Silence Square

1 Welcome

It felt just like yesterday, the day she arrived at Junxiong Academy.

When she woke up, she thought it all never happened, she thought she only took a nap during lunch break while the other kids went out to the cafeteria.

Wasn't it so?

There was something else?

Where was she actually?

Was she still in Beijing, in City Y?

She was surrounded by towering trees with fat trunks, and she appeared to be standing at the middle of the highway.

Was she acting in some movie?

Wait! Didn't a car passed by a few minutes ago while she stood?

How come it never hit her?

No way, there was no way the car would've left without hitting her right?

Something must definitely be wrong with her.

Perhaps Shi Aiyi and her minions had beaten her so much and even made her fall from the rooftop that she had lost it.

Yes, she had lose her sanity.

She was still in her pool of thoughts when another car passed by swiftly.

Did it just passed through her?

She stood there with her eyes appearing twice bigger than their original sizes.

No way, she had seen such in movies, such only happened to ghosts.

Was she perhaps deceased?

'No,' She shook her head, staring at her hands. 'It can't be!'

"I can't believe it! I really can't believe it!" Of course she was as excited as someone who just won a lottery, sure she did won something.

She was now a high school student, not just any high school student, but one from Junxiong Academy this was more than a dream come true for her, it was the best thing that ever happened to her.

Ye Jinze quickly put on her uniform, a dark blue mini skirt paired with a white long-sleeved shirt, and a plaid ribbon. She combed her hair and make them fall neatly down her shoulders, while she also fixed her bangs.

She grabbed her bag when she was done and stepped out of her room.

"Big brother, I'm leaving." She announced as she hurriedly took a sip of tea.

A guy dressed in formal office clothes stepped outside, he was tall and quite good looking, the resemblance between he and Ye Jinze was undeniable. He was her elder Brother Ye Yimin.

"Jinze" He called. "You are leaving now? Don't you think it's quite too early?" He asked.

"There's nothing to worry about Brother." Jinze smiled. "I'll see you when I get back."

"Jinze" Yimin called in concern, and took her hands. "It's your first time in that school, you must be very careful and don't make too many friends." He advised. "You know not everyone is glad you got this scholarship, so be wise."

She nodded, getting the message. "Of course big brother. I'll see you in the evening."

With that, Jinze went out of their apartment, greeting her neighbors who all has surprised looks on their faces.

"Isn't that Junxiong Academy?" Someone whispered, pointing at Jinze.

"I thought she did her middle school in Hulin middle school, how come she suddenly switched to such a big school?"

"Perhaps her brother used his little connection to get her in there."

"I heard she was given a scholarship."

Jinze didn't even bother looking back. They were all nothing but a bunch of hypocrite who had all thought she would be stuck in poverty forever.

Junxiong Academy wasn't far from her apartment, she went there by foot and arrived after an hour.

Cars of different types were parking and reversing out of the place, with the students dressed impeccably in their school uniform walking towards the gate.

It was hard to believe that she was stepping feet into the place she had always seen and adored from a distance.

She could see the school's premises through the bars of the black gate, and couldn't wait to explore it all.

The moment Jinze stepped her right foot inside Junxiong Academy, she knew it was a new chapter of her life. She wasn't only going to be a highschool student, but also from such a prestigious school known for it's academic excellence.

She climbed the long staircase, following some students who were engrossed in their phones.

'Okay where on earth is Class 10?' She wondered, 'Just where on earth is it?'

"Hey," A masculine voice called from behind her.

She turned and faced a bespectacled tall man clad in a pair of brown trousers and a white shirt, he wears a black wrist watch, and had on his hands two long books.

"Good morning sir," Jinze lowered her head as she greeted him. "I am a new..."

"You are Ye Jinze, the girl on scholarship" Began the man. "I am Mr. Peng, your homeroom teacher."

"Good morning Sir." Jinze greeted again.

"So let's go," Mr Peng ascended the stair. "Your textbooks are being arranged, they'll be given to you later." He continued.

Jinze nodded and walked after him.

They were heading to her class, and she couldn't help but feel nervous and excitement.

The kids there, how were they like?

Would they treat her like trash because she was on scholarship? Oh of course not.

Mr Peng arrived at the front of a classroom with white door tagged 'Class 3:10' and stepped in with Ye Jinze trudging behind.

"Good morning kids" Mr Peng greeted as he walked straight to the front of the classroom. "We have a new student joining us." He went straight to the point. "Introduce yourself." He motioned Jinze, and she walked closer to him.

