PROLOGUE

"What do I have to do for you to stay huh, just what "he yelled at her and she flinched still refusing to look at him in his eyes , her silence steered his anger the more "you know what just forget it, you wanna leave right , then leave,leave and don't ever think of coming back"he ranged,veins popping out of this neck , he expected her to say something, to call his name , to apologize, to tell him she won't leave but he got nothing instead she turned her back on him and walked away without looking back, she was about to take another step when he suddenly wrapped his hands around her and whispered in her ear"ple... please, don't leave me, please".

~CHAPTER 1~

CONGRATULATIONS

"I hope today goes well, please give me some luck God"Ariel muttered as she prepared her self for her job interview which is today,she hurriedly eat her breakfast and cleared the table as she swiftly took her bag and dashed to the door before hailing a cab

"Gawd,why today of all day" Ariel grumbled,she was stuck in a traffic which looked like it was going to last the whole day"no,no,no,no,no" she mumbled in frustration as she checked the time on her wrist watch and her eyes bulged out "7:36,I can't be late,this is not good" she kelp on grumbling and gave out a loud sigh removing her hand out of her bag as she gave the driver a dollar note,"I think I'll just find my way from here"she said to him with a warm smile and he nodded and returned the smile in response

" Finally "she heaved a sigh of relief as she stop in front of a building" I still have some minutes left" she said checking her wrist watch again,as her bent to catch her breath from running" wow,it's even go gigantic seeing it in person "she marveled with admiration as she raised her head to look at the fifty storey building in front of her with the company's name written boldly on it SKY HIGH which was sparkling under the sun

She took in deep breaths while reassuring herself " you can do this Ariel, there's nothing to fear, you've come this far so there's no going back,yes ,no going back "she mustered enough courage and walked straight into the building, she spotted the receptionist and walked to her"good morning,my name is ariel and I'm her for the job interview" she said to the receptionist with a smile "oh, ok then come with me please miss ariel"the receptionist replied and gestured her to follow her lead , as she made her way to the elevator , they both entered and the receptionist pressed a button and the door close while the elevator went up

Soon they both came out of the elevator and walked towards an office stopping at the door the lady turned to her "just go straight in,to the second door" she said with a smile and ariel returned the smile while wondering what second door she was talking about but didn't get the chance to ask cause the lady left almost immediately

She sighed before entering and was surprised to see an empty desk but brushed it aside before looking around and her eyes caught sight of another door,"so this was what she was talking about,an office inside an office,huh" she thought to hherself making her way to the second door, she stared at the door as if there was a monster at the other side waiting to divore her if she opened the door, taking deep breath she summoned enough courage to knock on the door and almost immediately a deep brass voice called out from the other side

"Come in" She pushed open the door slowly and walked inside "sit" came his deep brass voice again she almost drolled as she stared at the man who sat behind the desk, he was handsome, no a perfect creation, a masterpiece to say, from his black hair to his beautiful hazel eyes which she now realize was staring at her

"I'm sorry" she apologized immediately and sat down

"Miss Hemsworth, right!"

"Yes" she replied, he stared at her for a while as her heart was already beating out of her chest"if a product of this company was returned with and accused fault from the other party, what do you think we should do, miss Hemsworth "

She was shocked by his sudden question" wait has the interview started already" she said to herself, staring at him with a shocked expression, before composing herself and with a calm face she answered "I'll suggest we first find where the fault was from,from our company or the other and if truly it was from our company, then I'll kindly accept the blame and fix a new product that is problem free for the other party in order to keep the company's reputation up to standard sir",she was wanting for a response from him but he just stared at her coldly which made her scared "did I say it wrongly, why isn't he saying anything" she said in her head trying to read his expression but got nothing, his face was blank and she subconsciously let out a loud sigh

"And what if the other party is so focused on bringing down the company's reputation by not accepting to your terms" came his voice as he asked another question , she stared at him for a while before speaking up

