Lorena is thirty years old, a beautiful woman with dark hair and grayish-green eyes. She married Alberto Calle when she was twenty and has been a loving wife, devoted to her home and her husband. She has never been able to give him a child, something she has always regretted.
Tomorrow marks their tenth wedding anniversary, and she is preparing everything for the celebration. As she does every year, she wants to make it special, and this time she has chosen to decorate with orchids. However, she is looking for a specific one for their aluminum anniversary, but none are sold near where she lives. So, she takes the metro to a flower shop she saw advertised on social media, which seemed very appealing.
When Lorena enters the shop, she is captivated by the lighting fixtures—they are identical to the ones in her living room. She walks calmly until a boy of about five with light brown eyes runs past her and bumps into her.
Lorena smiles at him. It’s astonishing how much he resembles her husband, Alberto.
"I'm sorry, Betito is a very mischievous boy," says the young woman chasing after him. She takes the boy with her toward the back of the shop.
Lorena continues looking at the flowers, though she feels a sense of melancholy. She assumes the little boy is probably named Alberto, given the diminutive "Betito." She can’t help but think that if she had been able to give her husband a child, he might have looked just like this boy and been named the same way. It’s a painful subject for her.
When she pushes those thoughts aside, Lorena finds herself staring at some Cymbidium orchids, which she finds beautiful. They are very similar to the ones her husband gave her when he proposed.
"I’d like to buy these orchids," Lorena tells a saleswoman.
The saleswoman hurriedly prepares the orchids while Lorena goes to the counter to pay. She swipes her card and signs the receipt.
As she hands the receipt back to the cashier, she notices a photo of the little boy she saw running earlier, blowing out the candle on his birthday cake. The boy has the same dimples as her husband. "What a strange coincidence," she thinks to herself.
"He’s such a lively boy. Is he related to any of you?" Lorena asks, feeling a strange urge to learn more about the child.
"He’s the son of the owner of this flower shop. She had to go to the doctor for a pregnancy check-up and left him in our care," the cashier replies.
The cashier’s phone rings, and she asks Lorena for a moment to answer the call.
"Yes, ma’am, Beto is fine. As always, he’s very restless and asking for you. (The interlocutor says something.) Yes, ma’am, don’t worry. Mr. Alberto’s ticket is already purchased—I’m holding it in my hands right now," the cashier says. But as she tries to end the call, the ticket slips from her hand and flutters to the floor like a leaf in the wind.
Lorena kindly picks up the ticket but freezes when she sees the passenger’s name: Alberto Calle. Could it be a coincidence? Almost instinctively, she checks the ID number on the ticket. It’s impossible—it’s the same number as her husband’s.
"Thank you for picking it up," the cashier says, taking the ticket from Lorena’s hand.
"Excuse me, is Mr. Alberto Calle related to the owner?" Lorena asks, her voice trembling with nervousness.
"I’m sorry, but that’s personal information," the cashier replies.
Lorena takes out her phone and shows the cashier a photo of her husband.
"Is this the same person?" she asks, barely able to stay calm.
The saleswoman, who has returned with the orchids, exchanges a glance with the cashier. They can both see that the woman who came to buy flowers has suddenly turned pale.
"He’s the owner’s husband and the father of the little boy who bumped into you," the saleswoman reveals.
Lorena steps back, her anguish evident from her trembling lips. She struggles to breathe as the truth sinks in. Her world is crumbling before her eyes. Her ten years of marriage mean nothing. The man she loves has another family—a five-year-old son and another child on the way. She cannot stop the tears that well up in her eyes, blurring her vision. She cannot escape the heartbreak. The betrayal cuts through her soul, leaving a trail of desolation.
Gabriel Larrea is thirty-seven years old, not extremely handsome, but he has an elegance that can be very attractive. He has ventured into politics, managing to become a parliamentarian. His political party has convinced him that he can be a great presidential candidate; however, studies conducted for voting intention show resistance to the fact that he is a single father, to whom a series of adventures have been attributed, most of which have been fabricated and not real, since he has never presented a formal partner.
...Gabriel Larrea...
"Mr. Larrea, they called from your house, the girls did it again, the new nanny has left the house immediately, and for now, Mrs. Margarita has calmed the little ones with their favorite dish," Diana, his personal assistant, informed him.
Gabriel has two little girls, Samantha and Alexandra, they are seven years old, they are beautiful and extremely mischievous girls. They deeply love their father, but deep down they desire the maternal love they imagine. The little girls' mother died in a violent assault they suffered when they were returning from an evening out, and the little ones were three years old. That day they stayed with the nanny, and their mother never returned. That's why they detest the term nanny to take care of them.
That violent assault and the helplessness of not being able to prevent his wife's death, which sent him to the hospital for a long period, motivated Gabriel to venture into politics to reduce citizen insecurity; and it is in this area where he has focused the most in his legislative work, in an effort to feel less guilty for not being able to do anything to save his wife.
...Samantha and Alexandra Larrea...
"That agency never sends me competent nannies, my daughters are loving girls with a lot of energy, which no nanny has been able to focus, I'm going to look for another agency that sends me better employees," Gabriel said uncomfortably, putting on his jacket.
"Fortunately, there are no meetings today, your advisors are working on the new bill, I'll have them send it to your email," Diana said.
"Thank you, Diana, even if I have to review it at midnight, I'll make sure the bill is perfect, it's important to be able to convince the rest of the parliamentarians," Gabriel expressed, before saying goodbye to his assistant.
