Can You Hold My Hand (and Never Let Go)?
Introduction
The 22nd century was definitely the best of times that ever passed on earth, technologically speaking of course
Reporter 1
It has been finally announced that the research team on Jupiter have finally returned home safely, and also bearing great news!!
Every industry was booming in more and more inventions and technology
Reporter 3
Today makes the celebration of thirty years of a pollution free earth thanks to our amazing scientists!!
Until we reached the end of the century, and suddenly it all changed
And it all started with the portals almost ten feet high.
Reporter 4
Urgent news! Another portal was sighted last night in New Orleans! What are they and what do they mean to our planet
And they just kept appearing all over the globe, one day after another
Reporter 2
Urgent news! Scientists have finally been able to give us an update on the portals, it seems like they are detecting mass live forms behind the portals, have we finally been able to communicate with other species of the universe? If so, what do they want? And have they come in peace?
A month later the portals finally opened, bringing a massive army of strange creatures, they attacked fiercely, though they didn't seem to possess anything related to technology, in fact the only thing that seemed to fend them off was the inventions and weapons of humans
These creatures only possessed magic
And the great war went on for almost a decade taking many lives of both humans and the aliens,
and in that time, both parties were able to learn more about each other, humans were interested in the magic these aliens had, and so they studied it, trying to figure it out, and the aliens learned the human languages, now even more powerful as time went on
The humans finally cracked the codes of the magic, and they found out that the only way to possess it is to completely let go of the technology, the only thing that kept their defenses against the aliens
And so driven by their own greed for power and arrogance, humans chose magic over technology thinking they can defeat the Aliens at their own craft and that's what lead them towards their lost
Now, almost two centuries later, the earth is controlled by these foreign creatures, they supervise how everything goes on earth that no longer has any signs of technology, but rather magic, they control the population afraid that humans could overthrow them if their numbers grew, so everything 20 years, almost half of the population of earth would be slaughtered
The magic is divided to Five parts:
_Common magic: like being able to conjure objects and artifacts, most people have this type of magic.
_Natural magic: like being able to control plants and their growth, less common but also found everywhere.
_Mild magic: like super strength and super speed anything associated with personal abilities, even less common but not very rare.
_Rare magic: Like being able to control and manipulate a natural element, like fire, light or water etc., this type of magic is super rare, and is almost impossible to find.
_Extreme magic: like shape-shifting, teleportation, and healing, also with anything that involves controlling and or reading minds. Rarely found, most people who have these abilities are feared and respected, their magic is super strong
_ Mythical magic:a magic that's super legendary, almost talked about as a myth
After they lost the war, humans got divided into four groups:
_Normies: people who are mostly possess common types of magic, so they choose to live their lives normally without making much impact on the world.
_Traitors: who choose to help the aliens further in their rampage seeking protection and validation from them, they are the most hated humans, they spend their lives serving the aliens.
_Magicless: these people still believe in the supremacy of technology instead of magic, they still chose to pursue technology.
_Rebels: these people chose to rebel against the control of the aliens, they still believe they can defeat the Aliens, it is a large organization formed by 13 factors against the globe lead by people who are seen as the most powerful in the world, they are on the constant hunt of aliens and they seen as foolish idiots who believe in the impossible.
Also, because all technology and science was abandoned, only the Magicless are literate in this world, no one reads.
Chapter 1
It was just another ordinary fall as two figures one taller than the other approached a distant bar
Viktor
Just don't worry ok? You're going to be fine up there. Just stick with what you practiced, and you'll be alright.
Helena
Yeah.. Sure.. But what if things.. I don't know.. Like turn south, what if the "Traitors"-
Viktor
No no! None of that!
He puts his hands on her shoulders
Viktor
Stop giving yourself a reason to fail kid, you're more than capable of doing this, okay? Just do what you practiced, and it'll all be okay, and what are you worried about? You got me
He puts her in a chokehold under his arm and rubs her scalp with his knuckles
Helena desperately tries to get rid of his chokehold, but she still remains unsuccessful until he lets her go with a laugh
Helena
Ha Ha so funny Vik. But still, thanks though.. You always know the best things to say.
Viktor
No problem kid, I guess this is my queue, I'll see you later.
He blends in with the forest that they're walking inside, but she keeps on walking forward. Helena plays with her ring all the way down a hill she sighs as she stops in front of a shabby cement place. Noises of clanking cups, laughter and chattering are heard from a distance. She stands there and takes a long and deep breath before walking inside
The bartender takes a good look at her, and greets her with a smile and she takes a seat in front of the bartender who is still kindly smiling at her
Diego
Hello stranger, you seem to be quite new in town what can I get you starting with?
