As she struggled to drag her feet, which were heavy with fatigue, Railien hoped it would be over soon. Her eyes were heavier, and she was considering shutting them for a long while. She had been holding on for too long, hoping she could find something, anything to put in her mouth.
"Just a drop!"
She said as her legs and eyes finally succumbed to the pressure. As the world around her slowly grew smaller, she could vaguely make out a figure in white coming towards her. And as everything turned black in the blink of an eye, before her conscience became non-existent, she could feel an arm wrapped around her slender waist. Someone drew her close.
Railien opened her eyes and gasped out for air. Her whole body trembled before she realized she was safe and calmed down. When she became aware of the change in her surroundings, she wondered where she was. Looking around for a clue about where she could be.
"Am I perhaps in heaven?"
She thought out loud.
" Heaven! Well, that certainly is an overstatement! People have called my place all sorts of names, but you are the first to call it heaven. How interesting."
When she looked around, following the sound, Railien saw a man who looked to be in his early thirties standing at the door way. She was shocked and held on to the blanket on her body tightly, and moved back a little.
"Who... Who are you? What... What do you want with me?"
She asked, her body trembling a little. The man let out a scoff then moved closer to her.
"Your savior! I am your savior!"
The man said in a low and mysterious voice, making Railien grip even tighter on the blanket.
"Tell me young lady, why do you call my place heaven?"
He asked as he leaned back, away from Railien. She hesitated for a while.
"B... B.... Because.... I... It looks very peaceful and hopeful. "
She said as she lowered her head, her voice becoming softer and softer to the point that it sounded like a whisper. To Railien, this kind of place was only seen in her dreams, which she rarely had due to the countless nightmares that haunted her. The man suddenly let out a laugh.
"You must have been living in hell to think my place Is heaven! You seem to be the only person to think that my place could be heaven. Some of my own even call this place the devil's house! You must be quite special! "
The man said as he leaned closer and closer to Railien, making her more and more uncomfortable. There was really nothing she could do about it though. After all, in all senses, she was the one who had trespassed, unknowingly.
"You know, I was thinking of killing you, and collecting all I could from you to make a fortune for myself. "
The man said in a cold and hostile voice. She gasped.
"P... P... Plea... Please sir, I... I beg you, don't kill me! I'll do anything, yes! Anything, just please spare me! Spare my life!"
Railien said as she trembled, grabbing the man's hand for an instant before letting go on seeing the man's expression. Suddenly, the man laughed out loud.
"Good! Very good! I said you were interesting! Don't worry, I changed my mind. If you do something for me in return!"
The man said as she stood up and walked towards the window which was opposite to the bed Railien was on. In a calm and enchanting voice, he began.
"My name is Ron, Ron von Ton. I won't tell you much because you will soon know all you need to know. That is if you agree to my terms."
He said, then turned around and looked straight at Railien, then continued.
"From now on, you will be working for me, you will have to do some dirty job, or as some people like to call it, murder."
" This is no ordinary murder. After killing the target, that's where the real job starts. My assistant, Volt, will be with you shortly. He will explain everything to you, from what we need to get from the target to your payment, you will probably have to sign some papers and make some vows, and you'll be done. Make me proud miss... "
" Railien, my name is Railien. "
She said in a shocked but rather scared voice.
"I would have died anyway. But he saved me. This is the least I could do."
She thought to herself as she raised her head to look at Ron.
"Mr. Ron, sir, can I ask you something?"
She said as she gained a little bit of courage.
"You already planned to let me work for you from the start, right?"
" The less you know, the longer you live! "
He said as he turned and walked out, shutting the door. Railien was left there speechless, wondering why this Mr. Ron had given her such a task and why he had saved her life.
Thinking about it, Railien had never seen such a person...
"Wait!"
She remembered. As she was losing conscience the other day, she could vaguely make out a figure in white, and judging from Mr. Ron's appearance, it seemed to have been him. This was even more alarming to her.
Ever since her parents died in the war, ever since she became an orphan living in the streets, she had never seen a noble or any well-dressed man in the border town. That is when it finally dawned on her.
"Mr. Ron! He was there at the specific moment in my life when I was about to die. I have never seen anyone that well-dressed in those streets. Without reading too much into it, one might think he was there to find anyone he could kill, but he came there for me. He didn't even bother killing me. Instead, he took me home to work for him. There must be more to this. I must find out more. "
Railien thought to herself as she slowly stood up from the bed. Suddenly, the door to the room opened and a well-dressed man in blue walked in. He turned and looked straight at Railien.
