As the ultrasound machine hummed softly in the room, Anita lay back on the examination table, surrounded by her friends.
The image of her growing baby appeared on the screen.
And she couldn't help but smile at the sight of her little one kicking and squirming inside her.
Anita Smith (FL)
Oh,look at him go!
Anita exclaimed, her eyes filled with joy as she watched the baby scanners capture every tiny movement.
Anita Smith (FL)
he's going to be a little firecracker, just like her mom.
Her friends clucked with approval, cooing over the baby and asking questions about how Anita was feeling.
But then her friend asked about her his husband, and the mood in the room shifted.
Anita's smile faltered, and she glanced away, suddenly feeling a pang of loneliness.
Anita Smith (FL)
He's...not around.
*she replied, her voice tinged with sadness*
Her friends exchanged worried glances, sensing the heaviness in the air.
Quickly, they tried to change the subject, talking about the nursery decor and baby names instead.
But Anita couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that settled in her chest.
Anita found herself in a hospital room, the sounds of labor echoing around her.
Sweat glistened on her brow as she pushed through each contraction, her hands gripping the side of the bed tightly.
And then, finally, after what felt like an eternity, her son was born-a tiny, wriggling bundle of joy.
The nurse gently placed the baby in Anita's arms, and as she looked down at her son's precious face, a bittersweet mix of emotions washed over her.
Her husband was not there to witness this moment, to share in the joy of their son's birth. Instead, he was miles away, wrapped up in his own troubles and doubts.
But Anita refused to let her disappointment show. She squeezed her son tightly, pressing a kiss to his soft cheek, and forced a smile for the cameras that snapped away in the corner of the room.
It wasn't the picture-perfect moment she had always imagined, but it was her reality now- a reality she would face with courage and strength for the sake of her little boy.

Episode # 2
The sun had just begun to peek though the curtains as Anita stirred from her slumber.
She yawned and rubbed her eyes before swinging her legs over the bed, ready to start another day.
She made her way to the kitchen, humming a tune under her breath as she set about to making breakfast for her teenage son.
As she cracked eggs into a pan and flipped some bacon, she couldn't help but smile as she watched her son stumble into the kitchen, still half asleep.
Jasper Smith (Anita's son)
Morning, mom.
*He mumbled, his words muffled by a mouthful of cereal.*
Anita Smith (FL)
*chuckled as she ruffled his hair.*
Good morning, sleepy head. Don't forget to brush your teeth before you head out.
Jasper nodded, finishing up his breakfast before rushing off to get ready for school.
Anita followed him to his room, helping him pick out clothes and making sure he had everything he needed for the day.
As she watched him pull on his shirt and grab his backpack, she felt a swell of gratitude in her chest.
Despite the fact that her husband had never known about their son since his birth, she was thankful every day for the gift of motherhood.
Anita Smith (FL)
Off you go, kiddo.
*she said giving him a quick hug before shooing him out the door.*
Have a great day at school!
Jasper Smith (Anita's son)
*waved as he raced down the sidewalk, already late for the bus.*
Anita Smith (FL)
* chuckled to herself, shaking her head at his antics.*
As she stood in the doorway, waving goodbye. With a smile on her face, she closed the door and headed back inside to tackle whatever the day had in store.

EPISODE # 3
Anita picked up a stray sock off the floor, her heart heavy with the weight of the never-ending chores of motherhood.
As she dusted off the stack of books on her son's shelf, her hand brushed against a crumpled piece of paper hidden amongst the clutter.
Curious, she unfurled it, her eyes scanning the familiar handwriting of her son.
Her heart plummeted as she read the words he had penned, a silent scream echoing in her mind.
Jasper Smith (Anita's son)
📝 * I wish Dad could come back on my 16th birthday, and bring me PS5. I know strong people cry at night and I always see mom cry at night. Please make my 16th birthday wish come true. Dad.*
Tears welled up in her eyes as she realized the depth of her son's longing for his absent father.
She sank into the floor, trembling with the weight of her grief.
She clutched the letter to her chest, the words branded into her soul like a scar that would never heal. Furthermore, she sobbed uncontrollably.
Anita Smith (FL)
*thought* How could I ever measure up to my son's expectations of my strength when I feel so weak broken inside?
