo-Joon to muster all the volition she had; within a split second, she took the gun from the holster hidden on her back underneath her baggy shirt and aimed it towards Seo-Joon, who had his gun aimed to her as well.

Their eyes met, but this time, it's no longer a look of love, but rather a look of abhorrent.

Family

"Sean, can you not move around that quick?!" Seo-Joon could no longer hide the annoyance in his voice as he was chasing his son, Sean. It has been ten minutes since he took his bath, but he was still unable to get him dressed up for school.

"Appa cannot catch me! Appa cannot catch me!" Sean taunted, sprinting from one couch to another.

Seo-Joon could only shave a hand across his face in exasperation "Maybe we should just wait for your mom," he groaned, massaging his temples.

"Eh? Not ready yet?" Quinn asked the moment she stepped out of the bathroom. She was loosening the adjustable belt of her bathrobe and crossed her arms, eyeing Seo-Joon who is already dressed for work.

"Hon, I'm sorry," he turned to look at his grimacing wife, pouting. "I really can't control our son. He doesn't really like me."

Quinn chuckled. "Hon, that's how kids are," she walked near him and tapped his cheek. "Sean loves you, of course. You're his father. Maybe he's just—"

"Stubborn as you?" Seo-Joon tittered, seemingly mocking his wife.

"That's a matter-of-factly, I can't even argue," Quinn chuckled. "Now get yourself ready instead, Doctor Oh. You will have another long day today," her voice suddenly dropped. "And can you not brush your hair or wear any perfume? Will that make you less attractive?" She asked. "No? How about you wear just fair brown contact lenses on?"

Seo-Joon chortled. He faced Quinn properly and held her hands. "Honey, I told you; I am yours and only yours, okay? You trust me, right?" His brows rose.

"Of course, hon. I trust you with all my heart. It's just that, I don't trust them, most especially your patients who keep on pretending they have heart diseases just to see you, for the love of—," Quinn grimaced, eyes twitching in vexation. Her breathings became deeper and Seo-Joon had to drop her shoulders to calm her down.

"Relax, no matter how many of them in the line, you will still be my one and only choice."

"Wow! That sounds somewhat insulting," Quinn said sardonically and Seo-Joon laughed.

"Why? Do you like me to stay home and be a house husband instead? For your information, Mrs. Oh, I don't wanna let my queen work alone for this family. Not on my watch."

Quinn smiled, ruffling her husband's silky, white hair as she stare into his magical eyes. Seo-Joon Oh is truly a unique person. Astonishingly, he has been born with two rare genetic conditions which separate him from the rest: Albinism and Heterochromia Iridum.

The former is a condition that lessens the quantity of melanin pigment in the eyes, hair, and skin, while the latter makes a person's eyes in different iris colours. In Seo-Joon's case, his left eye is sky blue and his right eye is light brown.

His condition alone already makes him stand out among the crowd, but then, he is also extremely good-looking, smart, and talented. He can sing, dance, and play a lot of musical instruments. He even has his own fan base on social media and he's no celebrity, so Quinn personally thinks that trust is not the main issue.

"Alright, hon. But you'll still see me in your office from time to time, you get that?"

"Of course," Seo-Joon gave her a quick peck on her forehead. "I'll wait for you, okay?"

Quinn playfully gave him an informal salute. "Aye, sir."

"Hahaha that's cute. I love you, honey," he turned against his heel to look at Sean who's already lying down on his stomach on the couch inside their room. "And you too, buddy. Take care of eomma, okay?"

"Ne, appa!" Sean playfully raised a thumb up.

"Geez haha," he mumbled.

"I love you, too, honey. Take care."

"I will," Seo-Joon took his coat on the coat rack and left.

After taking good care of Sean, Quinn immediately drove him to school. She manages her own famous restaurant, so she owns her time, unlike Seo-Joon who is a public servant; he needs to be at work in a specific allotted time. Medicine is his passion and no one is entitled enough, not even Quinn herself, to tell him what to do.

"Eomma, annyeong!" Sean beamed, waving his mom goodbye with both hands.

"Sean, annyeong!" Quinn also did the same as she watches her son turn against his heel, and walked inside the gates with one of their maids.

She fixed her peach coat resting above her shoulders as she stood up straight. The white Grecian Elegance top she's wearing underneath matched her peach pencil skirt bottoms and white knee high boots.

She left her sleek fine-layered hair down with a white stylish cat eye glasses placed on top of her head.

Her eyes dropped on the gold watch around her right wrist.

