PAST LIFE - (Evelyn as Ellara)
The village erupted in chaos as Ellara was dragged through the muddy streets by an angry mob, their cries of “TRAITOR! SHE IS A WITCH!” Echoing through the night. The faces of those she once healed were now twisted with hatred, their eyes filled with betrayal.
On the ancient stone bridge, the night air was thick with mist and cold. Ellara stood at the edge, trembling as she faced a woman. Her face was blurred but she could sense she was speaking but couldn't get the word out. Ellara suddenly felt the searing pain in her stomach. Glancing down, she saw the dagger embedded deep within her flesh.
When she looked up again, the woman's face was a mask of twisted satisfaction. She felt that, With a cruel smirk on her lips. The woman extended her hand and shoved Ellara off the bridge. The icy river below engulfed her with a splash. The freezing water stung her wounds, and within minutes, Her lungs screamed for air. She struggled to stay float, but the current was too strong. Accepting her fate, she closed her eyes, letting the water pull her down.
Evelyn jolted awake, her heart pounding and breath ragged. The nightmare was vivid, more real than ever before. She has been having these nightmares for years after her parents died in a car accident. She could still feel the phantom of pain in her stomach and the cold water surrounding her. She sat up in bed, trying to shake off the lingering feeling.
PAST LIFE - (Liam as Lysander)
An armed warrior stood on a battlefield, the sounds of sword clashing and dying men filling the air. His armor was battered, his face streaked with blood and sweat. Chaos reigned around him. A comrade rushed to his side, eyes wide with fear. “LYSANDER SIR! SIR WE BEEN BETRAYED!”
Lysander turned just in time to see a woman standing on a sloped cliff, her face obscured by shadows. She aimed an arrow at him with a deadly precision. The arrow flew straight and true, piercing his heart. Pain exploded in his chest as he collapsed to the ground. The woman approached him, her lips moving, but her words were inaudible, and her face remained a blur. As the pain ebbed away, he closed his eyes, succumbing to the cold numbness.
Liam awoke with a start, sweat soaking his sheets. The nightmare had been so real, the pain so intense. He could still hear the voices of cries and screaming for life. He sat up, trying to shake that feeling. The morning light filtered through his windows and despite the unsettling start, the day waited.
In two different places, two souls began their day with the same thought “That same stupid dream again.” The echoes of their past life haunted their dreams, leaving them with the inexplicable sense of dread and longing for answers. As Evelyn and Liam prepared to face their day, little did they know that their paths were destined to cross, and their shared history would soon begin to unravel.
Evelyn stood in her living room, surrounded by shelves brimming with ancient artifacts and framed photographs. The pictures chronicled her childhood, depicting her with her parents until she was ten years old, and then only featuring her and her brother, Ren. She glanced at a photo of her and Ren on a dig site from a few years back, a smile touching her lips. Taking a deep breath, she gathered her things and headed out the door.
Evelyn drove through the quiet streets of Raventon, the early morning sun casting long shadows across the road. The outskirts of the town were even more serene, with fields stretching out under the clear sky. She felt a mix of anticipation and unease, her mind wandering to the site and the discoveries waiting for her team.
Arriving at the dig site, Evelyn parked her car and joined her colleagues, who were already busy with their work. The sun beat down on them as they meticulously brushed away dirt and cataloged their finds. The atmosphere was focused but relaxed, with occasional light-hearted banter breaking the silence.
"Evelyn, you won't believe what I just found," one of the junior archaeologists called out, holding up a small, weathered artifact. Evelyn made her way over, her curiosity piqued. As she took the item from him, she felt a familiar thrill run through her.
The amulet was intriguing, its surface etched with symbols that seemed eerily familiar. Evelyn traced the intricate patterns with her gloved finger, a chill running down her spine. Just then, one of the team members handed her a weathered manuscript. The script was ancient, and although the words were indecipherable, the symbols matched those on the amulet.
Before she could delve deeper, Dr. Harris, her senior colleague, approached with a concerned expression. "Evelyn, the local authorities have been in contact. There have been some recent incidents in the area, and they believe there might be a connection to our findings here.
"Evelyn looked up from the manuscript, curiosity piqued. "What kind of incidents?" she asked.
