In the dungeon that contains treasure that can be sell at a guild hall or at an auction house
What is a dungeon? Dungeon is a place that is connected through a portal called "Space Cracks".
People who enter a space crack are called "hunters". What is a hunter's job?
A hunter's job is to clear a dungeon that was assigned by a guild.
The top three biggest guilds in Korea are the Azure Guild, Velvet Guild and Topaz Guild.
Not to mention, every hunter has a rank. Rank is determined by how much mana you possess.
There are 7 major ranks.
From S to F rank.
Here I am, a hunter of F-rank at the brink of death.
"I don't want to die! If I have one more chance! Just once…..!"
Suddenly, a strange thing happens….. A game system-like appears before me
"Player KANG HILJYUN has died. Regressing 7 years into the past"
Hiljyun thought he had died- No- He was sure that he died
"Where am I? This is… my room?! I was sure that I died on the battlefield! How can I be here if I already died?"
He felt confused to what's going on. The only thing he remembers is his death and the system saying he died.
"A system… What is that system?"
He wondered to himself.
"Maybe I should try saying "System" like how systems in RPG games work."
Hiljyun tried saying the word "System" and it worked. A system window appeared in front of him and it was showing every accessible command like storage, skill tree, stat points and other commands available.
"Hmm…Stat view"
Hiljyun tried the command Stat view to see his overall stats. His overall stats prove how weak he is.
"I should try this command… Quest"
A window appeared showing every available daily, weekly and monthly quests. Just like how it works in RPG games.
As Hiljyun is checking the quest window, a new quest arrives. The new quest is about killing 5 Goblins in a dungeon near the Gwanghwamun Station entrance.
"A new quest…. Kill 5 Goblins in a dungeon near Gwanghwamun Station? That is not far from here. I should head there right away."
Hiljyun left his house and headed to the Gwanghwamun Station to do the quest. As he arrives there, there are soldiers who are guarding the space crack. Hiljyun walks towards one of the guards and asks for permission to enter the dungeon.
"Show me your hunter ID if you want to enter." Says the guard.
Hiljyun reaches out into his pocket and takes his hunter ID and hands it to the guard.
"Here is my hunter ID. Can I enter now?" Ask Hiljyun.
The guard check his ID for confirmation and let him enter after he confirm that it was you
"You can enter now, Hunter Kang." Says the guard.
Hiljyun enters the dungeon and he finds some Goblins to kill to finish the quest. After some hours pass, Hiljyun finishes the quest and he also finishes the side quest of killing the boss of the dungeon, the D-rank Hobgoblin.
"I finished the quest. I should get out of this dungeon."
Hiljyun makes his way out of the dungeon after clearing his quest and getting some rewards. One of them is a dagger called 'Goblin Slayer'. The rest of the rewards are only stat points, gold and soul point. Hiljyun is confused about the 'soul point' because he never heard of it. Soul point is a system to count souls that you have absorbed by killing monsters or people. The more souls you have, the more you can spend on the soul exchange store in the System.
"Soul points? What is that? Soul exchange store?"
As Hiljyun are checking the Soul Exhange section to see what stuff he can exchange in the Soul Exchange section. Hiljyun only has five points only since he only killed five goblins.
"Only five soul points… What can i spend it on?"
As Hiljyun thinks, a mail from the system arrives. In the mail, there's a gift from the system for leveling up for the first time. The gifts are 30 soul points, 45 stat points and 300 golds.
"A gift from the system?! How generous."
Hiljyun sees this as an oppurtunity to use the stat points and the soul points.
"I should put some on damage, speed and defense."
Hiljyun uses some of the points on damage, speed and defence. He puts 25 damage points, 10 agility and 10 defence on his stats. He then proceeds to use some of the soul points he has.
"Let's see what I can buy with these soul points."
Hiljyun goes through the Soul Exchange section to see what he can buy with it. Shortly after, he found what he wanted. He found the book he wants which is the Magic Memoir to learn magics. He doesn't want the same ending before he regressed to occur again.
"Found it, I should learn magic so I can survive in the future. I don't want the same thing to occur again in the future. This time, I will survive!"
Hiljyun is eager to survive this timeline. He wants to be one of the strongest hunters in the world. If possible he wants to be the strongest out of all hunters in the world.
