I Love You from the Other Side

Prologue

Do you believe in the existence of otherworldly beings? Or in what they refer to as the land of fairytales.

This gift has been given to only a few people.

Could this ability be considered a curse or a gift?

As far as I know, whether it is a curse or a gift, I have long accepted that I am unique from everyone else.

When my mother gave birth to me, I was not a typical person.

This ability allows me to see creatures that the average person would not be able to see.

I grew up in Japan and there were monsters that lived in our house called Ayakashi.

It was a small creature who lived in the countryside.

People there claim that it lives primarily in remorse areas and is one of the creatures that care for nature.

They are friendly, and I play with them a lot without feeling scared of them.

I am Winter, and I have a strange appearance; others consider me abnormal.

I have this appearance, and sometimes I wonder and ask God, "Why do I have this disease or curse?"

My hair and skin are both white, and ninety-eight percent of my body is white.

So others refer to me as a white witch, a strange child, or a cursed child.

Despite their frequent calls, I ignored them.

My mother is Japanese, and my father is Filipino, so I am half-Filipino. I was born in Okinawa, Japan.

Like my mother, I had brown hair when I was younger, but when I was eight years old, both my skin and my hair abruptly turned white.

After that, my parents took me to the doctor, who diagnosed me with albino, a rare disorder.

Although I was not born with albinism, I became aware of this odd illness as I grew older.

My albino disorder is not the only thing I have; I have always been able to see things that others can't.

When I was ten years old, my mother died, and everything changed.

I see my mother's ghost, who is often with me when my father leaves me; she was always by my side, but when we go to Tokyo, she disappears.

My hatred for my father stems from the fact that he prevented me from seeing my mother, which caused a rift in their relationship.

However, as I got older, I gradually realized that they are not here to stay forever.

In my situation, despite my desire to be by my mother's side, she will never be there.

And even after my father passed away, I came to terms with it.

I had assumed that I would never see Ayakashi again after it vanished, but after returning from the Philippines with my stepmother, I met the ghost man who looks after our land.

They refer to this enigmatic man as the Fairy King because he is living for a hundred years.

JM is a regular guy with magical abilities who always comes to my aid when I am in trouble.

I became afraid when I realized that I was beginning to fall in love.

Despite my affection for this, I am secretly loved by another heart.

How can I be with him if we live in a different world, one I can not enter unless I give up my life?

Chapter one

The sound of waves in the sea was clearly invading my ears even in broad daylight.

It feels great and peaceful.

However, I nearly became agitated in the sun, but I want to hear and feel it repeatedly.

Even though my pale skin is burning from the sun, I continue to walk slowly until I reach the end of the island.

The opposite side of this place is blocked by a massive black stone.

When I look around, there is no path leading to the other side, but I can climb up this stone and enter the other part of this island.

"What are you doing here, Winter!?" When I heard my nanny's voice, I froze; she was both angry and horrified.

"I just want to take a walk." I respond, but to my dismay, she grabs my arm with force; the pain hits me suddenly, but I can handle it.

This is not the first time I have felt this way.

"Out in broad daylight! If your father finds out, he will kill me.“ She shouted in my face, which is why I struggled in her grip and began to walk back into our home.

That woman never allowed me to roam freely.

She is been angry and irritated with me ever since we returned to our home.

Perhaps because she no longer wants to take care of me.

I want her out of our lives; I know she likes my father and wishes to seduce him.

I always make an effort to prevent it from happening.

I will always find a way to keep Papa from marrying for the third time.

My father has married twice since my mother died, and each of his previous wives only wanted one.

That is Papa's wealth; his first marriage occurred when I was in elementary school; I was ten years old at the time.

It lasted three years before Papa discovered that the woman was gradually stealing money from him.

And his second marriage happened when I was in middle school, at the age of fourteen.

And, like his previous wife, she is doing the same thing, except she is also hurting me.

I was bullied by her and her sister, who also lived with us.

Dad was always preoccupied with his business, so he did not know everything right away.

I keep my silence because they treatend me to hurt him, I love my dad that's why I didn't report.

Then, knowing that he had heard the two, he did everything he could to punish them.

My father is wealthy and has many connections in Japan, which is why his marriage to the woman was quickly annulled, and he even imprisoned her.

Since then, he has never looked for a wife, and when I was in junior high, we moved to Australia because my father became ill.

He received treatment there, and this is where we met Laura, the nurse who cared for dad while he was being treated.

When we decided to return home to Japan, that girl came along and offered to be my nanny.

Yes, I am nearly seventeen years old, but I still need a nanny.

I have Albinism, a rare disease that causes me to be sick.

My hair is white, my skin is white, and my eye color changes whenever I am exposed to sunlight.

It means I am a weirdo, but this has never disappointed me.

I am still a person who wants to live a peaceful life, regardless of whether I am capable of doing so.

And I have a secret that is as big as my illness: I can see ghosts, or dead people.

I have been interacting with them since I was a child.