Helena
A pint of beer please
She pulls out a sack of golden coins making a lot of noise so people start looking at each other then at Helena envy and malice spread along their faces, the bartender looks worried around the bar, and then he fixes his gaze at a person sleeping on top of a table in the far corner his face is not visible, then he looks back at Helena with a smile still, but the mood shifts so his smile is no longer comforting but it seems slightly threatening
Diego
Sorry stranger but we don't deal with money here, but rather with a much more useful thing..
Diego
We deal with informations here, the more expensive your drink is, the more informations you have to pay forward.
Helena
Oh.. Sure, and how 'expensive' is a pint of Beer
Diego
Very. So what do you have for me stranger?
Helena
Maybe... The information that I can give you... Maybe that there's some "Rebels" hiding near this bar?
The bartender's smile seem to have been gone and he only glares at her as Helena watches the people leaving the bar when they heard her drop those news, too afraid to even be associated with the Rebels.
Diego
(*Threatening*) Do you have any idea what you just did?
Helena looks at him in absolute terror, she suddenly feels an arm getting slung on her back and hears a glass being smacked at the table, the person was a shorthaired woman who seemed still sleepy or drunk
Kode
Sorry about that Diego, but she still has a terrible sense of humor, I'll take care of her. Let's go Helena.
The woman began dragging Helena out of the bar gripping her a little harshly, the other girl was only shocked at the behavior of this woman, who is she and how does she know her name? Was her cover already blown? She pulls her hand away
Kode
(*Turns to face her abruptly*) Listen here you little sh*t, you and your friend over there need to leave here, before you'll regret it am I clear?
Helena
Who the f*ck do you think you are?
Kode
First of all, you interrupted my nap by your damn cliche entrance, then you somehow decided to cause trouble for me and for yourself, I don't have enough patience today to deal with your stupidity, so go fucking leave!!
Helena
And what's in it for you? You can just run away like everyone else did.
Kode
Well I can't, because I made a deal with Diego to protect him and his bar when idiots like you walk in .
Helena
Sorry for that, but I'm definitely not leaving because of your incompetence
Kode
(*Sighs and rubs the bridge of her nose*) Fine, if the both of you want to die then be my guest, what do I care anyway?
The woman leaves Helena and walks back to the bar, a rumble shakes through the air suddenly and the woman yells 'Great!' In the distance as she throws her hands in the air suddenly the ground shakes violently and Viktor comes running towards Helena with a frown
Viktor
We need to leave seems like some Traitors, reported us as soon as you walked in the bar, the aliens are on the way.
Helena looks down to the woman who looks unfazed as the rumble gets closer, she has a sword in hand, this woman must be crazy or on a death wish, a person with common magic can never face aliens head on
Helena
This is my fault, she's going to die like that we need to save her Vik.
Viktor
Wait a minute.. She's too confident for a Conjurer, just look at her
Helena
She's going to die If we don't help right now Viktor!
Just as she was about to rush towards her, Viktor grabbed her a little too harshly, his vision only focusing on Kode,
. Gray clouds surrounded their area without a former warning, it was actually a sunny day, but the weather seemed to suddenly change
Suddenly from amongst the trees a large alien body appeared, it was a giant alien, it was a Conjurer with a spear in his hand, thankfully he was the only one, but he is also not easy to be dealt with
Kode rushed towards the giant gripping her sword tightly, as the gray clouds above rumbled
Thunder stuck, and it struck nowhere else but Kode, her movements immediately fastened she jumped Hugh with her sword in hand, the giant barely had anytime to react as she finally sliced through his head the thunder still hitting her as she continued to make sure that he was completely dead.
Viktor
Told you, definitely not a Conjurer..
Chapter 2
Kode sighed as she pulled her sword away finally sure the giant is complete dead. She pulled out a cloth and started cleaning it immediately.
Viktor and Helena walked closer to her, more and more questions filled their heads, who is this woman and what exactly is her power
Viktor
So? Helena tells me you knew about me?
Viktor stood towering above both of the girls though Kode was tall, even taller than Helena, but she still had to look up at Viktor who tried his best to make an intimidating expression, but she seemed unfazed
Kode
You two weren't being exactly discreet.
Helena
How did you kill him by yourself? It's a giant, it should take at least three people and a solid plan.
