The rain crashed down heavily, drenching the unfortunate civilians and their loads. The metallic city glowed even more radiantly, thunder raging and lightning, threatening to rip the sky apart.
A lone tall figure walks through the heavy rain with a steady gait. His shoulders slouched, his head, down and covered with a hoodie. Despite his drowsy state he didn't stop and walked towards his destination. The figure rounded a corner and walked into a suburb, the environment turning dark and gloomy in an instant.
The figure kept on walking with his head down and didn't stop until he arrived at an old and moldy little apartment. He dug into his pocket and pulled out a bunch of keys, slipping one into the keyhole and jingling it about. He pushed the door open and took off his wet hoodie before shutting the door behind him. He fumbles around for a while before the lights turn on.
A teenager who looked fifteen or sixteen, stood in a not too big but not too small space. His green eyes glowed as his slightly long inky black hair dripped with water. His slim build stood tall and his muscles bulged. It's obvious he had been through storms and challenges despite his young age.
After stuffing the hoodie in a laundry basket, he moved towards the small table and sat on the only chair available in the room. The table was lined with a small pot plant, a bunch of books and stationary, a small globe and a solar powered table lamp.
A small bed was stationed at the far end of the wall with a clean bed spread and duvet. A small bed drawer was placed beside.
A small and convenient bathroom. A toaster, fridge packed with froze foods, a microwave, a small wardrobe and he's good to go.
Sitting himself down on the chair, he grabbed an envelope and tear it open.
Dear Mr. Alexander
We reviewed your CV and as far as we could tell, you're perfect for the job, however, past records refrains us from employing you. We do hope you understand where we are coming from and our deepest concerns. Our most sincere apologies' sir.
RS CORP.
Alexander stared at the letter for some time, fatigue and resignation, overtaking his features.
" What's a Sixteen year old orphan suppose to do in this parts?" he sighed " It's not like I killed someone or anything, everyone's got a demon or two."
Alexander crumpled the letter and the envelope, tossing them into the trash can. He got up and walked to his bed, slumping down heavily and falling asleep almost immediately.
The cold air invaded his room, dragging him deeper into slumber.
The next morning, Alexander washed up and walked out. He was putting on a pair of black round neck with jeans. He jogged towards his workplace and the only place he finds solace, a car garage. He's being working there for three years already and the pay's good but deep down, he knows he's not meant for something like this. He's meant for something better, something brighter and something more benefitting. With his brains, he could score any company working with anything technology and automobile but due to lack of powerful connection and his reputation as a hot-blooded person who picks a fight at the drop of a hat, no company is willing to hire him.
" Finally!" a voice called out and someone ran towards him.
" Morning Jake." Alexander greeted.
" Alex you came just in time, we need to build a car and fast." the blond called Jake, informed.
" Uhn? How important is this order? I've never seen you be this jumpy before." Alexander said as they both walked towards the rest of the workers.
" Fucking finally! We've been waiting for you." a curly haired young man said.
" I overslept. What's this about?" Alexander apologized.
" Do you know the chairman of Cloud nine resort? He asked us to build a car for him and have it ready before his next big match." a blue eyed teenager responded.
" Wait! You mean Declan Kings? That big shot?" Alexander voiced his surprise.
" Yes that big shot. Why the fuck do you think we've been waiting for you? We need our best man on the job." Jake patted his back.
" fuck! Why are y'all still standing around? Let's get to work." Alexander runs towards the inner garage.
" Sometimes I find it hard to believe he's a sixteen year old kid." the curly haired young man said.
" That's what happens when life hit you hard Liam. You're forced to grow up and live in a cruel world." Jake shook his head.
" I think it's best if he should act more like his age sometimes. Like Sam here. He's way too childish."
" Hey!" the blue eyed teenager protested.
Match day. After finishing the car, Declan kings came himself to test it out. After praising them all, he invited them to the game and gave them each an Invitation. Alexander was reluctant to go but facing his co-workers, he caved in.