"in that case I'll let him lay down his own term and if it is acceptable, we'll go by it since the fault came from us so we have to bear the consequences of our carelessness "she concluded

" And what if his terms are not acceptable and the other party files a court case"he fired at her almost immediately ,she gulped down nothing as she gripped the hem of her skirt" is he trying to force me to give up with all this questions"she said to herself suddenly regretting of applying for the job

"Well" she started "if he wants to take the matter to court, it will be a big problem to the company" she halted squeezing her brows " but he will be the one at loss, there must have been an agreement signed between the two parties, though we were at fault,we tried to sort out the matter at which he didn't agree with and went out filing a case against the company, we still have legal evidence which are the document both parties signed and as long there's a proof that all was an accident and someone to testify on our effort to sort the case at first, we can win the case with him going home with nothing"she concluded feeling uncomfortable under his gaze,

he was about to speak when a knock came on the door "come in he ordered" as a young man around his twenties with blonde hair came in "boss it time for your meeting with mr penlinh" he announced, his gaze meeting with that of ariel which he gave out a warn smile and she reciprocated the smile but her one second peace was disturbed as the boss cleared his throat

"what time is it" he asked the blond hair guy"this is 9:00 Sir and you are supposed to be there by 9:30"the blond haired guy stated

"Alright then, let's go"the boss said standing up from his chair and heading to the door, ariel's eyes widened as she stared at him "does that mean I didn't get the job , all my efforts, all gone"she wailed inside almost to the bridge of tears suddenly the boss turned back "I'm Robert Mendez, welcome to Star High" he said before leaving the office and leaving her in a state of shock "did he just say welcome, does that mean... Oh, fuck I got the job , yes"she jumped in happiness as it was short lived when a man around his thirties with thick beards came into the office " here are the files that needs to be sorted out Mrs Hemsworth "he said with a little bow "

"wait what file"she asked looking puzzled" "did the inform you "the man asked looking at her puzzled face" he didn't "she replied unsure of what's going on even though she knows it within her heart, "he didn't even give me time to rest" she mumbled under her breath " what did you say"the man asked making her realize where she was" it's nothing, I'll take that, uh, please where's my office "she asked politely" please come with me miss, as they headed out of the second office to the first and he stopped "here is your office miss" she said to her " oh, well thank you then" he did a quick bow before leaving

" Seriously , now I have to see his face everyday", she sighed in frustration when she suddenly thought of something "what's my post" she asked no one in particular, she was still trying to figure out when the door opened and the man came back "oh, I forgot to inform you of your post" he hesitated seeing the curiosity in her eyes before continuing "well i hope you have a nice day secretary ariel" and with that he left

" Ah, why does everyone here do th.....,wait did he just call me secretary ariel, secretary 'she repeat the word secretary over five time then a huge smile covered her face , "i should get to work" she said diverting her attention to the stack of files on her desk

Ariel pushed open her door entered her house she met a guy standing and staring at her "you're back, and it's late, did something happen to you" Daniel her boyfriend asked, his eyes filled with love and care as he stroked her hair

"I got the job dan" she announced "wow that's good news"hugging her "I'm proud of you" giving her a light peck on the lips " I made dinner, you hungry?" disengaging from the hug to go to the kitchen "

" nah, I'll pass , I'm really tired and I need a good night sleep against tomorrow, I'm sorry babe"she said making puppy eyes, he heaved out a sigh " fine","good night then" she siad giving him a peck on his right cheek as she made her way to her bedroom

almost Immediately he got a call and he grinned as he saw the caller ID

~ Chapter 2 ~

Opening her eyes, ariel groaned as the sunlight hit her eyes "close it back, please" she tossed around the bed eyes still closed when the bed cover was suddenly yanked off from her body,she gasped opening her eyes and was surprised at who she saw

" Lee when did you get in here, how come I didn't hear you coming" she questioned stressing the last part receiving a glare from Leonardo which was suddenly replaced with a wide grin "well I came in here while you were snoring your soul out and secondly I think he already left for work" rolling his eyes at her