The kids were just two much, the boys stared at her from their seats, some of the girls threw her a nonchalant look while others acted as though Mr Peng wasn't even there, with their eyes fixed on their phone screens.

"Hello everyone," She smiled. "My name is Ye Jinze, I hope to enjoy my time here, nice to meet you all."

The kids clapped, especially the few males who had being looking at her since her arrival, the females only snorted, exchanging whispers amongst themselves.

"There is your desk," Mr Peng pointed. "The one near the window."

"Thank you Sir" Jinze smiled.

"This is Cao Lun, the class captain, later in the day, he would show you around the school. Have a nice day." With that, Mr Peng stepped out of the classroom.

Jinze nervously walked towards her seat and sat down after dropping her bag, she looked outside through the window and saw a few students scurrying into their classrooms.

She brought out a notebook from her bag, wanting to blend in with a few kids who were seriously writing.

"Hi," A feminine voice greeted, and Jinze turned to see whose voice it was. "I am Fa Yulan, it's nice to meet you." She smiled extending her hand for a shake.

"Same here, I am Ye Jinze." She smiled, glad that someone at least greeted her.

"Welcome to Junxiong Academy." She grinned.

"Thank you"

What a friendly girl, Jinze knew it! She was going to have the best time in Junxiong Academy.

The Building

The first lesson of Literature went smoothly. To Jinze, it was the first time she was feeling very satisfied with what she was taught. Going to a big school, indeed was the best just like people had said.

When the class was done, Jinze kept her books back into her school bag, and brought out a novel. She was yet to begin reading when someone greeted her warmly.

"Good morning Jinze," He smiled. "I am Shi Jin, it's nice to meet you" He introduced in a friendly tone.

"Yeah, me too." Jinze beamed, liking how some of them happened to be very friendly. "I am Ye Jinze.."

"Shi Jin..." Cao Lun called as he walked towards them. "I will show Jinze around now."

"Oh, of course." Shi Jin smiled. "I'll see you later."

Jinze stood up and followed Cao Lun outside the classroom.

Cao Lun kept a straight face, as he showed her around.

"That's the lunch room" He pointed at a far corner. "The library is upstairs, the science laboratory, the art class, the..."

They arrived outside, with Cao Lun showing her each and every building within the school premises.

"That's the teacher's office, the garden store, the..."

Jinze looked around, trying to store the path leading to every place in her head, she surely wouldn't ask Cao Lun to show her the way to anywhere she wants to go, would she?

"So that's all." Cao Lun finally ended it.

"Oh" Jinze looked around the place, they just passed the soccer field, and she could see the school fence from where they stood.

Jinze sighted a building not quite far from her, though it was quite hard to tell that a building was there since it was obstructed by a few trees, but she could see clearly.

"What is that place?" She curiously asked. 'The school got no farm right?'

If there was a farm, she would assume the building was just a place where the farm tools are kept.

"It's not necessary." Cao Lun shook the question off. "I've showed you the most important places, and that's enough." He added, turning around.

'Oh!' Jinze was still quite surprised, but she turned to leave as well.

'Who knows?' She shrugged. 'Perhaps it's the gatekeeper's room.' She concluded and followed Cao Lun back to the classroom.

Fa Yulan was the only female student what said a 'Hi' to Jinze, the other girls watched her from their seats, sometimes whispering amongst themselves with their eyes following her to wherever she went.

'She reminds me of Mo Yunru' A girl with dark blue hair remarked.

'Don't mention her.'

'Let's just keep everything away from her.'

Jinze was quite glad, at least she did spoke to a few people.

"You would soon know how great this school is" Said Yulan.

"I always knew it was" Jinze smiled. "I've loved this school since I was a baby."

"Really?" Yulan laughed. "You must've been shown everywhere, the dining hall, science laboratory, and stuffs like that?" She furthered.

"Of course." Jinze nodded. "It's a beautiful view."

"That's Junxiong Academy for you, everything is beautiful and distinct." Yulan remarked.

"But there was a building Cao Lun didn't tell me about." Jinze began, referring to the building from earlier.

"Oh, building?" Yulan asked, looking stunned. "I don't think there is any building here, everything is clear."

"Really?" Jinze looked surprised as well. "It was just a few meters away from the soccer field, obscured by tall trees." She explained.

"There is no such building here." Yulan responded, looking quite lost. "Our past seniors planted the trees there, and it marks the end of the school premises, so perhaps you were just imagining things." She explained.

