Beneath the Gilded Cage
Shadows of disapproval
In the snow-enshrouded city of Seonwon, where winter's chill whispers secrets to the frozen streets, the noble House of Kim prepares for a union of contrasts. Within the grand estate's walls, a tapestry of tradition and innovation unfolds, as the eldest son, Kim Tae-hyung, stands poised to wed his unlikely bride, Jeongguk, an omega orphan man with a heart full of resilience. The venue, a majestic hanok-style mansion with tiled roofs and wooden pillars, shimmers like a frozen mirage. Snowflakes dance across the rooftops, weaving a delicate lace of white and grey, as if the heavens themselves are blessing the union.
The courtyard, a frozen fountain stands silent, its waters suspended in time, like the moments before a promise is made. The air is alive with the soft rustle of snow-covered pine trees, their branches etched against the sky like a delicate calligraphy of winter. The ceremony hall, adorned with intricate hanji lanterns and vibrant silk tapestries, glows with a soft, ethereal light, as if the very essence of the snow has been distilled within its walls. The floor, polished to a warm sheen, reflects the gentle glow, creating an illusion of walking on moonlight.
The estate's traditional architecture is a testament to the family's rich history, with its wooden beams, paper doors, and tiled roofs. The walls are adorned with ancient artifacts, and the air is thick with the scent of incense and old wood. In this winter wonderland, the noble and the humble entwine their destinies, as Kim Tae-hyung, with his chiseled features and eyes like dark, polished wood, awaits his bride. Jeongguk, with his gentle spirit and heart full of hope, steps into this frozen fairy tale, and forever alters the landscape of their lives.
Kim Tae-hyung stands tall, his majestic figure clad in a stunning blue jeogori, the traditional Korean male hanbok. The vibrant hue seems almost otherworldly against the snowy backdrop, as if he is a celestial being descended upon the mortal realm. His expression is inscrutable, a mask of serenity that betrays no hint of emotion.
His face is a canvas of perfection, with moles scattered across his skin like constellations in the night sky. His amber eyes shine like pools of warm fire, radiant with an inner light that seems almost divine. Long eyelashes dust the upper part of his cheekbones, adding to the ethereal quality of his features.
Soft brown hair dances in the mild, chilly breeze, framing his face with a subtle elegance. The jeogori's intricate embroidery seems to shimmer in the sunlight, as if the very fabric of his attire is infused with a subtle magic.
As he stands there, Tae-hyung exudes an aura of quiet confidence, a sense of inner strength that is both captivating and unnerving. His presence is like a gentle storm, soothing yet powerful, leaving all who behold him in awe of his celestial beauty.
As the doors to the Kim mansion's grand foyer slide open, a collective gasp fills the air. Jeongguk, the omega bride, steps into the room, his scarlet red hanbok a striking contrast to the snowy landscape outside. His skin is as pale as the moon, a luminous canvas that seems almost ethereal in the soft light.
His long black hair is pinned in a sleek bun, revealing the delicate curve of his neck. His lips are dipped in the softest pink, like rose petals gently kissed by the sun. A small mole beneath his lower lip, centered with precision, catches the eye like a subtle whisper.
But it is his eyes that truly mesmerize. Doe-like and gentle, they shimmer like the cosmic ocean, waves crashing and stars breaking or forming in their depths. The room seems to hold its breath as Jeongguk's gaze meets Taehyung's, the air thickening with an almost palpable sense of longing.
As he glides towards his groom, the scarlet fabric rustling softly around him, Jeongguk's beauty is like a slow-burning flame, igniting the hearts of all who behold him. Taehyung's eyes, warm and golden, drink in the sight of his bride, his face a mask of serene adoration. The contrast between them is striking – Taehyung's skin like melted gold, Jeongguk's like alabaster – yet they seem to fit together like two pieces of a celestial puzzle.
The grand foyer of the Kim mansion is abuzz with the soft murmur of esteemed guests, all influential figures in the kingdom of Gorae. As a constitutional monarchy, the royal family's events are typically formal and public, but today's ceremony is a rare exception. Only those closest to the family and most respected in society are invited to witness the union of Kim Taehyung, the King's nephew, and Jeongguk, his omega bride.
The air is thick with the scent of incense and the soft glow of candlelight, casting a warm ambiance over the proceedings. The traditional Korean ceremony begins with the pyebaek, the bowing ritual, as Taehyung and Jeongguk pay respects to each other and their elders.
As they exchange vows, their voices are barely above a whisper, yet filled with conviction. The guests watch in rapt attention, their faces filled with joy and admiration for the young couple.
The highlight of the ceremony is the sharing of the nuptial cup, a delicate gourd split into two halves, symbolizing the union of the two individuals. Taehyung and Jeongguk sip from each half, their eyes locked in a tender gaze.
The room erupts into soft applause as the newlyweds are pronounced husband and husband. The King's brother-in-law Taehyung's alpha father, beams with pride, his eyes shining with happy tears.
As the guests begin to mingle and offer congratulations, the atmosphere remains dignified and refined, fitting for a royal family's private celebration. The absence of media only adds to the sense of intimacy and exclusivity, making the occasion all the more special for those in attendance.
Kim Taehyung, 38, stands tall, his eyes fixed on his young bride, Jeongguk, 21. The 17-year age gap between them is a tradition in the Kim household, even in the royal household. It is believed that an alpha's life experience and wisdom are necessary to protect and care for their omega.
The guests watch the ceremony with a sense of reverence, knowing that this union is not only a love match but also a sacred bond between two individuals, destined to be together. The tradition of the Kim household is alive and well, and Taehyung and Jeongguk's union is a testament to its enduring power.
Jeongguk's eyes flutter towards Taehyung, his groom, as they stand together, receiving congratulations from their guests. He can't help but steal glances at the man beside him, his heart racing with a mix of emotions. Taehyung's reserved demeanor intimidates Jeongguk, making him feel uncertain and a little afraid.
Whenever someone congratulates them, Taehyung smiles gently, his lips curving upwards, but the smile fails to reach his eyes. They remain distant, unreadable, and Jeongguk can't help but wonder what lies beneath.
Jeongguk's gaze drifts to Taehyung's father, Kim Duho, who stands nearby, beaming with pride. His smile is warm, genuine, and Jeongguk has seen it many times before. As the owner of the orphanage where Jeongguk grew up, Duho has always been kind and supportive. Jeongguk can tell that his smile is real, unlike his son's, which seems to hide secrets.
As Jeongguk looks back at Taehyung, he feels a pang of uncertainty. What lies behind those distant eyes? Will he ever be able to reach the man beneath the reserved exterior? The thought sends a shiver down his spine, and he quickly looks away, focusing on the well-wishers surrounding them.
Jeongguk's gaze wanders to Taehyung's omega father, and he can't help but be struck by the man's extraordinary beauty. It's no wonder that both of his sons, Taehyung and Taekyu, inherited such stunning features. The elder Kim's ethereal quality is captivating, and Jeongguk finds himself mesmerized.
As he looks at Taehyung, he can't help but think that his alpha is too beautiful to be true. The scent blocker Taehyung wears can't fully suppress the intoxicating musk scent that emanates from him, a potent mix of masculinity and allure. Jeongguk's heart races as he takes in the astonishing combination of beauty and power that stands beside him.
Taehyung's reserved demeanor only adds to his enigmatic charm, making Jeongguk's heart flutter with excitement and a hint of fear. He feels like he's drowning in the depths of Taehyung's eyes, unsure of how to navigate the treacherous waters of his alpha's emotions.
The air is thick with tension as Jeongguk struggles to reconcile the contrast between Taehyung's captivating beauty and his intimidating presence.
Jeongguk observes Taehyung's omega father, greeting guests with a warm smile, identical to Taehyung's. But, just like his son, the smile doesn't quite reach his eyes. Jeongguk notices the same phenomenon with Taekyu, Taehyung's omega brother. It's as if they're all wearing a mask, hiding their true emotions.
When Taehyung's omega father's gaze meets Jeongguk's, he feels a shiver run down his spine. He quickly looks down at the ground, his heart racing.
Jeongguk
He doesn't like me
Jeongguk thinks to himself, his mind racing with doubts
Jeongguk can't help but wonder why Taehyung's family seems so... reserved around him. Is it because he's an orphan? Or is there something more? The uncertainty gnaws at his confidence, making him feel like an outsider in this grand, opulent setting.
As he stands there, trying to make sense of it all, Jeongguk can't help but feel like he's walking on eggshells, unsure of how to navigate this complex web of relationships and emotions.
Jeongguk's hands grow sweaty and cold as his mind wanders back to his own secret. The weight of it threatens to crush him, and he can't shake the feeling of impending doom. What if Taehyung discovers the truth tonight? Should Jeongguk confess himself, or hope that it remains hidden?
The thought of Taehyung's potential reaction sends a chill down Jeongguk's spine. What if he's thrown out of the Kim mansion tomorrow, divorced and discarded like a used item? Jeongguk's heart races as he considers the consequences. He's an orphan, with no job, no home, and no safety net. Where would he go? How would he survive?
Panic sets in, making his breath come in short gasps. Jeongguk feels like he's standing on the edge of a cliff, staring into an abyss of uncertainty. He tries to push the thoughts away, but they linger, haunting him like a ghost.
As he stands there, frozen in fear, Jeongguk can't help but wonder if he's made a terrible mistake by marrying Taehyung. Has he traded one uncertain future for another, even more precarious one? The questions swirl in his mind, refusing to let him go.
Jeongguk's eyes widen as he takes in the sight of the king, Taehyung's maternal uncle, conversing with influential figures from their country. The crown prince is also present, and Jeongguk can't believe he's seeing royal family members up close, not just on TV. The reality of his situation hits him like a ton of bricks - he's married to the king's nephew.
Jeongguk's hands grow even sweatier as his mind reels from the sheer magnitude of his new life. He never thought he'd be part of this world, and the sudden shift is making his head spin. He feels like he's losing balance, and his vision starts to blur.