Because I am used to socializing with them, I am used to having someone constantly following me.

Aside from that, they are not evil entities; rather, they are wanderers seeking the light that will lead them to the paradise known as heaven.

In other words, they do not last long in this world, so I became accustomed to it.

Dad had already come down and was standing when I arrived home.

"You still go out even though it is extremely hot outside Winter." I waited for him to approach me after he said that.

After glancing at my attire, he simply grinned.

I am wearing boots, a heavy jacket, and jogging pants. I am also wearing sunglasses, so if someone sees me, they will think I am weird.

"Papa, I just want to go outside." I told him that I was supporting him to go to the living room.

Laura entered the scene and approached Papa right away.

She speaks gently and softly in front of Papa, as she always does.

I just shook my head, taking off my jacket and glasses.

"Yeah. I know Laura; maybe now is the time to talk." Dad had finished speaking, so I frowned.

Dad motioned for me to sit down, and I did.

"You should return to Australia now, Laura; I have asked my attorney to give you the compensation you deserve for caring for me and my daughter." This was like music to my ears, what my father said.

Chapter two

But the woman is not speaking and is sulking in her seat, with her hand gripping the side of her clothes.

"I do not understand why you want me fired!?" She could not stop her voice from rising, so I simply shook my head.

Papa's attorney and secretary arrived with the woman's documents.

I never questioned papa about why he fired the woman.

But a month later, he told me why.

That woman is slowly poisoning me, which is why my allergy is not improving with each passing day.

I visit the hospital at least twice a week for a check-up.

Laura is a nurse with medical knowledge because she is in charge of my medications as well as my father's, and my father places a lot of trust in her.

But papa is aware that he accidentally switched the bottles of my medicine and his medicine, so he wondered why the contents of the pill in its container were different.

And it turns out that I have not taken the vitamins my body needs for nearly two months.

That is why I am losing weight for unknown reasons, as well as my allergic reaction to foods that previously did not trigger my body.

Because of my illness, the sun is my worst enemy, but allergies are a minor issue for me.

"Forgive me, my daughter, for just telling you this now; I do not want things to get worse, so I deported Laura." Dad said so, so I hugged him and told him it was fine.

I am furious, of course, because that woman is slowly killing me.

But I hope she never hurts someone else again.

We had been living peacefully for months before Sophia came into our lives.

That woman is soft-spoken, kind, and an excellent cook, but I dislike her.

Papa has a crush on her. I know because of how he speaks and looks at her.

I did not see it when he was staring at Laura, so I assumed it was his third wife, and I was correct.

She is six years older than me and three times younger than him.

"This is too much, Papa! Come on!" My voice was a little high at this point because I was informed that the two were marrying.

The woman is simply holding my father's hand and looking at me with affection.

"I love your papa, Winter." She whispered, and tears welled up in my eyes.

I am against her! Because she took my dad away, I truly despise this woman.

I know that this is my reality, but I still want to run down the endless hallway like in my dream.

I do not think this day will ever come again.

"Did you know that Papa will be your father and we can be like sisters?" I whispered, and the two stared at me, so I simply bowed.

"They love each other, sweetie." Miyo, the ghost I have met since we arrived home, said this.

I have been seeing her at home for a long time, along with her other ghosts.

"I saw it too, how they love each other; perhaps they are destined for each other." I clenched my fist when someone else who was also present said it.

I have witnessed my father's behavior change over the last few months since Sophia entered his life.

Despite our distance, I am aware that she is different from Papa's past wives.

In addition to being a skilled painter, this woman owns a cafe close to my school.

She hails from the Philippines, which she has heard is a pleasant country.

With a sigh of relief, I turned back to face the two and braced myself.

After several years, my father was gradually getting better from his illness.

But he suddenly suffered from a heart attack one years ago, which left him bedridden and rendered the other side of his body non-functional.

Nevertheless, I can see how much Sophia loves my father because she keeps defending him.

Right now, I am sitting on my father's bed and feeling his lifeless, thin hand.

"Papa, I am sure you are still listening. I will always and forever love you greatly. I began crying as I whispered.

Days had gone by once more before my papa's life was taken from us.

Even though it was extremely painful, Sophia and I have come to terms with the fact that Papa will not be with us forever. He passed away quietly and without any more suffering.

I was sitting in front of Papa's coffin when my shoulder felt chilly.

Then I saw my father, who is much younger now—I believe he is in his adolescent years.

"I did not think you could see me, my beautiful daughter." He said, turning to face me, grinning.

I grinned, amazed that I could see it.

Being his only daughter makes me proud, and I am glad to see him, even though I know this is strange.

"Please love Sophia as much as she loves us and take care of her." Papa said this as his final words before bidding me farewell.

As we looked at Papa's gravestone, I held Sophia's hand, who was crying beside me.

My father is at last in paradise, possibly with my mother, his first love.

In addition, I swear to look after this precious woman by my side because my father wants me to.
