Liam opened his eyes, gasping for air as if surfacing from a deep, dark ocean.
The last thing he remembered was a car crash, metal screeching against metal, and the blinding headlights of an oncoming truck.
But this... this was different. He was no longer in his world.
The world around him was blurry, hazy and yet there was something eerily familar about it.
his lungs burned, struggling to fill with air as he sat up abruptly, hands pressing against the cold, surface beneath him.
His mind hazy as if emerging from a long disorienting sleep. The room he found himself in was neither lavish nor modest, but rather one of quiet comfort.
Liam blinked, gasping for air.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
Where... am I?
He looked around again still slightly disoriented
He gripped his head as the last thing he remembered replayed in his head.
The crash metal screeching, the blinding lights of an oncoming truck. He had been on the road, speeding through the night, trying to outrun the weight of his past. But that didn't explain why he was here now.
His reflection in the glass caught his attention.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
I look younger...
The face that stared back at him was unmistakably his but there was a softness to it, a look of innocence that felt foreign.
His eyes were the same dark, searching but they lacked the weight that had burdened him in his previous life.
His hair darker and slightly longer than he remembered, framed his face in a way that made him look like a stranger.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
"What's going on?"he thought to himself.
His hand instinctively reaching up to touch his face, as if trying to confirm that it was really him.
His fingers trembled as they brushed across his skin.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
"This isn't right!?"
Liam Ashford (Mc)
"It's not possible."
He stood slowly, wobbling for a moment before regaining his balance.
His body felt strange like it belonged to someone else. Younger, sure but stronger too.
He didn't feel the same weight of the world he'd carried before but instead a sense of latent power like he was meant to do something important. But what?
This room seemed too comfortable and cozy for someone of his background. It was too cozy for the humble life he remembered.
One of cramped apartments and quiet streets.
The furniture in the room was practical but tasteful, a sturdy wooden bed with a plain, navy blue quilt, its edges slightly frayed with time. A small, polished wooden desk sat against the wall, cluttered with a few books and a flickering candle. On the desk, there was a single chair, its cushion worn but still comfortable. A simple wardrobe stood nearby, its doors slightly ajar, revealing neatly folded clothes inside, nothing too extravagant, but certainly well-kept.
The floor beneath his feet was made of smooth stone, warm to the touch, as though it had absorbed the sunlight filtering through the window. The only decoration was a small rug in muted tones, and a few framed sketches hanging on the walls, their subjects mostly landscapes and buildings of the city.
Despite the simplicity, there was a sense of order here, a feeling that the room had been well cared for. It didn’t feel impersonal or cold, but neither did it feel lived-in. It was as if someone had prepared this space for him, though he couldn’t understand why.
Liam stood up, his legs unsteady beneath him, and took a cautious step toward the window. Outside, the city sprawled beneath a grey sky, its spires and rooftops reaching for the heavens. There were no sounds of bustling traffic or crowded streets, but there was life, just a quiet hum in the distance, as if the city was waiting.
His gaze returned to the room. It was unfamiliar, yet he couldn’t shake the feeling that he had been here before, or that he was meant to be here. A thousand questions filled his mind, but for now, all he could do was stand still and try to make sense of this place, this strange, new life that seemed to have unfolded before him.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
"This isn't possible," he repeated to himself.
A sense of dread creeping over him. But the longer he stood in the room, the more his mind seemed to settle into this new reality.
He swallowed hard, pushing away the panic that threatened to overwhelm him. He had been in situations like this before uncertain, alone, questioning everything. But this... this was different. This world felt unfamiliar, yet there was a sense of inevitability about it, as if he had always been meant to be here.
A soft knock at the door interrupted his thoughts. He froze. Someone was outside. Without thinking, he hurried to the door, barely managing to steady himself as his new body instinctively moved with more grace than he thought possible.
The door creaked open to reveal a tall woman, her pale skin and dark, attire making her appear almost ghostly in the dim light. Her eyes, sharp and calculating, studied him for a moment before she spoke.
???
“You’ve awakened,” she said in a voice that carried an edge of authority.
Her tone wasn’t one of surprise, but of expectation.
???
“It’s time for you to understand what this world is.”