"oh,he left already" she muttered but he heard her " seriously are you gonna sulk up again, geeze Ellie" he sighed frustratedly "sorry it's not my fault, he just left like that, at least he could have woke me up" she said pouting her lips and he ruffled her hair "maybe he didn't want to wake you from your sleep" he coaxed and she nodded when suddenly she jumped away from the bed, her sudden action scared him, "what's wrong, why the serious face all of a sudden", she just walked past him without replying but was silently cursing under her breath and entered the bathroom

"seriously" he scoffed, after some minutes she came out with a towel wrapped around her body, "why are you suddenly in a hurry, where are you going" Leonardo walked towards her grabbing her arm "talk to me Ellie what's happening" he asked looking straight into her eyes, "ah, nothing ok , nothing's happening" ,she said trying to get away from his grip which seems impossible "just stop pestering me I'm already late for work that's all thanks to put you"she said when he released his grip from her

"You've started working, how come I didn't know about this" he stared at her with a murderous look, "don't look at me like that" she said seeing his expression from the mirror, fine I know I should have told you I was job hunting for a while but, I just did that so that I won't be a burden to you, you know, always asking for your help always , and I started working yesterday, though it was unexpected but i love this new job"she beamed trying to explain things to him

"At least you should have told me" he said as he made his way downstairs "I'm so sorry lee" she shouted from behind

Minutes later she was downstairs,the dining table already set with food, 'tempting but no "she said to herself before turning to Leonardo "I'm sorry lee but I think I'll skip breakfast I'm already late now" " you're skipping my breakfast because of a new job, wow, great"

sensing that he was already angry she slowly hugged him from behind "I'm sorry lee but I'm really late for work can you let this one slide just for me, pretty please"she begged acting all cute "ok" he turned her to face him "only on one condition" he siad grinning like a wild cat"what condition, i don't trust you " before she could move away from him,he pecked her cheeks, furiously she punched his chest and he groaned in pain

"that hurts, my heart, ah" he cried playfully " well if you hadn't pull that stupid trick maybe i wouldn't have done that"she said rolling her eyes

"seriously,maybe?,what were you planning to do to me "he asked backing away from her," can you stop being a drama queen for a second "she groaned "I have to go now, bye"she left the house before he can say anything and a frown formed instantly on his face

"Shit I'm late, I'm late" Ariel kept on muttering to herself praying no one would see her as she made her way to the elevator when suddenly a hand gripped her shoulder and a tiny scream came out from her "I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to scare you"a gentle voice apologized

" blondie" she sighed as she saw who it was, "did you just call me blondie" his voice changed almost to that of robert "shit i said that out loud" she mumbled to herself trying to thing of something to please him immediately but was shocked with his sudden out burst of laughter "I'm really sorry" he said admits laughter" what's happening" she said to herself" after what seemed like a whole day, he calmed down

"I'm Deren Gillian, Mr Mendez P.A" he said stretching his hands forward for an handshake which she took "Ariel Hemsworth" she said shaking his hand " nice to finally talk to you miss ariel,it's an honor to speak with a beautiful lady like you "he complimented and winked at her which made ariel blush to his sweet word, "is he flirting with me, gosh"

"I assume you are heading to your office"he said and she nodded in response " ok then, I hope you don't mind we going together,i have actually going to repot some documents to mr Mendez"he suggested " no, no,that not a problem at all" she said flashing him a bright smile as they both entered the elevator

"So you're the new secretary huh",he stated "and I'm guessing you know nothing about Mr Mendez, or do you"he asked staring at her " no" she responded solemly "I did even know he was the boss to begin with" she said with a sigh " maybe you can tell me a little important detail about him like his does and don't "

