And also focused on her backstory and inability to cry, and now she sets out to fulfill his will.
Chapter 1:
Now, I stand outside a building—but it's not just any building. It's the one my grandpa owned and worked at, a funeral parlor called Underworld Funeral Parlor. In his will, it stated that I should work here as a funeral director. However, I heard they already have a director.
This place kind of gives me the creeps... I don't know why, but there's something weird about it. I shivered, mustering my courage to enter. Inside, it seemed alright, not too creepy as I imagined. Still, it had an eerie style, which I guess is typical for funeral parlors.
The lobby was empty, so I looked around. The parlor had dark walls, with some rooms having candles instead of lights, and others vice versa. The red carpet seemed too intense.
I stumbled upon a room full of coffins; their craftsmanship was beautiful and well-made. Next, I entered a room with a row of chairs and a coffin. I didn't know if there was a body inside, but the room seemed empty. Well, almost empty—a girl sat in one of the chairs, dressed formally and darkly, making me think she worked here.
"Excuse me, miss?" I said, but she leaped up, scared and fearful. I approached her, but then I felt a hand on my shoulder. Startled, I turned back immediately.
A young man smiled warmly at me, seeming familiar, though I couldn't place him. "No need to be afraid; I'm the parlor's main director." He raised his hands, showing no harm.
"Main director? Does that mean...?" I started, noticing his unusual gloves—black on the right, white on the left.
"Are you in need of our service?" he asked calmly.
"I was wondering if you're hiring..." I felt nervous, still surprised by his sudden appearance.
"Hiring? It depends on meeting certain requirements." He chuckled. "Really? Do you want to work here because you like it?"
"It was in my grandpa's will," I replied.
Silence filled the room until he spoke, looking down, "Your grandfather's will?" The girl became even more scared.
"What's your name?" he asked, offering his hand.
"Amelia," I replied nervously.
"Okay, Amelia, you're hired."
I was confused. "Just like that?"
Xander, the director, smiled joyfully. "Hey Raven, take her to the base."
The girl whispered, "Try not to freak out." She led me through a long hallway to a brick wall, which opened, revealing an elevator. I hesitated but followed her in.
As we descended, I wondered if I made the right choice.
Xander said, "So, you're making her work here. My task will wait; I need to make our new member comfortable first.
Chap 2:
The elevator keeps going down..... down..... down......
It's scary to think of what awaits me down there, since I barely know these people and they gave me a job already...
Being stuck here with... Raven... makes me seriously nervous.
But suddenly, it stops.
I gulped as the doors of the elevator started to open, and what awaited me was......
Another long corridor.
Me and that girl Raven walked through the dark, and eerie corridor, my legs were shivering, I was so nervous, it felt like I was being kidnapped.
Soon... we reached a black door. Raven opened it and what was inside well...
It looked like a somewhat normal lounge room. The little musky smell from the corridor went away, and a more serene atmosphere was introduced when we went into the room.
The room had an old carpet, but it looked like it was being treated well. The room in all doesn't look very dirty and somewhat looked serene despite being underground.
But it wasn't empty.
There were people inside the room, 3 people. Who were all dressed in formal black outfits.
A tall, slender, seemingly charming woman.
Who was sitting on a chair talking to a person leaning against the wall.
The person leaning against the wall was a tall, muscular man who looked like they were in their 30's..
And I can't forget about the 3rd person.
It looked like he was sleeping on one of the couches, but then when I entered, he yawned and woke up.
"Um.... so..... this is our new member... that Mister Xander approved..." Raven said in a shy tone.
"Oh? Well, come here, little one. I need to take a good look at you, dont be shy now." Said the woman in a lovely tone.
"It's always Xander that manages to find fresh meat." Said the guy leaning on the wall.
"A... newbie..? Huh..." Said the man lazily mumbling, rubbing his right eye but soon goes back to sleeping.
"Oh, I haven't introduced myself yet. The name's Freya. One of the funeral directors here, well, we're all funeral directors here, aren't we?" The woman said in a warm charming grin.
"Wait, you're all funeral directors?" I said in a nervous tone.
The man replied, "Yes, but Xander is the main one. Since he gives out all these orders and missions to us."
I had a lot of questions to ask them, but I'm too nervous to even put them into words. After all, I was just suddenly approved for the job and then taken to this place.
Everything is still so confusing..
But soon, something came up from behind me, but I'm sure it wasn't Raven...
It was him again. The one they call "the main leading director" of this place.
I instinctively jumped from my place because of my fear. But he, on the other hand, just waved at me with his so-called "warm" smile.
"He just keeps creeping up on me.... how does he do it? Wait, where did he even show up?.." I thought to myself.
"You look a little lost there. It's alright, though. That's how it starts out at first anyway." He said.
"As you know, we're all funeral directors. But the main thing about us.... is that we can see spirits." He said.
"See... spirits...? Like, ghosts?.... uh.." I said there was no way things like spirits exist.
"Not the superstitious type, I see. That's ok, though. But I can assure you that they are indeed real." Said Xander.
"Our job may be giving the dead rest, but our real main job is actually to eradicate these spirits." Said the man leaning against the wall.
"How... do you eradicate them?" I said nervously
"By fighting them, of course." Said Xander.
I kept clutching my shirt tightly due to my nervousness. "I... I can't believe this... this.. isn't some kind of cult, is it?" I said.
"What? No, of course it isn't." Said Xander as he softly chuckles.