In a desperate attempt to anchor himself, Jeongguk grabs Taehyung's sleeve, his fingers clutching the fabric tightly. The action earns a glance from Taehyung, whose expression softens slightly.
Some of the guests notice Jeongguk's distress and murmur sympathetically.
" The bride is tired and hungry "
"Why not let the newlywed couple have their lunch?"
The room erupts in a chorus of agreement, and Jeongguk feels a wave of relief wash over him. Maybe, just maybe, he can get through this after all. Taehyung's hand covers his, giving it a gentle squeeze, and Jeongguk's heart skips a beat.
Jeongguk follows Taehyung into the dining room, his eyes widening in awe as he takes in the spread before him. Maids have carefully arranged a vast array of traditional Korean dishes, each one more intricate and colorful than the last. Jeongguk's gaze darts from one dish to another, his mind struggling to comprehend the sheer abundance of food.
In his 21 years, Jeongguk has never seen such a lavish display. Growing up in the orphanage, meals were simple and sparse, with never enough to go around. Even on special occasions, the food was humble and plain. But this... this was a feast fit for royalty.
Taehyung takes his seat, his movements fluid and confident. Jeongguk hesitates, unsure of where to sit or what to do. Taehyung's gentle nod directs him to the seat opposite, and Jeongguk sits down, trying to hide his trembling hands.
The array of dishes seems to stretch on forever, each one emitting enticing aromas that tease Jeongguk's senses. He feels like a child in a candy store, unsure of where to start or what to try first. Taehyung's soft voice guides him, explaining the different dishes and offering him portions. Jeongguk eats, his taste buds exploding with the complex flavors and textures. It's a culinary revelation, one that leaves him breathless and wanting more.
Jeongguk's eyes widen as a wave of nausea crashes over him, his mind racing back to the secret he's desperate to keep hidden. The flavors that moments ago danced on his tongue now turn bitter, and his stomach churns with a ferocity that leaves him breathless.
He stops eating abruptly, his hands trembling as he pushes the plate away. The room begins to spin, and Jeongguk's vision blurs. He needs to throw up, but he can't - not here, not now, not in front of Taehyung and the others.
Cold sweat drips down his face, and Jeongguk's skin grows clammy. He feels like he's going to pass out. Taehyung's frown deepens, his eyes narrowing, but he says nothing. Instead, he continues eating, his movements silent and deliberate.
The contrast between Taehyung's calm demeanor and Jeongguk's inner turmoil is stark. Jeongguk feels like he's drowning in his own fear, unable to escape the secrets that threaten to consume him. He forces himself to take slow, deep breaths, desperate to regain control and push the nausea back down. But the damage is done - the moment of peace has shattered, leaving only tension and unease in its wake.
Jeongguk follows the maids, his feet heavy with exhaustion, as they lead him to a serene room filled with soft, golden light. The plush bed beckons, and he collapses onto it, feeling like he's been swept away by a storm.
One of the maids gently removes his shoes and helps him onto the bed, tucking a soft blanket around him.
" Rest now, young master Jeongguk "
" This evening, we'll bring you snacks and dinner. Later, we'll prepare you for your wedding night."
Jeongguk's heart skips a beat at the mention of the wedding night. He feels a mix of emotions: fear and uncertainty.
As the maids leave, Jeongguk closes his eyes, trying to calm his racing thoughts. He knows he can't avoid the wedding night forever, but for now, he just wants to rest and forget about the secrets that haunt him.
The softness of the bed and the silence of the room eventually lull him into a fitful sleep, his dreams filled with fragments of his past and the uncertainty of his future.
As the evening light filters into the room, maids arrive with a delightful spread of snacks and tea. Jeongguk's eyes widen as he takes in the array of treats: delicate cookies, sweet pastries, and an assortment of teas that fill the air with their enticing aromas.
One servant, with a warm smile, approaches him.
Yoon Min Soo
Good evening, young master Jeongguk
He says, his voice gentle.
Yoon Min Soo
My name is Min-soo, and I'm the head maid and butler's son. I'll be your personal servant from now on.
Jeongguk's curiosity is piqued.
He asks, his voice barely above a whisper.
Min-soo's smile softens further.
Yoon Min Soo
Because you are young master Taehyung's husband and, like you, I'm a male omega. I understand your needs, and I'm here to make your life easier.
Jeongguk feels a sense of relief wash over him. Having someone who understands his struggles as an omega, is a comfort he never thought he'd find in this grand, intimidating household.
As Min-soo serves him tea and snacks, Jeongguk can't help but notice the kindness in his eyes. Maybe, just maybe, he's found a friend in this vast, unfamiliar world.
Jeongguk stands at the window, watching as Taehyung disappears into the evening shadows. His heart races as he notices the rigid set of Taehyung's shoulders, the tightness in his jaw. It's as if he's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Jeongguk's mind whirls with thoughts of their upcoming wedding night. How will he reveal his secret? Shall he keep it a secret?
As he turns away from the window, Jeongguk can't shake off the feeling of unease. He feels like he's walking on thin ice, unsure of what lies beneath the surface. Taehyung's demeanor has always been enigmatic, but now it seems even more impenetrable.
Jeongguk's thoughts are interrupted by the sound of his own heartbeat, pounding in his ears like a drum. He tries to calm himself down, but his nerves are on edge.
Taehyung's thoughts are consumed by his omega father, Hyeon Woo, as he walks away from the mansion. He loves him more than his own life, and the weight of his father's disapproval settles heavy on his shoulders.
From the beginning, Hyeon Woo had opposed this marriage, sensing that Jeongguk was not the right match for him. But Taehyung's alpha father, Kim Duho, had already promised the head of Jeongguk's orphanage, and rejecting the wedding would harm his family's reputation.
As the brother-in-law of the king, Kim Duho's influence and power are significant, and Taehyung knows that defying him would have consequences. Taehyung feels trapped, caught between his loyalty to his family and his own desires.
Hyeon Woo's words echo in his mind
Hyeon Woo
Taehyungie, my baby~ you deserve someone who loves and accepts you for who you are, not someone who is only interested in our family's status. I am sure an orphan will always be interested in our wealth, status, power and influence
Taehyung longs for freedom, for the ability to make his own choices, but for now, he's bound by the chains of duty and expectation.
As night falls, Jeongguk is treated to a lavish dinner, his senses delighted by the flavors and aromas. Afterwards, he is led to the bath, where gentle hands guide him through a relaxing ritual. Essential oils dance in the water, mingling with the sweet scent of traditional Korean soap and shampoo.
As he emerges, his long hair is dried with scented smoke, the fragrance wafting up to tease his senses. Light makeup is applied, enhancing his features without overpowering them. A sheer robe is draped over his pale skin, the fabric whispering against him like a lover's caress.
Finally, a thick outer robe is wrapped around him, the weight of it a reminder of his new role. He is led to Taehyung's bedroom, the door sliding open to reveal a space that will now be theirs. Jeongguk's heart races as he steps inside, the soft glow of candles illuminating the path ahead.
The room is a sanctuary, filled with the scent of incense and the soft rustle of silk. Jeongguk's eyes adjust slowly, taking in the opulent decorations and the majestic bed at the room's center.
Taehyung returns to the bedroom, his eyes weary from a long day of work in his home office. He had eaten his dinner there, a simple but satisfying meal of rice, soup, and vegetables, barely noticing the taste as he pored over his papers and documents. As a renowned lawyer, he is no stranger to the demands of his profession. His family's legacy weighs heavily on his shoulders - his ancestors were scholars and generals during the illustrious Baekje Dynasty, and his maternal side boasts royal blood.
The tradition of excellence in law started with his great-grandfather, who was a respected jurist in his time. His grandfather and father followed in his footsteps, and now Taehyung carries the torch, upholding the family's honor with his own accomplishments.
As he enters the bedroom, his gaze falls upon Jeongguk, who sits quietly on the bed, his eyes cast downward. Taehyung's expression softens, and for a moment, he forgets about the weight of his responsibilities. He approaches Jeongguk, his movements fluid and deliberate, and sits beside him on the bed.
The silence between them is palpable, but Taehyung doesn't try to break it. Instead, he simply sits there, his presence a reminder that they are now bound together, for better or for worse.
Taehyung's gaze lingers on Jeongguk's fidgeting fingers before he speaks, his voice firm but measured.
Kim Taehyung
You just graduated from high school, right?
Jeongguk nods, his eyes cast downward.
Jeongguk
I graduated this year and became an adult last September.
Taehyung's expression remains neutral.
Kim Taehyung
So, what do you want to study?
Jeongguk's lips part, and he bites his lower lip before answering.
Jeongguk
I'm not good at studying, but I want to have a graduation degree in music.
Taehyung's eyebrow shoots up, his voice firm and commanding.
Jeongguk's head shakes vigorously, his eyes wide with protest.
Taehyung cuts him off, his tone strict.
Kim Taehyung
You can't be an idol with your marital status. Didn't you have a science background?
Jeongguk's voice trembles slightly.
Jeongguk
Y-yes, chemistry, nutrition, biology...
Taehyung's words interrupt him, his tone disapproving.
Kim Taehyung
Then study nutrition. It's not considered prestigious, but at least it's better than being an idol who whitewashes their face and entertains sèx-deprived foreign older ladies and omegas.
The air seems to vibrate with Taehyung's disapproval, leaving Jeongguk's heart racing and his thoughts reeling.
Jeongguk's fingers dance restlessly, his mind racing with the secret he keeps hidden. What if Taehyung discovers the truth? It will ruin him forever. He forces a calm tone
Jeongguk
Shall I pour you tea?
Taehyung waves his hand dismissively
Kim Taehyung
No, I have work left. Sleep. I won't consummàte this wedding until I feel like it.
Jeongguk's heart skips a beat. If that happens, his secret will be exposed. He has to act. With a surge of desperation, he grasps Taehyung's hand, meeting his questioning gaze.
Jeongguk
Mother might ask tomorrow
Jeongguk says, his voice barely above a whisper.