Liam’s heart skipped a beat. There was something in her gaze, something ancient and knowing, that made him hesitate. She knew something about him, something he didn’t understand yet.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
“Where am I?” His voice sounded foreign, as though he hadn’t spoken in years.
???
"This is your new home.”
Her eyes softened for just a moment, almost as though she was offering comfort.
???
“And your new life begins today.”
Liam Ashford (Mc)
“New life?” he repeated, his voice hollow.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
“What are you talking about?"
Liam Ashford (Mc)
I....I was just...
???
“The past is gone,” she interrupted, her gaze hardening slightly.
???
“What matters now is the future, and the role you are destined to play in it.”
Liam Ashford (Mc)
Destined?
He had no idea what she was talking about, but there was an undeniable weight to her words. He was destined to play a part in something, but what? And why did it feel like the answer was just beyond his reach?
???
“Come,” she said, motioning for him to follow.
???
“There is much to discuss.”
Liam hesitated for a moment, a thousand questions racing through his mind. But in the end, he nodded, allowing her to lead him through the halls, uncertain of what awaited him or who he truly was in this strange, new world.
But one thing was clear: he had been reborn for a reason. And whatever that reason was, it was bound to change everything.

I'm just gonna start
Liam’s mind raced as he stood in the room, trying to process everything. The woman who had greeted him, with her stern yet distant demeanor, had already left. Her footsteps faded down the hallway, leaving him alone in the quiet room. The air around him was still, thick with a sense of unfamiliarity.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
"Where am I?" he wondered.
Trying to make sense of this strange new world.
The room was simple, ordinary, with no signs of nobility or wealth just a small, modest home, likely in a quiet neighborhood. The faint scent of wood and hearth lingered in the air. He could hear the occasional rustle of the wind outside, but there was no bustling noise of a busy city street. No servants, no luxurious adornments just quiet simplicity. Yet something about it all felt... out of place for him, as if it was his life but not entirely.
His fingers grazed the wooden desk in front of him, gliding across its surface, and then he turned toward the window. He gazed outside, trying to gather his bearings. Through the window, he saw a sprawling city with tall, gothic structures and winding streets, but they were unfamiliar to him his own memories felt distant, jumbled, disconnected.
Liam glanced back at the room one last time, then made a decision. He needed to understand this new world needed answers.
With careful steps, he crossed the room and pushed open the door, finding himself standing in a narrow, quiet hallway. The house was nothing grand. The wooden floors creaked beneath his weight as he ventured further. It was all neat, orderly, and modest, with no signs of wealth, but it was comfortable in a way that suggested his family had lived here for some time.
Liam’s heart pounded as he walked cautiously down the hall, unsure of where to go or what to do next. He had to make sense of everything, but the more he tried to ground himself in his new reality, the less he understood. He was not rich, nor was he poor. His family was somewhere in between, living modestly, and yet his body his entire existence felt strange, as though he was meant to be someone else, someone with more purpose.
The house was quiet, the only sounds coming from the creaks of the wooden floorboards beneath his feet. As he reached the staircase, the sight of the rising stone steps made him pause. Something in his gut told him that the answers he sought might lie somewhere beyond the familiar walls of the house, somewhere in the city that lay outside. With one final breath, he made up his mind and ascended the stairs.
He reached the top of the staircase and found another corridor, leading to the outside of the house. The scent of the air changed as he reached the door fresher, with a touch of the dampness of the outside world. As he opened it, the city stretched out before him, bathed in the soft, muted light of a cloudy day. Buildings of all shapes and sizes lined the streets, many of them old and weathered, with hints of gothic architecture and modern buildings alike. But it was the silence that unsettled him the lack of life in a place that should be bustling.
Just as Liam stepped into the street, feeling the weight of this strange, new world pressing in on him, he was struck by an odd sensation: a strange pull. Something was drawing him forward. He turned down a side street, his legs moving on their own, as if some invisible thread was guiding him.
It didn’t take long for him to realize where he was headed toward Duskwatch Academy.
Even before he saw it, he felt the school in his bones, like an old memory stirring to life. The academy loomed in front of him, an impressive structure of ancient stone and shimmering glass. The towering, gothic spires, and the ethereal glow of the crystal windows made it appear like something out of a storybook intimidating and yet strangely familiar. He hadn’t known he was coming here, yet everything about the place seemed as if it was where he was meant to be.
