The sun had just started to dip beneath the horizon, painting the sky with soft shades of orange and purple. The air was warm, filled with the sounds of distant chatter and laughter from the neighborhood kids. But there, under the large oak tree in the corner of the yard, Y/N and Jungkook sat in their usual spot, side by side.
Ever since they were little, this was where they spent most of their time—this quiet, secluded corner where they could escape the world. It had always been just the two of them.
Y/N watched as Jungkook fiddled with the strings of his guitar, his fingers moving effortlessly over the familiar chords. His voice, soft and soothing, filled the air with a melody that seemed to calm her every worry. She had always admired him—his talent, his determination, the way he could make anything seem effortless.
Jungkook looked up, catching her gaze. "You okay?" he asked, his deep voice cutting through the quiet evening.
Y/N smiled, though it didn’t reach her eyes. “Yeah, just thinking about stuff.”
He frowned slightly, sensing that something was off, but he didn’t push it. They’d been friends for as long as she could remember, and he knew when to let her be.
“Want to hear a new song I’ve been working on?” he asked, offering the guitar to her.
Y/N shook her head. “You know I don’t play.”
“But you’re always here when I need someone to listen,” Jungkook teased, his usual playful grin tugging at the corners of his lips.
She couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ll always be here, you know that.”
And she meant it. Y/N had always been there for him, and in return, he had always been there for her. But recently, something had started to change. She couldn’t quite pinpoint it, but whenever she looked at Jungkook, she felt a strange flutter in her chest.
It wasn’t just the way he looked at her now, his gaze lingering a little longer than usual, or how he would make her laugh with a simple joke. It was something more—something deeper. But Y/N kept it to herself, unsure of what to do with these new feelings.
The sun sank lower, the sky darkening into twilight, and Jungkook began strumming his guitar again, his voice soft as he sang a song Y/N had never heard before. The lyrics, though simple, felt meaningful. Each word seemed to resonate with her, like a reflection of the emotions she couldn’t quite understand.
As the song ended, Jungkook looked over at her, his expression thoughtful. “You think I’ll make it?” he asked, his voice serious for the first time that evening.
Y/N nodded, her heart swelling with affection. “Of course you will. You’re amazing, Jungkook.”
But deep down, she knew that their friendship was changing. And as much as she wanted to keep things the way they were, something inside her told her that the road ahead wouldn’t be as simple as it once seemed.
