The night was still, not even a breeze to move the trees as we walked up the driveway.
The only sound was the light crunch of the gravel beneath our shoes.
I had always loved the look of this place, but now it looked dilapidated and worn down.
The once beautiful white paint was peeling off, and the windows were all boarded up.
It looked more like a haunted house than a medical clinic.
"This is stupid."
Ava said, stopping in her tracks.
"We shouldn't be doing this."
"We've been over this Ava, there's nothing to worry about."
I said.
"Well actually, there are plenty of things to worry about."
Johnathan started listing off the things that could go wrong, "We could get arrested for trespassing, we could get hurt from the state of disrepair, and then there's the reason it was shut down in the first place."
"Thanks for your input John, but I think we've made our minds up."
I said, rolling my eyes.
He was always the voice of reason, but sometimes that got old.
He was right, but I didn't want to hear it.
"Besides, we've been planning this for months. Are you really going to back out now?"
I asked, looking at Ava.
She sighed and shook her head.
"No, I'm not going to back out. But if we get caught, I'm blaming you."
I smiled and held out my hand for her to take.
"Deal."
We walked up the path to the front door.
It creaked as I pushed it open.
"Great, just what I wanted to hear."
Johnathan muttered behind me.
I ignored him and stepped inside.
The lobby was dark and musty smelling.
There were old chairs scattered around the room, and a broken vending machine in the corner.
I walked over to the reception desk and looked over the papers that were scattered across it.
They were all old patient records, nothing interesting there.
"Anything?"
Ava asked, coming up behind me.
"Nope."
I said, turning back to her.
"What's the plan now?"
"We need to find the basement. That's where they'll have all the good stuff."
I said, looking around for a stairway or elevator.
"I think I found something."
Johnathan called from across the room.
He was standing in front of a door that looked like it led outside.
But when he opened it, there were stairs leading down into darkness.
"Good job John."
I said, walking over to him.
He smiled and started down the stairs.
Ava followed him, and I brought up the rear.
The stairs were steep and narrow, and they seemed to go on forever.
Finally we reached the bottom and found ourselves in a long hallway lined with doors on either side of us.

"What now?"
Ava asked, looking around at all the doors.
"Now we start searching. We'll split up and cover more ground."
I said, looking at Johnathan and Ava in turn.
"Be careful though. We don't know what we're going to find down here."
Johnathan nodded and started off down the hall to our left.
Ava followed him, leaving me alone in front of the stairs.
I watched them go, then turned and started down the hall to my right.
The doors were all slightly ajar, and I pushed them open as I walked by.
They were all empty except for one that was locked.
I wondered what could be in there that they didn't want anyone to see.
I continued on down the hall until I reached the end.
Then I turned and started back the other way.
As I walked, I heard footsteps coming from up ahead.
I quickened my pace, wondering who it could be.
When I turned the corner, I saw Johnathan standing in front of a door that was slightly open.
He motioned for me to be quiet and slowly pushed the door open.
We stepped inside, finding ourselves in a room filled with old medical equipment and scattered papers.
In the center of the room, there was a large metal table with several straps attached to it.
Johnathan's eyes widened as he approached the table, his hand reaching out to touch one of the straps.
Suddenly we heard a faint noise coming from outside the room.
It sounded like footsteps, heavy and deliberate.
We froze, waiting for the footsteps to pass, hoping whoever it was wouldn't enter.
They stopped right outside the door and we heard a faint rustling sound.
I held my breath, wondering what was going on.
Then the door creaked open and a figure stepped inside.
It was a man, tall and muscular with a cruel look in his eyes.
He was dressed in a white lab coat, and he looked like he belonged here.
He looked around the room, his eyes scanning over us before coming to rest on the table in the center of the room.
He smiled and walked over to it, running his hand over the metal surface.
"Ah, yes. This is where they did all the experiments."
He said, his voice dripping with excitement.
"Experiments?"
Johnathan repeated, taking a step back from the table.
"Yes. They were trying to create a new breed of human. One that was stronger and faster than before."
The man said, looking at us with an eager glint in his eye.
"And did they succeed?"
I asked, my heart pounding in my chest.
I didn't like where this was going.
"Oh yes. They succeeded. But it wasn't what they expected."
He said, smiling again.
"What do you mean?"
Johnathan asked, his voice shaking slightly.
"They created something that was stronger and faster than before. But it was also more aggressive and violent."
The man said, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"And what happened to them?"
I asked, wondering if they had been killed or if they had escaped.
"They were locked up in cages and studied. But then something went wrong. They broke out of their cages and started killing everyone."
The man said, his voice full of awe.
"And then?"
I asked, wondering what had happened next.
"Then they disappeared. They just vanished into thin air."
The man said, looking around the room as if he expected them to pop out at any moment.
"But I think I know where they went."
He said, looking at us with a sly smile on his face.
"Where?"
Johnathan asked, taking another step back from the table.
The man smiled and pointed to a hidden trapdoor beneath the table.
"There's an underground passage that leads out of the hospital. I think they went that way."
He said, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
I exchanged an uneasy glance with Johnathan.
I didn't like this at all.
But we had come too far to turn back now.
"Let's go."
I said, walking over to the trapdoor.
The man smiled and walked over to the trapdoor, pulling it open.
He motioned for us to go first, and I hesitated for a moment before climbing down into the dark passage.
Johnathan followed close behind me, and I heard the man's footsteps behind him.
We walked in silence, the only sound being the echo of our footsteps off the walls of the passage.
I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being led into a trap.
The man seemed to know more than he was letting on, and I didn't trust him at all.
As we walked, the air grew thick with an eerie silence.
I could feel eyes on us, watching us as we moved deeper into the passage.
I tried to shake off the feeling, but it only seemed to grow stronger.
Suddenly, the man stopped and turned to face us.
I froze, my heart pounding in my chest.
"What's wrong?"
Johnathan asked, looking around nervously.
"I think we're here."
The man said, smiling again.
"Where's here?"
I asked, looking around the passage.
There was nothing but darkness and silence.
"You'll see."
The man said, turning and continuing down the passage.
We followed him, our footsteps echoing off the walls of the passage.
I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being led into a trap.
But I didn't know what else to do.
We continued to follow the man in the white lab coat, our footsteps echoing off the walls of the passage.
I couldn't see anything, but I could sense that we were going deeper into the earth.
The air grew colder and damper, and I could smell mold and mildew.
I shivered, feeling a chill run down my spine.
Suddenly, the man stopped again.
"We're here."
He said, smiling at us.
I looked around, but there was nothing to see.
The passage stretched out in front of us, dark and silent.
"What do you mean?"
Johnathan asked, looking at the man suspiciously.
"You'll see."
The man said, turning and disappearing into the darkness.
We followed him, our footsteps echoing off the walls of the passage.
I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being led into a trap, but I didn't know what else to do.
We had come too far to turn back now.

