First impressions

Gabrielle awoke to the soft glow of dawn filtering through her curtains. She stretched lazily, savoring the last moments of peace before the excitement of the day ahead. Today was her first day at the Université de Paris, one of the most elite colleges in the city, and she was determined to make a lasting impression.

Throwing off her covers, Gabrielle swung her legs out of bed and made her way to the suite bathroom. The cold tiles under her feet sent a shiver up her spine, but the invigorating shower soon warmed her up. As she lathered the lavender-scented soap, she mentally reviewed her plan for the day. She needed to nail every detail: from her appearance to her first interaction with professors and classmates.

Stepping out of the shower, Gabrielle wrapped herself in a fluffy towel and moved to her walk-in closet. She chose a chic yet professional outfit: a crisp white blouse tucked into high-waisted black trousers, paired with a tailored blazer. She slipped on a pair of black heels that clicked confidently against the hardwood floor as she walked. Her reflection in the mirror showed a young woman ready to take on the world.

In the kitchen, Gabrielle prepared a light breakfast of freshly baked croissants and a bowl of mixed fruit. She sipped her coffee slowly, savoring the rich flavor, as she watched the early morning light play across the Parisian skyline. The city was waking up, and so was she.

With breakfast finished, she packed her bag meticulously, ensuring she had all her essentials: notebooks, pens, her laptop, and a planner. Gabrielle grabbed her keys from the counter and headed out. The bold clicks of her heels echoed through the grand ballroom of her family's apartment, a sound that always boosted her confidence. Today, she felt especially empowered. She was ready to dominate the university's exam records and become the best in her field of medical research.

The drive through the picturesque streets of Paris was both calming and exhilarating. The city's beauty never failed to amaze her, with its elegant architecture and vibrant atmosphere. As she arrived at the campus, the sight of the prestigious university took her breath away. The historic buildings, lush green lawns, and the bustling student life all combined to create an inspiring scene. This would be the place where she would leave her mark.

After parking her car in a designated spot, Gabrielle stepped out, feeling a sense of purpose. She retrieved her phone from her bag and dialed her best friend, Jules. As the phone rang, she walked toward the front desk.

"Where the hell are you, sleepyhead? I hope you're still not in bed," she teased as soon as Jules picked up.

"Relax, Gabi . I'll be there in ten minutes," Jules replied, her voice still groggy from sleep.

Gabrielle smiled and ended the call, approaching the front desk with a confident stride. She collected her college ID card and class schedule, thanking the receptionist with a polite nod. With everything in hand, she entered her first class: biochemistry.

The lecture hall was already filling up with students. Gabrielle chose a seat near the front, eager to absorb every word from the professor. She arranged her materials neatly on the desk and waited for Jules to arrive.

A few minutes later, Jules burst into the room, her smirk instantly catching Gabrielle's attention. "What's with the face, Jules?" Gabrielle asked, curious about her friend's expression.

"You won't believe it, Gabi. I saw the perfect creature that can ever exists on this entire planet, and he's here in our college. Can you believe it?" Jules said, her eyes wide with excitement.

Gabrielle scoffed, rolling her eyes. "The only perfect thing you should care about is your grades, missy."

Jules pouted but couldn't suppress her excitement. The two friends settled into their seats as the professor began the lecture. Gabrielle found herself completely absorbed in the material, taking detailed notes and asking insightful questions. She felt a surge of satisfaction, knowing she was already on the right track.

As the class came to an end, the professor asked Gabrielle to get her previous notes from the front desk or the class president. Nodding, she packed her things and left the classroom with Jules in tow.

As they made their way to the front desk, Gabrielle accidentally bumped into someone. She looked up and found herself staring at a tall, athletic-built guy who had been facing the other direction. He turned around and looked down at her with a smirk.

"It's you, Miss Martin," he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

Gabrielle recognized the voice instantly. With a grumpy face, she replied, "It's you, Leroy."

There was a moment of serious staring between them, an unspoken declaration of the rivalry that had always existed. Thèo Leroy, the golden boy of the university, was not someone Gabrielle was thrilled to see. They had competed in every academic arena throughout their high school years, and it seemed that their rivalry would continue here as well.

"This is going to be interesting," Leroy said, his smirk widening. "I hope you're ready for a challenge."

Gabrielle's eyes narrowed. "I was born ready. And you, Leroy, better keep up."

With that, she turned on her heel and continued towards the front desk, Jules following closely behind. Once they collected the necessary notes, they headed back to their next class. Jules couldn't help but comment on the encounter.

"I can't believe Leroy is here too," she said. "This is going to be one hell of a year."

Gabrielle nodded, her mind already racing with strategies to outshine Leroy. "He's not going to know what hit him," she replied confidently.

The rest of the day passed in a blur of lectures, introductions, and navigating the sprawling campus. Gabrielle remained focused, her determination never wavering. Each class brought new information and challenges, but she met them all head-on.

By late afternoon, she and Jules had a break between classes. They decided to grab a coffee at a nearby café. Sitting by the window, they watched the bustling life outside while discussing their plans.

"So, how do you plan to beat Leroy this time?" Jules asked, sipping her latte.

Gabrielle smiled thoughtfully. "By being better prepared, staying ahead of the curve, and not letting him distract me. He might be good, but I've got something he doesn't."

"What's that?" Jules inquired, leaning in with interest.

"A relentless drive to be the best," Gabrielle said, her eyes shining with determination.

Jules grinned. "Well, you certainly have the confidence. I believe in you, Gab."

As they finished their coffee and headed back to campus, Gabrielle felt a renewed sense of purpose. She was ready to take on any challenge, whether it was an intense lecture, a difficult exam, or a rival like Leroy. The day might have been long and tiring, but it was only the beginning of her journey.

The final class of the day was just as engaging as the others. Gabrielle's mind was sharp, her focus unbreakable. She participated actively, impressing both her peers and the professor. When the class finally ended, she gathered her things and left the lecture hall with Jules.

"Let's celebrate surviving our first day," Jules suggested. "Dinner at that new Italian place?"

Gabrielle agreed, looking forward to unwinding after such an intense day. As they walked towards the parking lot, she spotted Leroy again, talking with a group of students. He glanced over and gave her a challenging look. Gabrielle met his gaze with a steady one of her own.

This is war, she thought to herself. But she was ready for it.

The evening passed in a blur of laughter, good food, and the comforting presence of her best friend. By the time Gabrielle returned to her apartment, she felt a sense of accomplishment. The first day had been a success, but she knew it was only the beginning. She had a long road ahead, filled with hard work and fierce competition.

As she prepared for bed, Gabrielle couldn't help but think about the future. She was determined to excel, to make her mark on the university, and to prove that she was the best. With a final glance at her reflection in the mirror, she smiled.

Tomorrow was another day, another opportunity to shine. You got this Martin you are the best remember that.