"This time, I will change my own future! To survive in this accursed world! To be the best of the best! I won't die this time! I'll survive!"
Hiljyun holds the memoir and goes back to the start of the dungeon to get out before the space crack closes and destroys the dungeon. Hiljyun arrives at the space crack and enters it to get out of this dungeon. Outside the dungeon, the same guard is still guarding the space crack.
"You made it out alive, I see. Congratulations and thank you for clearing the dungeon." Says the guard.
"Yeah. It was challenging at first but I'm able to clear it really quickly without expecting it." Says Hiljyun.
"That's great to hear. I'm glad you survived." Says the guard
Hiljyun walks away and heads for the nearest mountain to learn magics with the memoir he bought from the Soul Exchange store.
"I should try learning magic. I need to change the future." Hiljyun says.
As Hiljyun is holding the memoir, someone using the stealth skill stole it from his hand.
"Hey! Give that back!" Hiljyun shouts to the thief who stole the memoir.
"I can't see you but I can sense your mana flow! You better show yourself before something bad happens to you!" Hiljyun shouts
"Or what?" Says the thief as he's laughing at Hiljyun.
"You son of a-!" Hiljyun shouts.
Hiljyun follows the thief's mana flow to catch him. The thief tries to run away but Hiljyun quickly catches him and grabs the thief by the shirt.
"Got you!" Hiljyun says as he successfully catches the thief.
"Dang it!" The thief shouts.
"Why did you try to steal my item?" Ask Hiljyun.
"I steal important stuff for money obviously! What else do you think?" The thief answers Hiljyun's question violently.
"You know there's a better way to earn money, don't you?" Says Hiljyun to the thief.
"Let me guess. That doesn't matter to you?" Ask Hiljyun, frustrated.
"Well, yeah! Stealing other people's stuff is also fun!" Says the thief with a proud tone and he's smirking.
"That's weird. Forget that. What's your name?" Ask Hiljyun to him.
"It's Kurogawa Shirou." Kurogawa answers.
"What is a Japanese hunter doing here in Korea?" Hiljyun asks why a Japanese hunter is in Korea.
"I was trapped in a dungeon three years ago. When I woke up, I found myself in Seoul." Answers Kurogawa to Hiljyun.
"Not to mention, you're good at speaking Korean. Did you learn it three years ago?" Hiljyun asks.
"Yeah, I was pretty crappy at first. I can speak it well now. I learned Korean so I can speak with most of the people." Answers Kurogawa.
"That's great to hear. Still it doesn't change the facts that you're trying to steal my stuff." Says Hiljyun to Kurogawa.
"I'm sorry! I don't know you're that fast!" Says Kurogawa with a mad tone of talking.
"Wait. Am I that fast?" Hiljyun wonders in confusement.
"Yes, you are! Wait. So you don't know?" Kurogawa answers and asks Hiljyun.
"I wasn't expecting myself to be that fast…." Hiljyun says.
"So you're basically implying that you don't know you're this fast?" Kurogawa says, a little bit confused.
"Well yeah, I didn't know I was this fast already…"
Hiljyun implies in a confused tone. He doesn't know that he's already this fast since he didn't test it in the dungeon before. Under the confusement, Hiljyun is impressed by his own speed.
"Anyway, are you going to give back the memoir or not?" Ask Hiljyun to Kurogawa
"I will give it back under one condition." Kurogawa says.
"And what is that 'condition' you're talking about?" Hiljyun asked.
"The condition is you're going to make me your companion and we need to learn magic together. That's the condition." Kurogawa says.
"Alright. It's a deal then." Hiljyun says
Both of them accept the deal and Kurogawa gives back the memoir to Hiljyun. After that, they become friends and start to learn magic together. For Kurogawa, it's easy to learn magic but it's different for Hiljyun since he struggles a lot to learn even the basic spell like "Fireball". This everytime makes Kurogawa feel weird that someone as strong as Hiljyun couldn't even do basic spells.
"Ugh! Again! I couldn't even do the basic spells! Why can't I learn a single magic spell?!" Says Hiljyun in frustration.
"Just try to focus. You might get it next time." Kuroagawa says while watching, Hiljyun keeps trying but constantly fails every time.
"How can someone as strong as you can't even do basic spells? Isn't it weird?" He says once again.