I spun around, but there was no one there.

I asked Johnathan nervously.
"Hear what?"
He asked, looking at me strangely.
"That noise."
I said, trying to explain.
"There was no noise."
He said, shaking his head.
"I must have imagined it."
I turned back to the passage, feeling uneasy and trapped.
We continued to follow the man in the white lab coat, our footsteps echoing off the walls of the passage.

I spun around, and this time I saw something.
A figure was standing in the passage behind us, its eyes glowing in the darkness.
I gasped, feeling a chill run down my spine.
"What's wrong?"
Johnathan asked, looking at me strangely.
"There's someone behind us."
I said, trying to explain.
"There's no one there."
He said, shaking his head.
"I'm telling you, there's someone there."
I said, trying to convince him.
Suddenly, the figure moved towards us.
I gasped, feeling a chill run down my spine.
"Run!"
I shouted, grabbing Johnathan's arm and pulling him down the passage.t

We ran as fast as we could, our footsteps echoing off the walls of the passage.
I could hear the figure behind us, its footsteps growing louder and louder.
Suddenly, I heard a loud rumbling noise.
I looked up to see that the walls of the passage were closing in on us.
"Oh my god."
Johnathan said, looking up at the walls in horror.
"We have to get out of here."
I said, pulling him along behind me.
We ran as fast as we could, but it was no use.
The walls were closing in on us too fast.
Suddenly, I felt a hand grab my arm and pull me backwards.
I spun around to see Johnathan staring at me in horror.
"What's wrong?"
I asked him nervously.
"We're trapped."
He said, looking around at the walls of the passage.
They were closing in on us from all sides now.
"Oh my god."
I tried to push against the walls, but they were too heavy.
I couldn't move them.
"We have to think of something."
Johnathan said, looking around frantically.
"What?"
I asked him nervously.
"I don't know."
He said, shaking his head.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps behind us.
The figure was getting closer and closer.
We had to act fast if we wanted to survive.
"Use your flashlight."
I said, looking at Johnathan's flashlight.
"What for?"
He asked, looking at me strangely.
"To look for a switch or button or something."
I said, trying to explain.
"There has to be something that can stop these walls from closing in on us."
Johnathan nodded, and began to search the walls of the passage with his flashlight.
I watched him anxiously as he searched, my heart pounding in my chest.
The walls were closing in on us now, making it harder and harder for me to breathe.
Suddenly, Johnathan shouted out in excitement.
"I found it!"
He said, holding up his flashlight so that I could see what he had found.
It was a small button hidden behind a rock in the wall of the passage.
I quickly pressed it, and the walls stopped moving.
We took a deep breath of relief, grateful to have escaped death by such a narrow margin.
But our relief was short-lived as we heard footsteps behind us again.
The figure emerged from the shadows, revealing a familiar face we never expected.
It was Dr. Lee, the man who had brought us to this place.
"What are you doing here?"
I asked him nervously.
"I've been following you."
He said, looking at us strangely.
"Why?"
Johnathan asked him, looking at him suspiciously.
"I wanted to see if you were worthy of joining my team."
He said, looking at us with a serious expression.
"Worthy?"
I asked him, looking at him strangely.
"Yes."
He said, nodding his head.
"I've been watching you both for some time now."
He said, looking at us with a serious expression.

