The girl looked up, and Ray was struck by her bright smile and sparkling eyes. “Sure, go ahead,” she said, gesturing to the empty chair across from her.

Ray sat down and pulled out his own laptop, but he couldn’t help glancing over at the girl’s screen. He saw that she was playing an online game, and he was impressed by her skill. “Just the usual,” Ray said. “Work, gaming, trying to beat that new level in ‘Galactic Quest.’ You?”

“Same here,” Nova said. “I’ve been stuck on that level too! Maybe we should team up and try to beat it together.”

Ray’s heart skipped a beat. “I’d like that,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady.
