Yvonne blinked twice as she gazed at the two red lines. "I am pregnant," she said quietly. In the three years since she got married, she has always wanted to have a child, but to no avail. She even thought she would never get pregnant and was ready to be barren.
'I am sure if Javier heard about it. He would be very excited,' she thought to herself.
There was a loud knock on the door of the restroom, which disrupted her thoughts. A loud voice echoed through the room, "Yvonne, are you done changing?"
Yvonne hurriedly put the pregnancy test away in a small bag, her heart pounding, and called out, "Oh, almost done."
A few minutes later, she came out of the bathroom, and the tip of her long brown hair was wet.
"Is everything alright? You were in the bathroom for quite a while," Helen asked.
Helen is the manager of Yvonne and also her close friend. Helen thought that something was wrong in the bathroom because Yvonne spent thirty minutes in the bathroom while everyone was waiting for her.
"Yes,"
Yvonne walked ahead of Helen.
"They have changed the script lightly." Helen says, as she hands Yvonne the script.
Yvonne sighed. "What changes?" Ever since she got the script, there have always been changes, one way or another. This was like the fifteenth change since she got the script. Like, why couldn't they make up their minds, and stick to them.
"I have highlighted it in the script here."
Helen pointed to the highlighted part of the script. Yvonne stopped walking as she read the part, and she handed the script back to her.
As she stepped outside the resting room where the directors and everyone were, the sun hit her harshly. She uses her hand to block the sun.
Helen took an umbrella that was on the side and opened it for her.
"Yvonne, go into position now. You took so long."
"Okay."
Yvonne gave her bag to Helen as she sat down on the chair that the staff had prepared for her. Across from her was her co-actress, Nadia, who smiled at her.
'Why is she smiling at me?' she wondered.
Nadia raises her hand.
"What is it, Nadia?"
"Director, can we stand up to do the scene? I am sure that will leave the most impact on the viewer."
Knowing Nadia and her past, she would never have suggested such a thing. She likes to be treated like a princess.
"What do you think, Yvonne?"
Yvonne was uncomfortable with the idea, but seeing as all of them were looking at her for a response, she had no choice but to agree on it.
"1…2…3…, Action,"
"How much money do you want for you to leave my husband alone?"
Nadia poured a water on Yvonne's body and gave her a slap.
"Director, that wasn't in the script." Helen said as she pointed to them.
"Cut," the director sighed. "Why did you do what you did?"
"I am sorry, I was trying to improvise, but," she said, turning to look at Yvonne, "I feel that the slap will have a great impact on the viewer. I hope you don't mind."
Helen went to meet Yvonne and linked hands with her.
"Helen, take her to get changed."
They were in the dressing room, and she got changed. Seeing as how it was red and the mark was left there, a staff member gave Yvonne an ice bag to place on her cheek.
"I am certain she did it on purpose, trying to say she was improvising," she scoffed. "Improvising my foot."
"Helen, just let it go." Yvonne said as she touched Helen's hands.
"Why are you nice to people who are not worth it?" A man who wore a black suit said.
Both of them look to the side.
"Javier," Yvonne said as her face lit up.
"I will leave both of you alone."
Helen walked out of the dressing room and locked the room.
Yvonne stood up.
"Why are you here?"
Javier brought Yvonne to his arms and wrapped his arm around her waist.
"I came to meet you," he said, while he used one of his hands to touch her left side of the cheek. "Does it hurt?"
"It hurts for a while, but as I see you, the pain disappears."
Javier chuckle. All of a sudden, he got serious.
"Should I handle it for you?"
"How will you handle it?" Yvonne said, trying to tease him a little.
"Kill her."
Yvonne never expected the answer from him. She was expecting maybe remove her from the industry, which of course she won't agree to, but to kill her for such a measly matter.
This was the first time in three years he had ever spoken like that.
"What?"
"I am joking," he said, while removing his hand from her cheek and using both his arms to wrap around his waist.
"I have something very important to tell you tonight."
"What is it?"
"Make sure you come home early tonight. It is very important."