The woman on the chair starts to chuckle as well. "Do they really think this is... funny?.." I thought to myself.
"Look, it may be hard to believe, but we are absolutely speaking the truth. Here, if you don't believe me, I can show you some proof..." Said Xander.
But before he could, I ran away as fast as I could and left the room, and headed towards the elevator. "What is up with this place? What's wrong with all of them!?" Luckily, the elevator arrives just in time, so I quickly hopped on before any of them could catch up to me.
"My... grandpa worked here..? But why?? He wasn't insane..." I thought to myself as I slowly started to catch my breath and sit in the corner of the elevator.
"I know this is in his will... but.. I can't just possibly work with them... maybe it would be better to work in a different funeral parlor.."
After all that, I went back home and hopped onto my bed, laying down, I had so much on my mind, but I was too tired to think.
So I just decided to doze off on my bed for now, and just wait until tomorrow to focus on what I'll do next.
"Huh... she left." Said the man leaning against the wall.
Raven was about to catch up to her, but Xander stopped her in time.
"No need, she'll be back soon. I know it." He said.
Chap 3:
During the middle of the night, as I lay there, sleeping on my bed, my very comfy bed, some sharp light suddenly pierces through the door of my room.
It hit my eyes, so I woke up. I rubbed my eyes a little and started to get ready to stand up. I had to investigate where the source of the light was.
I stood up, wobbling a little due to the tiredness, but I pulled myself together and headed to my door.
Though I was sleepy, I still had the consciousness of whether I should investigate or not. The whole situation is really creepy..... errrmm...
But... I had to investigate where the source was coming from.
As I stood in front of my door, I was more nervous than ever. I have no idea what's behind the door. All I can do is just guess.
I was getting goosebumps, and my hands kept shaking. I slowly reached for the door handle and... some floating glowing light?
I slowly approached it, and I was about to touch and then.... it started to form into what looked like... a ghost!?
It started to shriek loudly at me, and I immediately covered my ears.
The.. thing... started flying fast around my house and kept blinding me because of the flashing lights.
I fell on my knees, and I covered my eyes. I slowly started to crawl my way towards my room. But then...
The flashing stopped, and the shrieking as well. I had no idea what happened, so I opened my eyes and saw... him.
It was that funeral director guy again with the strange smile.
He's holding the ghost inside some sort of net.
"Are you alright? This little thing cause quite a stir in your house." He said.
"H-how... are you not scared with that.....-"
It was hard for me to say anything. My words kept trembling away.
He softly chuckles, "Scared? Why should I be scared?"
And then he said, "You know, for a girl who looks so dead all the time, the scared look you have right now makes you quite expressive."
"Anyways, this "thing"... is your grandfather." He said
"....what."
"What... do you mean?.." I said.
"You see, when the dead don't have their wills fulfilled, they would be cursed to still wander this world in soulless forms." He said.
"Grandpa.. wanted me to be... a funeral director.." I said as I still couldn't believe my eyes.
"He basically gave you no choice. He may be small right now, but he'll become larger and stronger the more we live him be. And he'll start to terrorize those around him." He said as he curiously looked at the small spirit.
I replied, "But.... I don't want to be a funeral director.."
"Well, I can destroy him for you. That way, you can still go on and live a normal life without needing to fulfill his will." He said.
I replied, "Wait! No! Don't do it!.."
"I... I can't do that to him... that's my grandpa after all..." I thought to myself.
"But if I don't, you'll have to become a funeral director." He looks at me, grinning
"I...." I couldn't really say anything. I love my grandpa.
He's my family.
Looking down, I replied, "F-fine.. I'll do it. I'll be a funeral director."
Xander looked at me smiling. It looked like he knew I was gonna make that choice.
"Well, you start tomorrow. For now, I'll keep him in safe keeping until you are officially appointed as a funeral director." He said.
I sighed, but then I also remembered...
How the heck did he know where I live!?
Anyways, after all that, I went back to my room and laid on my bed again. A lot of things kept surging through my mind.
Did I really make the right choice?
The next day... I was officially appointed as a funeral director of Underworld Funeral Parlor.
As I wear my black, formal, outfit, I try to put on a good, cordial front. Despite what happened last night.
I sighed, but as I looked back at the net where my grandpa's spirit was being kept, his spirit form dissipated into the air.
I looked back at him and waved goodbye. I fulfilled his wishes just... for him.
Suddenly, someone creeped up behind me and touched my shoulder.
(We all know who this is, right? - author)
I jumped back, startled, and saw him again.
"Seriously...! How do you do that!?.." I said.
"Sorry, it's just that, I'm glad you made the right choice." Says Xander.
"I... I hope I did." I said.
After all that, everyone came up to me and started introducing themselves.
"My, my, look at you! You look so adorable~" said the slender woman from before. If I remember correctly, her name was... Freya?"
"T-thank you.." I said, but then another man came up to me and said, "Welp, glad to have you joining us, Amelia. I'm Gray. The big guy from before."
I replied, "Oh, it's you.. I see."
Even Raven came by and introduced herself, though I already knew she was a funeral director.
The sleepy guy came in, tired as ever. But despite his laziness, he still decided to introduce himself to me.
"Hey.. new girl... I'm Collin. Do you still remember me...? Oh well... don't know, don't care..." He said. After that he just walked away slowly.
Now that I see it, both his eyes had very different colors.
Anyways, after all that, I officially start my days as a funeral director.