"And I've come to the conclusion that you're both worthy of joining my team."
I looked at Johnathan in shock, unsure of what to say.
"Join your team?"
I asked Dr. Lee nervously.
"Yes."
He said, nodding his head.
"I've been working on a project for some time now."
He said, looking at us with a serious expression.
"And I need people like you to help me complete it."
"What kind of project?"
Johnathan asked him curiously.
"It's a secret."
Dr. Lee said, shaking his head.
"But I'll tell you this much: it's something that will change the world forever."
I looked at Johnathan in shock, unsure of what to say.
"Will we be able to leave after we've finished the project?"
I asked Dr. Lee nervously.
"No."
He said, shaking his head.
"Once you've joined my team, there's no going back."
Johnathan and I exchanged a glance, then bolted past Dr. Lee toward the exit.
We ran as fast as we could, our footsteps echoing off the walls of the passage.
I could hear Dr. Lee shouting behind us, but we didn't dare look back.
We kept running until we reached the entrance of the cave, then burst out into the bright sunlight.
We ran across the desert, not stopping until we were sure that Dr. Lee was nowhere in sight.
Finally, we stopped to catch our breath.
"What do you think he meant?"
Johnathan asked me nervously.
"I don't know."
I said, shaking my head.
"But I don't think it's good."
"Do you think he'll come after us?"
He asked me nervously.
"I don't know."
I said, looking around us at the desert.
"But I think we should get out of here as fast as we can."
Johnathan nodded in agreement, and we began to run across the desert again.
We ran for what felt like hours, but finally saw a car in the distance.
As we neared the car, a stranger stepped out, offering us a ride to safety.
"Where are you headed?"
He asked us, looking at us strangely.
"Nowhere in particular."
I said, looking at Johnathan.
"We're just trying to get out of here."
The stranger nodded, then opened the back door of his car for us.
"Get in."
He said, smiling at us.
We exchanged a glance, then got into the car.
The stranger got into the driver's seat, then started the engine.
As we drove away from the desert, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me.
We had finally escaped Dr. Lee and his sinister plans.
The stranger was silent for a while, then spoke up.
"We're almost there."
He said, looking at us in the rearview mirror.
Johnathan and I exchanged a worried glance, unsure of what lay ahead.
The stranger continued to drive in silence, his eyes fixed on the road ahead.
As we drove further into the desert, the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the sandy dunes.
I felt uneasy, sensing that we were being led into another trap.
I glanced at Johnathan, who looked equally worried.
Suddenly, the stranger veered off the road, revealing that he was working with Dr. Lee.
"What are you doing?"
I asked him nervously.
"I'm taking you to Dr. Lee."
He said, smiling at us in the rearview mirror.
"No."
I said, shaking my head.
"We're not going back there."
"I'm afraid you don't have a choice."
A loud explosion erupted nearby, distracting the stranger and giving us a chance to flee.
"What was that?"
He asked, looking around nervously.
"I don't know."
I said, looking out the window.
"But I think it's our chance to get out of here."
Johnathan nodded in agreement, then opened the door and jumped out of the car.
I followed him, and we ran as fast as we could away from the car.
We didn't stop until we were sure that the stranger was nowhere in sight.
Finally, we stopped to catch our breath.
"What do you think that explosion was?"
Johnathan asked me nervously.
"I don't know."
I said, looking around us at the desert.
"But I think it might have been a distraction."
"A distraction?"
He asked me curiously.
"Yes."
I said, looking at him seriously.
"Someone might have been trying to help us."
I said, looking around us.
"But who?"
Johnathan asked me, looking equally confused.
"I don't know."
I said, shaking my head.
"But we need to be careful. We don't know who is on our side and who is against us."
Johnathan nodded in agreement, then looked around us at the desert.
"What do you think we should do now?"
He asked me.
"I'm not sure."
I said, looking around us.
"We need to find shelter for the night. It's getting dark."
Johnathan nodded in agreement, then looked around us.
"There's a cave over there."
He said, pointing to a nearby cave.
"Let's go there."
I nodded in agreement, then followed him to the cave.
As we entered the cave, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease.
It was dark and musty inside, and I could hear strange noises coming from the back of the cave.
"What was that?"
Johnathan asked me nervously.
"I don't know."
I said, looking around us at the darkness.
"But I think it might have been an animal. Let's just stay here for the night and leave in the morning."
Johnathan nodded in agreement, then sat down on the ground next to me.
We were silent for a while, then Johnathan spoke up.
"Do you think we'll ever be able to escape Dr. Lee?"
He asked me nervously.
"I hope so."
I said, looking at him seriously.
"We have to keep trying. We can't give up now."
Johnathan nodded in agreement, then looked around us at the darkness of the cave.
The sound of distant engines interrupted us, signaling that our pursuers were closing in fast.
"Oh no."
Sarah said, looking around us nervously.
"They've found us."
"What do we do?"
Johnathan asked her, looking around us frantically.
"We need to get out of here."
Sarah said, looking around us at the desert.
"But where can we go?"
I asked her, looking around us at the endless dunes of sand.
"There's a town a few miles from here."
She said, looking at me seriously.
"We can try to make it there. But we'll have to move fast."
I nodded in agreement, then looked at Johnathan.
"Let's go."
I said, gesturing towards the desert.
Johnathan nodded in agreement, then followed Sarah and I out of the cave and into the desert.
As we ran across the sand, I could hear the engines getting closer and closer.
I knew we had to move fast if we wanted to survive.
Suddenly, Sarah stopped in front of me and turned around to face me.
"What's wrong?"
I asked her, looking around us at the desert.
"I think I see something."
She said, squinting her eyes at the horizon.
"What is it?"
Johnathan asked her curiously.
"I'm not sure."
She said, shaking her head.
But as I looked at the horizon, I saw it too.
A massive sandstorm loomed on the horizon, threatening to engulf everything in its path.
"Oh no."
I said, looking around us frantically.
"What do we do?"
Johnathan asked me, looking around us at the desert.
"We need to find shelter."
Sarah said, looking around us at the dunes of sand.
"But where?"
I asked her, looking around us at the endless expanse of sand.
"There's a small oasis a few miles from here."
She said, looking at me seriously.
"We can try to make it there. But we'll have to move fast."
I nodded in agreement, then looked at Johnathan.
"Let's go."
I said, gesturing towards the oasis.

