The wedding ceremony was a grand affair, but to Taehyung, it felt like a farce. He stood beside Jungkook, his new wife, but it wasn’t the celebration of love that he had always dreamed of. No, this marriage was one of convenience. Forced by his family, he had no say in it. His eyes didn’t even linger on Jungkook's face; they were fixed ahead, lost in his thoughts.
Jungkook, on the other hand, sat still in his place, his gaze unfocused as he stared at the world around him. His expression was blank, devoid of any emotion. He wasn’t the kind of person who talked much, and for him, the marriage was more of a cage than a union.
They were the perfect pair of strangers, sharing a home, but living as though they were miles apart. Their conversations, if they happened, were brief and shallow.
Jungkook’s silence was suffocating to Taehyung. It wasn’t that Jungkook was mean or unkind—far from it. He simply didn’t speak, and the silence between them weighed heavily on Taehyung's chest.
They lived in the same room, yet it felt like they were in two different worlds. Taehyung could feel Jungkook's presence beside him but never acknowledged it.
Jungkook, ever patient and understanding, never tried to push Taehyung. Jungkook never asked for his attention, never made demands. His quiet nature was both comforting and unnerving for Taehyung.
Days turned into weeks, and still, nothing changed. Taehyung would come home from his busy day, and there Jungkook would be—sitting quietly, as if he had no life of his own. He never disturbed him(Tae). Never made a sound unless absolutely necessary. He would prepare Taehyung's meals with care, keep the house neat, and take care of everything in the background without him noticing.
One evening, as Taehyung sat on the balcony, looking out at the city lights, his thoughts turned to Jungkook. Why did he never speak? Why did he never ask him to come closer? What was he thinking behind those calm, unreadable eyes?
The truth was, Jungkook wasn’t the cold-hearted person he seemed. He had been forced into this marriage just as much as Taehyung had. Jungkook's family had struck a deal with Taehyung's one, and Jungkook was merely a pawn in a game he never wanted to play. But he couldn’t leave. He didn’t want to be a burden. He didn’t want to make things difficult for Taehyung. So, he stayed silent, hoping that one day, things would change. He believed that if he was patient, his new husband would eventually understand him.
That night, as Jungkook silently handed him a cup of tea, Taehyung’s frustration finally broke through. He couldn’t stand it anymore—the silence, the distance between them.
“Why don’t you talk to me?” Taehyung asked, his voice softer than he intended. “Why do you just... stay quiet all the time?”
Jungkook froze, his hand pausing mid-air. His eyes met Taehyung's, but he didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he set the tea down on the table and sat beside Taehyung.
“I... I was forced into this marriage, Taehyung,” he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. “Just like you.”
Taehyung’s heart skipped a beat. The words hit him harder than he had expected. Forced into this marriage? He had assumed Jungkook had been indifferent, but now Taehyung realized that Jungkook was in the same situation as him.
“I didn’t want this either,” Jungkook continued, his eyes cast down. “But I promised myself I’d give this marriage a chance. I thought that maybe, if I could stay quiet and not disturb you, you would... maybe see me for who I really am.” he paused, his hands trembling slightly. “I wanted to make you happy, Taehyung.”
For the first time since the wedding, Taehyung really saw Jungkook. Not as a stranger, not as the quiet, distant person he appeared to be, but as someone who had been trapped in a situation just like him. Jungkook was doing everything he could to make their marriage work, despite the circumstances.
Taehyung swallowed hard, his chest tightening as a sense of guilt washed over him. He had been so caught up in his own frustration that he had never stopped to think about how Jungkook felt.
“You’ve been trying to make me happy?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Jungkook nodded, his gaze softening. “But... why? I never gave you any reason to believe I cared.”
“Because,” Jungkook said, his voice steady but filled with emotion, “I wanted to give this marriage a chance. I didn’t want to just exist in the same house with you. I wanted to try... to make things better.”
Taehyung sat in stunned silence, the weight of Jungkook's words settling over him. Slowly, something began to shift inside him. The anger, the frustration, the cold indifference—it all started to fade. In its place, something softer, warmer began to grow.
He had never considered that Jungkook had his own feelings, his own hopes for their life together. He had assumed Jungkook was cold, unemotional, distant, but now he saw Jungkook in a completely different light. He wasn’t just silent; he was patient, understanding, and strong in his own way.
“Jungkook,” Taehyung whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “I never knew... I never realized... I’m sorry.”
Jungkook gave a small smile, though it was faint. “It’s okay, Taehyung. I never expected you to understand right away.”
But Taehyung had begun to understand, and that understanding became the first step toward something more. He found himself paying more attention to Jungkook, noticing the little things he did—the way Jungkook always made sure he had everything he needed, the quiet strength in Jungkook's every action. Slowly, Taehyung found himself drawn to Jungkook.

And then, one evening, as Taehyung sat beside Jungkook on the couch, watching the sunset, he felt a pull in his chest—a desire to see Jungkook's smile, to see him truly happy.
“Jungkook,” he said, his voice soft and gentle, “I want to make you smile. You never do.”
Jungkook looked up at him in surprise, his heart racing. “What do you mean?”
“Just... smile for me. Please.” Taehyung’s words were filled with sincerity, and Jungkook could feel the warmth in them.
It was a slow process, but over time, Taehyung learned to appreciate the little things—Jungkook’s quiet smile when Taehyung did something unexpected, the way he would blush when Taehyung complimented him, the moments when Jungkook would laugh quietly at something Taehyung said. His silence no longer felt cold; it felt comforting. And soon, Taehyung realized that he had fallen for his—quiet, patient, strong Jungkook.
One evening, as they stood under the stars, Taehyung took Jungkook's hand in his, his heart full. “Jungkook, I’m sorry for the way I treated you,” he said, his voice steady with emotion. “I want to be with you. I want to make this marriage work. I-I want to l-love you.”
Jungkook’s eyes filled with tears, a smile finally breaking through his usually calm expression. “I-I too l-love you, T-Taehyung,” Jungkook whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
And at that moment, surrounded by the quiet of the night, Taehyung knew that this marriage—once born out of obligation—had become something real. Something beautiful.
They had learned to understand each other, to love each other in ways they never thought possible. And as the days passed, their bond grew stronger, their love deeper. They were no longer strangers sharing a home. They were partners, heart and soul, learning the language of love without words.
Together, they were silent no more.