Liam’s heart raced as he approached the front gates. The place looked grander up close, its walls tall and imposing, the windows gleaming in a way that suggested something more than just mere architecture. This was a place of power, of influence. And he, a regular human, was about to step into it.
Before he could second guess his decision, he found himself crossing the threshold. Inside, the atmosphere was filled with the low murmur of voices and the soft shuffle of footsteps. The halls stretched long and wide, with marble floors and high, vaulted ceilings. It was clear that the school was a place of nobility and wealth though in a way that Liam had never experienced.
As he walked deeper into the halls, trying to absorb everything around him, a commotion broke out ahead. He paused, his eyes scanning the room, trying to make sense of the sudden noise. A group of students parted as a figure emerged from the crowd a young man dressed in an elaborate black coat with crimson lining, his silver hair cascading down in sharp, almost ethereal waves. He moved with an almost supernatural grace, his cold, calculating gaze sweeping the room, his presence demanding attention without a single word.
Liam stood frozen, his gaze locking onto the stranger, his heart beating faster. There was something about him that Liam couldn’t quite place a feeling of recognition, a spark of something deep inside. The stranger’s blood-red eyes flicked toward him, and for a split second, the entire room seemed to fade away.
The name echoed in his mind like a forgotten memory, and for reasons he couldn’t explain, he felt as if he should know who this person was. The heir to House Draevor one of the most powerful vampire families in the city.
Liam shook the thought away, trying to ignore the strange connection he felt. This was a world of vampires and humans, and he was just... a human. He wasn’t meant to be involved in whatever game was playing out around him.
But then, as if drawn by an unseen force, Lucian’s gaze met his. His sharp, piercing eyes held Liam’s for a moment, something unreadable flickering in their depths. A fleeting smile passed across Lucian’s lips, one that seemed to hold some secret, some unspoken challenge.
Without another word, Lucian turned away, continuing his path through the room, leaving Liam standing there, heart pounding, as the whispers of the students around him intensified. The connection, the feeling of recognition, lingered like a faint echo in the back of his mind.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
"What is this? Who is he? and why do I feel like I know him?" Liam thought.
The questions piled on top of each other, but before he could unravel the mystery, a voice interrupted his thoughts.
???
“You’re new here, aren’t you?”
A voice asked from beside him.
Liam turned, startled, to find a classmate standing there, a curious look on his face.
Liam replied, trying to shake off the strange feelings.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
"I’m still getting used to everything."
???
"You’ll get used to the way things work around here. Just be careful. People like Lucian Draevor are always watching."
Liam swallowed, his unease growing. The academy was not just a school. It was a place where humans and vampires lived in an uneasy balance, and he had just stepped into a world much larger and more dangerous than he could have ever imagined. And that mysterious, unsettling figure, Lucian Draevor, was clearly at the center of it all.
This was only the beginning.

let's get on with this chapter
Chapter 3: A Dangerous Dance
Liam’s first day at Duskwatch Academy unfolded like a strange dream, with moments of both awe and unease.
The academy’s grandeur was undeniable, its towering gothic spires loomed over him as if to remind every student of their place within its walls.
But beneath its breathtaking architecture lurked an unspoken hierarchy.
Humans and vampires walked the same halls, yet their shared space felt more like a silent battlefield than a place of learning.
The moment with Lucian Draevor lingered in Liam’s mind like an itch he couldn’t scratch. The silver-haired vampire’s piercing eyes, the smirk that held too many secrets, it all unsettled him.
And yet, Liam couldn’t deny a strange pull toward him, like the universe had tethered them together in some unseen way.
After the orientation, Liam wandered the halls, trying to avoid attention. The humans at Duskwatch Academy were few and far between, and it was painfully clear where they stood in the social order.
The vampire students moved with an effortless grace, their confidence palpable, while the humans clung to the edges of the crowd, careful not to draw too much notice.
Liam hated the oppressive air of superiority, but he kept his head low for now.
His first class of the day was combat training, held in a massive arena that seemed carved out of stone and shadow.
The space was vast, with raised seating for observers and a central ring for sparring matches.
The air smelled faintly of sweat and the metallic tang of blood, a reminder of the academy’s brutal standards.