" Damn!" Sam whistled " place's huge."
" Alright let's find our seats." Liam urged.
The four of them tried to navigate their way through the huge stadium. They eventually found their seats and sat down. It was a stadium for car racing despite it looking like a football stadium.
After almost an hour of sitting, the game starts.
" Ladies and gentlemen!" a voice rang out across the stadium " welcome to Cloud nine 11th racing derby!" A loud applause echoed through the stadium.
Soon, car of different shapes, sizes and color, emerged and drove to the starting line. Alexander squinted a bit and was able to sight a black and green colored race car. A man in his late twenties to early thirties, was sitting behind the wheel with a smile on his face. His blue eyes sparkled and his black hair glistened in the sun's ray. His features made him look like a nineteen-year-old teenager.
A gunshot ripped through the air and the race started.
Alexander walked out of the stadium with his co-workers after the match ended. Declan kings won the race organized by him and to Alexander, it both sounded and felt ridiculous.
" Time to get drunk people."
" Mr Kings asked us to visit cloud nine after the match." Sam brimmed with joy " free drinks and games, I'll never pass it off!"
" After all that hard work, we need to blow off some steam."
" I'm going home." Alexander said and tried to escape.
End result...? He got dragged to cloud nine.
" Woah~" Sam exclaimed the moment they step foot in the place.
The ground floor was an enormous space, lined with gambling tables, poker, card tables and one or two drunk people could be sighted, open making out in a corner. The lighting was low, giving the place a tranquil and resonate feeling. The chairs, stools, bar, tables and chandelier were gold.
Alexander broke off from his co-workers and walked towards the bar. He sat on a stool and rapped on the table lightly to get the bartenders' attentions.
" Cocktail please."
" Right away sir." a blonde bartender replied, and a glass was soon handed to him.
Alexander muttered a thanks and swirled around to check on his co-workers. Liam was at the card table, Jake was watching a game of pool and Sam, he started stuffing his stomach with drinks the moment he walked in!
After confirming their safety, Alexander turned around and slowly drank his cocktail.
" Hey there!" a voice sounded beside him.
Alexander tilted his head to the side and glanced at the unwelcomed guest for two seconds before turning his head away.
" Hey c'mon now, don't be so cold." the man went on " I've been observing you since you walked in. You're quite a charmer, do you know that?"
Alexander smiled and turned to face the man. " I haven't heard such compliment in a long while."
" What's your name? " the man asked.
" Alexander."
" Haha! What a beautiful name for a beautiful person." the man moved closer.
" let's take this somewhere else." Alexander said in a low voice.
The man licked his lips lewdly and ushered Alexander towards the elevator. The bartenders looked horrified for some reason but Alexander wasn't paying attention so he didn't notice.
The two of them took the elevator to the upper floor, the man, tipsy and muddled. They got off and the man escorted Alexander into a room, shutting the door behind him.
Half an hour later, the door opened and Alexander walked out with an annoyed and irritated look on his face.
" A thirty year old man coming for a sixteen year old kid, what the fuck is the world turning into?!" Alexander frowned.
He walked towards the elevator with his hands in his pocket and his expression softened significantly and turned into one of mischief. The doors closed and Alexander stared at the mirror in the elevator
Maybe I don't really look my age after all...
Walking out from the elevator, Alexander scanned the place for his co-workers. They were still at their previous tables, but they all seemed a bit tipsy. Alexander walked over and literally dragged them out of the place.
" Hey! I had that round in the grasp of my palm!" Liam raged in the taxi.
" I had that game! I almost won!" Jake joined in.
" I still didn't get to taste that expensive alcohol! I was so close!" Sam cried.
Alexander raised his hand and pinch his nose bridge in frustration. He took his eyes off them for less than an hour and this happened.
Why did I even bother dragging them away from there...? I should have left them there till they lost all their money. Why do I even bother?
" You morons." Alexander chided" those games were rigged! Not only would you loose all your money, but you might even end up selling yourself without knowing."