Kim Taehyung
My mother is not interested in what his son does with his wife.
Jeongguk's grip on Taehyung's hand tightens, his eyes pleading silently. Taehyung's expression remains unreadable, but Jeongguk knows he has to keep trying. His secret depends on it.
Jeongguk's hands tremble as he removes his outer robe, revealing his naked body beneath a sheer white robe. Taehyung's gaze falls upon him, his jaw tightening in response.
With a swift motion, Taehyung's index finger lifts Jeongguk's chin, his left hand simultaneously removing Jeongguk's robe until it reaches his thigh. Jeongguk shivers, his eyes welling up with tears.
Taehyung's smirk twists his face, his dark expression menacing.
Kim Taehyung
Don't act like a cheap, desperate whòre. You're a noble's wife now. Act like one, or learn how we lead our lives. Does your orphanage teach omegas these cheap tricks?
Jeongguk's tears slide down his face uncontrollably, but Taehyung remains nonchalant, his voice devoid of emotion.
Kim Taehyung
I will consummate this loveless marriage when I feel like it.
Jeongguk's body trembles, his heart heavy with shame and fear. Taehyung's words cut deep, and he feels like he's drowning in despair.
Jeongguk's tears continue to fall as he watches Taehyung return to the corner of the room, where a table is placed. Taehyung sits down, his focus shifting to the papers and documents in front of him. He begins to work, his expression stern and concentrated.
Jeongguk's sobs slowly subside, replaced by a sense of desperation. He knows he has to act, to make Taehyung consummate their marriage. If he doesn't, his secret will be revealed, and he can't let that happen. His orphanage instructors had been clear: keep his secret sealed, and make Taehyung consummate the wedding as soon as possible.
With a newfound determination, Jeongguk wipes away his tears and approaches Taehyung. He stands beside him, his heart racing with anxiety.
He says, his voice trembling.
Taehyung doesn't look up, his pen scratching across the paper.
Kim Taehyung
What is it, Jeongguk?
Jeongguk takes a deep breath, his mind racing. He needs to convince Taehyung to consummate their marriage, but how?
Jeongguk's voice trembles as he speaks
Jeongguk
Please, Taehyungssi, consummate this marriage.
Taehyung's frown deepens as he looks at Jeongguk, his eyes narrowing.
Kim Taehyung
Why are you so eager for it?
He asks, his tone laced with skepticism.
Taehyung stands, his movements fluid and deliberate. He reaches out, his thumb caressing Jeongguk's lower lip. Jeongguk's eyes flutter closed, his heart racing with anticipation.
Taehyung's face inches closer, his breath brushing against Jeongguk's skin.
Kim Taehyung
Are you hiding something from me?
He whispers, his voice low and husky.
Kim Taehyung
Or will this consummation conceal something?
Jeongguk's eyes snap open, his gaze meeting Taehyung's intense stare. He feels like he's drowning in the depths of Taehyung's eyes, his secrets threatening to spill out. He swallows hard, trying to maintain his composure.
Jeongguk
I... I just want to fulfill my duties as your wife
Taehyung's gaze lingers, his expression unreadable. Jeongguk's heart pounds in his chest, unsure if his words have convinced Taehyung or raised more suspicions.
Taehyung turns his back on Jeongguk, walking away to sit in his chair.
Kim Taehyung
Go to bed and sleep
He commands, his voice firm and authoritative.
Jeongguk tries to protest
But Taehyung cuts him off.
Kim Taehyung
I will decide what should be done
Taehyung says, his tone brooking no argument.
Kim Taehyung
I am your alpha, and you are bound to obey me, Jeongguk! Go to bed now!
Jeongguk's fear spikes at Taehyung's stern words. He feels a shiver run down his spine as he realizes he's pushed Taehyung too far. He quickly retreats to their bed, his heart racing with anxiety.
As he lies down, Jeongguk can't shake off the feeling of being trapped and helpless. Taehyung's words echo in his mind, a harsh reminder of his subservient position. He feels tears prick at the corners of his eyes, but he forces himself to hold them back.
Jeongguk's eyelids finally succumb to exhaustion, and he falls into a dreamless sleep, a rare occurrence in his 21 years of life. For the first time, his mind remains quiet, untouched by the vivid dreams that usually plague him.
Morning arrives, bringing with it a warm, golden light that seeps through the windows, illuminating the room. The rays dance across Jeongguk's face, gently coaxing him awake. He blinks, his eyes adjusting to the brightness, and finds himself lying next to Taehyung, who is sleeping with his back turned towards him.
Jeongguk takes a deep sigh, feeling a mix of emotions: relief, anxiety, and uncertainty. He carefully gets out of bed, trying not to disturb Taehyung, and makes his way to the bathroom. The warm glow of the morning light follows him, casting a comforting ambiance over the space.
As he steps into the shower, the water's gentle touch washes away the remnants of sleep, leaving him feeling refreshed and alert. Jeongguk's thoughts begin to wander, his mind replaying the events of the previous night.
Jeongguk's eyes widen as he gazes upon the array of luxurious clothes laid out before him. Yesterday they arrived at Taehyung's room, which has suddenly become their shared space. Jeongguk's heart sinks, realizing he can no longer dress as he pleases. As the wife of a respected man and an alpha from the royal family at that, his attire has to reflect their status.
The brands are unfamiliar to him, and he can't even begin to guess their prices. But as he picks up a shirt, his eyes scan the tag, and his heart nearly stops. 7,200,000 won.
And then, he sees the pants. 14,400,000 won. Jeongguk's breath catches in his throat. He has never seen such expensive clothing in his life. The orphanage provided him with simple, practical attire, never anything like this.
Jeongguk's hands tremble as he carefully places the garments back on the rack. He feels like an imposter, unworthy of such luxury. How can he, a humble orphan, be expected to wear such extravagant clothing? The weight of his new role crushes him, and for a moment, he longs for the simplicity of his old life.
Jeongguk searches for something, anything, cheaper, but his eyes scan the racks in vain. Those extravagant clothes are the most affordable options available. He has no choice but to wear the 7,200,000 won shirt and 14,400,000 won pants. His heart aches at the thought of donning such opulence.
He moves to the dresser, applying a simple moisturizer to his skin, and a light lip balm to his dry lips. He doesn't know how to put on makeup, nor does he want to. Those products are costlier than one of his kidneys, and he can't fathom spending such amounts on mere cosmetics.
Jeongguk's hands tremble as he buttons up the shirt, the fabric feeling like silk against his skin. He steps into the pants, the weight of the price tag settling heavy on his shoulders. He looks in the mirror, a stranger staring back at him. The luxurious clothes transform him into someone he doesn't recognize, someone he's not sure he wants to be.
Taehyung slowly opens his eyes, groggily taking in his surroundings. He notices that Jeongguk has already taken a shower.
Taehyung gets out of bed, his sleepy eyes half-closed as he makes his way to the bathroom. He returns half an hour later, wearing a plush bathrobe, and finds Jeongguk sitting on the sofa, looking lost.
Jeongguk's eyes dart up to meet Taehyung's, and he quickly bows his head.
Jeongguk
Good morning, Taehyungssi.
Taehyung's frown deepens, his voice firm and commanding.
Kim Taehyung
Go to the dining room. I will be joining you soon.
Jeongguk bows again, hastily retreating from the room. Taehyung's voice always seems to be laced with anger, making Jeongguk's heart race with anxiety.
As Jeongguk hurries out, Taehyung's gaze lingers on the empty space, his expression unreadable. He takes a deep breath, his eyes narrowing slightly before he turns to head to the changing room
Taehyung strides towards the closet, his bathrobe fluttering behind him. He slides open the door, revealing a vast array of luxurious clothes, each one more opulent than the last. His eyes scan the rack, his fingers trailing over the fabrics as he searches for the perfect attire.
He selects a crisp, white shirt and a pair of tailored black pants, his movements economical and precise. Taehyung's gaze never wavers, his focus solely on the task at hand. He dresses in the ease of someone accustomed to fine clothes, his movements fluid and confident.
As he buttons up his shirt, his eyes catch a glimpse of himself in the mirror. For a fleeting moment, his expression softens, and a hint of vulnerability flashes across his face. But it's quickly replaced by his usual stoic mask, his eyes narrowing into slits.
Taehyung takes a deep breath, his shoulders squaring as he prepares to face the day – and Jeongguk.
Jeongguk's heart plunges to his stomach as he enters the dining room, his eyes locking onto his omega father-in-law. The older man is elegantly sipping tea, his spoon swirling in the cup with precision. He looks up, his gaze meeting Jeongguk's, and then proceeds to scan him from head to toe.
Jeongguk's face heats up under the scrutiny, his eyes darting away to take in the rest of the room. That's when he sees his omega brother-in-law, and his jaw drops in awe. The younger man is breathtakingly beautiful, his long hair framing his delicate features. He is two years younger than Jeongguk and 19 years younger than Taehyung. He is still in his final year of high school.
Taehyung's younger brother looks up, his eyes meeting Jeongguk's, and his expression twists in disgust. He tears his gaze away, leaving Jeongguk feeling like he's been punched in the gut. Jeongguk's eyes sting, and he feels a lump form in his throat as he struggles to hold back tears.
The room falls silent, the only sound the gentle clinking of tea cups and the soft hum of conversation from the omega father-in-law, who seems oblivious to the tension. Jeongguk's heart races, his mind reeling with the realization that he's not just fighting for Taehyung's acceptance, but also for the approval of his entire family.
Jeongguk feels a gentle tap on his shoulder, and he gazes in that direction his eyes widen as he gazes at Duho, his alpha father-in-law, who's smiling warmly at him.
Kim Duho
Why are you standing there, come have a seat
Duho says, his voice gentle.
Jeongguk nods, intending to sit somewhere distant from his omega father-in-law and brother-in-law, but Duho's next words stop him.
Kim Duho
Taehyung sits on my left side, seat beside this chair.
Jeongguk's heart skips a beat as he gulps and nods, forcing himself to sit beside Taehyung's chair.