"Can't you tell me?"
Yvonne knew that Javier hated secrecy.
Helen knocked on the door and said, "Sorry if I am disturbing you two, but Yvonne, the director, is in need of you."
"I will tell you later," she said, while he let go of her.
As he saw how she left the dressing room, his facial expression changed, and he dialed a number.
"Have you found it?"
"Yes, I have."
"Good, tomorrow we will have the operation. Tell the others to get ready."
Yvonne met with the director in his office; he was quiet at first before he started talking, "I want to apologize on behalf of Nadia."
"It is not your fault, so there is no need to apologize."
"That is good," he said. "Can you put in a good word for me to your husband?"
Yvonne now knows why he was apologizing. To get into Javier's good grace, since he controls a lot of companies, even this entertainment company.
"Okay."
When she got to the dressing room, her husband was gone. Yvonne thought maybe he had some important business to attend to.
She came home after a long day of filming, went to buy groceries and was preparing a big feast. After she was done, she was waiting for him, but he never showed up.
She texted him, but got no reply.
She called his phone, but it went straight to voicemail. Yvonne can't help but be worried about him.
Her phone beeped, and she hurriedly picked up the phone, hoping it was Javier, but unfortunately it wasn't, but a strange number who texted her, "Do you want to know where your husband is? Come to his office tomorrow, and you will find out."
Yvonne stared at the message and tried to call the sender, but unfortunately, the sender did not pick up the call.
She got her laptop from her room and looked up the Riley Group Corporation to get the company phone number. She called the number, but it wasn't reachable since it was 11 p.m.
This was the first time he had not made his commitment since they got married three years ago.
The next day, Yvonne cancelled all her appointments and hurriedly went to his company to find out what the sender meant and if he was there.
Meanwhile, Javier was in his office, looking out the window, when Nadia came into the office quietly and hugged Javier.
"Missed me?" she said, while she smiled.
Javier sighed, held her hand, and yanked it away from him.
"How many times have I told you to never hug me?"
"Well....don't you like it?"
Nadia uses her thumb to go down his chest. He held her thumb tightly, and she yelled in pain.
"I never give a warning to anyone, but consider yourself lucky to get the first warning."
"What do you mean by that?"
"At the set yesterday, I saw what you did," he said. He holds her chin aggressively, "Never in your life will you ever hit her again; I don't care if it is acting." He paused a little, "Just don't do it, because if you do, you might not live to tell the tale." He smirked and let go of her chin.
Nadia fell back a little, and her hand was shaking. Was that a threat? This was the first time he had ever reacted so strongly. Was it because of Yvonne, or was it because she met him in a bad mood? she wondered.
Even though she has done a lot of things, he never once yelled at her or made her sad, but just because of Yvonne, he talked to her like this. This made her rage, and she looked at her watch.
She stood up as she tried to hide her shaking body.
"Why do you care about that bitch? We both know you got married to her because of the promise you made to her sister," she continued. "You never loved her; you pretended to love her. I know you are saying all of this because of the promise you made to her sister and you," she continued, as she pointed at him, "are scared that you might break the promise."
Javier sat down in his office chair and took a sweet from his pocket.
"And so? How is that any of your damn business?" he said, while licking the sweet.
"Yes, it might not be my business, but it might be her business since she thought you got married to her because you loved her," she said, "Which again I feel bad for her," she scoffed.
Yvonne slowly removed her shaking hand from the door. Knowing what she just heard. She left the company in a hurry.
'How can it be? So he got married to me because of my sister's wish?' she thought.
Yvonne entered her car and was driving in a rush. People horned for her, but it felt like she was alone. Her phone rang, which puts her into reality. She stared at her phone and tried to find a place to park.
She puts her head on the steering wheel with tears flowing down her face. Was all that he did a lie? Was the love he told her a lie? She wondered.
Why didn't she notice it three years ago? They slept in a separate bedroom, and he will act like a stranger to her? Why did she not notice it?
He was the one who proposed to her; he was the one who confessed to her. A lot of thoughts were going through her head. What is she going to do now?