"I don't even know! I've been trying hard but every time, it always fails! It's like, I was banned from using any magic!" Hiljyun says in frustration
As more days passed, Hiljyun still couldn't even cast a basic spell. It's now to the point that Hljyun is giving up. He was determined to survive but now it's all going to waste.
Two weeks later.
HIljyun is still trying to cast a basic spell but again it's all a failure.
"I still couldn't cast a single basic spell. What I don't have that Kurogawa has to learn magic? What more do I need to have to be able to learn magic?" Hiljyun says in frustration
Hiljyun couldn't take it anymore. He feels like he's just some useless person that can't even cast a basic spell. Everytime Kurogawa sees Hiljyun all aloof and depressed, he knows that Hiljyun fails to even cast a basic spell again.
"You should drop the depressed attitude, Hiljyun. It makes you look like a person that already gave up everything in life. It sometimes makes me sad seeing you like this." Kurogawa says to Hiljyun.
"How can I look more happy? I always fail when I try to cast a basic spell. It's really weird. How can someone who doesn't even know about magic before learn magics in less than a month?" Hiljyun says while looking at Kurogawa
"Everyone has their own talents. Maybe you're not talented in magics? Who knows?" Kurogawa says to Hiljyun.
"I wish! I followed every step in the memoir and I still can't even cast a basic spell!" Hiljyun says frustrated by the fact he still can't use magic.
A few days passed. Hiljyun and Kurogawa decide to take a break from magic training and choose to head for a dungeon instead. While they're preparing, Hiljyun is checking all the quests available in the system.
"Let's see… What quest should I take? This one sounds interesting… "Eliminate 10 Blood Wolves". This shouldn't be too hard considering my current strength. I definitely can finish this quest alone. Accept daily quest number 1."
Hiljyun accepts the quest and waits for Kurogawa to finish packing his stuff. After a short while, Kurogawa finishes packing his equipment and they're ready to head for the dungeon. They decided to go visit the Korean hunter association building first to register Kurogawa as a licensed Korean hunter since he only has his Japanese hunter ID. After some time of walking, they arrived at the Korean hunters association building and entered the building and headed to the registration counter to register Kurogawa as a licensed Korean hunter.
"Hey there! How can I assist you today, sir?" Says the receptionist behind the counter
"I'm here to register this boy as a hunter." Hiljyun says while pointing at Kurogawa.
"Oh, I see. Now, if you may. This way, please!" The receptionist understands and asks Kurogawa to follow her.
"Oh. Okay." Kurogawa says before following the receptionist to the measurements room.
Meanwhile, Hiljyun is just waiting in the lobby. While Hiljyun is minding his own business in the lobby, someone he knew back in high school arrives in the building and she spots Hiljyun sitting alone in the lobby.
"Oh~. If it wasn't the loser, Kang Hljyun~." Says the woman.
"What do you want from me, Dohwa?" Hiljyun asks.
"Nothing, just feeling bad for you. Being the same weakling since high school. How miserable." Says Dohwa to Hiljyun.
"I'm trying to forget that time. Why did you need to bring that up here?" Hiljyun asks with a slight angry tone.
Meanwhile, in the measurements room. Kurogawa is undergoing a test that is different from when he was in Japan.
"This test is different… They measure everything including my intelligence…. If this is Japan, I would only undergo a mana measurement to get a rank… I guess different countries has their own way of measuring people's power." Says Hiljyun after he finishes the test.
"So, Mr. Kurogawa. Your rank is C-rank. We're going to print your hunter information. You said you were a Japanese huner. Can I see your Japanese hunter ID?" The receptionist gives Kurogawa his rank and asks if Kurogawa can hand her the current hunter ID he has.
"Sure. Here is my current hunter ID." Kurogawa hands over the Japanese hunter ID he has.
"Thank you! We're going to update your information! If you will excuse me." The receptionist leaves.
After the receptionist left, Kurogawa left the measurements room and found Hiljyun talking to a woman he didn't know.
"He's a playboy, huh? I can guess it because he's strong. But why is his aura full of hatred? I can even sense the mana overflow. If he keeps acting like that he might die... Don't tell me….!" Kurogawa quickly runs to Hiljyun to stop Hiljyun's mana overflow.
"Hiljyun! Calm down! Your mana is overflowing! You might die at this rate!" Kurogawa shouts while running.