Within a minute, Taehyung arrives, kissing his omega father's cheek.
Kim Taehyung
Good morning, Eomeoni. Good morning, Abeoji. Good morning, kid.
The room fills with warm greetings from Taehyung's family, but Jeongguk remains silent, his mind blanking under the intimidating gaze of his omega father-in-law and brother-in-law.
Hyeon woo's voice cuts through the warmth, his tone disapproving.
Hyeon Woo
Your omega doesn't even know minimal etiquette, he didn't even bother to greet his in-laws.
Jeongguk's face burns as he realizes his mistake. He starts sweating, his hands trembling as he tries to find his voice
Jeongguk
G-good morning...
He stammers, but it's too late, the damage is done.
Taehyung's expression turns cold, his eyes narrowing at Jeongguk's belated greeting. The room falls silent once more, the tension palpable. Jeongguk's heart sinks, feeling like he's failed already.
Beyond the Facade
Taehyung clears his throat, his cold gaze fixed on Jeongguk. Jeongguk's voice trembles as he says
Jeongguk
Good morning, eomeonim, abeonim, doreyonnim
Doreyonnim~ brother-in-law ( husband's younger brother if he is unmarried)
Taehyung's mother sneers, his voice dripping with disgust.
Hyeon Woo
Your orphanage didn't even teach you basic manners, I assume.
Taehyung's brother, Taekyu, chimes in, his words venomous.
Kim Taekyu
Eomeoni, nobody from an orphanage gets married to a noble family. They're destined to become cheap prostitutès or get married to old rich alphas who have had several marriages before.
Taehyung's father objects, his face stern.
Kim Duho
Taekyu, you're forgetting Jeongguk is your brother's omega. And what's with this vulgar choice of words?
He turns to Taehyung, his eyes expectant.
Kim Duho
Can't you say anything to your brother? He's insulting your omega.
Jeongguk's eyes well up with tears, feeling utterly helpless and alone. He has nowhere to go, and on top of that, he has a secret to hide. Taehyung and his family hate him; God surely hates Jeongguk.
Taehyung's voice cuts through the tension, his words devoid of emotion.
Kim Taehyung
If my omega hasn't learned basic manners, then it's necessary he learns to adjust in this household. He is a part of this family now. He didn't even have a surname; now he bears our surname and maintaining the reputation of our family, and mine is his sole duty.
Taehyung's father frowns, his expression disapproving.
Kim Duho
I can't believe you've become an exact copy of your mother.
Taehyung ignores his father's comment and focuses on his food, his expression unreadable.
Jeongguk, on the other hand, stares at his breakfast plate in awe. Baked beans, grilled tomatoes, accompanied by toast and butter, sausages, sunny-side-up eggs, avocado, and a selection of fruits are arranged before him. He's never had such a lavish breakfast in his 21 years of life.
But as he gazes at the array of utensils beside his plate, his confusion grows. So many spoons, forks, and knives lie before him, and he has no idea which one to use for each dish. His heart races, and he feels palpitations as he tries to make sense of the unfamiliar table setting.
Jeongguk's eyes dart around the table, hoping to find a cue from the others, but Taehyung and his family seem engrossed in their own meals, oblivious to his distress.
Min-soo, Jeongguk's personal servant, stands silently behind him, his eyes filled with understanding. He recognizes Jeongguk's struggle, but he can't interfere in the family meal. His hands are clasped behind his back, his expression neutral, but his eyes betray his concern.
Jeongguk, feeling Min-soo's gaze, almost cries out in frustration. He tries to mimic Taehyung's elegant movements, but his own hands tremble as he attempts to hold the fork. He's never used formal utensils before, and the feeling of the cool metal between his fingers is foreign.
Taehyung seems to glide through the meal with ease, his movements fluid and practiced. Jeongguk, on the other hand, feels like a clumsy outsider, his awkwardness on full display. He spears a sausage with his fork, but it slips off, landing on the edge of his plate with a soft plop.
Min-soo's eyes dart to the floor, his lips pressed together to suppress a sympathetic smile. He knows Jeongguk's struggles all too well, but he's powerless to help in this moment.
Taehyung's gaze pierces through Jeongguk, his eyes narrowing in disgust. The white marble table now bears an unsightly stain, a reminder of Jeongguk's clumsiness. The sausage lies on the edge of the plate, a victim of Jeongguk's ineptitude.
Taehyung's frown deepens, his teeth gritted in annoyance.
Kim Taehyung
You don't even know how to hold a fork. What are you, a handicap?
He spits out, his voice venomous.
Jeongguk feels the sting of Taehyung's words, his eyes welling up with tears. He tries to hold them back, but they betray him, streaming down his face like a river. His vision blurs, and he looks away, humiliated.
Taekyu and Taehyung's omega father frown, their expressions mirroring Taehyung's disgust. The elder omega's eyes land on Jeongguk's thighs, noticing the missing napkin that should have protected his clothes. Instead, Jeongguk's white shirt now bears a visible stain, a testament to his carelessness.
The room falls silent, the only sound Jeongguk's quiet sobs. Min-soo's eyes dart to Jeongguk, his face a mask of concern, but he remains frozen in place, unable to intervene.
Taehyung's father, exasperated, intervenes
Kim Duho
Taehyung, stop scolding him, for God's sake!
He turns to the butler, Sung Bin, Min-soo's father, and instructs
Kim Duho
Give Jeongguk chopsticks.
But Taehyung immediately counters, his voice firm but calm
His father frowns, surprised by Taehyung's defiance. Taehyung continues, his tone unwavering
Kim Taehyung
If he continues with chopsticks, he will never learn table etiquette. He needs to adapt to our customs.
Taehyung's father sighs, rubbing his temples, while Sung Bin hesitates, unsure of what to do. Jeongguk, still sniffling, looks up at Taehyung with a mix of fear and resentment, his eyes red from crying. Min-soo's eyes dart between Taehyung and Jeongguk, his expression a mask of concern.
Taekyu, Taehyung's brother, sneers at Jeongguk
Kim Taekyu
Stop crying, will ya! You're so annoying!
Jeongguk's tears only flow harder, his body shaking with sobs, Jeongguk's omega father-in-law, adds his own rebuke
Hyeon Woo
Jeongguk, your behavior is unbecoming of an omega in our household. Compose yourself.
Kim Taekyu
Yeah, omegas are supposed to be elegant and refined, not blubbering messes like you.
Jeongguk's hiccups start, each word from his tormentors triggering another sob. Taehyung's father continues
Hyeon Woo
Your lack of decorum is a reflection on our family's name. I expect more from you, Jeongguk.
Kim Taekyu
Maybe we should just feed him with a spoon, like a baby.
Jeongguk's hiccups intensify, his tears streaming down his face as he tries to catch his breath. Min-soo's eyes plead with Taehyung to intervene, but Taehyung remains stoic, his expression unyielding.
Duho, Taehyung's alpha father, slams his hand on the table, his patience worn thin.
Kim Duho
Will you two stop? Can't you see he's crying? Jeongguk, look at me!
Jeongguk's tear-stained face turns to Duho, his eyes red and puffy.
Duho's expression softens slightly as he says
Kim Duho
Don't cry! Taehyung will teach you everything.
Taehyung's frown deepens, his protest immediate.
Kim Taehyung
Me? Do you think I'll sit at home and babysit a 21-year-old omega?
Duho's calm demeanor remains unwavering.
Kim Duho
It's your duty to teach him everything, Taehyung.
Taehyung's smile is mocking as he says
Kim Taehyung
If he can't learn table etiquette by himself, don't give him meals until he learns. Hard times make people stronger.
With that, Taehyung excuses himself, his chair scraping against the floor. He stands, his eyes never leaving his father's face, and walks away, his shoes' heels clicking against the costly marble floor, the sound echoing through the silent room.
As the breakfast debacle comes to a close, Taehyung's father, Duho, watches with a heavy heart as his omega husband and younger son depart the table. He turns to Jeongguk, his voice laced with regret.
Kim Duho
Jeonggukie, my child I am sorry. This is all because of me. I thought marrying you to my son would be a good decision, but it seems like these people don't like you.
Jeongguk shakes his head, his eyes cast downward.
Jeongguk
No, abeonim It's not your fault. I'm the one who's lacking.
Duho's expression softens.
Kim Duho
Nonsense, child. You have a good heart. It's just...our family can be a bit...
Jeongguk takes a deep breath, determination etched on his face.
Jeongguk
I will learn, abeonim. I will learn everything and become someone whom they won't hate. I promise.
Duho's eyes mist, touched by Jeongguk's resilience.
Kim Duho
I believe in you, Jeongguk. And I will support you, no matter what.
Duho's gentle voice breaks the silence
Kim Duho
Jeongguk, finish your breakfast. Take your time, no need to rush.
With that, he excuses himself and makes his way to the parking as he has a case hearing today
Jeongguk's hands still tremble as he tries to hold his spoon. Min-soo, sensing his distress, offers a soft suggestion.
Yoon Min Soo
Don't rush, young master Jeongguk. There are many videos available on YouTube. Why don't you watch them? You'll find table etiquette there.
Jeongguk's eyes light up with gratitude as he bites his lower lip
Jeongguk
Thank you, Min-soo-ah.
With renewed determination, Jeongguk finishes his breakfast at his own pace. Afterward, he retires to his room, but it's only a matter of seconds before he feels a wave of nausea wash over him. He rushes to the bathroom, barely making it to the toilet before emptying his stomach.
Sweat drips from his forehead as he leans against the cool tile, his breath ragged. He whispers under his breath
Jeongguk
I can't hide it any longer...
The weight of his secret threatens to crush him, and Jeongguk knows he can't keep up the charade much longer. But what will happen when the truth comes to light?
Jeongguk spends hours watching YouTube videos on table etiquette, his world spinning as he tries to absorb the new information. He knows he won't become a pro in a day or a week, but he's determined to learn.
As the day wears on, Jeongguk skips lunch, feeling nauseated at the thought of eating. He can't let anyone know about his secret yet, so he keeps to himself.