" Well Mr Mendez is a nice boss who always treats his workers evenly, about his does and don't well you'll get to know those very soon" he replied with a wide grin leaving her confused "what do you mean by that, aren't you going to give me an heads-up, like seriously Deren "her confused face already replaced with a frown "well ,what I'm trying to say is that Mr Mendez is ... Uhm.. how will I put this" , trying to look for the right words, ariel just stared at him looking more confused and scared than before "he's more of a complicated guy" he finally landed " but don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy if you understand him well" he flashed her a smile and the elevator made a ding sound as it's doors opened and he walked out leaving her lost in her thoughts,"Ah, forget it"she sighed before making her way to her office

putting all her focus in her work , she didn't realize when robert walked towards her desk , it took some minutes for her to realize someone was staring at her, she was shocked to see Robert there,"when did he get here ,did i do something wrong ,oh gwad"she siad to herself ,her heart beating out of her chest,she quickly got on her feet "I'm really sorry sir , i had no idea you were here, please forgive me " she apologized,her body shaking slightly with the fear he might get angry, but his next action shocked her as he just walked past her and went for the door, "ok, so he didn't yell at me which was a good thing,phew "she said to herself,but noticed he stopped at the door "prepare we have a meeting to attend two minutes from now"he announced," meet me downstairs when you're done" "two minutes, why didn't he inform me earlier, shit"she said to no one in particular as she quickly arranged her files and went after him

"I'm here ,we can go now sir"she said immediately she got to him but was surprised to see him with a lady "wow she's pretty "she commented on the lady's beauty " and who the fuck are you " the lady barked at her like they were sworn enemies,the disgust in her tone could not be hidden

Ariel as about to speak but Robert beat her to that "she my new secretary,is there a problem with that" he asked,from his tone one can guess he was provoked

"Hmph, secretary you say huh,well I don't like her "she replied bluntly," she's nore like a home wrecker than a secretary"she said straight forwardly scanning ariel from head to toe,

"That's enough Lisa"Robert said his cold face even colder " I'm really sorry babe, please don't be mad,i didn't come all the way from france to make you mad"she said pouting her lips as she pecked his cheeks"I don't have time for this Lisa I've got a meeting to attend, we'll talk later" he ignored her and walked off " but babe, seriously are you going to treat me this way in front of this bitch"she said eying ariel

" Fine,you can wait for me in my office,I'll be back soon" he just siad that so she can let go of him "ok,babe, I'll be waiting" she pecked his cheeks as she cat walked away

"And here I am thinking she was a beauty, yea, beauty without brains"ariel mumbled under her breath as she left with Robert

~ Chapter 3~

"I think that's all for today"Deren announced as everyone left the meeting room either in twos or three "finally it's over" Ariel muttered as her gaze met with deren's and he smiled at her which she noticed he has been doing everytime they made eye contact, she shrugged the thought off as she packed the documents on the table and they all made their way out of the meeting room

"Is there anything else for today"Robert asked, tiredness visible in his voice as he rubbed his temple

"Yes, you still have to meet up with the mayor by 3:00 and attend lady Larissa's engagement party by 7:00"Daren listed out his remaining schedules for the day as Robert sighed

"We still have some minutes before we go meet the mayor, you can use this little time to rest boss, you do look tired "Daren requested but Robert only nodded in response and exited to his office leaving the two to themselves

"You should take a break too,you also look tired"before she could object he added" it's an order from your senior "she reluctantly agreed and he flashed her a smile like he always does

"Do you smile at everything" she scoffed

" It's something wrong with my smile,it a sincere smile"he was looking puzzled waiting for her to continue,to which she didn't he came closer to her rubbing his chin

"You know I'm beginning to think you're mad at me for something I did, right"

" Ah" ,she sighed," firstly I'm not mad at you,besides I already forgave you" she replied

" So you were mad at me,seems I was right" she was about to argue with him when her belly made a loud grunt-like sound "this is so embarrassing" she muttered with flushed cheeks,daren gave her the 'you're hungry' look ,she looked away and he chuckled lightly before holding her hand which surprised her