"Hello, my name is Volt. I am Mr. Ron's personal assistant. Nice to meet you Railien. We are going to have so much fun together!"
Railien looked keenly at the man in front of him. He looked to be thirty or so. He had sharp eyes that seemed to stare at one's soul. His lips curled up into a smile, making Railien flush.
"Um... Hello, n... Nice... Nice to meet you too, my name is... Um... Ow... You already know my name! Um it's... It's nice to meet you!"
Railien said, turning her head away to hide her now extremely flushed face.
"I literally made a fool of myself just now! Oh my, this is so embarrassing!"
She said, making attempts to cover her face. Volt let out a chuckle and moved closer to her.
"How adorable! You are quite interesting. I see why the boss wants to keep you. As I said before, we are going to have much fun together. I hope you are as hard working as you look, Railien!"
The words from Volt's mouth made Railien turn around to sit on the bed. She lowered her head even more in attempts to cover her reddening face.
"He clearly wants me to feel even more embarrassed than I already am! Such a dangerous man! I should stay away from him in the future, for my own good!"
" You don't have to be afraid of me, I promise, I don't bite. At least not always! "
He said, letting out a loud laugh that sent shivers down Railien. She clenched on to her clothes.
"Now on serious matters, I will inform you about everything and anything you need to know about your job. I will also assign people to assist you while you are still adjusting. I hope in the future you can do a great job, Railien. "
As he spoke, his voice became more urgent and firm, causing the flush on Railien's face to disappear gradually until she regained her composure. He explained everything in detail, receiving nods and yeses from Railien, affirming her comprehension of the instructions.
"This is a watch from the organization. It will be your main communication tool. It will also measure your progress and inform you and the boss about your physical health and improvement. That means no slacking off on the job! "
He said as he handed Railien a black watch as thin as a strap.
"To use it, just tap on it so that it can recognize you as the owner. "
Railien extended her right hand to receive the watch. She then put it on and taped on it as instructed. Suddenly, a blue light emitted from the watch and sent a holo screen floating above the watch. The holo screen displayed a bunch of codes, then went blank. In the next moment, it displayed all of Railien's information.
"Now, follow me please. "
He said as he turned and walked towards the door. Railien stood up and followed him out the door. As soon as they walked out, Railien realized that they had mysteriously walked into another room. The room was equipped with computers and projectors. The computers were arranged in four rows and infront of each computer was a person. The people seemed to be immersed in their work, not turning their heads even for the slightest distraction.
"A while ago, this room was definitely not here,,but just now we..."
Railien said in a low voice as she tilted her head to look at Volt, expecting to get an answer of some sort. Volt didn't respond. Instead, he kept walking, heading towards a room in the corner of the room. Railien said nothing and followed behind. As they were entering the room, Volt paused on his steps.
"It is more convenient this way, rather than walk out and let everyone stare at you questionably, won't you pick this kind of rout too?"
He said, then continued moving forward. As far as he was concerned, the existence of such a mode of transportation was none of Railien's business, but he figured 'why not give her mysterious answers and see if she would get worked up or something '.
Contrary to Volt's thoughts, Railien followed behind him quietly, as if he hadn't said anything. Volt smiled.
"I guess she really is interesting. "
In the room they had walked in, about five people were gathered. As soon as they entered, the people who were initially sitting stood up and greeted Volt in a formal way.
Volt introduced Railien to the group and assigned her there. It turned out that they were the main team working for Mr. Ron. Railien was placed under the care of one of the members named Luit. He was the team's sniper. Apparently, Railien had to start from long range before she could come closer to the targets.
"Come on, a pretty girl like you shouldn't cry like this, you will ruin your eyes! "
Railien said as she walked into a half-lit room. In the room, a girl sat tied up on a chair in the center of the room. The girl was drenched in tears. She stopped crying and yelling as soon as Railien walked in.
From the girl's expression, one could tell how terrified she was. Her body was trembling all over, and she was gasping for air as if she was suffocating.
"P... Ple... Please, please big siz, don't kill me, please! I'll do anything! Anything at all, please!"
The girl said in a weak and trembling voice. She looked at Railien as she got closer and closer to her. She then squatted before the girl, looked her in the eyes and smiled. It was a heart-warming smile that made the girl calm down a bit.
"Hey, hey, it's alright. I am not gonna hurt you. I just need to borrow some things from you. Technically, my friend here will be the one borrowing. I promise you, you don't have to cry so much. It's going to be over soon! Before you know it, you'll be peacefully resting!"
She said as her lips curled to a grind.
"No! Please, I am begging you! Don't do this please..."