In the evening, he craves something comforting and decides to treat himself to peach coffee cake with tea. As he savors the sweet, warm flavors, he thanks the almighty that he doesn't have to endure dinner with Taehyung's family. Breakfast is already a challenge, but at least he has some respite during the other meals.
After dinner, Jeongguk returns to his YouTube tutorials, his eyes glued to the screen as he practices his table manners. As the videos continue to play, his eyelids grow heavy, and he eventually falls asleep, the soft voice of the instructor still guiding him through the world of etiquette.
Taehyung strides through the opulent foyer, his exhaustion evident despite his triumphant smile. Winning three high-profile cases back-to-back is a testament to his exceptional skill and reputation as the go-to lawyer for the influential and wealthy. His fees, a staggering 20 times higher than his peers, are a reflection of his unparalleled expertise and the prestige of his royal lineage.
As he enters his private chamber, Taehyung is greeted by the soft glow of crystal chandeliers and the gentle hum of luxurious amenities. His every need is catered to, his every desire anticipated. He has never known struggle
Never had to fight for anything. Everything has always been served to him on a gold platter, courtesy of his privileged upbringing and formidable fate.
With a weary sigh, Taehyung sheds his tailored suit, revealing a crisp, white dress shirt beneath. He pours himself a glass of fine scotch, his eyes drifting to the stunning cityscape beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows. His thoughts, however, linger on the one person who has managed to pierce the armor of his gilded existence - Jeongguk, the omega who has unwittingly captured his attention and stirred something deep within him.
Taehyung's gaze lingers on the city view for a moment before he turns to face the soft knock at his chamber door.
He says, his deep voice resonating through the room.
His secretary, Kang Do Yoon, enters with a bow.
Kang Do Yoon
Sir, it's 11:30 already. You won three cases today and then met with clients. I think you should head home now.
Taehyung nods, acknowledging Kang Do Yoon's concern. Despite his young age, Kang Do Yoon has proven to be an exceptional secretary, graduating two years ago with honors and quickly rising through the ranks to become Taehyung's right-hand man.
Kim Taehyung
Yes, I should go now. You too, Do Yoon. Go home and rest. You've earned it
Taehyung says, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiles.
Kang Do Yoon bows again, his expression grateful.
Kang Do Yoon
Thank you, sir. I'll make sure to finalize the documents for tomorrow's cases before I leave.
With a nod, Taehyung dismisses Kang Do Yoon, his mind already shifting to the comforts of his home and the prospect of a well-deserved rest. Little does he know, his thoughts will soon be occupied by a certain omega, Jeongguk, and the intriguing dynamics of their complicated relationship.
Taehyung returns home at 12:46 am, exhausted from his long day in court. As he enters his bedroom, he's met with the peaceful sight of Jeongguk sleeping, his phone still clutched in his hand. The screen shows a YouTube channel on table etiquette, and Taehyung's frown deepens. What is Jeongguk doing watching this?
Despite his better judgment, Taehyung's lawyer mind fails him, and he can't control himself. He carefully picks up Jeongguk's phone and searches his KakaoTalk messages. But there's nothing suspicious, no secret conversations or hidden agendas. In fact, Jeongguk doesn't seem to have a single friend. No social life at all.
Taehyung's eyes scan the phone, his curiosity getting the better of him. And then, they land on a file. A prescription from a hospital, and a pregnancy test report. The word "positive" jumps out at him, and Taehyung's jaw clenches.
Kim Taehyung
So I was right. Jeongguk is indeed pregnant.
Taehyung's mind flashes back to the conversation with his father two weeks ago. His father, the owner of the prestigious Tender Hearts Orphanage, had told him about a young omega boy who had become an adult and had nowhere to go. In Gorae, people become adults at 20, and this boy, Jeongguk, was already 21, having been held back a year in high school.
The head of the orphanage wanted Jeongguk to get married, but there were no suitable grooms. Who would want to marry an orphan? Taehyung's father had suggested that Taehyung himself consider marrying Jeongguk, citing his own age, 37, and upcoming birthday in December, he would be 38.
Taehyung had been least bothered about getting married, having his own reasons and secrets. But he had been curious about why the orphanage authority was so keen on getting Jeongguk married. So, he had pulled some strings and got the shocking news: Jeongguk was four weeks pregnant at the time, and now, six weeks pregnant.
Taehyung's eyes narrow as he looks at Jeongguk's peaceful face. He had suspected something was off, but he hadn't expected this. A pregnant omega, with no one to turn to, and the orphanage eager to get him married off. Taehyung's lawyer mind starts racing, sensing a deeper conspiracy.
Taehyung changes into his pyjamas, a sleek black set made of the finest silk, and heads to the balcony of his modern hanok home. The traditional architecture has been beautifully blended with contemporary design elements, creating a harmonious balance of old and new. The wooden floors creak softly beneath his feet as he walks towards the sliding glass doors, which lead to the spacious balcony.
He lights his cigar, a rare and expensive blend, and takes a long drag. His smoking power is legendary, and he can finish an entire cigar in a few swift puffs. He finds the usual cigarettes too mild, too childish, and only indulges in the finest cigars.
As he steps out onto the balcony, the cool night air envelops him.The hanok's tiled roof stretches out before him, a gentle curve of dark blue tiles that seem to shimmer in the moonlight. The balcony itself is adorned with intricate wooden carvings, a testament to the craftsmanship of the hanok's designers.
Taehyung leans against the railing, his eyes gazing out into the night as he puffs on his cigar. The smoke curls upwards, a lazy spiral that vanishes into the darkness. He is lost in thought, his mind still reeling from the discovery of Jeongguk's pregnancy. The cigar's smoke seems to fuel his thoughts, and he stands there, motionless, as the night wears on.
Taehyung's mind races with the implications of Jeongguk's pregnancy becoming public knowledge. He is King's nephew, his family's reputation is already under scrutiny. If it's discovered that Jeongguk was pregnant before their wedding, it would be a scandal of epic proportions.
But Taehyung is a master strategist. He has his own secrets and reasons for agreeing to this marriage, and he's not about to let a little thing like a pregnancy get in the way. He puffs on his cigar, his eyes narrowing as he thinks.
Why would he, Taehyung, marry a pregnant orphan omega? It seems like a ridiculous question, but Taehyung knows that appearances can be deceiving. He has something to gain from this marriage, something that outweighs the potential risks.
And so, he'll play the game. He'll smile and nod and pretend that he's the perfect husband, all while manipulating the situation to his advantage. After all, Taehyung doesn't lift a finger unless it benefits him directly. And this marriage... ah, this marriage is going to be very beneficial indeed.
Taehyung's eyes gleam with a calculating intensity as he gazes out into the night. His mind is a maze of twisted desires and ambitions, driven by a ruthless pursuit of power, wealth, and fame. Love is a weakness he cannot afford, a sentimental indulgence for the naive.
Jeongguk, the orphan boy, is merely a pawn in his game, a means to an end. Taehyung's marriage to him is a strategic move, a calculated risk to further his own interests. No one can comprehend the depths of Taehyung's thoughts, the intricate web of motives and desires that drive him.
With an IQ of 152, Taehyung is a mastermind, always thinking several steps ahead. His heart is a fortress of ice, impenetrable and unyielding. He will stop at nothing to achieve his goals, crushing anyone who dares to stand in his way.
And so, he will play the role of the devoted husband, all while manipulating Jeongguk to serve his own purposes. The world will see a perfect facade, a mask of charm and elegance, but beneath it, Taehyung's true nature will remain forever cold, forever calculating.
The darkness of the night still lingers, but Jeongguk's eyes are already open, his mind racing with thoughts of the man beside him. He turns to face Taehyung, but the bed is empty, the sheets cold and unoccupied.
Jeongguk's heart skips a beat as he scans the room, his eyes finally landing on Taehyung's figure in the rocking chair. The man is asleep, his hand touching the ground, a book on criminal justice systems resting on his chest.
Morning comes, and the first light of dawn creeps into the room, illuminating Taehyung's peaceful face. Jeongguk's gaze is drawn to him, taking in the sharp angles and gentle curves. He can't help but notice Taehyung's long eyelashes, the moles scattered across his skin like constellations in the night sky, his sharp nose, and beautiful lips. The Almighty surely took his time to create his favourite child.
Jeongguk's heart aches with a mix of emotions - fear, anxiety, and a hint of longing. He knows he can't afford to love Taehyung, not when the man is so far out of his reach. Taehyung is a luxury he can't afford, a priceless treasure he can only admire from afar.
As he looks at Taehyung, Jeongguk feels like a small boat adrift in a stormy sea, helpless against the waves of his own emotions. He knows he must be careful, that loving Taehyung would only lead to heartbreak and ruin.
With a quiet sigh, Jeongguk turns away, his eyes stinging with unshed tears. He can't afford to love Taehyung, but he can't help the way his heart beats faster when he looks at him, the way his soul reaches out to the man like a supplicant to a god.
Jeongguk's eyes cloud over as memories flood his mind. He has faced unimaginable hardships in the orphanage, scars that will never fully heal. But amidst the darkness, there were moments of kindness, glimpses of a man who would change his life forever.
Taehyung, with his chiseled features and regal bearing, had visited the orphanage several times, bringing gifts and warmth to the forgotten children. Jeongguk was 16 when he first saw him, and a sharp pang had pierced his heart. He couldn't understand the feeling then, but later, he realized he had fallen deeply in love with the man.
The problem was, Taehyung was 17 years older, a member of the royal family, and utterly unattainable. Jeongguk knew he could never have him, that their worlds were too far apart. Yet, he couldn't help the way his heart skipped a beat whenever Taehyung was near.
Now, as he gazes at Taehyung's peaceful face, Jeongguk feels the familiar ache in his chest. He knows he must keep his feelings hidden, locked away forever. For in this world, some secrets are too dangerous to reveal.