"Hoh~. It seems like you're not lonely after all~." Dohwa says while looking at Kurogawa running and turns to look back at Hiljyun.
"I have nothing more to do with you, Dohwa. Can you leave me alone?" The hatred is growing more and more in Hiljyun's heart.
At this point , if Hiljyun doesn't calm down, the whole building will be just left with nothing but dust.
Kurogawa shortly arrives. "What do you want from Hiljyun?! Don't you see his mana is overflowing?!" Kurogawa shouts at Dohwa angrily.
"It's just a little teasing~ It's not like he's going to die." Dohwa replies to Kurogawa.
"What did you just say, you b-!" Kurogawa is going to fight Dohwa but he's stopped by Hiljyun. Hiljyun grabs his arm to stop him from engaging in battle against Dohwa.
"You mustn't, Kurogawa. She's stronger than you. She's an A-rank." Hiljyun says.
"Oh. What a poor guy~." Dohwa says while laughing at both Hiljyun and Kurogawa.
"Tch!" Kurogawa frowns and turns to look at Hiljyun.
"Are you okay though, Hil...jyun…" This is the first time Kurogawa sees Hiljyun this angered. The atmosphere when he looks at Hiljyun is like facing an Omega rank monster. It's really heavy to even breathe for Kurogawa while feeling the angers in Hiljyun's soul.
"Kill kill kill kill kill…." Hiljyun mutters under his breaths.
Under all of these commissions, the system has been trying to keep Hiljyun alive by warning him if he goes more than this, he will definitely die and kill everything in the radius impact of mana burst.
The receptionist approaches Kurogawa to give back the updated hunter ID to Kurogawa.
"Here you go, Mr. Kurogawa! Your information has been updated!" The receptionist says. After that, the receptionist looks at Dohwa.
"Oh! You must be Seol Dohwa, the A-rank hunter who requested that new magic equipment! If you may, please follow me." The receptionist says and leaves.
"See you poor little insects later~. Bye-bye~." Dohwa says before she leaves and follows the receptionist.
"What a rude woman." Kurogawa says and looks at Hljyun to calm him down.
"Um…. Hiljyun can you calm down a little? Your mana is overflowing. At this rate if you keep it up like that, you might die from mana overflows." Kurogawa says once again. Trying to calm Hiljyun down.
Hiljyun calms down and takes a deep breath to calm himself down so he won't die from mana overflows.
"Let's just leave, Kurogawa. I don't want to stay here any longer." Hiljyun says with a frustrated tone.
"Alright if you say so. Let's just leave and hit the dungeon you're talking about earlier." Kurogawa says to Hijyun as they're leaving the building.
They left the building and headed to the dungeon Hiljyun is talking about before they left.
A long walk later, they arrive at the entrance of the dungeon. The space crack colour is blue which marks the dungeon as a low D-rank dungeon and shouldn't be that hard considering its rank. At least for Hiljyun… For Kurogawa it's a little bit different since he's only C-rank. He didn't expect Hiljyun to choose a D-rank dungeon.
"So you chose a D-rank dungeon out of all the easy ranks one? You know you're only an F-rank trying to enter a D-rank dungeon, right?" Kurogawa asks Hiljyun.
"I'm aware of that. Even though I'm an F-rank, I still want to clear this dungeon." Hiljyun answers.
"You know it's dangerous to enter a dungeon that was so out of your own rank! Why did you even choose this dungeon anyway?!" Kurogawa says with a furious tone.
"I chose this dungeon because there's something I need from this dungeon. Something important for my growth." Hiljyun answers but truth be told, he only wants to clear the daily quest and leave with the rewards.
While in the midst of everything, the system decided that this is a good time to give Hiljyun a special title.
"New title unlocked. Title "Lies Spreader" has been added as a new title. Do you wish to equip?" The system pops up and says.
"No! Absolutely not!" Hiljyun says and the system cancels.
Kurogawa is confused as to why Hiljyun is screaming out of nowhere.
"Dude, are you okay? Are you high or something? You suddenly burst out of nowhere…" Kurogawa asked Hiljyun.
"Yeah I'm fine. Sorry.." Hiljyun says. While in his head; "Did I scream too loud?! Ah! Why did I do that?!"
"Alright if you say so…. Are we going to head in or not?" Kurogawa asks.
"Yeah. Let's head into the dungeon." Hiljyun answers.