He had to go home immediately, he needs to quickly find someone who can understand his daughters and take care of them, the woman who ran away in terror was the eighth nanny who had resigned in the last year.
When their father arrived home, the little girls hung around Gabriel's neck, who had no choice but to lift both of them up, while they looked at him tenderly.
"Daddy, we're big girls now," said Samantha.
"Big girls don't need a nanny," Alexandra expressed with a pout.
"Big girls don't stick gum in people's hair; or put jelly in their shoes. You need someone to help you, Mrs. Margarita and Mrs. Norma are too old to take care of you all the time," Gabriel said, while his little ones lowered their heads recognizing that they had gone a little too far.
"My friends don't have a nanny, they have a mom," Samantha replied.
"Your mom is in heaven, I already told you," Gabriel said affectionately, although he notes that this explanation doesn't seem to be enough for the little ones anymore.
"But we want one on earth, can't you get us a mom forever?" Alexandra asked, pouting and giving him a tender look.
"Someday, sweetheart, I'm sorry, daddy will someday find a mom for you. I love you very much, my loves," Gabriel said, hugging his daughters.
"We love you, daddy," both sisters express. The little ones yearn to have what they see in other classmates, a loving mother who never leaves their side.
Gabriel feels a terrible frustration every time he feels the sorrow of his daughters for not having their mother by their side, they have not been able to enjoy the tenderness and warmth that the most sublime love that exists naturally provides.
However, he refuses to fall in love again, he already has enough worries on his mind, he lives worried about the safety of the little ones, he is afraid of not being able to protect someone else, that's why he keeps his distance, he seems cold and indifferent, even when a woman provokes some kind of interest in him; nothing strong enough to make him approach.
The woman who manages to make him fall in love sincerely again has not appeared in Gabriel Larrea's life; however, that is about to change.
Alberto Calle is an engineer and forty years old, due to his profession he has traveled constantly throughout the country, he has light brown eyes and brown hair, the passing of the years has consumed the attractiveness he possessed in his youth, but he believes that he is still irresistible.
...Alberto Calle...
He met Lorena because she was a classmate of his younger sister; she was essentially a very beautiful girl, and although he courted her while she was in school, he only started dating her when she turned eighteen; two years later he married her.
Her parents died when she was very young, and she lived with her maternal aunt, who was her only family; she didn't have much money to go to a university, but she was able to study executive secretarial skills, planning to go to university with the money she managed to save while working.
Although she worked during the first year of marriage, Alberto asked her to stop doing so, because they would start trying to have a child, and it was better for her to be calm and preparing everything at home; moving away from the capital where Lorena had always lived, leaving behind the only family she had and her friends.
Unfortunately, the years passed and Lorena did not manage to get pregnant, when they went to the doctor, they indicated that the possibility of getting pregnant naturally was almost nil, perhaps with some assisted fertilization technique; however, that was quite expensive.
Although Lorena insisted on getting a job, to raise the necessary money. Alberto assured her that he would save for it, that she was very young and that in a couple of years they would have the necessary money; years passed and there was never enough money.
Six years ago, on one of his work trips, Alberto met Paulina Del Valle, a woman who, although not pretty-faced, had a quite seductive way of being; Alberto ended up giving in to desire, and ended up starting a relationship with Paulina. Starting his double life in two different cities, making sure that none of the women knew of the other's existence.
Lorena doesn't even know how she managed to get home after finding out about her husband's deception, she in her entire life had not had eyes for anyone other than him, her entire life revolved around him. She is sitting on the bathroom floor hugging her legs and letting the shower water fall on her body; feeling that with the same lips that Alberto kissed that other woman he also kissed her hurt her, that with the same hands that caressed the other he then came to caress her she repudiated, having to assimilate that after making love to another he would return to her bed was disgusting to her.
"Lorena cries all this night, you are only allowed to cry for him tonight, then you are going to bury this love, dress yourself in dignity, demand a divorce and that he leaves your life, do you understand Lorena?, it's over, it's all over," she said to herself out loud, like a mantra that she had to repeat over and over again to gain courage and execute the action she had planned.
The pain of betrayal was stabbing, heartbreaking, the disappointment and sadness is what the soul is covered with when you find out, like a desperate internal scream that seeks to get out, that despairs and bewilders; that knot in the stomach, as if an emptiness took over the whole body and the ground under the feet disappeared and you started falling into an endless abyss.
That night Lorena cried, for that love that crumbled from one moment to the next before her eyes, she cried for the years of her life that she gave with her whole being, she cried for the life that she saw pass and that was now reduced to nothing.
Seven in the morning, on the tenth anniversary of her marriage to Lorena, Alberto Calle opens the door of his house; yesterday he sent her a message saying that he was already traveling and that he would be home early, although it appeared as if it had been seen, but she never replied to the message, as it was late when he sent it he only imagined that she was upset.
When Alberto walked through the living room, he came across two suitcases, he found it strange, there were no balloons, decorations, it was not full of flowers, and an excited Lorena filling him with kisses.
Only on the center table the orchids that Lorena bought yesterday and that led her to know the double life of her husband.
"I bought them at Floreria 'Mi maravilloso jardin' I think you know the owner perfectly," said Lorena slowly descending the stairs.
Alberto opened his eyes in surprise, how could Lorena know that place, how much does she know about his other woman, what should he do he wonders, how much does Lorena know about his double life and everything else he has deceived her in.