It had been three years now since Railien started working for Mr. Ron. Her sweet and pure nature had turned ruthless and cold. Her aura had a murderous intent and one could vaguely trace the smell of blood on her body.
"Three years is surprisingly a long time! "
She thought to herself as she wiped blood off herself with a piece of cloth.
"Chen, bring the goods to the headquarters, I've got something to do. Make sure they arrive safely, or I'll hold you accountable. "
She said as she threw the piece of cloth on the floor and walked away. As she walked away, Railien couldn't help but think of the past two years. After learning for six months, she was able to lie through her teeth like a professional.
She was considered a fast learner by her whole team. Even Mr. Ron had acknowledged her for being the first person in the history of this line of work to be able to achieve such results in a short period of time.
She still remembered the first time she actually murdered a person. It was in the seventh month of her training, she didn't scream, tremble or miss the shot. She didn't even bat an eyelid as she shot directly at the target's forehead. After that, she just asked for a drink of water and walked out majestically.
After that incident, she was immediately taken off the training board and became a permanent member of the team. When she started, all she wanted was to stay alive.
Her phone rang like a summon, bringing her back to the present.
"What's up!"
"Are you really coming? I've been waiting for a long time. I've got my own shit to deal with. Would you hurry up!"
"Am on my way for god's sake! Do you perhaps think I've got wings? Be patient, will you?"
"Fine! Hurry up!ugh!"
She hung up and got on her bike. This was an urgent assignment she had gotten earlier. One of the snipers had their eye on an important target. Not attempting to assassinate, but this was rather one of those special missions that happen rarely.
As important as it was, this assignment was given to Railien. No one was expecting this. Some even thought that Mr. Ron was making a mistake entrusting a newbie to their important missions, even though she was considered a genius.
Railien was aware of all this, and she promised herself that she would make them all believe in her capability, no matter the cost. She was somehow nervous, but she would never let anyone know. Even as she pulled up beside the hotel building and walked in, she still made sure she looked confident and unfazed.
Railien made her way to the top floor using the elevator. When the elevator door opened, she walked out and straight towards a tall and masculine man. The man was standing casually at the edge of the building. He turned to look at Railien.
"It took you long enough! Hurry up, will you? I don't have all day. "
"No greetings today?"
Railien said as a smirk formed at the corner of her mouth. She moved closer to the man and stood in front of him, her open hand stretched towards him.
"Cut the bullshit! You keep me here, then expect me to be excited about seeing you?"
He said as he slapped Railien's hand out of the way. Railien smiled and withdrew her hand. She then shrugged.
"If I knew you were gonna be like this, I wouldn't have come. "
"You!..."
"Enough,fine fine. What's the situation? "
The man looked very angry. He clenched his first before closing his eyes and gathering his composure. He then turned and looked at a building not far away from where they were.
"Gold pool hotel, sixth floor, room 308. Her name is Crystal Wind. Your room is opposite hers. Don't mess it up. "
The man said, then turned around, heading towards the elevator.
"Hey, are you serious? Is that all?"
"I don't feel like telling you everything now that I am pissed off. Find out on your own. "
"How about I tell the boss then? Will you feel like telling me everything?"
"You dare? Don't mess with me Ri! I am not in the mood at all! Besides, he never gave orders that I should gather info for you. He only wanted me to help you identify the target and the rest is up to you. You aren't getting paid for nothing you know!"
He said, then kept walking toward the elevator.
"I swear! You'll regret this, you piece of shit!"
She said angrily as the elevator door closed. Railien then quietly turned in the direction of the Gold pool hotel. She seemed to be deep in thoughts.
"Mess it up?hmm! You wish!"
She said as she too turned and walked to the elevator. The doors of the elevator closed as Railien's lips curled up into a smile.
As she walked out and got onto her bike, she thought to herself that it would probably not be easy a mission.
"Ha! I gotta get home and freshen up first. Those fools seem to really be praying a fail this mission. I guess I should be extra careful. "
"Why do I feel like this mission is gonna set a course for my life? Ha! Forget about it. We'll just see what happens. "
She thought to herself. She soon arrived at her house. Apparently, everyone on a mission had to stay on their own. This particular house was given to her not too long ago. It was when she was told about this mission that she actually set food in it though.
It wasn't a smile though, but it wasn't that luxurious either. It was the perfect house for someone on a mission. She went into the house to prepare herself. In a few hours, she came out with a bag, got on her bike, and drove off.
"I better start early if I want some helpful info. That bastard actually withheld info from me damn. Hmm, he better watch his back! "