6:30 AM, the time read.

"Thirty minutes left," Quinn muttered. "I can still make it."

"That's Dr. Oh's wife. No wonder he married her."

"Yeah! She looks so young and gorgeous."

Quinn's brows twitched and a grin curved on her cherry lips. As soon as she turned to look at the three women talking meters away from her, the grin plastered on her face a while ago evaporated into an innocent smile.

"Omo! She's looking at us," one of the women gasped almost in a shout while the other two are trying to stop her from being so noticeable.

Quinn smiled to them for the last time before heading back to her car. A sigh of relief escaped her lips the very moment she stepped inside.

She took her press powder out of her expensive white trapeze purse to check her makeup and added more to make herself alluring, but not to the extent as she is planning to drop by the hospital to where Seo-Joon is working to check what kind of patients her husband have this time.

She wants to look her best every time she visits to intimidate the women who kept on tailing Seo-Joon despite them knowing the gentleman is already married.

Quinn parked her black Ferrari Laferrari beside Seo-Joon's silver Gordon Murray. Truly, the two are living a simple life as a couple, but they have a thing with cars that most people knew about.

"Oh! Thy highness Mrs. Quinn Oh is finally here," Dr. Jonathan Abad, one of Seo-Joon's colleagues, greeted her when she passed by a nurse's station.

"Hey, doc," Quinn winked, flipping her long hair.

"Woah! You looked stunning, Mrs. Oh," Sherry, a nurse, had to bend over the counter to look at Quinn who cat walked her way towards Seo-Joon's office.

"As always and as I should be, love," she smirked before knocking the door thrice and entered, leaving the people who saw her stunned by her remarkable presence.

Her eyes instantly squinted when she saw a woman whom she thinks in her twenties; she's sitting in front of Seo-Joon. Seeing Quinn's reaction, he giggled, shaking his head.

The two seems to be having only a patient-practitioner conversation, so Quinn behaved herself on the couch a little farther to where the two are. Seo-Joon's office is quite spacious and extremely white—everything's white; the floor, the ceiling, the curtains, the furniture—everything—including him, so Quinn had to wear her glasses on.

She crossed both of her arms and legs, and looked straight to the woman which kept Seo-Joon from chuckling every time his eyes met hers behind her tainted glasses. He could clearly tell that his wife's already cursing the woman to death, so he had to end the session as soon as possible.

"Thank you so much, Doctor. I'll come back as soon as possible—oh," the woman took a step back when she saw Quinn cocking a brow. "Good morning, Mrs. Oh. I'm sorry I didn't notice you right away."

Quinn's lips thinned and stood up, arms still crossed. "Apology accepted. Now, if you have nothing else to do here, you may leave. I still have important matters to talk with my husband," her voice remained flat and emotionless.

To stop himself from laughing, Seo-Joon had to cover his mouth with one hand. He was only standing behind the woman who immediately excused herself outside the office. The moment she's gone, she removed her glasses.

The Man

"How was that?" She grinned, twitching her brows. "She won't be coming back again, will she?"

Seo-Joon who still had his hand covering his mouth shook his head once again. He slowly walked towards Quinn and stopped in front of her.

"You do realize you are risking my credibility and my job, right?"

Quinn placed her glasses back on her head. "Yes, I do. That's my objective."

Seo-Joon scrubbed both hands across his face. "Hon, you know this is—."

"Your passion, I know," Quinn cut him off. "And I was just kidding like I always do."

"And my patients don't know about that—whatever! Come here, you," Seo-Joon groaned and pulled her for a hug. "My wife's being soooo annoying again," he carefully pat her head.

"And that's why you loved me, right?"

"No—aww!" Seo-Joon yelped when Quinn pinched his waist. He took a step back, arms still wrapped around her. "I was just joking, geez!" His lips pooched. "When will you head to the restaurant?"

"Minutes from now?" Quinn replied in askance.

"Make it five."

Quinn's brows rose when Seo-Joon placed his lips against hers. She thought it would only be a quick and light kiss when his lips started moving in a slow, orgasmic manner.

Seo-Joon moved away and looked at her in the eyes, cupping both of her cheeks with his slender fingers. Quinn knew what those looks mean and she started grinning.

"I've been meaning to do this with you before we parted ways earlier, but we didn't have the time," he whispered seductively and she gasped when his right hand slide down her right shoulder, slipping off her coat.

"Hon, what are you doinggg?" Quinn squealed softly, stopping his hand in the middle of her right arm. "One of your patients might catch us like this. It will be too awkward," she batted her eyes a split second faster than usual.

