The city has been divided into Democratic and Republican sides. Due to each side's massive influence, the school system eventually became involved. The students, our future, must be preserved no matter the cost. The students had to pick a side and come together to different schools to make a presentation. One side claimed we need to fight against corruption to end the cycle of hatred and despair. The other side claimed we need a stable and unjustified government that will do whatever is necessary to protect its citizens.
Once the vote and ballots came in, the Constitution died along with them. At this point, the only things that mattered were what we had left to stand for. So many people have died because of bad judgment and corruption. The loss was so great, that many feel that they can no longer trust the system in which they are trapped. The sad thing is, we once did but never again. The Constitution was the foundation for right and wrong, cause and effect, life and learn life and death.
These concepts have all come into play and have been pushed aside by our protectors. The outdated system now, more than ever, truly shows its real age. We still are being separated into groups instead of being seen as one. Brutality toward certain races is increasing. Abduction and experimentation are taking place.
The ideals this country was built upon were not perfect, but everything was still connected in some way. We all are being divided into sections now and those who don't agree with it are eliminated. The rules have changed and it is getting worse as time goes on. The citizens started to retaliate through mini riots that grow every day. They decided to start destroying anything related to the government like police precincts, banks, and stores.
The rioters began to be seen as public enemy number one and everyone connected to the riot became a target. What remained of the police force tried to stop them, but failed. Government officials did not want this to become a national crisis so they eventually decided to negotiate with them because it was almost the whole town involved in the riots. The government gave them a choice to either become fully involved with them or either live life without them. There was a lot of speaking for everyone and it seemed like they didn't want to be involved with the government anymore.
On judgment day, before the decision was made, a suitcase-sized, the radioactive bomb was detonated in the heart of the city. Thousands died that day and the few that survived were either lucky or had government protection. Among those select few were students and a teacher on their way to meet with the Commander-in-Chief about the topic. The meeting never occurred because their plane got hit by a missile that made them crash land on an unknown island.
This is their story. The story of a tragedy.
Present Time, October 25, 2008.
I felt a great passionate voice lingering up inside of me, "To make the society pure, every nation needs a pure reformer. He or she can observe the society closely and can initiate the steps necessary to change society. There must be someone who has a desire to end the cycle of poverty and corruption. There has always been a balance between doing right and wrong as both have their own consequences. Our aim in this society is to get back to that balance which once gave the city life."
I looked towards the window on the right side of the classroom, "I understand that every nation wants to be free and just like everything else in the world that freedom comes at a cost. The freedom we've all fought so hard to protect caused us to start a war with our government. Though I'm very young and don't have all the answers, I've seen firsthand the extreme measures the government will go through just to keep something secret."
I drop the paper down on the ground, "Certain things they've done have been deemed a necessary evil, and that, to a certain degree, is understandable. For them just to start targeting people, whom they claim to protect, by taking away our livelihood, increasing police brutality, and enacting human experimentation is unacceptable. Thank you all for giving me the chance to speak my mind."
My teacher introduced me, and everyone clapped, I felt happy.
As I left the stage, I and my teacher made eye contact, "Great job Sid, it's always you and Lloyd putting in the extra effort in class especially on topics like this."
I smiled, "It's our life, it's our future, we take it personally."
I went on to tell her that I was ready to go home.
"Leaving so soon?" she asked. "I just want to go back to sleep, Ma'am."
She went to the stage holding the papers, "Alright,"
And gave me permission to go home. I left the school amid the glares of several the teachers and classmates, not an unusual occurrence. As I headed home, I saw many surrounding fires and heard people yelling.
Someone yelled, "It's their turn to suffer over and over again!"
I continued toward my home. I entered my house, sat down and turned on the TV. I skipped through channels mindlessly, eventually landing on the news. The anchor was saying something scary.
"Jerry Luna here," He began.
"as you can see there are nearly a dozen fires burning throughout the city right now. The police prevention clause is still in effect, so there is nothing that can stop them."
After a brief pause, he continued, "This just in, we've just gotten word that the police precinct has been destroyed by some sort of home-made explosive. There is no word yet of any survivors from the explosion."
I drew a deep breath and yelled at the television, "Hundreds of police, whether innocent or corrupt did not deserve that. The words echoed in my head."
"That's not justice," I muttered.
How could anybody do that? I thought.
"Do five or six bad cops define the whole department? That type of justice gets us nowhere in society. It only puts us down the same path as them."
Soon after the incident, the police prevention clause had been stopped. Those members of the police force who were not at the precinct during the incident were now scouring the city for the culprits.
On the news, police were declaring everyone a suspect because this city is a living hell. The captain made a public statement, "There's nothing more I'd love than to catch the people responsible without harming civilians but that is impossible now."