Taehyung's eyes flutter open, and the sunlight dancing across the room illuminates his iris, making his eyes sparkle like diamonds. He stretches, arching his back, and yawns, revealing his perfect teeth. As he sits up, his gaze meets Jeongguk's, who quickly looks away, trying to hide the fact that he was staring.
Taehyung smirks, accustomed to people drooling over his beauty.
Kim Taehyung
Today is Saturday
He says, his voice low and smooth.
Kim Taehyung
We need to visit my paternal grandparents in Hahoe Village. They couldn't attend our wedding due to their advanced age.
Jeongguk nods, still avoiding eye contact.
Kim Taehyung
We'll return Sunday night, as I have work on Monday. And when is your university entrance exam?
Jeongguk hesitates before answering
Jeongguk
In December, second week.
Taehyung's expression turns serious.
Kim Taehyung
Study well, Jeongguk. You must get into a prestigious university. I won't have people saying my omega is worthless and lacks intelligence. Do you understand?
Jeongguk nods, feeling a surge of pressure.
Taehyung's voice is firm.
Kim Taehyung
You have to. I expect nothing but the best from you.
Jeongguk's fingers begin to fidget once more as Taehyung heads to the shower. What if Taehyung's grandparents disapprove of him too? The thought sends a wave of anxiety through his chest.
As he waits for his turn to shower, Jeongguk's mind races with worst-case scenarios. He can't shake off the feeling of being an outcast, an orphan who doesn't belong in Taehyung's world.
When he emerges from the bathroom, Taehyung is nowhere to be seen. Jeongguk's heart skips a beat as he searches the empty rooms. Where could he be?
He makes his way to the dining room, and that's when he sees Taehyung, sitting alone at the table, sipping a cup of coffee. The morning light streaming through the window highlights his chiseled features, making him look even more regal.
Jeongguk's heart aches as he takes in the sight. He feels like an intruder, a trespasser in Taehyung's life. He hesitates, wondering if he should join him or retreat to the safety of his room.
Taehyung looks up, his eyes locking onto Jeongguk's, and for a moment, they just stare at each other, the air thick with unspoken words.
Taehyung gestures to the empty chair across from him, and Jeongguk hesitantly takes a seat. The table is spread with a traditional Korean breakfast, and the aroma of kimchi and rice fills the air. Jeongguk's stomach growls in anticipation.
As he begins to eat, he can't help but feel a sense of relief wash over him. The tension in his shoulders eases, and he starts to relax in Taehyung's presence.
But as he glances around the room, he notices the absence of Taehyung's parents.
Jeongguk keeps his head down, focusing on his breakfast, and doesn't dare ask about Taehyung's parents. He knows better than to initiate conversation with Taehyung, who is not exactly friendly or approachable.
Taehyung, too, remains silent, sipping his coffee and checking his phone. The only sound is the clinking of chopsticks against the bowl and the quiet hum of the air conditioner.
The atmosphere is formal and tense, with an undercurrent of unease. Jeongguk can't help but feel like an outsider, a mere accessory in Taehyung's life. He finishes his breakfast quickly, waiting for Taehyung to give him further instructions.
Kim Taehyung
They'll have breakfast later. On weekends, they sleep in and have a late breakfast. We'll be leaving soon, so finish up.
Jeongguk nods and takes a bite of his breakfast, savoring the flavors.
Jeongguk's eyes flutter open, disoriented, as Taehyung's voice pierces through the haze.
Kim Taehyung
Do you want to have snacks or something?
Taehyung asks, his tone neutral.
Jeongguk nods, still trying to shake off the sleep. He looks around, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. They're parked in front of a quaint convenient store, surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant flowers. The scenery is breathtaking, a stark contrast to the urban jungle they left behind
Taehyung gets out of the car, leaving Jeongguk alone.
Kim Taehyung
I'll be right back
He says, his voice fading into the distance.
As Jeongguk waits, he takes in the beauty of their surroundings. The convenient store seems to be nestled in a picturesque village, with traditional Korean houses and winding roads. The air is crisp and clean, filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers.
Jeongguk's eyes widen as he takes in the sights, feeling like he's entered a different world. He can't believe he's been sleeping for over four hours, missing out on the scenic route.
Taehyung returns with a bag of goodies, handing Jeongguk a selection of chips and cookies. Jeongguk's eyes light up as he accepts the snacks, a small smile playing on his lips.
Jeongguk
Thank you, Taehyungssi
Jeongguk says, his voice barely above a whisper.
Taehyung nods, his expression unreadable.
He says, putting the car in gear.
After another 30 minutes of driving, they finally arrive at Hahoe Village, the ancestral home of Taehyung's grandparents. The village is nestled in a picturesque valley, surrounded by rolling hills and towering trees.
As they pull up to the traditional Korean house, Jeongguk can feel his nerves fluttering. He's about to meet Taehyung's grandparents, and he has no idea what to expect.
Taehyung gets out of the car, his movements fluid and confident.
Kim Taehyung
Let's go inside.
He says, gesturing for Jeongguk to follow.
Jeongguk takes a deep breath, steeling himself for the encounter ahead. He follows Taehyung to the entrance of the house, his heart pounding in his chest.
As they enter the traditional Korean house, Taehyung and Jeongguk are greeted by maids who bow respectfully. They are led directly to the room of Taehyung's grandparents, where they are met with warm smiles.
Taehyung's grandmother, Minja, beams with delight.
Lim Minja
Taehyungie, your bride is the prettiest!
She exclaims, her eyes twinkling.
Taehyung's grandfather, Joonoh, nods in agreement.
Kim Joonoh
Sorry we couldn't attend your wedding, but we bless you with an abundance of love and happiness
He says, his voice warm and gentle.
Halmoni Minja turns to Jeongguk and presents him with a beautiful jade ring.
Lim Minja
Your gift, new bride
She says, her hands trembling with age.
Jeongguk's eyes widen in surprise, and he smiles wholeheartedly as he accepts the gift.
Jeongguk
Gamsahamnida, Halmoni
He says, bowing his head in gratitude.
Taehyung watches the exchange, his expression unreadable, but a hint of softness in his eyes.
Jeongguk can't help but stare at the jade ring, mesmerized by its beauty and how perfectly it complements his skin tone. He feels a sense of wonder and gratitude towards Halmoni Minja.
As Jeongguk sips his tea, he overhears the maids whispering in the corner. They're speaking in hushed tones, but he catches snippets of their conversation.
Maid 1: "I heard grandma and grandpa didn't attend the wedding because Taehyungssi's mother doesn't like them."
Maid 2: "Yes, the way he talks to his in-laws, why would they go? He's always been so disrespectful."
Maid 3: "Poor old people, they couldn't even attend their oldest grandson's wedding. It's a shame."
Maid 1: "I know, it's heartbreaking. They must have been so hurt."
Maid 2: "And now Taehyungssi's mother is stuck with an orphan omega son-in-law. I'm sure he is not thrilled about that either."
Maid 3: "Let's just hope Taehyungssi doesn't treat Jeonggukssi the way his mother treats his in-laws."
Taehyung, oblivious to the maids' gossip, sits serenely, his expression unreadable. Jeongguk, however, feels a shiver run down his spine, intimidated by the complex web of relationships and expectations within the royal family.
Taehyung and Jeongguk are led to their room, a beautifully decorated space with traditional Korean furnishings. They change into comfortable clothes, Jeongguk feeling a sense of relief as he sheds his formal attire.
Taehyung, now dressed in a simple white hanbok, bids Jeongguk to rest while he visits his grandparents. Jeongguk nods, watching as Taehyung exits the room with a spring in his step.
As Taehyung enters his grandparents' room, Jeongguk can sense a change in him. He seems to shed his aloof exterior, revealing a childlike attitude that Jeongguk hasn't seen before. Taehyung's smile is genuine, his laughter warm, and his eyes sparkle with affection as he greets his grandparents.
Jeongguk can't help but feel a pang of curiosity, wondering what Taehyung's relationship with his grandparents is like. He seems to adore them, and they clearly love him dearly.
But as Taehyung leaves the room, Jeongguk's thoughts are interrupted by his own needs. He quickly makes his way to the bathroom, locking the door behind him.. He takes a few deep breaths, trying to calm his racing heart.
When he returns, he finds Taehyung standing in the middle of the room, a deep frown etched on his face.
Kim Taehyung
You were throwing up? Are you sick?
Taehyung asks, his voice firm
Jeongguk's eyes widen as he feels a shiver run down his spine. He hadn't expected Taehyung to notice.
Jeongguk stammers, trying to brush it off.
Taehyung's eyes narrow, his gaze piercing.
Kim Taehyung
Don't lie to me, Jeongguk. I know what I heard.
His voice is low and even, but Jeongguk can sense a hint of anger beneath the surface.
Jeongguk's heart races as he tries to come up with an excuse, but his mind goes blank. He's trapped, and Taehyung's intense gaze makes him feel like he's been caught in a lie.
A pinch of forbidden ~ Hairpin
February's gentle breeze whispers through the curtains, carrying the sweet scent of blooming flowers into the room. Taehyung gazes at Jeongguk, who is standing before him with his pale face.
Kim Taehyung
Jeongguk, have you been vomiting?
Taehyung asks again, his voice casual.
Jeongguk's bites his lower lip, and he weakly shakes his head.
Taehyung nods, accepting Jeongguk's response without question. Before he can say more, a soft knock on the door breaks the silence.
Taehyung turns to see a maid, her face a picture of serenity, standing in the doorway.
" Excuse me, sir. I brought the tea you requested."
Taehyung nods, his eyes never leaving the maid's face.
Kim Taehyung
Thank you. Please, come in.
The maid glides into the room, her movements graceful, and places the tea tray on the coffee table. As she pours the steaming liquid into delicate cups, Taehyung's attention remains on the maid's efficient movements.
" Will there be anything else, sir?"
The maid asks, her voice barely above a whisper.
Taehyung's gaze shifts back to her.
Kim Taehyung
No, that's all. Thank you.
With a gentle bow, the maid exits the room, leaving Taehyung to focus on his tea, seemingly untroubled by Jeongguk's fragile state.