Her phone continues to ring. She picked up the call.
"Wow, I have been calling you, and you won't pick up. What a friend you are!"
"Draft me a divorce paper."
"What?"
"I will explain to you later; just draft me the damn divorce paper. I will come to your office to get it."
"Why do you want a divorce paper?"
"Just do as I say right now. I will tell you later," she said, in a rush.
Yvonne ended the call and started driving.
Later in the night, Javier came home and saw that the whole house was dark. He thought Yvonne wasn't home yet. He turned the light on and stumbled on his feet when he saw her sitting on the couch in the living room with a paper in her trembling hand.
"I am sorry for not coming home last night; I had something urgent to do and I totally lost track of the time.
She did not answer him, and saw that her face was emotionless.
"What happened?" he said, concerned.
"Let's divorce."
Javier looked at her in shock. He never expected that word from her. She loved him so much, so why would she want a divorce?
"Why? Is it because I didn't come yesterday?" he said, as he was trying to understand her thought process.
"No, I overheard the discussion between you and Nadia. I never knew you were that close to Nadia."
Javier wondered what on earth she heard, and how would the secretary let her come near his office without informing him first?
"So, did you get married to me because of a promise made to my sister?"
"Yes."
Javier thought there was no point in lying since she had already found out.
Yvonne chuckled while trying to hide the tears from forming in her eyes.
"Are you okay?"
She stared blankly at him and handed him the divorce paper.
"Sign it."
He put his work bag on the floor, looked at the divorce paper, and tore it up into pieces.
"What did you do that for?"
Yvonne yelled at him in anger.
"I am not signing it, and who gave you that divorce paper? Is it that lawyer friend of yours?"
"She is not the one,"
"If you say that immediately, that means she is the one."
"She is not the main concern right now. I want you to sign that paper," she said as she pointed at the paper.
"I am not signing it."
"Why?"
Yvonne couldn't understand why he wouldn't sign the divorce papers. What did he gain by being married to her? Is it because he does not want to break the promise that was made?
"I am tired. I don't have time for you," he said as he picked up his work bag and was going upstairs.
Yvonne quickly stood at his front.
"Do you think I am joking?"
Javier puts his work bag down again and puts his hands on her shoulder.
"Listen, I will not give you the divorce you want, so behave yourself, and you will see my good side."
He patted her head and smiled at her as he went upstairs.
"Why don't you want to sign the divorce paper when you don't love me?" she yelled as he was leaving.
Yvonne fell to the ground and was crying so heavily. She buried her face in her hands.
The next day, Nadia was in her home when the doorbell rang. She looked through the peephole and saw that it was Javier. Without a thought, she opened the door.
Javier stepped his feet into the place.
"This is your first time coming to my home," she said as she kept smiling. "You should have told me you were coming; I would have prepared."
Javier holds her by the neck and pushes her to the wall. Nadia gazed at him and tried removing his hand.
"What are you doing?" Nadia's voice trembled, and her eyes widened in panic. She gasped for breath, struggling against his hold. Her leg was trembling beneath her.
"I warned you, but you don't seem to take my warning seriously." Javier's eyes gaze into hers, his expression unreadable.
Nadia used her hand to hold the wall, and she was trembling. Realizing that something might have happened at their house.
"Is she going to divorce you after hearing what I said?" she smiled at him.
As Javier's grip tightened around Nadia's throat, a sudden memory entered his mind. "Promise me you will never kill anyone, no matter what the person does."
He released his grip on her, and she fell to the floor, holding her throat. She was breathing heavily.
"I know you will never kill me."
Javier throws a picture on the floor. Her hand trembled as she picked up the picture, and her eyes widened as she saw it.
"W….what did you do to my father?" she said, as fear gripped her.
"I did nothing," he said. "Isn't that the place your father is hiding?"
Nadia was anxious. How could he find her father so easily when not many people know where he hides? She was trying to read Javier's expression to see what he was thinking, but she could not read it.
Javier smiled and brought her chin up.
