September 1, 1997 — Seoul, South Korea
The loud noise of television echoed in the whole mansion.
A broadcasting news was flashing on the screen, the female news reporter's voice could be heard loudly and clearly as she was currently reporting Princess Diana's death.
It was eight in the morning and Jeon Jungkook was very excited,
Not only because it's monday and first day of the school, starting his last year in high school to be exact.
But because it is also his seventeenth birthday today.
Mrs Jeon
I can't believe she died
Mrs Jeon
Oh my. God bless her soul.
Mrs. Jeon says and sips her tea.
Her husband, Mr Jeon, also sits on her left side, holding and reading a newspaper
Focusing his eyes on it rather intensely, too immersed in the words written on the paper.
Jungkook woke up happily half an hour ago, but a frown quickly appeared on his face
When his parents barely acknowledged him
Only hearing a small birthday greeting and small smiles plastered on their faces.
But what can he expect from the people he's supposed to call his parents?
Meetings, business trips, always leaving Jungkook alone in the mansion
And barely having time to spend with him.
Life is supposed to be easy for rich people but Jungkook has to disagree on that.
He may have the money and privileges but he doesn't have that parental love that he craved almost every single day.

Jungkook's life
His doe eyes looked gleaming, he thought his parents would surprise him with cake or even throw a party for him but how wrong he was.
He shouldn't have had expectations but nonetheless, he tried to not let it affect his whole mood..
The whole dining table fell into a comfortable silence but to Jungkook, it was awkward and suffocating.
All of his life, his parents were never there for him most of the time. Prioritizing their work instead of their own child.
They had always kept reminding Jungkook to maintain his good grades and his spot as the highest honor student in his class.
Of course, being the obedient son that he is, he always obeys their words.
Even though there was one time Jungkook almost passed out because he had studied too much,
Without even taking a break for his finals last year and only had one hour of sleep.
It felt like it was worth it, seeing both of his parents shining their smiles on him, always telling to continue the hard work.
But even if he could see the proud look on their faces, he was very tired but he had no room to complain.
Oh, the perks of being raised in an asian household.
To make it worse, living in a rich family and being the only child and having higher expectations from you,
It is draining and the pressure will never leave your shoulders.
And to Jungkook, he wishes that this is not the life that he has.
He hurriedly finishes his cereal and glues his eyes back on the television,
Instantly getting immersed on the tragic news of the princess.

It's so cruel to get raised in these types of family where all they care is about the society and their norms.. they don't care about their own children suffering... just want to make them their puppet who should be perfect... a 100/100
expectations
Mrs Jeon
So, sweetie, I want you to be the valedictorian this year.
Mrs Jeon
It's your last year in highschool.
His mother's voice made him break his attention to the television and looked at her instead, eyes wide.
He sighs in defeat, already feeling exhausted and he hasn't even started studying yet.
Jeon Jungkook
Yes, mom. I will be the valedictorian this year.
Mrs Jeon
Good. You need to have the highest grades of your class or I'll be very disappointed.
Mrs Jeon
You don't want that, right Kookie?
Jungkook bit his lip and nodded his head again.
It didn't take long to finally arrive at school. Wearing his newly ironed uniform and polish shoes,
He finally got out of the car with the biggest smile on his face.
He should be miserable that he's back again at school but no, it's the other way around.
Jungkook finally got the chance to hang out with his bestest friend, Jimin and he couldn't wait to see him.
His house was dull and boring and the only thing he could feel happiness if he's outside of it.
Anywhere is better except his own home.
His bunny teeth peeks out when he lets out another big smile on his face and squeals loudly when he hears Jimin's voice and sees him waving his hand at him.