Taehyung lifts the delicate cup to his lips, savoring the soothing warmth of the tea as he takes a sip.
While sipping the tea slowly as he gazes at Jeongguk, who stands before him. Jeongguk's eyes are fixed on Taehyung's face as he asks
Jeongguk
Can I go outside and see the village around?
Taehyung's expression darkens, his brow furrowing as he takes another sip of his tea.
Kim Taehyung
It's almost evening, Jeongguk. Omegas aren't meant to wander around in the evening or night, and I won't risk your safety. Stay here, and tomorrow morning, I'll take you myself.
Jeongguk's face falls, his eyes clouding with disappointment. He looks down, his fingers beginning to fidget nervously.
Jeongguk's eyes scan the room frantically, searching for an escape route. Only two days into his arranged marriage with Taehyung, and he already feels suffocated. The alpha's reserved nature makes Jeongguk's skin crawl, and he can't shake the feeling that he's trapped in a loveless prison.
Taehyung sits across from him, sipping his tea with an air of calm detachment. Jeongguk's heart races as he thinks about the years ahead, bound to this stranger who shows no signs of affection or warmth.
Jeongguk's gaze darts to the door, his mind racing with possibilities. He has to escape, has to break free from this suffocating moment. But Taehyung's piercing eyes seem to sense his thoughts, and Jeongguk's courage falters.
With a surge of desperation, Jeongguk makes a move towards the door, his heart pounding in his chest.
He mutters, trying to sound calm.
Taehyung's expression doesn't change, but his voice is firm.
Kim Taehyung
You're not going anywhere, Jeongguk. We need to talk.
Jeongguk's fear spikes, but he knows he has to try. He takes another step towards the door, his eyes locked on Taehyung's, daring him to stop him.
Taehyung's eyes burn with intensity as he closes the distance between them, his face inches from Jeongguk's. Jeongguk's back presses against the wooden door, his heart racing with a mix of fear and adrenaline.
Kim Taehyung
When I say you're not allowed to go anywhere, it should be your sole duty to listen
Taehyung's voice is low and commanding.
Kim Taehyung
This is how omegas are born, Jeongguk. Don't you know that?
Jeongguk's tongue darts out, nervously wetting his lower lip. Taehyung's gaze follows the movement, his eyes flashing with a hint of possessiveness.
Kim Taehyung
You're married now
Taehyung continues, his voice firm but controlled.
Kim Taehyung
You'll take permission from me for every breath you take. You won't go outside alone. Do you understand?
Jeongguk's eyes widen, his chest heaving with shallow breaths. He's trapped, both physically and emotionally, by the man standing before him. Taehyung's dominance is suffocating, yet tantalizing, leaving Jeongguk unsure whether to submit or rebel.
A soft knock on the door breaks the tense silence between Taehyung and Jeongguk.
Taehyung calls out, his grip on Jeongguk's wrist still firm.
The door opens, and a maid enters with a respectful bow.
" Young Master Taehyung, your grandparents request your presence. They've asked for both you and young master Jeongguk to join them. "
Taehyung's eyes narrow slightly, but he nods curtly.
He says to Jeongguk, his voice firm.
Without releasing Jeongguk's hand, Taehyung leads him out of the room, his strides purposeful. Jeongguk follows, his heart racing with anticipation and a hint of fear. What do Taehyung's grandparents want with him?
As they approach the grandparents' room, Taehyung's grip on Jeongguk's hand tightens, a subtle reminder of his claim. Jeongguk's pulse quickens, his senses heightened, wondering what lies ahead.
Taehyung's grandmother smiles warmly, her eyes twinkling with delight.
Lim Minja
You seem to love your new bride a lot, Taehyung.
His grandfather nods in agreement, his gaze drifting to Jeongguk.
Kim Joonoh
Yes, and it's natural. Look at him, he's so pretty.
Taehyung's grip on Jeongguk's hand remains firm, his fingers intertwined with Jeongguk's in a possessive hold. Jeongguk gazes up at Taehyung with wide, innocent eyes, his expression soft and trusting.
But beneath the surface, a different reality lurks. Jeongguk is unaware of the true nature of Taehyung's grasp. To Taehyung, Jeongguk is a prized possession, a beautiful object to be claimed and controlled. The firm hold on his hand is not a gesture of love, but a display of ownership.
Jeongguk's innocence is a fragile thing, a delicate flower blooming in a world that may soon crush it. He believes Taehyung's grip is a sign of affection, but in reality, it's a symbol of his captivity.
Taehyung's grandparents exchange a nostalgic glance.
Kim Joonoh
We haven't spoken to our youngest grandson in so long. We can't make video calls ourselves, would you mind calling him for us? We'd love to see him.
Taehyung nods, releasing Jeongguk's hand to retrieve his phone.
Kim Taehyung
Sure, just a second.
As Taehyung dials the number, Jeongguk takes a step back, his eyes fixed on the screen. He's never seen Taehyung's youngest brother before, but he's heard of him - he is Taehyung's omega brother Taekyu's twin brother. He is 6 minutes younger than Taekyu. Taehyung's prime alpha the youngest brother, who's studying law in Britain.
As Taehyung dials the number, Jeongguk takes a step back, his eyes fixed on the screen. The call connects, and Taehyung's grandparents smile as they see their youngest grandson's face. But Jeongguk's view is blocked by Taehyung's shoulder, and he can't see the screen.
" Ah, halmeoni, harabeoji! "
A deep, raspy voice says, sending shivers down Jeongguk's spine. The voice is eerily similar to Taehyung's, and Jeongguk feels a shiver run down his arms.
Taehyung's grandparents chat with their youngest grandson, laughing and smiling. Jeongguk listens, entranced by the sound of the voice, wondering who this person is and why their voice has such an effect on him. Despite not seeing the face, Jeongguk feels a strange connection to the voice.
Taehyung's grandmother asks
Lim Minja
Have you seen Jeonggukie, dear?
The voice on the phone responds
" No, I haven't seen my big brother's newlywed wife yet."
Taehyung's grandmother presses
Lim Minja
Would you like to see him?
" I'll meet him once I return to Gorae."
Taehyung starts talking to his brother, his tone casual.
Kim Taehyung
Hey, Junior. How's school?
Jeongguk listens, feeling a sense of detachment. He still doesn't know his youngest brother-in-law's name, and the irony isn't lost on him. He's already sensing that he's unmatched in this royal family, where everyone seems to know each other's business except for him.
As Taehyung continues chatting with his brother, Jeongguk feels like an outsider, a stranger in a world where he's supposed to belong. He wonders what other secrets and relationships he's yet to uncover in this complex web of family dynamics.
Jeongguk's eyes widen as he listens to Taehyung's brother teasing him in English.
" Big bro, must be tired as hell. That's why he forgot to call me "
The brother says with a chuckle.
Kim Taehyung
Nothing like that, I was busy.
Taehyung's brother continues
" Oh, I know you were busy in bed."
Jeongguk's face flushes red as he understands the implication.
Taehyung's grandparents, oblivious to the English conversation, stare at each other's faces, smiling.
" Don't let brother-in-law have rest, I want 10 nephews and nieces."
Jeongguk's eyes dart to Taehyung, his face burning with embarrassment.
Kim Taehyung
He can't conceive that many babies, Junior. Stop daydreaming.
But Taehyung's brother persists, his laughter echoing through the phone.
" It's your duty to make sure his womb is never empty. I want 10 nephews and nieces!"
Jeongguk's face grows even redder as he realizes the brother is joking about him having children with Taehyung.
Kim Taehyung
Stop joking and tell me when you'll return.
" I won't return before I complete my master's degree, but I've sent a gift for your newlywed. "
Taehyung's curiosity is piqued.
Kim Taehyung
Want to talk to him?
" No, let it be a surprise for him. I'll meet him later. I'm not going anywhere, we're family."
Taehyung nods, even though his brother can't see him.
Kim Taehyung
Alright, take care and focus on your studies.
" Will do, big bro. Take care of your newlywed. I'll talk to you later."
The call ends, and Taehyung turns to Jeongguk, who's still looking flustered from the earlier conversation. Taehyung's expression softens, and he says
Kim Taehyung
My brother sent a gift for you. You'll like it.
Jeongguk's eyes widen in surprise, unsure what to expect from Taehyung's brother.
Taehyung's grandmother turns to Jeongguk with a warm smile.
Lim Minja
Can you cook, new bride?
Jeongguk nods his head, trying to appear confident.
The grandmother's face lights up.
Lim Minja
Then you will cook for us tomorrow. It's a ritual for new brides to cook for the family.
Jeongguk nods again, but inside, he starts to panic. His heart races with anxiety as he thinks about cooking for the entire royal family. What if he makes a mistake? What if his food isn't good enough?
Taehyung's grandmother continues
Lim Minja
We're looking forward to trying your cooking. I'm sure it will be delicious.
Jeongguk forces a smile, trying to hide his growing unease. He has no idea what he's gotten himself into.
Taehyung's gaze lingers on Jeongguk, his eyes narrowing slightly as he realizes the truth - Jeongguk can't cook, at least not the intricate royal dishes expected of him. Taehyung's reputation is at stake, and he can't afford to let Jeongguk's potential culinary failures tarnish his image.
With a polite excuse, Taehyung extracts himself and Jeongguk from his grandparents' presence, his grip on Jeongguk's hand firm as he leads him through the hanok's wooden corridor. The traditional Korean architecture surrounds them, the wooden floors creaking softly beneath their feet. The corridor's walls are adorned with intricate carvings, and the air is thick with the scent of old wood and tradition.
Jeongguk looks up at Taehyung with his big, doe-like eyes, his expression a mix of confusion and apprehension. Taehyung's face remains stoic, but his eyes betray a hint of concern. He knows he needs to address this situation before tomorrow's culinary ritual.
As they reach Taehyung's room, he pulls Jeongguk inside, the door sliding shut behind them with a soft thud. The silence between them is palpable, punctuated only by the sound of Jeongguk's nervous breathing.