"come,I think there will be something you might like in the cafeteria" he said dragging her out of her office into the elevator,when she came back to her senses she pulled her hands away from his

"I'm sorry but I can't,Mr Mendez might need me If I go to the cafeteria with you " she said thoughtfully, weighing the pron and cons of the action she was about to take

"You worry too much, don't you" ,he sighed " I bet you're really hungry and you're still thinking about your loyalty to your boss , on an empty stomach "he said, emphasizing on the word 'on an empty stomach',

"fine, just ths once" she finally agreed when her belly made noises again "if anything happens it's your fault"she stated " deal, you won't regret it" he agreed to her condition

And true to his words she didn't regret it, the meals at the cafeteria was just so delicious that she kept on praising the chef while daren kept on staring at her ,amazed by her huge appetite

"isn't females supposed to have little appetite"he asked

" I skipped dinner yesterday cause I was tired and today I skipped breakfast cause I was late for work" she explained and he nodded still starting at her

"So,can you tell me more about yourself"trying to ease the awkwardness, She was about to speak when someone called out to daren and she looked up to see a man walking towards them while waving at their table

Seriously dude you came here without telling me , no fair the man pouted

"Sorry, I forgot you existed "he joked as both men fell into laughter, Ariel just stared at them, not saying a word until the man noticed her

"Wow,is she your girlfriend,she looks pretty" he asked daren and winked at ariel

" Not funny, she's the new secretary and....." he was interrupted by the man as he stretched his hand to Ariel for a handshake introducing himself" im Maxwell, but you can call me max, and you're pretty lady

"U- uhm, I'm Ariel" she starmerred as she took his hand and he kissed her knuckles acting like a gentleman "ariel, such a beautiful name for a beautiful lady" he complimented before daren could push him away

"Have some shame max, you're flirting in broad day light "daren teased rolling his eyes at him

" Sorry for his stupid behavior', daren apologized to Ariel, "who are you calling stupid" max puffed up looking upset and made to punch daren, the two kept on bickering and no one paid attention to them knowing this was part of their daily routine

Ariel's sudden laughter made them halt

" you both are just so funny, i think you'll do well if for comedians, really then I don't mind quiting my job to follow our dream, max said dramatically holding her hand

"what do you mean by our dream" Ariel asked looking puzzled

"My lady, are you questioning our love, ah, don't worry you can take your time to..... "he wasn't able to complete his sentence when someone smacked his head from behind "oh, no only one person hits me like that"he mumbled as he immediately let go of Ariel hands as if she was on fire which surprised her, slowly he turned back to meet a angry lady beside him

"hey Jeanie...... I can explain, pls don't be mad, it was dar...... "before he could complete his words she pushed him aside and sat in the empty chair beside Ariel, "were you about to blame me"Daren quered and Max just rolled his eyes at him

"Hi, I'm Jeanie, and I guess you must be Ariel, right", she introduced herself before flashing her a bright smile

"Yea, uhm.. how did you know my name" , Ariel asked trying to figure out what was going on

"Well this big mouth told me about you yesterday "she said pointing at daren

"Oh", that was only what she could mutter"what's going on,I thought she was gonna lash at me for talking with her boyfriend,oh wait,is she just faking it and then she would pounce on me later" she thought ,her head was like a scattered jigsaw puzzle now

"It's not what you think we're just friends,I was just mad at him because he didn't come to call me to lunch while I was waiting for him "Jeanie said as if she was reading her mind

"Oh,I'm sorry I didn't mean to..." she siad biting her bottom lip,the atmosphere was already awkward

"we should leave now,we still have work to do" daren reminded ariel as she stood up

"I need to go, i hope we meet again"

"sure as long as we in this company there's no way we cant see each other" max replied flirtatiously which earned him another punch from Jeanie "ouch that hurts anie" she rolled her eyes and gave him the middle finger

"I think we should be going now" Daren whispered in her ear and she nodded as they left the two trouble makers to themselves