" So what?! I'll just escape later on!" Sam retorted.
Alexander stared at his co-workers and only one thought came to mind; Utterly hopeless people!
The sun was radiating in full glory, it rays, warming the cold world a little. Three groggy and hungover men, slowly sat up from their terrible sleeping positions. Their skulls threatened to split apart.
" Ugh.... How did... I get home?" Jake asked with his head in his hands.
" What... what are you.... guys doing in my house?" Liam said with a bit of clarity.
" Where are we? I smell oil." Sam groaned and kept quiet again.
" Finally up uh." a voice scoffed.
The three of them raised their heads and found Alexander standing in the doorway in a dirtied jumpsuit and his arms folded across his chest.
" Alex? We're at the garage? Gah... my head feels like it'll rip apart!" Liam groaned.
Alexander stared at them for a minute or two before finally deciding to take pity on them. He walked out and came back soon with a tablet and three bottled water.
" If you still value your precious heads and life." he mocked and stuff them in their hands.
Sam scrunched up his nose the moment he sighted the drugs.
" Can I pass on them?"
" Sure. I mean it's not like it's my skull or anything." Alexander deadpanned and walked out.
Evening arrived, and the three were much better. The garage had less work, so Alexander got off by seven. Waving goodbye, he slowly made his way home. His apartment is a bit far from the garage but nonetheless, it's the most suitable for him.
Rounding a corner, Alexander walked into a scarcely populated place filled with flowers and trees. There's a small river that runs through the place, and it became Alexander's other comfort zone.
A rustle came from behind, but Alexander paid it no mind. The place was home to wild rabbits and squirrels who liked chasing each other. Alexander's senses suddenly picked up.
A rabbit wouldn't walk with such gait and a squirrel's footsteps wouldn't be this heavy.
Alexander shot up from his crouching position, but a hand held him down and another hand covered his nose with a small piece of white fabric. His consciousness slowly slipped away and he mentally cursed himself before slipping into darkness.
Alexander slowly blinked his eyes open, his skull ringing with immense pain. He was tied up tightly and couldn't make out his surrounding. It was pitch black.
" What the actual fuck is this?!" he struggled against the rope " I better not get out of this, or they're all dead!"
" Oh you're awake." a thick voice rang across the room.
" Who the hell are you?"
" An unfortunate captive like you." the person sighed " what did you do to get into Aston Klein's bad books?"
" Aston Klein?" Alexander was confused "who the fuck is that?"
" You don't know him?" the person was surprised " don't tell me you're going to die without knowing why."
" I honestly don't give two shits who he is! If I get out of these ropes, he's a dead man!"
" Youngsters and their short tempers."
" Wait who are you?"
" I'm Cain Petrov." the voice replied.
" Cain Petrov?" Alexander was greatly surprised " as in 'the Cain Petrov?' The chairman of RS Corp? Damn bro you better pray I don't get out of these binds!"
" Easy there tiger. I don't think we've met before."
" We haven't! But your company booted me out before I even got the chance of an interview just because I got into a couple of street fights."
" When did you apply?"
" Weeks ago. Your company sent a very sugar coating letter of condemnation and rejection two days after that."
" I haven't been in the country for months now so my secretary probably took over."
" Doesn't matter. We're both gonna die here anyway." Alexander spat and leaned back on the pillar he was tied to.
Silence reigned in the room for some time before Cain spoke up.
" How about this? If we survive this and escape with our head and limbs intact, I will personally conduct an interview."
" Why didn't you say that earlier?" Alexander said and stood up. He navigated his way and found Cain.
" What da? Weren't you tied up?"
" I'm street smart." Alexander smiled in the darkness. He untied Cain and helped him up. " Remember what you said. If you get out alive, I'll personally come down to RS Corp in two days for my position."
" I promised an interview not a job offer."
" I'm saving your life here, it's the least you could do." Alexander retorted and dragged Cain away.
The two made their way out of the dark room and ended up in a corridor.