Taehyung's voice is firm as he commands
Kim Taehyung
Watch YouTube videos and learn. I don't want you to tarnish my reputation. Got it?
Jeongguk immediately nods his head, his eyes wide with determination. He quickly grabs his phone and starts searching for cooking videos, his thumbs scrolling through the screen with a sense of urgency.
Taehyung, meanwhile, continues working on his laptop, his face focused on the screen. But every so often, his phone buzzes with an incoming message. He responds with a brief tap on the screen, his expression annoyed.
Jeongguk can't help but notice the exchange, his heart suddenly skipping a beat. Who is Taehyung messaging with such urgency? And why does he look so irritated?
A pang of jealousy shoots through Jeongguk's chest, his mind racing with possibilities. Is it Taehyung's lover, someone he's secretly communicating with? The thought sends a wave of insecurity through Jeongguk, his eyes darting back to the cooking videos as he tries to shake off the feeling.
Taehyung's phone vibrates, breaking the silence in the room. He glances at Jeongguk, who's engrossed in watching cooking videos and scribbling down recipes for tomorrow. Taehyung gets up, phone in hand, and heads to the balcony. He lights a cigar, taking a long drag as he closes the balcony door behind him, ensuring Jeongguk can't hear the conversation.
Kim Taehyung
Didn't I tell you not to call me?
Taehyung answers, his tone firm but laced with annoyance.
The voice on the other end is sultry and persuasive.
Somebody
I can't help but call you, Taehyungie.
Taehyung rubs his temple, frustration etched on his face.
Kim Taehyung
Say, what do you want?
Somebody
I want to see you
The voice responds, longing evident in the tone.
Taehyung's expression turns stern.
Kim Taehyung
No, don't forget I'm married now! Stop with this nonsense.
Somebody
I know I made a mistake, but you're my love.
Taehyung snarls, his patience wearing thin.
Meanwhile, Jeongguk watches from the room, his eyes fixed on Taehyung's silhouette through the balcony door. He can't hear the conversation, but Taehyung's body language speaks volumes. Jeongguk's heart races with a mix of emotions - curiosity, jealousy, and a hint of fear. Who is Taehyung talking to, and what's the nature of their relationship?
Jeongguk's eyes remain fixed on Taehyung's silhouette, his mind racing with thoughts. What if it's Taehyung's lover on the phone? And what if that person convinces Taehyung to leave him? Jeongguk's heart sinks at the prospect. Where will he go then?
Memories of the orphanage flood his mind, the harsh realities and struggles he faced. Living there was nothing short of pure hell. He had always dreamed of becoming an adult and escaping, but before that could happen, his life took a drastic turn.
Unconsciously, Jeongguk's hands wander to his stomach, his fingers tracing gentle patterns. It's a soothing gesture, one he's not even aware of. His eyes never leave Taehyung's figure, his thoughts consumed by the uncertainty of his future.
As Taehyung's conversation continues, Jeongguk's anxiety grows. He feels like his world is teetering on the edge, and one wrong move could send him tumbling back into the darkness he thought he'd escaped. His fingers continue to caress his stomach, a subtle attempt to comfort himself in the face of uncertainty.
Taehyung's voice is firm on the phone
Kim Taehyung
Shut your nonsense, I know exactly why you're calling. But let me tell you, I won't entertain your ways.
The caller on the other end bursts into laughter, the sound grating on Taehyung's nerves.
Somebody
How is Jeonggukie? How is his unborn child?
They ask, their tone dripping with amusement.
Taehyung's expression darkens, his frown deepening.
Kim Taehyung
That's none of your business
The person on the phone continues to taunt him, their voice dripping with familiarity.
Somebody
It's my Taehyungie's business, so it's also my business. You married Jeonggukie because of me, so how can it not be my business, baby boy?
Taehyung's grip on the phone tightens, his knuckles whitening. He can feel his anger simmering just below the surface, threatening to boil over. The caller's words are like a thinly veiled threat, and Taehyung knows he needs to end this conversation before it goes any further.
Taehyung's voice is laced with venom as he snarls
Kim Taehyung
What do you want?
The person on the other end responds, their tone dripping with desire
Somebody
I want you in my arms.
Taehyung's expression twists in disgust.
Somebody
Right now, or else Jeonggukie will know about me.
Taehyung smirks, his voice cold.
Kim Taehyung
Needy, eh? But Jeonggukie can't do anything even if he knows about you.
He continues, his words biting.
Kim Taehyung
So much love for me, where was it when I wasn't in Gorae? Cheating on me and now seeking solace in my embrace?
The person's response is immediate and menacing.
Somebody
Yes! Come tomorrow, or else I will come to your office tomorrow, baby boy.
With that, the person cuts the phone call, leaving Taehyung seething with anger and frustration. The threat hangs in the air, a constant reminder of the secrets and lies that bind him.
Taehyung enters the room, the scent of cigar smoke trailing behind him. Jeongguk looks up, curiosity etched on his face. Who was on the phone? But he pushes the thought aside, reminding himself he has no right to question Taehyung. They're married, but Taehyung hasn't consummated their union. Jeongguk's secrets weigh heavily on his mind - his pregnancy, the unknown father. What if Taehyung discovers the truth and ends their marriage?
Jeongguk's anxiety grows as Taehyung approaches him, his expression unreadable. Little does Jeongguk know, Taehyung is already aware of his pregnancy. The phone call had been a mere distraction from the truth that's been staring him in the face.
Taehyung's eyes lock onto Jeongguk's, his gaze piercing.
Kim Taehyung
Let's focus on tomorrow's cooking, shall we?
He says, his tone neutral.
Jeongguk nods, relief washing over him. But the tension between them is palpable, the unspoken secrets and lies threatening to upend their fragile marriage.
The next morning, Jeongguk wakes up early, determined to impress Taehyung and his grandparents with his cooking. He heads to the kitchen, his eyes scanning the room for inspiration. Remembering the YouTube videos he watched the night before, he begins to chop, dice, and sauté with newfound confidence.
As the aroma of sizzling meat and spices wafts through the air, Taehyung stirs on the couch, his eyes fluttering open. He's surprised to see Jeongguk busy in the kitchen, his movements swift and assured.
Taehyung's grandparents enter the kitchen, their faces lighting up at the sight of Jeongguk cooking.
Kim Joonoh
Ah, Jeonggukie, you're cooking for us?
They exclaim, their voices filled with excitement.
As they sit down to eat, the first bite leaves them speechless. The flavors dance on their tongues, a perfect harmony of sweet and savory. Taehyung's grandparents can't contain their praise, showering Jeongguk with compliments.
Lim Minja
Jeonggukie, this is incredible! You're a natural!
Kim Joonoh
Where did you learn to cook like this?
Taehyung remains silent, his eyes fixed on Jeongguk with a mixture of surprise and admiration. He hadn't expected Jeongguk to pull off such a feat, especially after their conversation the night before. But as he takes another bite, he can't deny the pride swelling in his chest. Maybe, just maybe, Jeongguk is more capable than he thought.
The silence between Taehyung and Jeongguk is palpable as they leave his grandparents' home, the tension between them almost suffocating. They arrive at Taehyung's mansion, and Jeongguk's anxiety spikes again. He can sense the presence of Taehyung's parents, his alpha and omega in-laws.
As they enter the drawing room, Taehyung's omega father looks up, his eyes rolling in exasperation as he takes in Jeongguk standing behind Taehyung.
Hyeon Woo
Your brother has sent a gift for your omega
He says, his voice dripping with disdain.
He extends a elegantly wrapped box to Taehyung, who takes it with a nod. Jeongguk's heart races as he wonders what the gift could be. Is it a peace offering or a veiled threat?
Taehyung's alpha father, seated in a plush armchair, speaks up, his voice commanding attention.
Kim Duho
Ah, yes. Your brother wants to ensure Jeonggukie is well taken care of.
Jeongguk's eyes dart to Taehyung, searching for reassurance, but Taehyung's expression remains stoic, his eyes fixed on the box in his hand.
Taehyung gestures for Jeongguk to head to their bedroom, the box clutched in his hand.
Kim Taehyung
Go ahead, I'll be right there
He says, his eyes locked on Jeongguk's.
Jeongguk nods and makes his way to the bedroom, the box feeling heavy in his hands. He sits on the bed, about to open it, when he feels warm breath on the nape of his neck. Taehyung's fingertips caress his arm, sending shivers down his spine.
Kim Taehyung
It's a hairpin
Taehyung whispers, his voice husky.
Kim Taehyung
An alpha gives it to their love interest. My brother has sent a hairpin for my omega... do you think you should wear it, Jeonggukie?
Jeongguk shakes his head vehemently, a silent
Taehyung's fingers dance on his arm.
Kim Taehyung
Good boy. My brother is a kid; he doesn't know what should be given to my omega, but it's not a hairpin. Never ever accept a hairpin from another man, got it?
Jeongguk nods, his heart racing. He closes his eyes as Taehyung sinks his teeth into the nape of his neck, the gentle bite sending waves of pleasure through him. Taehyung's tongue licks the spot, soothing the sting, and Jeongguk's body melts into his touch.
As soon as Taehyung disappears into the bathroom, Jeongguk's curiosity gets the better of him. He carefully opens the box, his heart skipping a beat as he beholds the exquisite hairpin inside. It's so beautiful that it takes his breath away.
The irony isn't lost on him - he hasn't received a gift from his own husband, yet his brother-in-law has sent him such a thoughtful present. But his delight is short-lived, as he remembers Taehyung's words:
" Never ever accept a hairpin from another man."
A shiver runs down his spine as he realizes his mistake. Doesn't his brother-in-law know that a hairpin shouldn't be given to his big brother's omega?
Just as Jeongguk is about to close the box, Taehyung's voice echoes in the room, his tone stern.
Kim Taehyung
Didn't I tell you not to touch it?
Jeongguk's heart races as he freezes, his fingers still on the box. He knows he's been caught, and Taehyung's displeasure is palpable.
