In the farmland of Achilleas, where the sun rises daily with new rays and hopes and painted the sky with its colors, in Emily's life nor there were new rays or hopes everything seems falling for her , Emily lived with her grandparents. Two and half months ago her parents died in a fatal car accident and then she was forced to return to her village because she never wanted to go to her village even on vacations when her parents plan a trip to her grandparents house she always thinks how to make them ( her parents) convince not to go and she also managed to convince them (her parents) but for her mother's sake sometimes she had to go. So , now also in spite of living with her grandparents , her grief still lingered like a thick fog on her.
Emily felt trapped , as the days passed by in her grandparents' house she felt more and more unfamiliar with them. Her grandmother is overprotective to her as after losing her own daughter now only her granddaughter left with her and now she wants to keep Emily always before her eyes but her overprotection suffocated Emily and her grandfather disapprove of her music, clothes, etc.calling them "reckless influences". At least when she came before to visit her grandparents her parents were always with her and her grandparents were not much like that but now her grandparents also changed and there was no one for her, she is all alone enduring everything all by herself. She knew her grandparents meant well so she never says anything to them and keeps everything to herself with a smile on her face . She sometimes wants to escape this suffocating house,to feel alive again but then she thinks of her grandparents' happiness and stops herself from having such kinds of thoughts but in reality her grandparents' behaviour only makes her feel further away from them.
She feels sad as the freedom and joy she once had with her parents which now she has completely lost. Loneliness in her grandparents' house , where she's misunderstood scattered her .Whenever she thinks she is living happily now with her grandparents with their non - ending love for her then after they do something that makes her disheartened only. She doesn't want to worry about her grandparents about her so she never says or complains about anything to them because in spite of everything she also loves her grandparents very much they are now only for her and for them she is only to them. But then also whenever she feels discomfort from her grandparents or anything else with them she just silently runs away to some place where she can be alone sometime with herself and with her parents memories there she feels relieved for sometime from everything but again when she feels comfortable for sometime, sunset painted the sky with its warm hues ( there was not warmness in her heart) she have to return to her house (grandparents) not willingly .
One day, in the silent hours before dawn, Emily slipped out of her grandparents' house , dawn to the solitary comfort of Som's lake shore - her favourite place walking alone by the lake, drawing in the sand - a heart with names (her parents'),she felt like someone is approaching her so when she looked up to see a boy about her age with tears brimming in his eyes. Their eyes lock - tears and understanding exchanged silently. He simply said "Hi" with a soft tone, followed by sitting beside her. Simple yet profound - he sits, and silence becomes comfortable. "You look sad..."- observing his pain openly she asked. A gentle observation - he feels seen. "You look sad too..." - reflecting her observation back. A nod and a gentle question - her heart opens up. "My parents...they died two and half months ago" - Tears stream down her face - he gently wraps his arms around her.
They hold each other, lake water lapping softly, as they share complete silence and hearts beating one. Minutes pass, tears dry slowly, and she leans back to gaze at him.
Their eyes lock, and he whispers: "Want to walk with me?". A gentle invitation - she nods softly. Conversation flows easily - they discover shared interests. They stroll along the lake's edge, sunset unfolding behind them and laughter echoes across the lake. His eyes lock into hers - affection. He asks silently with his gaze... "Your smile..."- His voice trails off mesmerized by her smile. Then, he asks with a grin: "Walk you home?"- They stroll through roads, comfortable silence between them.
Upon reaching her door, he turns gently to face her and softly whispers to her "I'm really glad I met you...". Sincere whisper - her heart swells with affection.
She smiles softly, whispering back:"Me to..." - eyes locked on him. He smiles and turns to leave, but pauses - turns back for one last glance...
She's still standing there, smiling - he mouths:"Sleep tight"- sweet goodbye this word lingers in her heart.
She watches him disappear into the evening glow, feeling dreamy. The door closes softly behind her - she leans against it, smiling...
Just then, her grandma appeared and curiosity etched on her (grandmother's) face. "Emily, why the smile?", eyeing her granddaughter's radiant expression.
Emily's instinct is to hide the thing about meeting with a boy beside the lake, so she pushes off the door, and says: I have encountered something funny, attempting a casual tone to deflect further questioning and Grandma also didn't thought much as it is already going to be dinner time and his grandfather will be home soon, then only Emily breathes internally - crises averted, the boy remains her secret... for now. Emily starts setting the dinner table to avoid any suspicioun. As she places the last fork, Emily's gaze wanders out the window, seeing grandpa is coming. So, she told grandma that grandpa is home. Grandma goes to help grandpa meanwhile alone she (Emily) recalls his (the boy's) bright smile, warm eyes, and effortless conversation by carrying all dishes to the table. Grandparents enters, during dinner Emily behaved normally so that her no one suspect anything about her. After dinner she went to her room, lay in bed, and thought of the boy but then she wanted to brush away the memories of the boy by telling herself it was just a friendly conversation and nothing more as whenever she hopes for anything it goes to vain.
The next morning, Emily woke up, still trying to shake off thoughts of the boy.
She starts her day with routine chores: feeding chickens, watering plants, helping Grandmother with breakfast, etc.
As she sweeps the porch, Emily's grandfather asks her to go to the market and fetch some fresh bread for evening snacks. Emily walked through the bustling colourful stalls selling fresh produce, flowers and herbs. Local artisans displaying handmade crafts, jewelry, and pottery. Bakers offering freshly baked bread, pastries and sweet treats. Cheesemongers and butchers providing gourmet cheeses and meats. The market atmosphere is lively and welcoming, filled with villagers and farmers chatting with customers and upbeat background music featuring local musicians and as she turned a corner, Emily's eyes landed on a cozy bakery shop named Oldy Bakery Shop'. The aroma of freshly baked bread from that shop enveloped her, and Emily's gaze met someone in the shop, the boy(whom she met at the lake), he was expertly arranging pastries in the display case at the other side.
Their eyes locked briefly when the boy saw her, after doing his task.
Emily felt a flutter in her chest as she approached the shop.
The baker, an old man with a kind face, asked Emily: "What can we get for you?" Emily smiled politely at the old man and said:"I'll take a whole wheat loaf please, Freshly baked if possible."
The old man nodded and handed her a warm loaf straight from the oven.
"That'll be 5 dollars. My servant Max here can ring you up."
Emily turned to Max(excited to know his name), who was already standing at a side, his eyes meeting hers briefly before he focused on the transaction.
As Max rang up the purchase, Emily felt a spark of electricity between them, but she maintained her casual demeanor.
"Here you go," Max said, handing her the change with his fingers brushing against hers.
Emily felt a flutter but quickly pulled her back, taking the bread and saying: Thanks. Smells great here.
Max watched her turn to leave, then called out softly:
"Emily"
Emily turned back around curiosity sparkling in her eyes.
"Yes?" she asked softly.
Max(now he also knows her name) smiled slightly. "You dropped this," he said holding up a napkin with her name written on it. She walked back towards him, her face inches from his as she took the napkin. Then she swiftly turned around and exited the bakery, leaving Max staring after her with a hint of a smile.
Once outside, Emily felt her heart racing and her cheeks flushing so, for once last she turned her back to see Max but she didn't realise that after she left the shop the shop filled with customers and now she is not able to see him but she was happy that she knows his name. So, she took a deep breath, composing herself before heading back to her grandparent's house with the freshly baked bread.