" A warehouse? Isn't this getting a little old and too cliche? What, they couldn't afford a proper place?" Alexander roasted his kidnappers while clicking his tongue with disdain.
" When will the boss get here?" a rough voice asked.
" How the fuck should I know?" another replied " he said he'll be here soon, so have patience and do your job."
The two voices bickered with each other for some time. The source of the voices seemed to be coming from the far end of the corridor, close to the stairs.
" Knowing Aston, he wouldn't placed just two men to watch over me." Cain voiced out quietly.
" Don't worry about it. Leave it to me and make sure you don't die." Alexander said and walked down the corridor, the full moon being the only source of light.
Cain watched with batted breaths as Alexander walked towards the kidnappers and rounded the corner. One of them yelled in surprise and sounds of fighting and muffled grunts, resounded through the small plaza.
" Alright we're good to go." Alexander called out in a small voice.
Cain walked over and his eyes widened a bit when he saw the bulky men lying on the ground unconscious. He shifted his gaze and stared at the teenager in front of him.
" Let's get out of here." Alexander said and rushed down the stairs with Cain in tow.
The ground floor of the plaza was empty and dark. Alexander knew it was a trick but he kept on walking nonetheless. The two walked out of the plaza and quickened their pace. The two were almost out of the woods. Just a little bit more....
A gunshot suddenly ripped through the air and Alexander fell to his knees. He grunted and held his right shoulder.
" Fuck!" he exclaimed and quickly got up, dragging Cain behind a nearby tree.
" Are you alright?" Cain asked worriedly.
" I have a freaking bullet lodged in my shoulder, what the fuck do you think?" The bleeding Alexander replied.
" We just have to stand our ground for a little while."
" If you have a few tricks up your sleeves, now's the best time to reveal it. I don't plan on dying so young. I haven't even had sex yet." Alexander complained in a dark voice.
Cain nearly slipped. " Was that really necessary? You didn't have to add that Information."
" Petrov!" a loud, angry voice yelled " I don't fancy games especially hide and seek. Come out with that little bastard, and maybe I'll leave your corpses intact."
" Who the fuck is this guy?!" Alexander was frustrated.
" Alexander you little fucker! Thought you could escape after that little stunt you pulled last night! You fucking messed with the wrong man!" a bunch of footsteps echoed around them.
" So it's you." Alexander laughed out loud " I was wondering which little fucker could be bold enough to pull this kind of stunt. You want to take revenge? Sure! I'll gladly bring you down to hell with me!"
" Hang tight." Cain whispered to Alexander.
" Enough games! Kill them both!" Aston Klein roared angrily.
" Get down now!" Cain dragged Alexander down as a series of gunshot rip through the air. Screams and grunts echoed as Aston's men dropped to the ground one after the other.
Aston quickly dodged towards a nearby tree while the rest of his men were killed off. After a short while, the woods went silent. Gunpowder polluted the air and mixed with the early morning mist.
" Let's go." Cain supported Alexander and they slowly made their way out of the woods.
" Dad." a calm voice called out.
Alexander raised his head and his green eye clashed with a pair of electric blue ones. A young man in his twenties was walking towards them with a steady gait. His bangs was covering one of his eyes and his skin glistened in the early morning mist.
" Jace." Cain smiled. Alexander suddenly saw a strange movement from behind one of the trees and before his brain could process anything, he pushed Cain away and took a bullet to his stomach.
Alexander mentally roast himself as he fell heavily to the hard ground, another gunshot resounding through the woods and another body falling alongside his.
" Hey kid!" Cain quickly grabbed him and yelled " don't fall asleep! Open your fucking eyes."
" Don't you dare go back on your word." Alexander said forcefully " If I fucking survive this, I get whatever position I want."
Alexander's consciousness was slipping away fast and he could barely make out what was happening around him. His body was suddenly hoisted up from the ground and he was held in a pair of sturdy arms. The smell of chocolate and spices calmed him down somewhat and he slipped into darkness.