"Do you think I did not know what you and your father planned? Do you think I am a fool?"
Nadia's father was a worker for Riley Group Corporation. He was given the most important job to do, but he misused it and tried to bring down the corporation.
"You already knew, so why did you deceive me?" she yelled. "You told me the wrong information?"
"Wrong information?" He burst into laughter. "If I were you, I would warn him to leave that hiding spot and find a new one because if I caught him, he would regret the day he was born."
"Your father is going to pay the price instead of you, so don't do things that will make me kill you." He pushes her hair on one side.
"Why are you doing this to me?" Her voice trembled. "It was my father who did everything; I was only following his order. I never meant to hurt you."
Javier stood up and looked at her with a serious tone.
"Stay far away from me and Yvonne. I don't want to see you near her," he pointed at her.
As he was about to leave, he stopped and looked back at her. "The movie you are acting in with her, I will take you out of it," he said. "That will be your punishment for purposely leading Yvonne to hear what you said yesterday."
He was about to open the door when Nadia gripped his leg, "Don't leave me! If you leave me, I will be alone," she pleaded.
Javier was getting impatient. He never thought he would encounter someone like her in his lifetime. He wondered why she was still acting like this after what he did to her. Even though Yvonne loved him, she never acted like this, so why is Nadia acting this way?
He yanked his leg away from her, opened the door, and left. Behind the door, he could hear her crying.
His driver, who was waiting for him, opened the car door as he entered. While he was in his car, his phone rang.
"Mr. Riley, Yvonne has locked herself in the room and is refusing to eat. What should I do?"
"Really? She hasn't eaten anything since morning?"
"Yes, and I am very worried about her."
Javier put his hand on his forehead and sighed.
"Okay, I am coming. I will handle it."
Javier hung up the phone and told the driver, who is his right-hand man, to cancel all his appointments today, and he wouldn't be coming to the office today.
Javier checked his suit pocket, but he couldn't find any sweets to lick.
"Should I stop at the grocery store to get a sweet for you?"
"No need! I need to meet with her so she can eat."
His driver nodded, and Javier took a picture from inside his suit jacket pocket.
"Why is your sister so stubborn? I never told your sister the truth; she finds out by herself, so I hope you don't blame me."
He closed his eyes when a flash of memories came in.
[Flashback]
"Give it to me, or she dies."
"Don't listen to them," the girl yells. "If you give it to them, you will never see me again."
A gun was shot.
[End of flashback]
He opened his eyes immediately and was panting loudly.
His driver looked at him in the mirror.
"Are you okay?"
"I am fine."
He put the picture back in his pocket.
They arrived at the mansion and met with Jenny, who was waiting for them.
"Ever since I came back this morning, she is not on her usual self," she said as Javier was walking upstairs to Yvonne's room. "Did you argue with her?"
Javier smiled at her, then knocked on the door, but there was no response.
"Open the door," he said. "If you don't open it, I will use the spare key to enter."
There was still no response inside, so Javier told Jenny to get the spare key, which then opened the door.
Yvonne was lying on the bed with her stomach down. The room was burning hot. Javier turned off the heater and opened the window.
"Are you planning on killing yourself?" he said as he removed his suit jacket and loosened his tie.
He continued, "In this hot weather, you turned the heater to 90 degree."
Yvonne stood up.
"Well, if you don't want me to die, just sign the divorce paper, and then I won't die."
"So, is that what it was about?" He turned to look at Jenny. "Get her the food, and I will see if she won't eat. I will force it down her throat."
A few minutes later, Jenny brought the food, and Javier told her to leave. The door was closed.
"Will you eat gently, or should I feed you?"
Yvonne sat on the bed and didn't give a response. He sat down on the bed and held her tightly to his body as he was attempting to feed her when, all of a sudden, the urge to vomit came. She pushes him away and runs to the bathroom.
"Did you see yourself? You are vomiting just because of food?"
Yvonne cleaned herself up and was glad he did not notice it right away, which can complicate things.
She came out of the bathroom, looking rough.
"I will eat only if I visit my sister alone."