A week went by and I've been hearing rumors of the remaining cops. After the funerals of their lost comrades, many of them took their grief out on innocent civilians, beginning the systematic routine of the shoot on sight. I didn't fully believe it until I saw it happen. I was walking down the street and there was a family a mile or so in front of me.
I saw the police that was on patrol stop right in front of them. They went through the usual sequence of commands, "Stop, kneel, hands on your head,"
I wondered if they knew like I did, how this would end. It was then that the assault began. The cop beat them brutality with his nightstick. Screams filled the air and blood covered the sidewalk. Before they decided to stop, I quickly hid under a car near the park. I couldn't call anyone for help because cell towers were now being tracked and monitored. Cops really don't like snitches.
Soon after the cop left, I ran up to the victims and helped them up. I knew I recognized a young man among the group. He attended the political event and was on the side of the government.
"Did you change your mind on keeping the government within the society," I asked flippantly.
"What do you think?" the father replied.
"They beat me, my wife, and my children for no reason what so ever. The justice system is truly a failure and I'll never trust it again."
"Maybe it would be best if we had no government influence on our lives."
The father asked me if I could carry his son while he carried his wife. We walked for an hour and talked about the changes of the system. As we approached the hospital he said, "Kid, you're probably one of the wisest young people I know."
"Thanks," I replied,
"And goodbye."
I went back home and found a letter stuck in between the doorknob and the threshold. I tore it open with nervous excitement.
The letter goes here:
Hello Sid, A select few of students have been chosen from schools all over the country to attend this meeting to whichever student meets the criteria will win a chance to meet the president. It would be very wise to attend the meeting for the cause you're fighting for. We've seen your presentation and believe it has potential. Among other students who also share the right mindset. We work closely with the president of the united states and out of thousands, he said 60 of the people from many different schools met the criteria.
Sincerely,
friends
It was an invitation to a gathering of young minds who want to achieve true peace to the society. I went to go tell my mother but, like usual, she didn't pay me any mind. Her routine consisted of sitting on the couch, flipping through the dusty old albums and staring at the numerous family photos.
'Mum," I began, "I'm planning on attending the ceremony for young peacemakers and I'd like you to come."
Nothing.
I put my info on their and sent it back. I accepted the invitation with open arms and eventually ended up at the meeting the following week. There was a lot of children there who seemingly without a doubt shared the same ideals as me and to me, that was a big step forward to a strong future that once seemed like a distant dream that is now becoming a reality.
I honestly felt at home until I met this guy Greg who is always talking about someone every time I'm near him. As we re-watched all the speeches from our individual schools.
Greg comes up to me, " Bad speech man, you should go home and rewrite it. Who exactly are you catering to? An orphanage. Being a pest is a rather annoying quality. So less about weak minded individuals such yourself and more about the true importance. Survival is key to everything."
I begin to walk away annoyed, "It's not a good idea to agitate someone you don't know with your mop and glow, arm and hammer looking ***. Especially someone who has a history of anger issues. You only have a few times until I reach my limit with you coward."
I met a couple of other students who all had different and diverse personalities as well as backgrounds. We all are from different societies and all share the struggle and that is what connects us. After the speech viewing was over a select few of children were chosen to go on this special field trip to go and meet the president.
We go there and talk to her about what needs to be done in this society, in this world. They want to hear from the perspective of youths. From our school, I and Lloyd were one of the chosen few from our section of town. I'm happy that I get to make a real difference this time around. We are leaving for the trip in two days. During that time, I was home thinking of ways this outcome will bring my family back together like pieces of a puzzle. Bringing peace to my hometown and my country and how they would react. That's all I was asking myself every day.
Before I departed from home, I hugged my mother as if she was all I had left in this world, "Mum, I love you and there is hope for us because we're still here fighting just like that guy once did."
I then left out and walked to the school meeting point down the road. As I got closer, something didn't feel right because there was a government official who was disguised as a teacher, but I just brushed it off. She was the teacher who was going on the trip with us and looking over us. As we were getting on the plane we all greeted the pilots. I was stuck in the front room for a while but once we took off I went right into the back.
Where there were more familiar students I knew. I looked around for someone to sit next to for a while until I see Lloyd and Juan. I believed that was by far the best place to sit because Juan is an optimist and Lloyd is a realist.
Juan was holding on to a goddess cross, "Everything will be fine if we just believe in what we are doing."
Just as I was sitting down Lloyd was looking annoyed, "I don't understand what you mean guy, it's going to take more than believing in doing what needs to be done. Action always speak louder than words so if you don't have will then you don't have power."
I was just spectating and laughing as they went back and forth. I felt like we'd be an interesting trio because I'm mixed in-between what they both are saying but with a lot of nervousness. We were flying for about a whole day and once morning came.
