*Here you go now*!
Kim Taehyung sat in his small, dimly lit apartment, staring blankly at the screen of his phone. The screen glowed with a harsh reminder: Account Balance: $27.39. He sighed, running a hand through his dark hair, the silence of his surroundings weighing heavily on him. Bills were stacked on his rickety coffee table, unopened and demanding his attention, while an eviction notice peeked out from the corner. The refrigerator hummed softly in the background, but Taehyung knew it was nearly empty. There was nothing left—not in his fridge, not in his bank account, and certainly not in his heart.
He leaned back, closing his eyes, trying to block out the hopelessness clawing at him. But images from the past slipped through, unbidden. His parents' faces flashed before him, stern and unforgiving, as he stood his ground and refused the marriage they’d arranged.
Suddenly knock come on the door to see it was a devil, giving her a light smile.
''Have a seat, you are behaving like a guest.'' She sat on the sofa facing me.
''When you are going to pay me?''
''Mrs. Min, you already know about my tight situation. I lost my job, I don't have a penny in my back account, ''I say with a sad on my face. Never in my life, I imagined i would be seeing days like this. I worked as a great cook in a hotel for a very good payment but the asshole who was my manger threatened to fire me for some misunderstandings.
''I already waited for four months, I won't wait for another more months when it comes to money. I don't care if you have a job or not. I will give you only one month time, and the next month -end date is your deadline.
"If you don't pay money. I will be taking your apartment instead of the money you borrowed".
I didn't even care when she left from my apartment, I groaned as i looked at those bills. I need to pay, I don't have any money left to pay all my bills which makes me very frustrated and the only thing which is left is crying all alone. Why didn't i saved money all those months?
Because i were so interested to buy all those fancy clothes and shoes.
My phone started ringing somewhere around, I searched for it before it ends, I picked it up.
"Hello, kim Taehyung speaking."
"Hello Mr.kim, I'm John. The reason i contracted you Mr.kim is because we are having a job which you might be interested."The men on the other side spoke, I pulled the phone away from my ear to see the caller id. But it wasn't a spam call.
"Okay? What job is it? I asked him. I don't remember applying for new job positions.
Mr. kim, if you are free, can we meet face to face in person? I will explain this in detail in person.
"Sure, send me the location. As soon as i ended the call. I soon received a message from that mysterious men."
If i wasn't in a state position. I wouldn't ended the call and never would went there. But I'm in a desperate situation of money.
I washed my face and changed into my white long sleeve shirt and blue jeans. I also brushed my hair to look good.
The place isn't that far from where i live, so i have enough petrol to reached there.
Reaching to the place. I soon messaged the men as i took a seat and gazed around as that's only thing left for me to do. Soon i watched a slender men dressed in classy clothes walking towards where i sat. I'm impressed by the way he dressed, I stood up as he stretched out his hand which I shook.
"John, I'm glad that you came." He spoke glancing over my clothes. He nodded his head in approval I guess.
"You've to come if you are in need of a job". He laughed softly as i said that.
"I know everything about you Mr. Kim Taehyung, the reason why i choose you for this job is because of your previous work records.
"First of all what job is this"?
"Baby caretaker." I looked at him as if he lost his mind or what.
"Sorry to say this I think you've mistaken me for someone else," saying this i stood up and started to leave but he spoke.
"You were a great cook, your manage fired you for misunderstanding, Twenty-three years old, don't have been in a single relationship. Disowned by the family for not getting married by their choice. There are many bills to pay and also have negative bank balance.
"My mouth dropped and anger flared in me, how dare he is to investigate into my personal matters.
"Look mister John, I may not have a job right now and there may be bills to pay. i will soon get the job i need. It is illegal to research about someone's personal, I am not here to do babysitting. " I replied
"One million dollars if you say yes." My mouth again drops down looking at the men.
"What? are you kidding me? One million dollars for just babysitting? Did you lost your mind or you are trying to make me fool? Is this a prank
"I'm perfectly normal Mr. kim, I'm not trying to make you a fool. the babysitting as you said it includes taking care of the baby and few other things."
"Like"?
If you are ready for the job then i will tell you about the other things as well, I thought about it, I never seen a million dollars in my whole life. its really a huge amount.
"Okay, I agreed, he pulled out a file from his bag and placed it in front of me.
"This is the contract, Which includes that you will take care of the baby from tomorrow onwards. you have to be with the baby for 1 year."
you need to move to the place where the baby is. you should cut all the tires and prevail there without knowing where you are. and your phone is not allowed, you will be give a new one.
"But"? can't i stay in my own place? I can drive there daily.
"No, Mr. Kim"
"Okay, where i need to sign. I signed the papers before starting up."
Our driver will be there at your place tomorrow morning, So pack everything you need. I said a goodbye before driving my home as i need to pack my bags.