"But I thought you want each of them to know who my beautiful wife is," Seo-Joon bent down and started kissing her neck. "And I want them to know either," he whispered, breathing right on her skin that she had to inhale a lungful of air to stop herself from doing something out of context.

"Stop it," she giggled, carefully pushing him away. "You know we don't do silent sex here, Mr. Oh, and I don't wanna let anyone hear that or they might come after the orgasm you're always giving me. I might turn into a murderer pero, por Dios, sin engaños."

Seo-Joon had only chortled when Quinn made a sign of the cross, looking all innocent.

"Hahaha goodness, hon. You don't have to blurt it out like that, damn! Hahaha."

"Whatever," Quinn pooched her lips out and took a step forward to fix Seo-Joon's white coat. "But, I'm telling you you this; once I see, heard, or even feel something that you are touching another woman other than me, I'd really turn into a vicious monster--"

Quinn cut herself off when Seo-Joon planted a kiss on her lips once again. This time, it was indeed quick. He then held her hands and looked at her closely.

"Hon, I promise you," he started, eyes shifting into her right and left eye. "I might have done foolish things, but I'd never do anything that would shatter your heart. You trust me on that, right?"

Quinn was not able to answer right away. What Seo-Joon said sounded questionable for no particular reason.

It is not the first time he asked her to trust him neither is the first time that he promised her the same thing, but it might be something in his voice that sent chills to her body or the way he looks at her makes her soul turn cold.

"Hon? Are you okay?" Seo-Joon's question snapped her back to reality and she immediately nodded.

"Y-Yes, and of course, I trust you with all my heart."

Seo-Joon smiled. "That's what I wanna hear. Now get going, it's almost time for you to be at work, Mrs. Manager Oh, madam, ma'am. And expect me to be home early today to get myself some of this."

Quinn gasped when Seo-Joon pulled her tops and bra up, and licked her right nipple in a matter of second. He then shove them down as if nothing happened.

"Damn it," she could only whisper coarsely as she could already feel her heart beating a few ticks faster. Seo-Joon sure is teasing her to make things hotter later on.

Before she could even calm herself down, someone had already knocked and entered the office. It's one of Seo-Joon's patients, Miss Enrique.

Quinn's coat is still hanging loose on her shoulders with her tops completely out of of order, showing obvious intense phenomenon.

Miss Enrique only stood at the door quite, surprised. "Uhm... d-did I come too early, doc?" She stuttered and when Quinn realized things, she immediately wore her bitch face and glasses once again.

"You're just in time, darling," she smirked. "We just finished," she turned to look at Seo-Joon who's suppressing his laughter. "I'll see you later at home, honey. Don't forget to buy some wine to spice things up."

After that, she left with a grin plastered on her face.

It was around 7:20 AM when she reached the restaurant, not the one that she owned, but the one she and Christopher Clay Whitlock will meet.

Her eyes immediately saw him as soon as she entered and the moment he saw her, a wide smile plastered on his face.

"It's been a while, Mr. Whitlock," Quinn greeted when she sat down in front of him.

"Yes," Christopher beamed. "You looked prettier every time we meet," his voice went low and soft, just enough for Quinn to hear.

The man only wore a white V-neck shirt, black fitted jeans, and white sneakers, but still looks so expensive--might be because of his cool wolf cut hairstyle, well-formed Autralian physical appearance.

"You never change," Quinn giggled and placed her glasses on the table. Suddenly, their auras changed. "So, what do we have now?"

Christopher pressed his lips together and handed her a white folder which she immediately took and opened in a wide spread.

"Those are the only information I have gathered for the past six months of investigating," he started. "Unfortunately, nothing's leading us to somewhere."

Quinn's lips thinned. She closed the folder and placed it down the table. "It's okay, I haven't even gathered anything either. This person is worse than ghosts. It doesn't leave anything; no footprints, no fingerprints. No—nothing as though we're chasing thin air."

"I'm so sorry. If only I am like Chrishawn, I would have already taken you away from this mess."

Quinn looked up to meet Christopher's welling eyes. "No, it's not your fault," she reached for his hands on top of the table and held them. "And I wouldn't like it if you become like him. Who would be left to look after me?"

Christopher chuckled and placed a hand on top of hers. "I promise. I'll make this fast, so we could be together again and so that I can get to know my brother-in-law and my nephew of course."

"And so that I no longer have to lie," Quinn suspired.