There was an explosion that woke everyone up that came from the direction of our town. We looked out the window of the plane and saw that the explosion was the size of a giant mushroom cloud. We all panicked and screamed. As we all glared at the window, we decided to call our houses and none of them answered. Then there was another sound we heard that was like a rocket.
And it was getting closer and closer towards us. Something hit the plane, and everyone bounced all around the place. The teacher walked towards us all, "It was a missile. Everyone gets into to your seats and prepare! We are about to crash land."
She then went up to the front with the pilots. We did what she said and was all very scared for our lives. We crashed landed on some weird looking island with no transportation to get back to whatever is left at home.
We all rushed out of the burning plane. We all stood looking at the island that is very bright and has hot winds. I quickly questioned my teacher for all of this as she carried the dead bodies of the pilots out of the plane.
She dropped their bodies on the ground, "I had nothing to do with this happening."
"That tattoo on your neck says otherwise. It resembles corruption." I replied.
She drew a fake smile, "It means nothing Sid now go over there"
We all continuously asked her about everything and then she finally broke. Before she could tell us anything, we hear a gunshot and it went right through our teacher's head. As she falls, we see a man standing behind her.
He walked over the body and came toward us. He's Standing right in front us, "There is no more hope children. All the worthy societies are long gone."
I asked myself "Why is this even happening right now."
The guy then went on, "Your all going to die sooner or later on this island."
"You cookie maniac, bird perching, express morphing polar monkey head ***," Chucky replied.
The guy began to smirk at us like he was about to do something.
"What are you smirking for, you ugly murdering son of a bitch" Is it because you got no real shoe game, no life, no wife and especially no hairline."
He continued to pack on the killer that was most likely going to kill us. We tried multiple times to stop him, but it didn't work. We could tell by the angry expression on the man's face he was about irrupted on us.
Flashback, October 15, 2008.
"Everyone in this goddess forsaken city is going insane. The damn people are the only ones to blame. Some say one race is either being segregated or put on a pedestal. These movements have spread past the barrier walls of colors and race. Especially through their recent actions, have showed the true depth of darkness in which is portrayed within the government and power."
Veto, the head teacher, and old-time town hero, just walked into the faculty room. He came walking towards us all, "We need gun control laws being re-an-acting to stop these monsters."
Han, another fellow teacher, "In town hall where our forefathers made the law and justice system from a dream into a reality. How dare these fools do this kind of harm to history."
Lui, a biology teacher standing near the front door, "What if we're backed against a wall like these criminals out there fighting. They need to be stopped and controlled to fit this society and if it not, goodbye."
Cindy, the assistant principal of the school was sitting down, "For every person we save, there's likely to be a person we can't. Who are we to even to know the difference between the two. Nobody can be the goddess, no matter how hard they try."
Mr.Lucus, the principle slams the paper in his hand on the floor, "How do you keep the people, the public, the society wrong!!! And not expect the backlash from it!!! Listen, everyone, you sound like fucking children that are chasing empty sippy cups. Now I've heard enough out of all of you!!!"
Mr. Lucas then storms out of the room, most likely going back into the cafeteria. I go into my fourth-period class and realize something. There's not even a single child in school today, which is very odd. I walk into the cafeteria, and I see Carl and Shawn sitting down. I go to their table and take out a book and began reading.
Carl comes up behind me, "We're going to need you for this little trip. The children are being taken to a discrete location, nowhere near the president. Remember the objective Ms. Dino. Otherwise, you're dead."
I gasp, "Never did I think I'd be used as a pawn. Not a again. This is why I left the political spectrum alone. I hated being a government official for these exact reasons."
Tommy, the board of directors, grabbed me and took me to the principal's office, "Whenever someone ever rises up to help the citizens, they got assassinated and disowned."
I break away using some of my strength," You people aren't what I remember you as. We're supposed to protect the children not harm them and I believe there's a better way to handle this controversy the society is going through. These children are our future."
Mayor Fizard is coming towards me, "What are you? You're not even smart enough to see your own weakness. Which is why, you're a pawn in a much bigger game. Continue like you have been with no further interruptions or else."
I gulped a little, "Just what do you people want from me?"
Mayor Fizard pushed me out the room, "In due time Ms. Dino, in due time. Now have a great rest of your day."
I continued the rest of my day as regular as I could. Before going on the fake field trip, I had to go through an initiation. They took me to a secret room on the third floor. It was dark and mysterious symbols which gave me a weird feeling. Someone burned a tattoo on my neck within two seconds.
It hurt like hell, but I had no choice but to deal with it. I had a patch on my neck for a while until it was time to go on the field trip with the students. I had a weird feeling in my gut that I might not make it back from this trip. So, I burned the only civil flag I had left in my house as my final goodbye present.