I don't have any close person with whom i need to cut my ties. but i had few friends at my work place but not anymore. And also i never had any sexual intercourse with anyone. It will fine for me just for 1 year.
The morning arrived too soon. Kim Taehyung sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the single suitcase he’d packed the night before. It contained his essentials: a few sets of clothes, toiletries, and a small picture frame of himself as a child with his grandmother—the only person who had ever truly understood him. The thought of leaving his familiar, albeit suffocating, life behind left a sour taste in his mouth. But the promise of a million dollars drowned out his doubts.
At precisely 8 a.m., a sleek black car pulled up in front of his apartment building. Taehyung took a deep breath, grabbed his suitcase, and made his way downstairs. The driver, a stoic older man dressed in a crisp black suit, wordlessly opened the trunk for him.
“Mr. Kim,” the driver greeted him with a polite nod. “Please get in. We have a long drive ahead.”
Taehyung hesitated for a moment, glancing back at his apartment building. He was leaving behind everything—his struggles, his failures, his solitude—but he wasn’t sure if what lay ahead would be any better. Shaking off the uncertainty, he climbed into the car.
The drive was silent, save for the soft hum of the engine and the occasional sound of passing cars. Taehyung’s mind raced with questions. What kind of baby was he going to take care of? Why was the pay so astronomical for a simple babysitting job? And why the secrecy about his location?
After what felt like hours, the car pulled into a modest, yet well-maintained estate nestled within a quiet suburban neighborhood. Taehyung’s jaw dropped as he took in the surroundings—this was not the opulent mansion he had envisioned, but it exuded a sense of warmth and tranquility.
“This is where you’ll be staying,” the driver said, breaking Taehyung’s thoughts.
Taehyung stepped out of the car, his suitcase in hand, and followed the driver to the front door. A friendly-looking woman, impeccably dressed, greeted him with a warm smile.
“Welcome, Mr. Kim,” she said with a slight bow. “Please follow me. Mrs. Lee will meet you shortly.”
“Mrs. Lee?” Taehyung asked, his curiosity piqued.
“Yes, she’s the head of the household and will be assisting you during your stay,” the woman explained.
They entered the house, which was tastefully decorated with a blend of modern and classic furnishings. The butler led Taehyung through a cozy hallway adorned with family photos and soft lighting. The atmosphere was inviting, easing some of the tension that had been building up inside him.
“Here is your room,” the butler announced, opening a door to reveal a comfortable bedroom. “Feel free to settle in. Mrs. Lee will be downstairs shortly.”
Taehyung nodded, placing his suitcase by the bed. He took a moment to breathe deeply, trying to calm his racing heart. The reality of his decision was starting to sink in. This was his chance for a fresh start, albeit under mysterious circumstances.
After a short while, the butler returned to inform him that Mrs. Lee was ready to meet him. Taehyung was led to the living room, where a graceful woman with kind eyes stood waiting. She extended her hand warmly.
“Mr. Kim, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” Mrs. Lee greeted him. “I understand this must be a challenging time for you, and we’re here to help in any way we can.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Lee,” Taehyung replied, feeling a sense of relief at her welcoming demeanor.
“We have a lovely child who will be your responsibility,” Mrs. Lee continued. “His name is Minho. He’s just seven years old boy and requires a lot of attention and care. I believe you’ll find him delightful.”
Taehyung felt a mixture of apprehension and hope. Taking care of a child would be demanding, but it also meant having someone to care for—a stark contrast to his lonely existence.
“Is there anything specific I should know about Minho?” he asked.
“Minho has a very routine-oriented schedule. He enjoys music and drawing, so having some activities planned would be beneficial,” Mrs. Lee explained. “We also value privacy, so it’s important to maintain discretion during your stay.”
“I understand,” Taehyung replied, nodding thoughtfully.
As the day progressed, Taehyung began to acclimate to his new environment. He explored the house, noting the comfortable furnishings and the serene backyard garden. He spent time setting up his room and familiarizing himself with the household's daily routines.
That evening, Mrs. Lee introduced him to Minho. The child was energetic and curious, with bright eyes that seemed to light up the room. Taehyung felt a warm connection as he played with Minho, engaging in simple games and enjoying the innocence of childhood.
As night fell, Taehyung lay in bed reflecting on the day's events. Despite his lingering doubts, there was a small spark of hope within him. Perhaps this unexpected turn of events was the beginning of a new chapter in his life—one filled with new responsibilities, connections, and the possibility of finding happiness once more.
Little did he know, the shadows of his past were just beginning to intertwine with the secrets of his present.
The golden afternoon sunlight streamed through the tall windows, illuminating the spacious playroom where Taehyung sat cross-legged on the soft carpet. A small tower of colorful blocks stood precariously in the middle, courtesy of Minho, who was now placing another block on top with the utmost care. His tongue poked out slightly as he concentrated, his small hands trembling with the effort.