"Oh" Jinze scratched her head.

But Cao Lun said the building wasn't necessary, now Yulan said it never existed.

What on earth was going on?

She recalled Cao Lun's words. 'It is not necessary, I've shown you the most important places and that's enough.'

And now Yulan; 'There is no such building here.'

She had seen a building veiled by that talk trees, a building with the exact same roof as the school building itself.

There was no way her eyes could be playing tricks on her, no way!

The Famous Four

After a few more subjects were taught, the bell for lunch rang and Jinze followed the rest of the kids to the dining hall.

It was a very spacious room painted a simple white with photos of traditional Chinese dishes placed on the wall.

The tables and chairs were made of plastic, and were all orange in colour contrasting the white wall.

Everyone could get whatever they wanted from the counter and Jinze was glad she was not an exception to that.

She settled for Tofu and a few vegetables while Fa Yulan took fruits and salads.

Jinze sat down, making sure to get a good view of the entire dining hall before she begins eating.

As much as she was curious about the building, she decided not to ask Yulan about it anymore, she should just observe things herself for the meantime. Who knows, perhaps Yulan had no idea where she was referring to.

"In Junxiong Academy, we all survive by making friends." Yulan began cheerfully as she ate. "I started middle school here and I know everything about this school."

"Oh!" Jinze remarked, listening with rapt attention.

"I'll introduce you to my friends later..."

"Fa Yulan! Did you forget about us because of the new girl?" A voice interrupted Yulan as she spoke.

She turned back and smiled when she saw a slightly chubby girl with thick bangs and long hair.

"Wen Peihan!" Yulan stood up and hugged her. "I didn't forget you girls, I was about to come over." She smiled.

"Jinze, meet my best friend Wen Peihan" She turned to Jinze. "Peihan, this is Ye Jinze, the new girl in our class."

Wen Peihan looked at Jinze from head to toe and simply responded. "Welcome"

She then turned to Yulan, "We have something to tell you, how about you come with me for a while?"

Yulan left with Peihan, leaving Jinze alone at the seat, though she ate in peace, and didn't care about the both of them, Peihan really does look like a quite mean girl anyways.

As she ate, a group of people passed by her table, and the ever-curious Jinze looked up to see them.

They all had expressionless looks on their faces, walking with a perfect synchronisation as though they practiced their walking steps.

The dining hall immediately became as quiet as a graveyard as the three girls passed by, walking towards their table.

Jinze couldn't understand why everyone stopped talking, and why they had their heads lowered. Was it because of the nice scenting perfume these girls had on?

No it shouldn't be because of that.

This time around, Jinze was really curious...

Just who on earth were those kids? One with brown and pink hair with the other with black and dark blue hair?

Where were they from?

After the discussion with Peihan, Yulan returned to sit with Jinze and continued eating her meal.

"Do you know those girls who passed by a few minutes ago?"  Yulan questioned, remembering she was yet to tell Jinze about The Famous Four.

"No," Jinze vigorously shook her head, glad that Yulan mentioned the topic.

"They're The Famous Four." Yulan revealed in a whisper. "They rule the school."

Thank goodness for the fact that Jinze had no food in her mouth, she would've spat it away following the bombshell just dropped.

'How in heaven's name can students be ruling a school?' Was the first thought that ran through her innocent mind. 'Just how?'

She turned to look at Yulan, who continued eating as though she never spoke.

"Do you know who their leader is?" Continued Yulan, while Jinze shook her head impatiently, not even waiting for the question to be completed.

"The girl with a short brown and pink hair is Shi Aiyi, she's the twin sister of Shi Jin and they both are the heir of The Shi family." Yulan began.

"Woah!" Jinze was indeed stunned to hear that, The Shis are one of the most influential people in the entire city, they boasted wealth and great status.

It came as a shock to Jinze to learn that The Shi's heir and heiress were attending Junxiong Academy.

This school was really a prestigious one.

"Yeah of course The Shi family owns this school." Yulan dropped another bombshell.

The Shi family possessed Junxiong Academy?

"That's nice to hear," Jinze remarked, trying to conceal her astonishment. "I never knew the school was owned by The Shis."

"Uh huh" Yulan smiled, as if she was a Shi heiress herself.

"So that's The Famous Four," Yulan went back to business. "If you want to survive in Junxiong, you must make sure to mind your own business, avoid being nosy, and also don't mingle with The Famous Four."