The wind was picking up and the sand was starting to sting my eyes.
I knew we had to move fast if we wanted to survive.

"I'm not sure."
She said, shaking her head.
"But it looks like a building."
I looked at the horizon and saw it too - a small building rising out of the sand like an oasis in the desert.

"Let's go."
I said, gesturing towards the building.
Johnathan nodded in agreement, then followed Sarah and I towards the building.
As we approached it, I could see that it was some kind of abandoned gas station or convenience store.
It was surrounded by a small parking lot and had a sign that read "Sam's Stop" in faded letters.
Sarah walked towards the building cautiously, then stopped and looked around us at the desert.
"What's wrong?"
I asked her, looking around us at the parking lot.
"I don't know."
She said, shaking her head.
"It just feels weird."
Johnathan looked at her warily, then looked around us at the desert.
Suddenly, the engines grew louder and I could see a group of black SUVs approaching from the distance.
"Oh no."
I said, looking around us frantically.
"What do we do?"
Johnathan asked me, looking around us at the parking lot.
"We need to get inside."
Sarah said, looking at me seriously.
"But how?"
I asked her, looking around us at the building.
It was surrounded by a chain link fence and had a large metal gate that was locked with a padlock.
"We'll have to find another way in."
She said, looking around us at the fence.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching from behind me.
I turned around and saw a figure emerging from the darkness of the building.
It was a tall man with short brown hair and piercing blue eyes.
He was dressed in a black leather jacket and jeans, and he had a large backpack slung over his shoulder.
He approached us cautiously, then stopped in front of Sarah and looked at her seriously.
"Who are you?"
She asked him warily.
"My name is Max."
He said, smiling slightly.
"I've been watching you from inside. What are you doing out here?"
"We're on the run."
I said, looking at him seriously.