Liam kept to the back of the group as the instructor, a grizzled vampire with a no-nonsense demeanor, began pairing students off for practice.
The humans were clearly at a disadvantage, their matches ending quickly and often humiliatingly.
The vampires didn’t just have superior strength and speed, they fought with centuries of instinct and precision.
When the instructor called Liam’s name, he felt every eye in the room turn toward him.
His opponent was a vampire named Aric a smug, broad-shouldered boy with sharp fangs and a cocky grin.
Aric
“This’ll be over quick.”
Aric sneered, cracking his knuckles.
Liam stepped into the ring, his heart pounding. He didn’t want to fight, but there was no way out without drawing even more attention.
As Aric lunged at him, Liam moved on instinct, his body reacting faster than his mind could process. He dodged the attack with surprising agility, his movements sharp and fluid.
The crowd murmured in surprise.
Aric snarled and came at him again, but Liam ducked and spun away, his feet moving as if they had been trained for this his entire life.
Somewhere deep in his muscle memory, something had awakened, a skill he didn’t remember learning, yet it felt like second nature.
The fight lasted longer than anyone expected, with Liam holding his ground against the vampire’s relentless assaults.
But eventually, Aric’s superior strength and endurance won out, and Liam found himself on the ground, gasping for breath.
The instructor barked, stepping in to end the match.
Aric smirked down at Liam before walking away, but the look in his eyes wasn’t just smugness, it was disbelief.
He hadn’t expected a human to last even a fraction of that time.
Liam pushed himself to his feet, his body aching but his pride intact.
As he brushed himself off, he felt a presence behind him.
A smooth voice said, sending a shiver down Liam’s spine.
He turned to see Lucian standing at the edge of the ring, his crimson eyes fixed on him.
Liam’s breath caught. Lucian's presence was overwhelming, his aura commanding yet oddly magnetic.
The vampire noble’s expression was unreadable, but there was a glint of curiosity in his gaze.
Lucian Draevor (Ml)
“You move well for a human.”
Lucian Draevor (Ml)
“But let’s see how you fare against someone more... challenging.”
Before Liam could respond, Lucian stepped into the ring, his movements fluid and deliberate.
The crowd fell silent, their attention snapping to the heir of House Draevor. Even the instructor didn’t dare intervene.
Liam’s instincts screamed at him to back down, but something in Lucian’s eyes stopped him. There was a challenge there, a spark that ignited something deep within him.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
“I’m not afraid.”
Liam said, surprising even himself.
Lucian's lips curved into a faint smile.
Lucian Draevor (Ml)
“Good.”
The fight began, and it was unlike anything Liam had ever experienced. Damian was fast, too fast. His attacks were precise, his movements almost graceful.
Liam barely had time to react, dodging and parrying with every ounce of strength he had.
But for every move Liam made, Damian was already two steps ahead. It was clear the vampire wasn’t fighting at full strength, but there was something else in his movements, a calculated restraint, as if he were testing Liam rather than defeating him.
The duel ended quickly, with Damian pinning Liam to the ground, his crimson eyes glowing faintly.
Lucian Draevor (Ml)
“You’re not like the others,” he murmured.
Lucian Draevor (Ml)
“I wonder... what are you hiding?”
Liam stared up at him, his heart pounding. He didn’t have an answer, not for Lucian, not even for himself.
Lucian rose to his feet, offering Liam a hand.
Lucian Draevor (Ml)
“I’ll be watching you.”
He said, his tone both a promise and a warning.
As Lucian walked away, the crowd erupted into whispers, but Liam barely heard them. His mind was spinning, his body still trembling from the encounter.
What had Lucian seen in him? And why did Liam feel like Lucian’s words carried more weight than he could understand?
The rest of the day passed in a blur. Liam couldn’t shake the feeling that he had stepped into something far greater than himself.
Duskwatch Academy was more than a school, it was a stage for power, secrets, and something darker lurking beneath the surface. And somehow, he was at the center of it all.
When night fell, Liam lay in his modest dorm room, staring at the ceiling. Lucian’s words echoed in his mind, mingling with the memories of his strange, instinctive abilities.
Liam Ashford (Mc)
"What am I hiding?" he wondered.
Sleep didn’t come easily that night, but when it did, it brought strange dreams, visions of blood, moonlight, and eyes that glowed like fire.