"Disappearances," Dr. Harris replied, lowering his voice. "Several locals have gone missing over the past few weeks. The police think it might have something to do with the legends surrounding this site.
"Evelyn's interest deepened. "Legends? You mean the old stories about the ancient civilization that once lived here?
"Dr. Harris nodded. "Exactly. The villagers have always spoken of curses. But we need to tread carefully. The police want a detailed report of our findings, and they’ve assigned a detective to investigate.
"Evelyn felt a mix of excitement and unease. The amulet and manuscript could be the key to uncovering not just historical secrets, but also solving the current mystery. She took a deep breath, ready to dive into the investigation. "I'll start compiling the report right away. And I want to meet this detective. If there’s a connection, we need to figure it out.
"Dr. Harris chuckled softly. "Just don't scare the detective away with your enthusiasm. Not everyone shares our love for ancient mysteries.
"Evelyn grinned. "I'll try to tone it down. But you know me, I can't help it."
As she set to work, Evelyn felt a renewed sense of purpose. The artifacts and the manuscript were pieces of a larger puzzle, and she was determined to put them together. The thrill of discovery, combined with the urgency of the recent incidents, made the task ahead both daunting and exhilarating.
Liam woke up with a start, drenched in sweat. Sitting up in bed, he rubbed his temples, trying to shake off the remnants of the nightmare. Just as he was lost in thought, his mother’s voice called up from downstairs.
"Liam, Wake up its Afternoon, Lunch is ready! And don’t forget, I need your help with some chores today," she called out.
Sighing, Liam got out of bed and made his way downstairs. As he entered the kitchen, his mother noticed his troubled expression.
"Is it the dream again?" she asked softly, her brow creasing with concern.
Liam nodded, grabbing a piece of toast. "Yeah, same old nightmare.
His father, hearing the exchange, decided to intervene. "You know, son, if you had a girlfriend to keep you company, maybe those nightmares wouldn't bother you so much," he said with a teasing grin.
Liam rolled his eyes. "Dad, not this again."
"Oh, come on," his mother joined in, smiling. "There’s that nice girl at the bakery. You know, the one who always gives you an extra muffin?"
"Mom, she's just being friendly. And besides, I don't have time for dating right now," Liam replied, shaking his head.
"Well, if you keep this up, you'll end up an old, single detective surrounded by cats," his father said, chuckling. "Maybe you should quit your job and focus on finding someone. You can't solve mysteries and remain a bachelor forever!"
Liam laughed despite himself. "Very funny, Dad. I'll add 'find girlfriend' to my list of things to do right after 'solve the mystery of the missing townspeople.'
"His mother chimed in again, "You know, your father and I met on a mystery of our own. I was trying to figure out why he kept hanging around my favorite café."
"Because I was trying to muster up the courage to ask you out," his father said, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "And it was the best mystery I ever solved.
Liam couldn't help but smile at their banter. "Alright, alright, you two. Stop with your love story. I'd rather make one than to listen to yours!"
Feeling slightly better, Liam finished his breakfast, helped his mom with the chores, and then headed to work. Once at the Raventon police station, he settled into his dimly lit office, surrounded by stacks of missing persons reports.
The recent spate of disappearances had the entire town on edge. His sharp eyes scanned the documents, searching for any clues that might tie the cases together. The chief of police, Officer Carter, walked in and handed Liam a folder."
We need your help on this one, Liam," Officer Carter said, his voice grave. "The disappearances seem to be connected to an archaeological dig site nearby. We’ve got historians and archaeologists involved, and it's a bit out of our usual jurisdiction."
Liam opened the folder and quickly scanned the documents. The details were vague, but one thing caught his eye: the symbol found on an amulet discovered at the dig site matched a recurring image in his nightmares. His curiosity turned into a sense of urgency. He had to get to the bottom of this.
"An archaeological site, you say?" Liam asked, looking up from the folder.
"Yes, they found some artifacts that might be linked to the legends around here," Officer Carter explained. "You'll be meeting the lead archaeologist tomorrow. She's been working on the site for months and might have some insights."
Liam nodded, closing the folder. "I’ll head over first thing in the morning."
As Liam left the station, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this case was more than just a series of disappearances. The symbols, the connection to an ancient dig site—all of it felt strangely intertwined with his own dreams.
