Madhu

Suddenly, Rahul walks into the cafeteria, chatting with a group of friends. He’s carrying a folded piece of paper in his hand.

(Heart sinking) Another letter?
Madhu
(Squinting) Seems like it. He’s still Mr. Popular, huh? How do you compete with that?
Aradhya
(Feeling a wave of panic) I don’t. I can’t. It’s too late anyway.
Madhu
(Leaning closer) Aradhya, you need to let go. Either tell him, or let him go.
Aradhya
(Eyes fixed on Rahul) I just… I don’t know how.
Rahul suddenly glances in their direction, smiles, and waves at Aradhya.
Rahul
Hey! Aradhya, Madhu! What are you guys doing here?
Aradhya
(Heart racing) Oh, just… coffee.
Madhu
(Raising an eyebrow) Right. Coffee. Totally not watching you from across the room.
Rahul laughs, oblivious to the tension between the two girls.
Rahul
Catch you guys later then. Gotta head to class.
Aradhya watches as he walks away, feeling the weight of unspoken words grow heavier.

Aradhya
(Whispering) I know.

Setting: College Courtyard
Aradhya
(Sitting on a bench, staring at her phone) Should I text him? Say something? No, no… bad idea.
Suddenly, a shadow falls over her. She looks up to see Ananya, another classmate, with a smirk on her face.
Ananya
(Crossing her arms) Still daydreaming about Rahul, huh?
Aradhya
(Surprised) What? No, why would you say that?
Ananya
(Rolling her eyes) Please, Aradhya. Half the college knows. You’re practically glued to him every chance you get.
Aradhya
(Blushing) We’re just friends. Nothing more.
Ananya
(Laughing) If that’s what you want to believe. But trust me, guys like Rahul? They don’t stay single for long. I heard he’s getting serious about someone else.
Aradhya’s heart skips a beat.
Aradhya
(Trying to act calm) Someone else?
Ananya
(Shrugging) Yeah. I saw him talking to Priya the other day. Looked pretty cozy if you ask me.
Aradhya’s mind races. Priya, the smart, beautiful girl everyone admired, was definitely someone who could catch Rahul’s eye.
Aradhya
(Feeling her chest tighten) Oh… I didn’t know that.
Ananya
(Leaning closer, smirking) If you’re planning on doing something, you better hurry up. Otherwise, Priya will be walking off with your guy.
Ananya walks away, leaving Aradhya stunned. Madhu arrives, noticing Aradhya’s pale expression.
