She hid the money and never told her parents about it. Soon, After 2 weeks she discovered that she was pregnant.
Her parents were very disgusted and kicked her out of the house.
Ember wannted to do a abortion, but then she thought of the possibility that he ("rich guy") might return some day.
Now, Hazel has turned 16, but that guy is still not found.
Ember never treated Hazel with love. She only ordered her around and would also beat her. Because she thinks her life got ruined because of her.

She eventually became strong mentally and physically. She is still scared of her mother.But she loves her more.
She is aloof toward others and also talks rudely.But for her mother,she is always timid.
