Memories_Teaser Chapter

"Alright now, tell me...What do you think?!..Hm?.. Yun?"

It feels like just yesterday when this moment occurred, wishing that everything could have remained the same.

"Yun, are you purposely ignoring me?... Hey, what are you staring at?.."

Even back then, I sensed that a distressing event was imminent, like a countdown to disaster or a ticking time bomb. Despite my intuition, I couldn't help but wonder...Would it have been better had I ended my own life at that time, thereby preventing others from enduring their pains and suffering on account of my presence?....

Should I just kill myself now?...

..**Tell me**...

What should I do?...If I don't do something now, she...will...

 Die...

....and it'll be my burden forever.

I need to...I have to...but I don—

"Karma!"

Upon hearing the name 'Karma,' I softly gasped, realizing that someone was calling my name, even though my senses were still not fully alert. At first I was confused and felt disoriented about my surroundings. But, as I looked around, I gradually began to recall where I was. The lush greenery, a hill we were sat upon, leaves drifting past us, and the vast blue sky extending beyond the horizon.

It all came back to me.....

The girl before me then asked, "So, what are your thoughts, Yun? Are you alright?" Her voice immediately drew my attention towards her. Standing patiently in front of me, she towered over me as the wind gently blew her hair and white sleeveless dress. Despite the breeze, her dress remained modestly in place, not that I was looking. She was a petite eleven-year-old with delicate limbs, her long hair shimmered like gold, her pink lips curved into a warm smile directed at me, and her eyelashes, matching her hair color, were long and beautiful. In her hands, she held a plaid dress she had been diligently sewing for an hour – it was red with black stripes. Named Méilíng, she was a quiet and contemplative individual who derived happiness from creating garments for others. I have always marveled at her effortless sewing abilities, especially considering that she is in fact, blind.

With a modest smile, I nodded in agreement and praised her embroidery skills, "Its absolutely lovely. Your embroidery is beyond astronomical. You're amazing!" overall expressing admiration for her talent.

Méilíng giggled in response to my compliment, prompting a broad smile from me. As she lowered her hands and began to fold the outfit, I applauded her for her effort and work, a gesture of my sincere appreciation. In return, she exuded a radiant smile that could rival the brightness of the sun. It was truly a captivating moment. I found myself acting on impulse, reaching out to gently pinch her right cheek, the soft skin turning a rosy hue.

Surprised yet maintaining her cheerful demeanor, she exclaimed, "Why did you just pinch me? Look! My cheeks are so red!" She giggled, her tone calm. Instead of appearing upset, she seemed genuinely curious about my action.

"I couldn't resist," I replied with a chuckle, "You look truly stunning when you smile like that. I simply had to!" I expressed with delight, my grin reflecting hers. Then I playfully added, my innocent smile shifting to one of mischief, "Besides, I don't twist them like Lady Sue! That woman acts like she's ancient, even though she's only thirty." Méilíng could only shake her head at my playful antics, chuckling softly, though she didn't seem to disagree with me. "What?~ Am I mistaken? Do you remember how fiercely she twisted mine?" I exclaimed in feigned indignation, my lips forming a friendly grin, "Goodness! My cheeks were redder than my hair! And that's saying a lot."

"Alright, alright! That's enough! You're right!" Méilíng responded, her gentle laughter transforming into a more boisterous one, and I guess it was infectious. We laughed like fools. Completely unaware of our surroundings, sitted on this small hill and gazing beyond the grove of trees into the endless expanse of the blue sky. We were happy....

....

......

I was...happy.

Have you ever felt that true happiness is destined to be temporary? That the emotion called happiness was a rather fleeting thing? Simply, fickle....

I have.

And if that resonates with you as well, just know that you're not negative or cynical. Instead, you're painfully right. Yes, yes you are. For in this reality, no...in our realities, genuine happiness remains elusive, a shadow that only creeps behind you, but you can't really touch it. You can only feel it, but you never really have it. You think you're happy, but you can never be truly happy...

Why is that? You ask.

It's because; Authentic happiness does not exist in an unreal world. It doesn't exist in yours...and it certainly doesn't exist in mine. And as long as the world continues to thrive the way it exists, it will never exist. It's just an unspoken fact, but people just can't seem to understand that.

   Never.

...You know, It's just unfortunate that it took me such a long time to come to this understanding. Very unfortunate.

Our fun came to a swift halt just as we noticed Mrs. Ruthbell approaching steadily, calling out to us as she climbed the hill, "Enough lolly-gagging." She huffed with a frown. "Return to your rooms immediately. You have twenty minutes to daydream or do whatever before it's time for bed. Hurry." Bluntly the older women said, we had to oblige.....

More to come in the future! I will try to resume writing this work, even if it doesn't receive a good reception! Thank you! ✨
