The Countryside
Episode 1
Just last year, Nina was found to be the heiress of the deceased Rong family. They had no business left but only plots of land and a large sum of money.
She thought of vengeance but her whole identity inside and out was tarnished by her family and her past lover, Charles Mo.
Nina was exhausted and so, she abandoned them all to live in the countryside. For the first time in a while, her eyes cried not because of suffering but because of the feeling of liberation.
Exactly one year later, there was a strange man passed out in front of her door.
He opened his eyes but he couldn’t speak any words. He felt himself fighting for his consciousness but he lost.
Nina called for the doctor.
Doctor
He’s fine, he only needs adequate rest and liquids.
Doctor
Do you see his eyes?
Doctor
He’s overworked himself.
Nina Sze
Do you have any room in your clinic?
Doctor
I’m afraid not Nina.
Nina Sze
I live at least a mile away from my nearest neighbor, I don’t know this man.

The doctor left before she could argue back.
She couldn’t believe he was sleeping on her bed!
She began working on her manuscript with a knife beside her just in case the man tried anything.
He had gotten up and was watching her who was diligently working.
It was absurd of her to leave him alone in her room, but he looked desperate for water.
Besides, if he wanted to, he could’ve attacked her when she wasn’t paying attention.

The stranger glared at her.

It was sold a year ago and I bought it.
He remained silent as he seemed to be thinking about his situation.

She thought her fried rice was fine.

She wondered why she even asked.
Despite saying that, he came with her anyways.

This farmhouse is new.

Chicken manue were all over.
The stink was unbearable for him and at least a year ago Nina was the same.
She heard the door shut and she turned around. He was watching her by the window.

What did I expect?
It’s always the feeds the chickens go crazy for. When they came running for food, that’s when she snatched a dozen of eggs.

Thank you for your sacrifice.
She cracked three eggs for her fried rice.

It’s not like I’ll put poison on your food.
He was monitoring her every movement, but she couldn’t blame him. Who in their right mind would trust a stranger?
She decided to trust him. She needed to.
He was like a spoiled brat who needed to be served.

Just call me over when you need something, I’ll be outside.
He watched her shoveling through the chicken manure which he thought was impressive. Afterwards, she watered her mini garden.

Do you need anything else?
He was looking up clothes on her computer.
She slammed the door on her way out of her room.
Nina Sze
At least shake your head.
She muttered under her breath.

It wasn’t intentional.
She sounded pissed and she was pissed. She wasn’t fooling anyone.
She laid on her belly on the floor of her porch and began to draw for her new project.
The door opened and she glared back at Aubrey who sat on the rocking chair.

Why’d you come here by the way?
Talking to him was pointless.
She looked back on her drawing.

Laying like that while wearing a dress...

Nina Sze
I’m wearing shorts you pervert.
He didn’t look, his eyes were on the little chicks pecking at the ground.

Nina let out a small laugh.
Episode 3
Other than Aubrey ordering Nina Sze to cook, they were quietly minding their own businesses all day.
When Nina went out to draw he accompanied her when she went inside he followed her.
It wasn’t as if this made Nina uncomfortable though, it’s been awhile since she’s had company.
She looked at his eyes as they ate chicken for dinner. That was when she noticed that they were lifeless.
His sharp gaze then shifted to hers making her look down on her food.

What were you doing?
Nina Sze
Checking if you liked the food.
To Aubrey, her cooking was simple but it’s the best ones he’s ever tasted in his life.
Nina Sze
When will your clothes arrive?
Silence swept over again.
Nina Sze

Aubrey Kung
None of your own business.
The next day, furnitures arrived. After feeding herself, Aubrey, and the chickens, she had to assemble them herself while he read a book comfortably on the couch.
“What an assh*le” she kept repeating in her head and her face had completely shown that to him.

How are you going to bring that to my room?

She had a burst of anger and kicked it as hard as she could. Of course this went back to her.

He stood up anyways and brought her over an ice pack.
Thirty minutes passed and she was beside him on the couch. There was knocking coming from their door which Aubrey answered.
Doctor
It’s just a bruise.

Just keep applying ice pack.

Take this anti-inflammatory pills.
Aubrey messaged the doctor it seems.

Take care of dinner.

There’s still some chicken.

That was new, no one’s ever proclaimed their hatred to him in his face.

Her family, Charles, and all the rich families trampled on her because she was weak.

Though she attempted to stop it, just the remembrance of them pained her heart and she began to sob.
Her eyes which were full of life suddenly became dull.

She tried to get up but he pulled her back down.