Taehyung watched him, a faint smile tugging at his lips. There was something heartwarming about seeing the boy so engrossed, his world seemingly reduced to this simple yet monumental task.
“You’re doing great, Minho,” Taehyung encouraged, his voice soft yet enthusiastic.
Minho glanced up, his bright eyes lighting up at the praise. “You think so?”
“Absolutely. That tower could probably hold a dragon!” Taehyung teased, leaning forward to inspect it.
Minho giggled, the sound ringing like a tiny bell. “Dragons don’t exist, silly!”
“Are you sure about that?” Taehyung feigned surprise, raising an eyebrow. “I heard they hide in castles like this one, waiting for brave knights to find them.”
Minho clapped his hands together, delighted by the idea. “Then I’m a knight! I’ll protect the castle!”
The two dissolved into laughter, their voices filling the otherwise silent house. For a moment, Taehyung forgot the weight of his own struggles. There was a rare joy in Minho’s company, a pure and untainted happiness that felt almost foreign to him.
When the tower finally toppled, Minho let out a dramatic gasp, then collapsed into giggles again. Taehyung joined him, the sound of their laughter spilling out into the hallway.
After the playroom adventures, Taehyung decided it was time for a change of scenery. “Let’s go to the garden,” he suggested, picking up Minho’s sketchpad and crayons.
The little boy eagerly agreed, grabbing his hat and bouncing on his toes. The garden was a sprawling space filled with neatly trimmed hedges, vibrant flowers, and a large oak tree that cast a cool shadow over one corner. Taehyung spread out a blanket under the tree, and the two settled in with snacks that Mrs. Lee had prepared.
Minho hummed softly as he began drawing, his tiny fingers gripping the crayons with determination. Taehyung leaned back against the tree trunk, watching him with quiet admiration.
“You’re really good at drawing, Minho,” Taehyung said after a while, genuinely impressed by the boy’s colorful masterpiece.
“Thank you!” Minho replied, not looking up as he carefully added a sun to his picture.
They sat in companionable silence for a while, the rustling of leaves and distant chirping of birds providing a soothing backdrop. But Taehyung’s curiosity eventually got the better of him.
“Minho,” he began cautiously, “can I ask you something?”
The boy looked up, tilting his head curiously. “Okay.”
“What about your dad? Does he spend time with you?” Taehyung asked gently, unsure of how the question might land.
Minho’s expression shifted slightly. His shoulders slumped, and his eyes lost some of their sparkle. “Daddy’s always busy,” he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. “He doesn’t come home much.”
Taehyung felt a pang of sympathy. “Oh... but when he does come home, do you play with him?”
Minho shook his head, his movements slow and deliberate. “No. Daddy’s very strict. He says I can’t go into his room or his study. And when he’s here, he’s always working.”
Taehyung’s heart ached for the boy. He couldn’t imagine growing up with such a distant parent. “Do you miss him?” he asked, his voice kind and steady.
Minho nodded, his gaze dropping to the ground. “Sometimes. But...” He hesitated, his small hands gripping the sketchpad tightly. “But I don’t have Mommy, so it’s just me most of the time.”
The mention of Minho’s mother made Taehyung pause. He remembered Mrs. Lee’s warning when he first arrived: “Do not ask Minho about his mother. It’s not your place to bring it up.”
Taehyung swallowed his questions, choosing instead to focus on comforting Minho. He reached out and gently patted the boy’s head, ruffling his soft hair. “Well, you have me now, and we’re going to have so much fun together, okay?”
“Okay!” Minho said, a small smile returning to his face.
The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur of activity. They played hide-and-seek among the hedges, laughed over silly stories, and even tried to catch butterflies with their hands. By the time the sun began to set, Minho was yawning, his energy finally spent.
Taehyung carried him back inside, the boy’s head resting on his shoulder. He tucked Minho into bed, pulling the covers up to his chin and pressing a light kiss to his forehead. “Goodnight, Minho,” he whispered.
“Goodnight, Taehyung,” the boy murmured, already half-asleep.
Once Minho was settled, Taehyung retreated to his own room. He sat by the window, staring out at the darkening sky. The conversation with Minho lingered in his mind, filling him with a mix of emotions.
Who was this man that Minho called “Daddy”? Why was he so distant from his son? And why was Minho’s mother such a forbidden topic?
Taehyung leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his hair. He had come here for a fresh start, but it seemed this household was shrouded in mysteries—mysteries that he was slowly becoming entangled in.
As the stars appeared one by one, Taehyung made a silent promise to himself: no matter what secrets this family held, he would do his best to make Minho feel loved and cared for. Because even in the shadows of this strange new world, he believed there was room for light.