Kode
(*Rolls her eyes*) well there will probably be more of them if you want to try your luck you're welcome to stay
Kode started walking away from them, she threw her sword inside the bar and it seemed to move on its own, soon after another man walked out, but he looked unfamiliar, Helena definitely didn't see him inside that bar before, he carried a bag and walked out with a timid smile as he waved at the pair before following behind Kode
He was tall almost as tall as Viktor and his body was almost as buff as him as well, maybe he was in hiding, but what happened to the sword? The only logical explanation Helena could find that, it was thrown because it was damaged
Helena ran after her as Viktor only followed Soon after he inspected the giant's body
Helena
What's your magic class?
Kode
None of your business
The man warned her and she sighed in frustration. Still she didn't apologize nor answer.
Helena
I'm Helena by the way, and that's Viktor.
Kode
I'm Kode and this is Tebb
Tebb
Yup, unique name, isn't it?
Helena
(*Polite smile*) It suits you.
He Chuckled as she said that, and he slung his arm over Kode's shoulder, she did seem pissed, but she never pushed him away.
Viktor
Where are you guys headed? The only thing this way is...
Viktor dreaded the last part, testing the water to know if they were all headed the same direction.
Tebb
(*Wide smile*) The Rebels Base? Yup, that's where we're going.
He immediately earned an elbow to his stomach by Kode, who looked even more pissed than before
Helena couldn't lie she was indeed relieved to know that they were Rebels
Viktor
Maybe they didn't want to share Lena.
She was cut off by a warning look from Viktor she finally noticed how tense Kode looked, and he probably thought that striking her nerves wasn't the best idea especially after they saw how strong she was.
Viktor
Maybe we can go together, after all we're headed the same way right?
Tebb
Yeah, that seems like a nice idea right Kode?
He looked down at her as she grumbled, clearly knowing that she can't say no to him, Helena Wondered what type of relationship they had together
Viktor
(*Chuckle*) It's settled then! So Tebb can we ask you about your power since Kode doesn't like talking about it?
Tebb
Uh yeah I guess I can answer that, I can actually shape-shift, but like only to one thing.
He immediately shape-shifted into the same sword Kode was holding earlier, and she held him before he shifted back to his normal look with the silly grin never leaving his face
Helena
So you're the sword!?
Tebb
(*Chuckle*) Yeah I guess I am.
Helena
That's Rare magic! You're so lucky!
Kode
Please don't inflate his ego even more.
Tebb
(*Chuckle*) A$$hole! Don't mind her, what about you guys?
Viktor
(*Smile*) I have super strength, so I'm on the mild side.
Helena
Uh.. I Have... Super speed.. So... Mild as well
Kode looked at her with a slightly furrowed eyebrow, clearly seeing through her lie, but she still didn't say anything.
The trip took them two days and one night before they reached the Rebel base, Tebb seemed to get along with Vik and Helena pretty fast, but Kode was still reserved, only speaking when spoken to, never saying too much
As soon as they made it into the base it all felt like home to Helena, after all this is the place that she grew up in
Viktor
I guess this is where we bid you guys goodbye then, it was really great getting to meet you Tebb and you as well Kode
Tebb gave them both a tight hug as the goodbyes seemed to affect him, Kode only waved from afar, rolling her eyes from time to time when Tebb seemed to exaggerate
Helena had finally settled in, so it was time for her to go give her report to the leader of the base about her mission, as she approached her residence she suddenly bumped into someone
Helena
You're going to the leader as well?
Helena
It's great seeing you again.
As Helena headed to the door to knock Kode kicked the door open. She only stood there shocked and afraid of how the leader would react, she was number 4 of the strongest Rebel leaders across the globe, so she was definitely respected and mostly feared
Maze
Who the- Oh, Kode, Hi.
The expression on Helena's face was just utter and complete shock
Maze
Oh, uh, Helena, you're here for here for your report? Can you come back a little while later please?
Helena
Uh yeah, of course leader.
All Helena could think through that day was how could Kode know their leader, yeah she was strong but not that strong, what was their relationship and why didn't their leader seem fazed by her
Maze
Did you really have to do it like that?
Kode
(*Shrug*) It's just a door Maze.
Maze
I'm still the leader here you know? At least pretend to respect in front of the others.
Maze
Straight to the business I see?
Kode
I don't have all the time of the world Maze, why did you call me here?
Maze
I called you.. To collect my favor.
Kode
(*Frown*) What is it?
